Good Day Everyone!
Speaking of SLEEPING BEAUTY…..I’d like you to meet BRONZE BEAUTY!
She is an adorable 2 year old filly (by Latent Heat) who lives at Barn 55.
She finished her appetizer (in the little black bucket MY JOHN always had for US)
and then totally relaxed and took a nap.
The curious part of this is that she also did not want to ‘miss a thing’. She kept her
head close to the door to ‘check out’ what was also going on in the barn.
I remember it well! When I was at Barn 55, we would all be in our stalls after our
training, baths, and breakfast. Then between 12 and 3 each day, My John always
wanted everything nice and quiet and relaxed for us in the barn! It was our special
time to really stretch out, take it easy and rest! (Just like Bronze Beauty is doing in
this photo!)
During this time, he also kept the fans running for 2 reasons: (1) to keep the barn area
nice and cool for us and (2) allow the humming sound they provided to serve as a bit
of a distraction from all of the outside noise that could go on during this time.
Dottie teases him about this often…saying it is like providing a safe environment
and scheduled NAP TIME for a baby! My John just smiles. I know he really feels having
a routine is very important for all of us! Then, of course, in so many ways I know he
looks after ALL OF US as though we truly are his adorable “DUMPLINGS”.
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Just a darling photo! One of my mares lies down flat to sleep in her paddock after her breakfast every day, and her snoring can be heard across the barnyard! So nice that the horses can be so relaxed. I wonder if 12 to 3 at Barn 55 is when there are fewer jets coming into LAX. Those planes are pretty darn low and noisy.

@S (In San Diego): Just a quick dash in here at lunch – are we to understand that the little TB mare DOES have a forever home now, or just that applications are being taken? I would just love it to be the former.
@All the rest: Lurking until after work. Wish I was in that straw with Bronze Beauty! I could use a few zzzzzzzzz.

My Beautiful Zenyatta~ This post is just TOO CUTE!! It just goes to show how calm and comfortable the horses are in Barn 55. I have watched some of YOUR John’s training videos of Bronze Beauty… and WOW, she is a real BEAUTY for sure. Can’t wait to see all of YOUR John’s future superstars on the track, it gives us all something to look forward to since you are no longer there. We know what great care he takes with his charges. It speaks volumns about his character. After all, he is the BEST trainer in the world, me thinks. :)
RE: a post or two ago~
@Judy Berube~ Thanks for all the daily updates of whose racing and the results. I can check in periodically during the day and you are always such a wealth of information. Hugs to you! :)
@Kate Wheeler~ I didn’t realize that BC tickets were so affordable. (Unlike the Kentucky Derby). Thanks for the info.
@Abigail~ Thanks so much for the link to Secretariat…the tears flowed freely.
@Diana S~ Hoping I can come to the BC at Santa Anita in 2012…I just have to meet all of the fantastic people (friends) who have been brought together by the one on only Queen, Our Zenyatta.
@Charlotte Farmer~ You (and the ones joining you) are in my thoughts and prayers as you prepare to embark on the next leg of this fantastic journey of Noor. You are all somethin SPECIAL!
@Amanda Gilliland~ Happy Belated Birthday from Montana!
@ALL~ I enjoy reading all the posts, so much fun, humor and always learning something new. I don’t always get to post, but I do read everthing. Thanks for a wonderful place to come, where I can be assured of lots of smiles, sometimes tears…but ALWAYS the most wonderful people on this planet.
Love,
Zenyatta’s #1 fan in Montana!

Hey Momma Z, hope you have many lovely naps like Bronze Beauty she sure is a beauty, makes me want to snuggle up right next to her.
@Barbara Grimaldi, lol when I read your post about watching that video and having that song stuck in your head. I’m going on my third day and it bugged me so much I went out and bought the CD. I LOVE IT, and I told my kids I want it played at my funeral.
Signofthetimes, Hurrah, I also was so happy to see Indys filly win first time out on the grass! He is my favorite stallion and I hope to see him in fall when we visit LE.
@Abigail from Montreal, thank you for the Cavalia link it was beautiful, this man Pignon, has really learned the language of Equus you can just tell how much the horse loves him.
Z Luv and kisses on your nose(Diane S too)
Max
LauraJ is right. BB is snoozing like Life Is Sweet. Can we make a reservation for some quality nap time at Barn 55? It looks pretty comfortable there and you get room service thrown in.
Sandra B.
What a wonderful trainer your John is…you and your barn 55 friends were lucky to be in his care. Love you, Bronze Beauty and all in barn 55.
Brenda S
Bronze Beauty is so totally relaxed and contented. In nature she would be so vulnerable stretched out like that, it’s obvious that she knows she is in a safe place and can let it all hang out at nap time. Your JOHN is a very wise man, he knows that all babies need their nap time and daily routine, I can hardly believe that I don’t see a “blankie”!!We are so lucky that you grew up in the Shirreff nursery and that Dottie gives us all this information on bringing up a happy contented dumpling.

Just checking in—haven’t had a chance to read today’s posts yet, but have a few responses still for #306:
@Sarah Powell—Oh my goodness! Eleven horses, 14 cows, 6 dogs, 26 cats–you are awesome! And just so you know, that’s a word I seldom use, but in this case I find it wholly appropriate! High hoof!
@Gary Moulton—Thanks for sharing that poem about reincarnation—love that little unexpected twist at the end! Made me smile.
@Karen Gogue—From one over-the-humpling dumpling to another, you are too cute!

Riding a 2 year old is like being on a half boiled noodle. Their front end and back end seem to go opposite directions and trying to figure out which end to ‘go with’ is a constant balancing act. Half the time a 2 year old dropped me, not because (s)he was bucking or acting up but just because their front end zigged, their back end zagged and I sort of dropped right out through the middle! :)

John must feel like each and every horse in Barn 55 is his precious little one to nurture and care for, guide and instruct. He can find something special about each one.
Lisa g
Ms Zenyatta, TOO CUTE, your John, is wonderful.
Lisa g
@Lucia: Thanks for the hug, one back at ya.

Awwww that is TOO CUTE!! I hope you watched Frankel’s amazing win in the Sussex Stakes. He still remains undefeated just like you were. Lots of love Z.
Lisa g
@Zenyen, Too Cute story, easy to picture that.

WENDY,Horses can sleep standing up and if they are in “straight stalls” they cannot lay down and stretch out because the stall is very narrow like a veal crate. The riding stable I went to many years ago had straight stalls. They usually do not spend a lot of hours laying down. Sometimes if there is more than one horse they will take turns laying down so one can watch over the other one. There are many many horse books but you can learn a lot without buying one. Just try googling whatever horse info you are looking for or google “horse books”. http://www.thehorse.com has some nice articles and has a magazine. You can get used books on horses reasonable and some sites have reviews.

@Max, Remember the video of Zenyatt’s John trying to wake up Life Is Sweet, she was so in such a deep sleep, she did not want to wake up…
Debbie G
Hello, sweet Zenny. I visited Lane’s End today. That is such a nice place where you live! Everyone was so nice and it was awesome getting to see all the stallions. I followed Brenda S’s lead and brought a goodie bag for you with pears, bananas, apples and peppermints. Daniele said she would give it to Sara to give to you. I hope you enjoy it beautiful girl. I love you Zenny! :-)
Sandra Frey
Good afternoon, Z! Well…all this talk about naps…I’m sleepy…if I only had some straw and a stall…ah…

@Zenyen, your take on riding a 2 year old is great. Can you imagine how Steve felt riding the Queen as a young one? Boy, the stories he could tell!

It is so heart warming to know that Zenyatta and all the dumplings under John’s care are so loved and taken care of, we can all feel the passion he has for them. You can hear the Love that Dottie feels for her John in her written words. Everyone, every critter should be so lucky, should be that Loved! Thank you for sharing them with us.

JAG from California :-)
@ Trina Nagele AND
@ Karen Gogue ~ I’m a proud member of the Over-The-Humpling Dumpling group LOL It beats the “alternative” :-D
Barbara Wood
@Debbie G– you lucky girl! I’m glad to know we can leave treats for Zenny when we go. We may go in November after the BC.
@Wendy–one book that I thought was terrific was Joe Camp’s (he’s the man who trained Benji for the movies) The Soul of a Horse. I think you would really like it.
Also, the other day, we were talking about Our Mims. If I remember correctly, I first heard of Jeanne M. in a chapter in Chicken Soup for the Horse Lover’s Soul.
@the Kennedys–I love Shackleford too.
@signofthetimes–I agree with you about 2-year-olds. I don’t know how they train them.
@zenyen–lol!
@Barbara Grimaldi– I had thought Diana S had already mentioned you were “in”. But my brain is totally fried from the heat.

@Lisa g. Oh yes, I remember the video of Life Is Sweet sleeping in her stall. It was great. I liked the way John was so patient with her as he laughed and pleaded with her to get to the track before it closed.
