Dear Friends,
I hope all of you are doing well!
I have been blessed to have so many wonderful FANS in my life. I truly appreciate ALL OF YOU. I’d like you to meet my newest fan…one I have never met before in person. He is Karol Ballard’s dog, LEX.
In a video segment we showed months ago on how NINA (equine sculptor) took all of my measurements in detail to be sure she could reproduce my image to perfection…Karol is the woman who was working with her. This is her dog meeting ME!
To quote Nina, “Lex is paying homage to ST. ZENYATTA, as we call her!” How cute is this!
LEX is bowing down to really get a good look at ME! In my personal opinion, I think he also wants to PLAY!
With love,
Hugs to ALL~

All should bow down to you, dear Queen!

@All. My previous post. That should have read “They sure AREN’T living up to it”.

I’m so inspired by the passion displayed on this site to do the right thing for these glorious animals. It is the human who domesticated animals, therefore it is the human who should be their voice, their protector, the champion of their well being. I will send my Congress person my demand for Senate Bill 1176 to pass. I think 60 Minutes is a great idea, if they will just do it, and Jane Valdez (Mitchell) and Bo Derek suggestions are winners, as well. I totally agree about leaving Zenyatta out of it until, or if, an appropriate time presents itself, and with the Moss’ permission. I love people who “just do it” and there’s a bunch of ’em right here on this site. Let’s get ready to rumble!
@Sharon in Seattle – prayers and positive thoughts to you.
@God – thank you for making Zenyatta :-)

Dear Shari Voltz:
I just posted a Feedback site for 60 Minutes. I left an e-mail asking Bob Simon (who loves Zenyatta) to do a whole segment on the plight of horses who are being slaughtered, even from tracks that have anti-slaughter policies (Mountaineer). Mentioned what happened to Deputy’s Broad. Also contacted HBO Sports. Left a link on this Diary of a program they did in 2008 (Mountaineer again involved) on horse slaughter. You can register on that site and leave a request for them to do another program on the continuing problem of slaughter. You can also contact the Jockey Club directly on their site and urge them to adopt the 360 Lifecycle Retirement Fund. I know all of us are very upset, but if we each make these contacts, the powers that be will have to do the right thing and enforce anti-slaughter. You must remember, in today’s world their are some in Congress that would let our people starve. We have got to make our voices heard. Shari, you’re probably sorry you asked me the question. I’ll get off my soapbox now. Hugs, J.B.

TO ALL RE HORSE SLAUGHTER–I know Penny Chenery considers stopping slaughter to be one of her major causes. Maybe we can join forces with her somehow.

@EVERYONE. I found the petition website. It’s called thepetitionsite.com. It’s free and do-it-yourself. Take a look and see what you think. If we can gather enough signatures, I think Mountaineer should be the first target. As DJ said above “one brick at a time”.

Dear JAG:
Thanks for all the great links today. Hugs, J.B.

Sharon in Seattle, {{{ }}} and prayers, along with only good thoughts are being sent to you from Va.
Zenny, we love that you are recognized as the Queen by so many! The picture is “too cute”.

I have just sent a lengthy e-mail request to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s major documentary program, The Passionate Eye, asking that they do a feature on Canada’s part in this business. May help to get Canada motivated to shut it down!!!
Kari Bussell
@All_ I saw the HBO documentary. It shows several slaughters. It is horrific. It also makes the sport look bad period. With that said ….to bring attention to slaughter and help end it …we might have better luck trying to persuade HBO to re-air it over getting them to or CBS (60-minutes) to do story…due to costs of production vs very low ratings ….
@Barbara Wood I hope I didn’t come across as chastising or worse….I was only warning about giving personal info to peta…they seem to loath all who support our sport.
@Signofthe times-thank you for sharing you story about Z’s statue and your patients… glad the video with Zoe toouched you….and thank you very much for update on MO.
@Judy B-Hugs and Joy back to you dear one.

@JAG. Great article about Goldikova and Frankel. It may be difficult to see any horse who is racing now surpassing Frankel. He was chosen for greatness when his owner gave him that iconic name, and Frankel has not yet shown his full potential or fulfilled his destiny.
@Zenyatta. Given the chance, I like Lex would bow to your magesty and kiss your regal hooves in respect. You are the true Queen.
Kari Bussell
@All- may I be so bold as to suggest that we send a petition to the powers that be in Canada from Americans asking they stop slaughter. I am part of a group that sends letters to Kenya (Americans asking )to end the practice of culling and poisoning of lions…and also send one to Mexico….as well as write individual letters….
Also, maybe someone should start a facebook page or web-site where we can get organized so this does not become the main subject here at this Zennyland of our dreams- safe haven ….still discuss it here. but not to the point it becomes the focal point every day.

TO EVERYONE WRITING ABOUT ANTI-SLAUGHTER EFFORTS: I am very glad to see all the comments. I called Sen. Landrieu’s office (she’s one of the sponsors of 1176)a few weeks ago to find out what was happening with SB 1176 and was told they have enough sponsors but the bill is in committee. I was told the best thing to do was to CALL THE WASHINGTON OFFICE OF OUR SENATORS (I live in Fla so I called both Nelson and Rubio’s offices) AND ASK THEM TO SUPPORT THE BILL. Phone calls are the MOST IMPORTANT and effective way to communicate with your Senators. To get the phone numbers, go to Senate.gov. When you call ask for the person in charge of Animal Welfare issues and tell them you want the Senator to support the bill. It really only takes a few minutes. I also followed up with an email.
There are so many of us that have a passion for horses and if we act on that passion we can make a change. Just think of the impact if all of the almost 90,000 people who “like” Zenyatta’s FB page would call their Senators!!!!
In addition, I think we need to put pressure on the industry to do more to find homes for retired TB and to financially support the retirement farms. The industry makes alot of money from these stallions and broodmares.
Paul
Zenyatta, that is a beautiful replica of you. Even dogs like it-that says something. I would do anything to get a replica like that of you.

If we could unite, even unofficially, but if we could have a common identity when we keep barraging contacts, I wonder if we could consider incorporating Ferdinand’s name into our group’s name

@Pam Graham—Thanks for the link to “Zenyatta Measures Up”—and she sure does, doesn’t she! Too cute.
@Gary Moulton—Go for it with the protest! High hoof!
@Carolyn Caswell-Brown—:”Woof and Hoof”—Love it!
@Lex Woofer—It is a pleasure to meet you. And thank you for posting the link about the need to stop horse slaughter. I see you are not just a pretty face, but smart too, and not just playful, but also serious when there is work to do, like our Zenny. High paw to you!
@Sharon in Seattle—Sending prayers your way for a good report from the oncologist.

Dear Kari B.:
Good point about HBO re-airing and maybe adding the fact that it happened at Mountaineer again in July with Deputy’s Broad. Hugs, J.B.

Your friend Lex is too cute, Zenny! He really wants to play with you. Border collies are so awesome! I hope you weathered the bad storm we had today all right. I love you, Zenny! :-)
@Pam Graham – Thanks for posting the link to the Zenny sculpture video. I was amazed at how she stood so still the whole time. She is so perfect!
@Lex Woofer – I checked out your Facebook page and you are too cute!
@Terry Crow – Today’s joke is hysterical!
To all involved in stopping horse slaughter – My hat goes off to all of you. Count me in as one who will do whatever she can to help.

@Shari Voltz—Sending you hugs and more hugs!

Let’s see, I wrote 60 Minutes, wrote to Mountaineer, sent the birthday card…pant, pant. I think I see our calling materializing here. All the ideas I saw today are excellent. Will continue on later.
@Kari Bussell–I didn’t think for a minute you were chastising. I’ve heard of those PETA(my way or the highway) tactics, but it’s sobering to think they could do it to us!(And HAVE done it to you!) Thanks!
Also, while we’re at it, I think we need to pray for the safety of the 2 horses in the match race Sunday. According to the article, neither has won a race. God forbid that they end up in a kill pen!
Eveline
Hi Zenny, that is one of the cutest pictures ever! I can’t side with PETA, I’m a HSUS supporter, but in their latest issue they stated that Eight Belles died because she ran on performance enhancing drugs! So not true!!! Have to consider my donations now . I do like a lot of other stuff they are doing. @ all who read the story Judy put the link up for the HBO story from 2008 : for one lucky filly that day had a good ending. As Diane was climbing through the killerpens she thought she reconized this horse, ran the tattoo and sure enough; a filly that had run at our local tracks! She called the trainer that had it a while ago and the story was, that the filly couldn’t run so the owner told the trainer to find it a home. He gave it to an employee of his, who in his turn sold her to someone looking for a ridinghorse for his daughter. Instead of a daughter there was a one way trip to the killersale for this filly. The trainer wired the money to Diane to buy the filly, hooked up his trailer and drove all the way up there from Virginia. This was all done in the middle of the night on no notice. After spending $3500. on a give away horse she is now his own daughter’s riding horse. Not all horses end up in bad places because of ill will of their original owners or trainers. We are since that day a lot more careful about checking peoples backgrounds and stories, even if they sound good
J Smith
@ Gary M, if you google some horse rescue groups in your area, I doubt u would be alone in the pillowcase parade drawing attention to the fate of Deputy Broad, and goodness knows how many others at Mountaineer. You can even post on Craiglist that there is an ‘event’. I am in CA otherwise i’d be there with you.
Eveline
@ Sharon in Seattle- Good thoughts are heading your way!!

Dear Max:
I agree, the best is yet to come with Frankel. Wishing him the best health and racing luck. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Eveline:
A similar case happened in New York a little while ago. The trainer and owner thought the horse had been placed. Instead it was headed for disaster. But, rescued at the last minute. In fact, I think that story involved two horses. Hugs, J.B.
