Good Day Everyone!
Speaking of SLEEPING BEAUTY…..I’d like you to meet BRONZE BEAUTY!
She is an adorable 2 year old filly (by Latent Heat) who lives at Barn 55.
She finished her appetizer (in the little black bucket MY JOHN always had for US)
and then totally relaxed and took a nap.
The curious part of this is that she also did not want to ‘miss a thing’. She kept her
head close to the door to ‘check out’ what was also going on in the barn.
I remember it well! When I was at Barn 55, we would all be in our stalls after our
training, baths, and breakfast. Then between 12 and 3 each day, My John always
wanted everything nice and quiet and relaxed for us in the barn! It was our special
time to really stretch out, take it easy and rest! (Just like Bronze Beauty is doing in
this photo!)
During this time, he also kept the fans running for 2 reasons: (1) to keep the barn area
nice and cool for us and (2) allow the humming sound they provided to serve as a bit
of a distraction from all of the outside noise that could go on during this time.
Dottie teases him about this often…saying it is like providing a safe environment
and scheduled NAP TIME for a baby! My John just smiles. I know he really feels having
a routine is very important for all of us! Then, of course, in so many ways I know he
looks after ALL OF US as though we truly are his adorable “DUMPLINGS”.
With Love,
Hugs to All~

@Abigail in Montreal. Thanks for posting that link of Frederic Pignon and Lancelot. What a magnificent stallion!! The video just lifted my heart right up.

Zenny,Max,and Lisa G – LOVE that picture of John trying to wake up Sweet. that’s who I thought this was at first until Zenny told us it was Bronze Beauty. It’s great to see horses, or any animal for that matter, so comfortable where they are to sleep like that. Watching Sweet was just funny, because you just KNOW this happened every day with her!
Love you,Sweet Zen!
Rachel C.
This is why Mister Sherrifs will always be my favorite trainer. You can tell he cares so much for every single horse in his barn.
Love ya, Zenyatta.

@Jag–I was remiss in forgetting to thank you for the link to those great pictures. The one of Z looking at everything from so far up above is marvelous, and I LOVE the headgear. TOO CUTE!! High hoof and hugs.

Did you win the Saratoga Crazy Party Race 5. Sure hope you did !!!

In regard to the Haskell here at Monmouth Park this Sunday. Also be rooting for the Jersey horses – Pants on Fire and Ruler on Ice,or Fire & Ice, as they’re being called. the owners, the Halls, are having them “run for Rerun”. Rerun is an organization that rescues retired racehorses and a portion of the winnings for either of these horses will be donated to Rerun. What a wonderful thing. We all need to remember that these horses need to be cared for after their racing careers are over. I have a 13-yr-old TB and wouldn’t trade him for the world!!!
Trina Nagele
@Ingrid—Great to know about Man o’ War sleeping like our dear Bronze Beauty Dumpling!
@The Kennedys—Thanks for the Haskell link. I’m rooting for Schackleford too!
@Alene—Loved your comment about John!
@Barbara Grimaldi—Wow, you sure do your homework! Would you do me the honor of e-mailing me at trinambn@yahoo.com? High hoof!
@Wendy in St. Louis—I am sure posters more knowledgeable than I will respond to your question, but yes, horses do sleep standing up—they have a built in mechanism for keeping their legs in position so they don’t fall down even though they are asleep. Horses have to feel very confident that they are in a safe place to lie down to sleep, since they are a prey animal subject to attack by predators. That’s why it is especially sweet to see Bronze Beauty all stretched out on her side and fast asleep–it shows her confidence and trust that she is in no danger, as she might be out in a pasture or in the wild.

@Jill in NJ—That is super news about the Jersey horses –- Pants on Fire and Ruler on Ice, or Fire & Ice, as you say (too cute!). Now that I know the owners are going to contribute a percentage to Rerun, I’ll be sure to root for them too! High hoof!

Oh Beautiful Zenyatta every horse should be this lucky to have a person like your John for their trainer. This post made me cry. I wish everyone could be like your John. She looks so relaxed and beautiful. I wish John could teach a class on horsemanship. Maybe a horse philosophy class. I hope you had a cool day. Very warm in Ohio. I love you sweet girl. Pleasant dreams. Hugs and Kisses, Shari XXXOOO

@JAG—LOVE that link to fan pictures on the Zenyatta at Home webpage.
@ALL—Thinking again of Barbara Grimaldi’s thought from the other day, with the holidays coming, the book ZENYATTA AT HOME would be a perfect gift for …OURSELVES! As you know, I have my copy already, and I adore the wonderful pictures of out Queen—and it’s too cute that our Judy Maass Gadwood (aka JAG) is in it too! http://www.zenyattaathome.com/buy/
Mary
soooooo cute, the little Sleeping Beauty:)

I’ve read that Man o’ War slept with his head way out of the stall in the barn aisle, because he didn’t want to miss anything. I guess he also wanted to know if anyone was sneaking up on him. LOL! Bronze Beauty is in good company.

Sign me up for the Over-The-Humpling- Dumpling Group – I definitely belong today. I was up at 3.00am to take my daughter to the airport for a 6.30 am flight so like Bronze Beauty I had a nap this afternoon and I’m no 2 year old.
@ Terry Crow – Hope you’re feeling back to normal today, those kidney stones can be worse than labor pains.
@ Debbie G – glad to hear you enjoyed your visit to LE. Zenny is living in a good place and I’m sure she enjoyed your goodie bag. Sarah told me she loves pears.

@Sherry Drish —Loved your post where you say your horses are pleasure horses, “…and that says it all”!

Hi Zenny: The picture of Bronze Beauty is really “Too Cute.” When I visited Barn 55, let me tell you, I could see it was full of “Happy Horses.” I got to go to your home twice that weekend, Zenny. The first time was right around lunchtime. Everybody was so excited because they knew their lunch was on the way. All the horses were making noises. I could tell that lunchtime at Barn 55 is a very popular time of the day!!! My visit the following day was later. Most of your former neighbors were curious as they watched us “human Z-Dumplings” walk around. There were a few though that had had it for the day and were napping–flat out. All looked very content. You know Zenny, you are very missed at Barn 55! Take care Zenny. You must be enjoying these cooler last few days.
@ Kennedy’s in SD–I second that. Thanks for the link. I am really looking forward to this Sunday. It is suppose to be good weather too. Last year, there was a real star studded lineup: Lookin at Lucky, First Dude, Super Savor, Ice Box. It was like being at the Kentucky Derby. In fact, better, because you got to see the whole race.
Paula Higgins
Love that picture. What a cutie pie! Fans are like “white noise.” Very soothing for animals and humans alike. My husband likes a fan or window air conditioner running, even though we have central air. It’s the soothing white noise. Helps people/animals sleep.
Trina Nagele
@Abigail in Montreal—Thanks for the link to Frédéric Pignon and the gorgeous Lancelot, performing at liberty. I have had the pleasure of seeing Cavalia three times in LA, and the at liberty portions are always my favorites.

BB is enjoying her nap. Love this picture. Pure bliss and contentment. Hope you can still rest in comfort during your pregnancy. Thank you for the link to Lancelot. I was so fortunate to see this wonderful show in San Diego at Del Mar Fairgrounds years ago. Probably before 2008. They have not been back to San Diego. I wish they would come again.
Thanks again for all the great posts.

@judy berube. Thank you for posting that video of Life Is Sweet snoozing again. It is so charming and funny that it just never gets old. I agree with the other comments about John. He is indeed a wonderful trainer and human being. This kind of individual and Zenyatta herself makes you feel very good about life.
