Hello Everyone,
From Del Mar to Saratoga…which opens today….HAPPY RACING!
This is truly the DAILY DOUBLE of summer racing in our sport. It kicks into full swing today! You have Saratoga which starts the day on the East Coast…and then Del Mar on the West Coast to round out your day of thoroughbred enjoyment! During the next several weeks, there are so many options, so many great horses, an abundance of stakes races and LOTS OF FUN!
Even though it is exceptionally warm on the East Coast today, in the mid-90’s and a heat index of 100, the NYRA stated that the race meet will open on schedule. There are 2 stakes races on their program, the Sanford for 2 year olds and the James Marvin Stakes for older horses. The latter drew a field of very accomplished stakes winners going 7 furlongs. Both races will be very competitive and fun races to watch.
Each coast offers deep racing fields over the entire weekend. Have a great time handicapping, watching the races, and analyzing all of your selections! Additionally, HOOVES CROSSED for great racing luck for all of YOU!
Again, please take special care of yourself in this heat. It is really important for you to monitor your physical activities and stay properly hydrated! I know something about this. MY JOHN always monitored my hydration levels when I was at Barn 55. Due to my size and weight…and then in consideration of my physical activities as an athlete, this was a very, very important part of my overall well-being. That is why I know the great importance of monitoring one’s HYDRATION LEVELS!
Happy Weekend to all of my dear, dear FRIENDS!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Dear Terry Crow:
Sometimes that’s the best way to bet. Even when you know, you never know. Those song titles are hysterical. Ha, ha. Hugs, J.B.

My key horse had the lead into deep stretch and gave it up but held 2nd. The under horses got 3rd, 5th, & 6th. Not giving up. -$3.00 for this one.

@Terry Crow–How about “I’m living up to her low expectations because her low expectations are high enough for me”? (Not sure if that’s the title or a line from the song.)

Dear Kari Bussell:
It was a blessing to see him and he passed fairly soon after we saw him. We went to see him on Sept. 5, 2004 and he passed in 2007. I found a You Tube video from 1980 of Nessun Dorma. His voice was absolutely flawless at that time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOfC9LfR3PI&feature=related

@Trina Nagele-The chewing gum song was actually played on rock and roll stations many years ago. It was by an English artist named Lonnie, but I can’t remember his last name. I think it might have been Donegan. As far as the Budster story goes, you really had to be there. Glad you enjoyed it. @Judy Berube-At least it wasn’t the same name as my cat.
Terry Crow
@Barbra Wood-I don’t know that one, but it belongs. How about –I’m so miserable without you its like having you here. These are all real, folks.

Dear Trina Nagele: The video of ‘Z’ Kari loves was done by a young man around Zenyatta`s retirement & flight to LE. He was so proud of attention here & The Bloodhorse [I think??]. The question of whose soundtrack & his answer that it was Taylor Swift, is somewhere back in the Diary Posts. ~ Diana S.: Hate loss of Amy Winehouse, too; just read of it . .. she never realized how her best work registered with an audience that willed her success. Janis, too.

Terry Crow: “Exit laughing. But not before I was out of range.” [This is as good as any of Henny`s. Chortling about those guys` watching your win .& not happy ..].

To Terry C: and JB: Couldn’t resist the Theme of the Day…I like ‘Please bypass this heart!’ Thanks for the laughs… :)
DJ
To JB: You are so sweet, and as long as you want them, they will be there. So sad for the tragedy in Norway. A candle and a prayer..
DJ
Kc: A candle and a prayer for young Amy Winehouse as well. A life ended too soon. May our Good Lord bring her to Himself for eternal healing.

Dear Barbara Grimaldi:
You are so right about II Volo. They are adorable and very, very good. I think Mr. Pavarotti would have been impressed and glad to see young people singing his music. Hugs, J.B.

Terry C.: I swear my next dog is going to be named, ‘his dog. Exit’ — ‘Exit,’ for short! K.

Horse racing also lost a suberb star today…Rewilding broke down in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. While it does not compare to the tragedy in Norway…my heart is also heavy having watched this magnificient animal break his cannon bone…gallop on, as his rider–the great Frank Dettori–fell–until his trainer was able to catch him. Truly heartbreaking…

RIP Amy – Hope you catch a ride with “Rewilding” into Eternity.

Should have gone to rehab.

DJ: That calibre talent [The NPR story said she trusted the lyrics and her music would come to her] is as a praer .. . work is: how those gifts get lost (or, gratefully, found) is why this story of ‘Z`s’ touches deep . .. grateful when it makes it through the storm, out from under.
Trina Nagele
@Gary Moulton—You are so very welcome. I’m glad I could be of assistance.
DJ
To Ingrid A: Congratulations! The Cloud Meister will not let you down! Hugs to you too :)

“Does your chewing gum lose its flavour on the bedpost overnight, if your mama says don’t do it, do you swallow it in fright? can you catch it on your tonsils, heave it left and right, does your chewing gum lose its flavour on the bedpost overnight?” Yes, Lonnie Donegan, who also did a mean version of Rock Island Line and a few others, they were a “skiffle” group from England… my pen pal kept me well supplied… what fun to see these song titles…
This is a great group, the rapport that has built up among everyone with Zenyatta and her tremendous team at the core. I don’t always have the time to read through all the posts, but I see some real friendships developing here.
I was an Army daughter, my dad was so often away, but we were very close… he passed away 21 years ago and not a day goes by that I don’t miss him. My mom raised 4 kids, the eldest of whom was a horse-obsessed daughter, who scrounged rides any way she could and did not get her own horse until she (I) had saved up enough for feed, etc. beyond the purchase (which took 2 years to pay off…) Mom dragged me to all the stables, farms, friends, etc., and was always supportive… she’s been gone for 10 years now too. As someone said, if you are fortunate enough to still have your dad and/or mom, give them a big hug…
Today I was watching the racing from England and saw the tragic fall of Rewilding… such a gallant boy… and the trainer of the winner was one of the first on the scene to help the horse… racing is one big family, no matter how rich you are, your horse can be lost in an instant. Another reason I am so profoundly grateful for John and his team who took such amazing care of Zenyatta all the way.
I’m still bummed, but this group is a pick-me-up for sure. Thanks. Kisses, Zen, and Dottie, you’re a gem.
