Dear Friends,
I hope all of you are doing well!
I have been blessed to have so many wonderful FANS in my life. I truly appreciate ALL OF YOU. I’d like you to meet my newest fan…one I have never met before in person. He is Karol Ballard’s dog, LEX.
In a video segment we showed months ago on how NINA (equine sculptor) took all of my measurements in detail to be sure she could reproduce my image to perfection…Karol is the woman who was working with her. This is her dog meeting ME!
To quote Nina, “Lex is paying homage to ST. ZENYATTA, as we call her!” How cute is this!
LEX is bowing down to really get a good look at ME! In my personal opinion, I think he also wants to PLAY!
With love,
Hugs to ALL~
Z

RIP DEPUTY BROAD. Your cruel fate will not go unpunished. It was Deputy Broad that came last in a race at Mountaineer in WV in July, and was sent, by his trainer/owner straight to a kill buyer. Deputy Broad was confirmed slaughtered in Canada no more than 5 days later. Mountaineer adopted a ‘No ship to slaughter’ policy in 2008, as documented in a Bloodhorse article. They have not enforced it. I first learned of this on fb soon after it happened, cryed, and thought, that won’t help, so got off my $&^%! and did something. I have been calling, emailing, and letting others know to do same. I wanted to mention it here, but was hesitant to do so as it’s such a positive place. I know so many of us volunteer & donate when we can, but didn’t know so many people knew of the dark side of the business, slaughter. I’m so glad that it was brought up yesterday, I hadn’t seen it until I saw Gary’s post today, and went back to see what was said. It’s not a topic you can say u r happy to see, but I’m sure u know what I mean when I say I was thrilled to see it being discussed. But most of all, so proud of all you Z posters who are doing something about it. I am proud to be part of a community that doesn’t do armchair complaining, but takes real action. It’s nice to know we are all on the same page, and like me, probably no one wanted to bring it up for fear of offending. So thanks to Joan for speaking up. There is contact info on post310, near bottom, for Mountaineer, I tried to email from there website and it would never work, but the phone numbers work! Call and ask why they are not enforcing their policy, and ask them where Deputy Broad is? Mountaineer is on facebook, you don’t have to join to read the page. Scroll down to a post from Daniel Glass to read the full story on Deputy Broad, it gives his trainers name, and quotes from the trainer! On left side, you can click on ‘info’ and it changes to the page with phone #, website, address. If you can chk back later, I will post info on local newspaper & TV stations that one of our regular posters helped me out with. If they get enough calls, they will have to pay attention.

Oh my goodness! Rex is too cute!!! Luv you Queen Z!

thank goodness there’s no end to the CUTENESS! What an antidote to all the other stuff. Zenyatta nation, please send positive thoughts my way tomorrow as the hematology oncologist tells me my test results. Thanks!

Hello Zeny! Lex is adorable. Can’t imagine a world without dogs and horses!
Love and Hugs, Marilu

Zenny, your new fan is adorable and so respectful, bowing to the Queen. I’m sure he’s asking if he can play and wondering why you don’t answer. Loved the HOOF and WOOF.
My daughter posted a few photos of our visit to Lane’s End on Zenny’s Facebook yesterday. I hope you enjoy them in spite of the weird faces on Susan, Vic and I – the horses look great.
@ Judy B – Great idea about 60 Minutes and they should remember to show the Canadian side to this horrible situation. There wouldn’t be anywhere to ship those horses to if Canada closed the slaughter houses. So far I’ve not had a reply to the e-mail I sent to my Member of Parliament but at least it didn’t come back.
Christine B
Hi Z,
Lex is TOO CUTE! You have another canine fan in my little Border Terrier. He would bark along with my cheering in each of your races when you came down the stretch! He does not do this for any other horses, only for you when you were running!
@ Everyone, be careful of PETA and HSUS. They are not always on OUR SIDE. Please research the documentation about both.
Have a great day!!
Christine B
@ Sharon in Seattle, positive thoughts being sent North to you!!

@All: A long time ago, before I became a “mild-mannered” and fun-seeking lurker on this site, I was a radical activist. I have tried to “mellow with age” but my blood is again boiling and I am nearly foaming at the mouth over the slaughter issue.
Lots of letters, calls and emails are good, and everyone should do that, but Gary is right – for those with the stomach for it, we’ve got to make a scene to bring this horrid situation to the eyes and ears of the general public. YouTube, Flash Mobs, TV News of crazies at the track acting up! Gary, if I wasn’t 2000 miles away, I’d be right next to you on Saturday night, and I hope at least a few others will be. Shine a spot light on Mountaineer’s lip service to “no ship to slaughter”. A night in a jail cell would be worth it. I also agree that a 60-minutes segment would be top notch. It’s the kind of story they like to do.
For those that want this to be a happy site where we laugh at Terry’s jokes and meditate to DJ’s prayers, and love on Zenny and her Team, I say I agree. But in her name, what a better place to call to action for the good of those without a voice? 90,000 FB fans, and another bunch here is a force to be reckoned with. This can never be a totally happy place as long as lurking in the back of my mind is the horrific fate awaiting so many beautiful animals.
To arms! To pens! To phones!

hi Z! TOO CUTE!!! I don’t dare put my Z sculpture on the floor, I’m afraid my dogs will pounce on it and break it so I proudly display it on my dresser;) Love YOU gorgeous mama xoxoxo

Hello Queen ST. Zenyatta, that is a great new title for you. I do imagine in horse world there are those who become Saints. I will say this, you surely deserve that title. Lex is a beautiful Border Collie with great markings. I bet he has a fantastic personality. This is a nice new friend for you. Have a great day Zen and stay cool because I know it is pretty hot there. Love you!
Mary

Zenny, you are indeed THE QUEEN! This picture pretty much says it all and is “too cute”. I am so happy you are owned by the Mosses and cared for by the great staff at LE. I am among others who will e-mail, call and do whatever is necessary to make sure ALL horses are treated with love and respect.

@judy berube–I am bawling from reading about No Day Off. This sounds like something that would happen in an “uncivilized” country. Guess what–that’s what we are!
@Diana S–preach on, girl. I agree with every word you said. Yes, we are here because of Zenny. Indeed, it is our love for HER that prompts to action. That could have been my daughter’s horse, that could have been any horse you pass by in the field. We must be here for a larger purpose–to bind up the downtrodden and rescue the perishing. It occurs to me that horses do not know how precarious their existence is, and how horrifying it must be when they realize they cannot get away.
Our love for Zenny would be hypocritical indeed if we turn a blind eye on her relatives.

Hey Fans! Tony will be 89 on August 8th and there would be nothing better to
keep his spirits up than a card or letter from you! At his age, the electronic
media is still a far cry, so if you have one of those things called a stamp –
put it on an uplifting card and drop it in the mailbox. A little effort on our
part will go a very long way. Thanks.

@Christine B: Yes, PETA and HSUS are on a fringe a lot of the time, but I’ll take that fringe if it helps to balance the actions of the fringe from the other side of the pendulum.
