Good Morning to All~
Happy Tuesday! Everything is moving right along perfectly at the farm. I am able to go outside with my pal, Tasty Temptation, and relax for hours at a time. As you can see in the photo, I am just like so many of you. My coat gets ‘lovely high-lights’ from the sun and I do need to have my ‘sunglasses’ (aka fly mask) on when outdoors.
I must say, this mask is a fabulous accessory to have. Not only does it keep the flies off of my face and away from my eyes…but it also screens out some of the sun and direct light…which is quite helpful!
We have had really warm weather recently. I’ve heard that it is also quite warm back home in Arcadia (by Santa Anita). Dottie looked up the temperature for today and it is to be 93 degrees in Lexington. It is even a bit warmer than that in Arcadia. As I have mentioned before, Charles and the guys here monitor how hot it is for ME. If too warm, I am taken back to the barn where the fans are keeping it nice and cool. I must say, I am one very lucky girl!
It is also the first of the month and as MY TEAM requested, they weighed me. I am gaining just the right amount of weight for this stage of my pregnancy. YIPPEE! I am eating all of the right foods and drinking LOTS of water to stay properly hydrated….so this is all good! I’m really trying to do all the RIGHT THINGS here to be a GREAT MOM!
In racing, for many of the major race tracks, today is a ‘dark day’…meaning the tracks are closed. So for quite a few people who work with the horses, this is a more relaxed day and they have some time off. Whether going to the lake, to play golf, or to have fun in the ocean, I hope everyone remembers to be careful in the sun, drink lots of water, and wear your ‘sunglasses’….JUST LIKE ME!
Have a very pleasant day!
With love,
Hugs to All~
Z

Zeny, Storm Cat has air conditioning. You should also. Some farms have swimming pools for horses. I read about one mare who liked to float on her side. My horses do not have any big fly problems. The fly predators pretty much wiped them out. I do not use pesticides outdoors and I have frogs, toads, lizards and birds eating insects also. There are biting flies that attack ears in some places which is why some people prefer the fly masks with ears. Some animals have had the tips of their ears eaten off by flies. You are now about the same color as my filly. She is solid black in winter and solid black when she first sheds out in spring but fades in the summer. Black absorbs the most heat so changing color in summer helps horses to absorb less heat and stay cooler. I hope your barn has sprinklers. They have saved numerous lives. Storm Cat has sprinklers and so do many other horses.

It makes me so glad to see that you have a fly mask to keep you more comfortable out there, Zenny! I could not begin to think of going outside without my shades – lol. My eyes are very sensitive to the light, so I do try to be careful. Its wonderful to see that you are receiving such fabulous care. Before I came to this page the weather segment on my home page was indicating to me that it is currently 108 degrees where I am, but it only feels like 106 – gee, I guess I’m lucky it feels so much cooler – lol! I hope it doesn’t get that hot where you are, Zenyatta! Thank you for another beautiful update. Thank you for sharing this place. My best to all!

“He’s just showing signs of old age and wear and tear,” said Eoin Harty, who trained the 6-year-old son of Street Cry for Robert and Michele Billings’ Equilette Stable. “For him to race at the level he’s been racing at everything would have to be perfect.” THANK YOU FOR PUTTING VICTOR FIRST!!!

@Barbara Grimaldi-Thanks for this link. This Danny Bird character needs to be ruled off all racetracks and the owner, who must have known this was going to happen, should lose his license. Mountaineer should conduct a thorough investigation. Sounds to me like the management of this track has its head in the sand or somewhere else not so pleasant. Danny Bird is going to “get” anybody who comes after him? Take up a collection so I can get there and he will never see me coming.
DJ
To JB: Wow! She won side-saddle! What the hay? :)
Maryyette
To Barbara Grimaldi, thanks for alerting us. It is so sad to know that horses are being treated in such a way. I could not believe when I read what had happened to Ferdinand – just heartbreaking. Please let us know what we can do to help. If you are taking up a collection or need letters written, let us know!!!!

You look great, Zenny!
