Hello Everyone,
From Del Mar to Saratoga…which opens today….HAPPY RACING!
This is truly the DAILY DOUBLE of summer racing in our sport. It kicks into full swing today! You have Saratoga which starts the day on the East Coast…and then Del Mar on the West Coast to round out your day of thoroughbred enjoyment! During the next several weeks, there are so many options, so many great horses, an abundance of stakes races and LOTS OF FUN!
Even though it is exceptionally warm on the East Coast today, in the mid-90’s and a heat index of 100, the NYRA stated that the race meet will open on schedule. There are 2 stakes races on their program, the Sanford for 2 year olds and the James Marvin Stakes for older horses. The latter drew a field of very accomplished stakes winners going 7 furlongs. Both races will be very competitive and fun races to watch.
Each coast offers deep racing fields over the entire weekend. Have a great time handicapping, watching the races, and analyzing all of your selections! Additionally, HOOVES CROSSED for great racing luck for all of YOU!
Again, please take special care of yourself in this heat. It is really important for you to monitor your physical activities and stay properly hydrated! I know something about this. MY JOHN always monitored my hydration levels when I was at Barn 55. Due to my size and weight…and then in consideration of my physical activities as an athlete, this was a very, very important part of my overall well-being. That is why I know the great importance of monitoring one’s HYDRATION LEVELS!
Happy Weekend to all of my dear, dear FRIENDS!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z

Good Morning Zetty,
hope you and your fellow mares are doing as well as to be expected in this heat :)
@ Terry Crow
I haven’t seen the show, but I remember Sally Struthers from ‘All in the Family’
she ‘Gloria’ & they ‘the Bunkers’ were a riot. I’m glad she is working. I miss the old shows.
Patsy Cline is okay, I like some of her songs. I’m more of a Blue Grass fan. Steve Martin has a pretty niffty band, and he’s pretty hot on that banjo. They performed on a 4th of July @ the Capitol show, and they stole the show. :) :) :)
The late Johnny Cash was totally American in his performance style. He was one of the greats, so is Willy, Nelson that is. K.D. Lang, K.T. Olin, they represent Country & cross over into other styles at times.
Pretty good stuff.
Well, Zetty have a great day, keep drinking that good water
Anne
Good morning, Z, Dottie and all the Z fans of this site. /always glad to see a new photo of you Queen Z. There was an article about Blind Luck yesterday in the form with a headline something like, “Not quite like Zenyatta yet.” You are still remembered and compared in articles, even on the opening of Saratoga.
Sartoga was lucky not to have any casualties yesterday as it was extremely hot. I know their CEO assured the trainers of plenty of water and ice at the finish line…still didn’t make it any more comforting to see them running. Dodged a dangerous bullet.
Diana S. I was touched by your post on your dad. What a fabulous horse idea… I was jealous! Although I use to climb on my dad’s back as he pretended to be my horse, Fury. That was my favorite show back then. Poor dad, at times, I was a little rough with the old guy.
He took me to Saratoga Race Course when I was 8 years old. I still looked 5 which was to my advantage as a trainer came up to us and told my dad that I should have my picture taken with Eddie Arcaro. What a thrill. That was before all the fencing around the trees in the paddock area. It was a raining day but… even though his face (Eddie A.) is not clear, mine is! and I was pretty proud of that moment.
Dad’s and their daughters always have a different bond than that with our mothers. Thanks for sharing. I wouldn’t mind riding that horse your dad made! ha… Have you seen the neat horse bicycle? It is at the Keeneland gift shop and in some horse magazines. Where was that when we were all little?
You all have a great Saturday. Seems a little cooler here today 20 miles north of Saratoga.

@Kari Bussell–I love “Nessun Dorma” as well. Another cd that I prize is Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli’s “Time to Say Goodbye”. Such talent is a gift, as is our dear Z’s!
@Diana S–thanks for sharing such sweet memories of your dad. How wonderful to share things that no one else was doing with their daddies.
@s(in San Diego)–praising God that Keith is coming to the rescue. If you (or the mare) is in need of help in the future, please post here. I don’t have a farm, but I could send a small check.
DJ
To Kari B: Thank you so much for the beautiful start of my day.
………………………………….
To JB: You are more than welcome! hugs DJ
…………………………………..
To Diana S. and Anne: Thank you both for sharing your memories of your very special and loving Fathers. I could read stories like these all day..just need tissue, but would keep smiling from the inner beauty and strength of character in such great men and ‘Dads.’
Kari Bussell
@ Barbara Wood – Did you kknow someone did a Zenny video to that song?
Kari Bussell
@DJ- You are beautiful! May Joy surround you always!
Kari Bussell
@S(in Dan Diago)- God bless Keith. Great news…and God bless you for all your work to help find her a good permanent home.
DJ
For those who would like to begin the day with a prayer:
………………………………….
Darkness has faded, night gives way to morning;
Sleep has refreshed us, now we thank our Maker,
Singing his praises, lifting up to heaven
Hearts, minds and voices.
Father of mercies, bless the hours before us;
While there is daylight may we work together,
Building a city fit to be your dwelling,
Home for all nations.
Daystar of heaven, Dawn that ends our darkness,
Sun of salvation, Lord enthroned in splendor,
Stay with us and let your light fill all creation.
Flame of the Spirit, fire with love’s devotion
Hearts love created, make us one people;
Give us a vision wide as heav’ns horizon,
Bright with your promise.
Joy-giving Spirit, walk beside us always;
Uniting and serving,
Sign of God’s kingdom.

Neither Coolmore nor Darley are confirming
any breeding of Z’s dam and Street Cry.
Barbara Wood
@Kari Bussell–no, I didn’t know. Hope I can find it!!
notafanofensign
Darley is not confirming any breeding between LIS and Bernardini.
Kari Bussell

@Betting The Babies – 07-23-11 (12:30 pm est)
.
There are only 2 two yr old races today. I’m going to key a couple of bumps for a buck in the exacta. Also this will save us money.
.
@SARATOGA – Race 2 – Key #6 “Whinston” over:
#2 “Zellers”, #4 “Mr. Continental”, #7 “How Do I Win”
.
$1.00 exacta key – 6 // 2, 4, 7 = $3.00 – Half price for you Gals looking for a sale, LOL
.
.
@DEL MAR – @DJ – Race 3 – Key #3 “Soul Saver” over:
#4 “Basmati”, #6 “Tummel”, #9 “Good Mojo”
.
$1.00 exacta key – 3 // 4, 6, 9 = $3.00 – two races for the price of one.
.
@ Trina Nagele – No, to the contrary, thank you so much for pointing that out. I had 6 drafts before I thought I had it right and two other people proof read it and missed the mistake. Two things I wish this site had is an edit feature so people could fix mistakes and a search feature so you could find all posts for individual people. Maybe when or if Zenny ever updates her site she can add these features. I did fix it on my printed copy. Seems like it always happens a lot, I send an email and after it’s gone I find something wrong, LOL
.
@Team Moss – Congrats on the “Cloud Man” WIN yesterday!!! He didn’t come from the clouds like the Big Z but a very nice stalking ride and only 0.12 off the Big Girls’ Synthetic Track Record, although he was carrying six lbs. less then the Big Gal. Is he ready to tackle olders next time?

@ Sharon Call
What about the decision made by Seattle Slew’s
Owner. With the pressure of someone very influential
In racing sent Slew to CA for acrace he lost after the
Triple Crown. Those of us who are not owners don’t know
Everything that goes into a decision. Most likely Ruffian
Would have broker down in another race. She was soooo
Very competitive that no human could tame that great
Desire to win.
Shannon From Cool
Aaaah, those were the days!
Barbara Wood
@Kari Bussell–oh my goodness! I can’t believe that video! Thank you so much for the link!!!!
Barbara Grimaldi
Still more than 100 in NJ–hope KY is cooler.
Terry C: loved that cowboy joke–laughed out loud at the punchline
Judy B–I attended the Met Opera in NYC for many years as a subscriber and saw Pavarotti many, many times, from his prime forward. I have lots of stories to tell regarding him, who I always favored over Placido Domingo. Have you heard the group of 3 Italian boys, Il Volo? UTube them–you’ll love what you hear!
Charlene C, Karen M, Sharon C–I gratefully agree re Ruffian’s owners
Ingrid in MA–story got worse–he shot 80+ kids on that island, even the ones who were so terrified they took to the water…world sometimes spins out of control, taking some people with it–too many of these outbursts are happening everywhere…
Kari B: thank you for the statistics–fascinating! And thank you, too, for that magnificent video of Zenyatta’s goodbye. You cannot help but cheer her on in the race footage and then cry throughout the rest
About Patsy Cline–I’ve traveled to other countries, but no matter where I was, Patsy Cline was always on the radio or juke boxes…I adore her and loved the movie
Why DRF continually puts the Mikey story on its daily emails is anyone’s guess…but I see it as unfair. Today’s version stated that about 16 people were stopped by police after the track party and booked for DUI. That’s another piece of this puzzle
Terry Crow
@Diana S and Anne-Cynthia H had posted something similar before about her dad and I will repeat what I posted then. If my daughter feels anything like you two do, then my life will have been a success.@Sunny Boyd-Steve Martin is an excellent banjo picker. he has played with Earl Scruggs and it doesn’t get any better than that. @Judy Berube, Marshall and Kari Bussell–Here are a few country song titles, as promised. These are real.–I don’t know whether to kill myself or go bowling; I wanna whip your cow; I’m just a bug on the windshield of life; I would have writ you a letter but I couldn’t spell yuck;Mamma get the hammer, there’s a fly on papa’s head; My head hurts, my feet stink and I don’t love Jesus; She got the ring and I got the finger; You done tore out my heart and stomped that sucker flat; You’re the reason our baby’s so ugly; and my favorite, Thank God and Greyhound you’re gone. Special merit award to I’ll never get out of this world alive, an old Hank Williams tune. Sample lyric-My distant uncle passed away and left me quite a batch. I was livin’ high until that fatal day a lawyer proved I wasn’t born I was only hatched.
DJ
To Kari B: Thank you! I needed that beautiful song and tribute to our Unbelievable “Z”…but – I refuse to say Goodbye! Only, “See you later!”
DJ
To Gary M: Thank you! That’s very cute!! Let’s see how ‘the race’ turns out in the end :)
Trina Nagele
@Gary Moulton—I too wish there were an edit feature whereby we could correct a typo after we post a comment. But the good news is that there IS a SEARCH feature available. If you can see EDIT on your toolbar, click on it, then in the drop-down box click on FIND (if the drop-drown doesn’t display FIND, click on the downward arrow at the bottom to get more options). Then enter the name or word(s) that you want to find. They will be highlighted in the text, and you can move to the next by clicking on NEXT. If you don’t see your toolbar when you are on Zenny’s page, you can access the FIND by holding down CONTROL (Ctrl) and F at the same time. Please let me know if this works for you.
Ingrid Arnone
Congrats, to Cloud Man, I won with him, love you Zenyatta, Ingrid.
Dear, DJ, amen, hugs, Ingrid.
Diana S
@Amy Winehouse: May your troubled soul finally rest in peace. Your substantial demons won – and we are the lesser for it. I will miss your edgy, deep music. Say “Hi” to Janice from this aging hippy.

@Kari Bussell—I believe Karen Gogue is fine, but very busy with the D(for Dottie)-Day project,so she hasn’t had time to post as much as usual.
Trina Nagele
@Terry Crow–Love those titles! I remember another title, but I don’t know if it was country or not: “Does your chewing gum lose its flavor on the bedpost overnight?”
Terry Crow
@Judy Berube-That Captain Crow thing was strictly a fluke. It reminded me of one time in Vegas when I was in the race book at Sam’s Town playing the harness races from the Meadowlands. I was doing well, and a race came up with a horse in it by the name of The Budster. My dog’s name is Buddy, so I bet on it, kind of like Let it Ride. The Budster won at 38-1 and I collected, laughing. A group of three guys came up to me and asked me how I happened to like that horse. When I told them about Buddy, they started grumbling. It was something like “We’ve been here all day handicapping without a winner and that guy wins because the horse has the same name as his dog.Exit, laughing. But not before I was out of range.

@Diana S-Me and Bobbie McGee just bought a Mercedes Benz.

Dear Diana S.:
When I saw your post, I went to MSN and read that Amy Whitehouse has passed. Very sad. Hugs, J.B.
