Hello Everyone,
From Del Mar to Saratoga…which opens today….HAPPY RACING!
This is truly the DAILY DOUBLE of summer racing in our sport. It kicks into full swing today! You have Saratoga which starts the day on the East Coast…and then Del Mar on the West Coast to round out your day of thoroughbred enjoyment! During the next several weeks, there are so many options, so many great horses, an abundance of stakes races and LOTS OF FUN!
Even though it is exceptionally warm on the East Coast today, in the mid-90’s and a heat index of 100, the NYRA stated that the race meet will open on schedule. There are 2 stakes races on their program, the Sanford for 2 year olds and the James Marvin Stakes for older horses. The latter drew a field of very accomplished stakes winners going 7 furlongs. Both races will be very competitive and fun races to watch.
Each coast offers deep racing fields over the entire weekend. Have a great time handicapping, watching the races, and analyzing all of your selections! Additionally, HOOVES CROSSED for great racing luck for all of YOU!
Again, please take special care of yourself in this heat. It is really important for you to monitor your physical activities and stay properly hydrated! I know something about this. MY JOHN always monitored my hydration levels when I was at Barn 55. Due to my size and weight…and then in consideration of my physical activities as an athlete, this was a very, very important part of my overall well-being. That is why I know the great importance of monitoring one’s HYDRATION LEVELS!
Happy Weekend to all of my dear, dear FRIENDS!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Rewilding could have been saved with an artifical leg. After having won millions his earnings could have paid for it many times over. Dr. Redden DVM in KY has helped horses by giving them artificial legs. Best Friends in Utah used to have a mare they had fitted with an artificial leg. Horses can get around very nicely with one. If I owned Rewilding he would be getting one.

LAURA J: thanks so much for Mike’s FB page…I just left a plea to not do this again, as he has done one or two before. Sometimes, people need vacations…maybe Mike is a bit burned out?

Good evening Zenyatta,
I watched some of the races, pretty exciting stuff.
Hope you & your little one are doing okay in this heat, it’s too damn hot :(
Have a restful night with a cool breeze .
Does aby remember the Dinah Shore Show? I remember one show where Zsa Zsa & Robert Blake (during his Baretta days) almost got into a fight. It was too funny.

Dear Kari Bussell:
You’re welcome. Yes, I remember Johnny Carson. He did so many funny bits. He was one of a kind. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Z–with all the tragedy in this old world, I am so thankful my thoughts can turn to YOU and remember that YOU are a gift from God for us all to appreciate. May you and Baby Z rest safely tonight and wake up refreshed in the morning. (This from someone enduring 110 heat indexes–staying inside every afternoon). Love you always.

Dear Z Fans:
Here’s an article about It’s Tricky that sheds a little light on her mischievous personality. Hugs, J.B. http://saratogian.com/articles/2011/07/23/sports/doc4e2b64dabe8c0709997831.txt

Dear Sunny Boyd:
I remember the Dinah Shore Show (not that particular altercation). I always thought she seemed to be a genuinely nice person. Hugs, J.B.
Barbara Wood
@judy berube–good report on It’s Tricky
@Sunny Boyd–I remember Dinah Shore fondly. Do you remember “See the USA in your Chevrolet”?

Just watched the video that Kari provided the link to “Long Live Zenyatta” – so good. So much tragedy today, I needed to end the day on a positive note – watching the Queen is like balm for the soul! (thank you Kari for posting the link.) Prayers for all going through hard times – most especially those in Norway.

@Barbara Wood – I couldn’t have said it better myself. Zenyatta makes us all feel better. :-)

I thought Dinah Shore was a classy lady and yes, I remember the sponsor’s song, actually she could really sing, too.
It was an afternoon show, Johnny Carson was too late for me.

Dear Gary Moulton:
Better luck tomorrow. Hugs, J.B.

For dome reason HRTV did not show It’s tricky
In the winners circle or I missed it. Thanks for the
Link on her personality. I guess she acted up and
He stepped off. Those jockeys are amazing when
They step off. I always end up on my back or something
I really admire their riding skills. Good idea of Godolphin
To keep her with same trainer. Trainer really needs to
Know her and changing takes time to learn. Not letting
Them put her halter on. What a character. Very high maintenance!!!
Look forward to more of these filly’s and Zazu.

For those who would like an Evening Prayer/Hymn:
…………………………………..
Day is done, but love unfailing
Dwells ever here;
Shadows fall, but hope, prevailing,
Calms every fear.
Loving Father, none forsaking,
Take our hearts, of Love’s own making,
Watch our sleeping, guard our waking,
Be always near.
Dark descends, but Light unending
Shines through our night;
You are with us, ever lending
New strength to sight;
One in love, your truth confessing,
One in hope of heaven’s blessing,
May we see, in love’s possessing,
Love’s endless light!
Eyes will close, but you, unsleeping,
Watch by our side;
Death may come: in Love’s safe keeping
Still we abide.
God of love, all evil quelling,
faults forgiving, fear dispelling,
Stay with us, our hearts indwelling,
This eventide.

The morning started out with a cloud of saddness and then to hear about Awad…:( Prayers for all.
It was a beautiful day at Del Mar!
@Gary…I had Soul Save as part of my trifecta along with Secret Cirle and Basmati. Although that did not work out to well…. things got a little better as the day went on.
Exciting build up between Caracortado and Acclamation….but I have always liked Jeranimo so took a chance and put him in the mix. Congrats to Acclamation and Caracortado was coming fast at the end.
today I was suppose to meet a friend at the track, but as I was parking, she called and was unable to come. Part of me thought about heading home (only 10-15 minutes from home) but then I thought…”what the heck” …I had a blast, met some great new friends within 20 minutes and hope to see them again next weekend. Told them about the Diary..so if they read this…Welcome! Sweet Dreams everyone, God Bless and keep you safe.

‘Kirren’ — yes! Karen Gogue, thank you & Kari B., for the traces back to lovely. ~ Gary Moulton lifting Amy Winehouse aloft with Rewilding [the name so meaningful] recalls from ‘The Secret Garden’ a landscape ‘wick’ — Yorkshire for still full of life — just unattended. .. . And that brings back a good Sir Winston quote, because at times early and after, he felt bereft, to the effect that it was neither wit nor talent that brought success, rather, diligence to the task. ~ And: judy berube: [you, taking that husband everywhere, but he keeps coming back] — for the hugs, no doubt. Never kid a kidder & always leave `em laughing. Now, it`s Sunday, DJ. ..

@Kari Bussel, thank you sooooo much for posting that link to the video “Time to Say Goodbye”. I absolutely love that song and had only heard the melody so I never got the name. Now I’m going to buy that CD and I shall always think of our “Queen” when I play it, she was truly poetry in motion and I think this song really fits her well.

Returning to ‘THE VAULT’ as comments come to Abigail`s comprehensive ‘Recent Entries,’ especially “Following Terlingua,” Secretariat`s other daughter, ‘. .. a story of how magical the spirit of one horse can be…..’ http://thevaulthorseracing.wordpress.com/2011/06/04/following-terlingua/ .. . and finally able to think more clearly of Diana_NV`s foundation mare, leaving so great a legacy. ~ Our older mare became a life lesson. Thinking we rescued her, it turns out she showed us dignity, creativity, good humor, pride in new accomplishments, patience w/ people who just don`t get it the first, or the fifth, time — and all at 20 and beyond; settling on a first cover, delivering a nice colt, only pursing her lips, while she waited for me to turn the foal. ~ That is why it means so much — that there is an Illinois TB mare Keith brought home and Stephanie [‘s (in San Diego) on this site] found out about from his FB story & photo of one rescue-in-waiting, 4 years old. That she waits safely for the present, for the gift of a new start; 200 pounds underweight, but safe, and tended, a rainbow in a lot of clouds.

Good morning and Happy Sunday. For those who would like to start the day with a Prayer/Hymn:
…………………………………..
This day God gives me
Strength of high heaven,
Sun and moon shining,
Flame in my hearth,
Flashing of lighting,
Wind in its swiftness,
Deeps of the ocean,
Firmnes of earth.
This day God sends me
Strength as my steersman,
Might to uphold me,
Wisdom as guide.
Your eyes are watchful,
Your ears are listening,
Your lips are speaking,
Friend at my side.
God’s way is my way,
God’s shield is round me,
God’s hand defends me,
Saving from ill.
Angels of heaven,
Drive from me always
All that would harm me,
Stand by me still.
Rising I thank you,
Mighty and strong one,
King of creation,
Giver of rest, truly I’m blest.

@J Smith-A foot race sounds like a good idea.@Kari Bussell-Worth a flip? I”ll have to start using that expression rather than the one I have been using. Don’t remember Carson doing that, but it fits. My favorite was Floyd Turbo. Glad you are enjoying the titles. More coming at the end of this post. @Judy Berube-Ditto. @Brenda S-I would ferry cross the Mersey to be with Dusty Springfield. @Sunny Boyd-My money would be on ZSA ZSA unless Blake hired a hit man.@Barbara Wood-America is asking you to call. Here are some more real country titles. Enjoy.–I’d rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy; I wouldn’t take her to a dog fight even if she had a chance to win; How can I miss you if you won’t go away?; Get your biscuits in the oven and your buns in the bed;If my nose were full of nickels, I’d blow it all on you; My wife ran off with my best friend and I sure do miss him; When you leave walk out backwards so I’ll think you’re walking in; Don’t cry on my shoulders ’cause you’re rusting my spurs; If you don’t believe I love you just ask my wife; This time I’m gonna beat you to the truck. Special Sunday bonus for DJ– I been roped and thrown by Jesus in the Holy Ghost Corral.

@Kathryn Cogswell-Thank you for the link to the reading dad. A wonderful story. My daughter’s name is Alicia so it hits close to home. She lives in Texas. I am going to call her today. @Judy Berube-Loved your Henny Youngman joke. The man was a master. i can still see him in my mind’s eye with his violin. His jokes I am sure are considered to be corny today, but one thing about them. His jokes were never dirty.

@Diana_Nv – So sorry for the lost of your precious Slewpy.
@Terry Crow – Love the country titles. Hilarious :-)
