Hello Everyone,
From Del Mar to Saratoga…which opens today….HAPPY RACING!
This is truly the DAILY DOUBLE of summer racing in our sport. It kicks into full swing today! You have Saratoga which starts the day on the East Coast…and then Del Mar on the West Coast to round out your day of thoroughbred enjoyment! During the next several weeks, there are so many options, so many great horses, an abundance of stakes races and LOTS OF FUN!
Even though it is exceptionally warm on the East Coast today, in the mid-90’s and a heat index of 100, the NYRA stated that the race meet will open on schedule. There are 2 stakes races on their program, the Sanford for 2 year olds and the James Marvin Stakes for older horses. The latter drew a field of very accomplished stakes winners going 7 furlongs. Both races will be very competitive and fun races to watch.
Each coast offers deep racing fields over the entire weekend. Have a great time handicapping, watching the races, and analyzing all of your selections! Additionally, HOOVES CROSSED for great racing luck for all of YOU!
Again, please take special care of yourself in this heat. It is really important for you to monitor your physical activities and stay properly hydrated! I know something about this. MY JOHN always monitored my hydration levels when I was at Barn 55. Due to my size and weight…and then in consideration of my physical activities as an athlete, this was a very, very important part of my overall well-being. That is why I know the great importance of monitoring one’s HYDRATION LEVELS!
Happy Weekend to all of my dear, dear FRIENDS!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Have a great weekend Queen Z. Tell Mike we are all praying for him, and to just put this behind him and move on. Love You Z.

Always love to see any pics of you – wish every person responsible for horses (or any other animals for that matter) took as detailed care as your John did(as well as your entire team.) I’ve said many times here and on facebook as have many others that the detailed care you received is the reason you came through your career safe, sound and well adjusted. Still praying for a break in the weather for all of us. Try to stay cool sweet girl. (thanks Dottie)

Yes heat is a problem for much of the country….but it’s nice today in SoCal! Tasty Temptation in yesterday’s pic looks as big as you are, Queen Z! Take care and have a great weekend!

@Diana_NV wanted to send you sympathy for the loss of your Slewpy. I’ve lost 2 and it takes such a toll on you – glad you have her foals.

this “bump in the road”. We are all thinking
of him. :)

Zenyatta – We went to Del Mar in August of last year and saw you win the Clement Hirsch in grand style (AGAIN). You put on quite a show in the paddock. The public were 10 and 15 deep around the paddock. Got a great picture of you just as you left the paddock to the track. We may go again this year just to celebrate the anniversary of your third win in that race. We will be thinking of you when we’re there.

Ms Zenyatta, Happy Friday to you. Thank you for that special, beautiful picture of the most beautiful girl in the world. Yes, it is exciting, East and West Coast all together…I am so excited to see the youngsters. I love you, give Your Mikey my love, respect and prayers for him…Lisa g

I’d much rather be at Del Mar this year!
Keep cool Zenny, hugs and kisses.
Love your diary!

Dear Miss Z –
Am very concerned about you in the heat you are having; especially in your “delicate” condition – which,by the way, makes you even more beautiful! Is your barn air-conditioned? I am praying it is.
Take care sweetie and stay Kool!!!
Love you more every day…..

@SARATOGA – Making this play under a hot protest!!! 07-22-11 (12:30 pm est)
.
There are 3 two yr old races at the Spa today. With everybody concentrating on the “Schuylerville Stakes”, I will look at Race 5 for a chance to hit a long shot with Wayne. These are some very good well bred fillies with a good mix of top notch trainers. First timers are hard to figure but I like a challenge. Got to stick with the only two in the race with experience and the first timer I like is:
.
#2 – “Delightful Magic”
.
#4 – “Bourbonesque” & #8 – “Bargain Blitz” rounds out the baby bump box for a buck
.
.
@DEL MAR – Today there are two 2yr old races but they are short fields. They just happen to be Race 1 and 2. So instead of a baby box I will try a baby double. The 3 horse box for a buck in the tri cost $6. So today we will save a buck in this race. I’m going to play a $5 Daily Double with:
.
Race 1 – #1 “Frisky Moment”
.
Race 2 – #2 “Willa B Awesome”
.
Saratoga is my favorite track but Del Mar definitely has the Spa beat on weather.
.
These are my baby plays for today, good luck and as always no guarantees.
.
PS: Zenny the “Sanford” is on Sun.

Take it easy Zen! Stay cool and hydrated yourself! Enjoy the weekend :)

Hi Zenny-
Thanks for the update on all the summer racing. I can’t wait to get out there and see some live racing, I miss it so.
I am hoping you are staying cool and safe at Lane’s End. Have fun but please please stay safe.
Love you lots and miss you so!!!
Thanks Dottie for the wonderful updates and photo’s of Z’s career – You Rock!!!
Celeste
Thank you for sharing another wonderful training photo! Thank you also for such sweet reminders to take care in this heat. I am delighted to say that so far this morning in my Texas location it is surprisingly pleasant for a change! I know it will be hotter later, but I’m enjoying the lower temps and the little breeze while I can!! Stay cool in KY, Zenyatta, my Queen!!
Lorri
Aww Momma Z! Always looking out for others! You stay cool too with “our” baby! Ha Ha xoxo
@Gary~Good luck on your picks! I like Bourbonesque myself!

Glad you are okay, Z, but worried a bit about the horses running today at Saratoga and hope the call to race doesn’t jeoporadize any horses’ health.

Happy Friday, Zenny!
Love all these photos you’ve been sharing with us recently. You are simply beautifull from every angle!
Please tell MIKE we love him and know he’ll put this incident behind him. He has a great attitude and will “live and learn”, I’m sure. For someone who weighs 110 lbs, it must be an ongoing challenge.
We are all pulling for him to reach 5000 wins soon.
Does anyone know if MIKE or JOHN or the MOSSES are coming to Saratoga at all this year — maybe for one or two of the big races? I’m so excited to be going for 10 days in August, including the Travers. It would be a thrill to see any of TEAM Z in person!
Best to all in Zenyatta-land…

A gaze from the two-year-old Thoroughbred mare, tethered too soon at a crossroads crucial to her life, registers a presence hundreds of years on. Stephanie Adamson [ ‘s (in San Diego)’ among us] told her story on DP#302 & Judy Berube created the link from FB, ‘Keith’ first posted her FB picture. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=2203143967762&set-o.1425768994&type=1&theater Keith says she is a nice horse, sound, with a good attitude. When you look her in the eye, even in a photograph, she is something more.

Zenny- thank you for the advice about the heat. I am glad you are a “horse of leisure” while in Kentucky- it is too hot! Of course, I know you are working hard to create the Most Wonderful Baby in the world, but at least you can stand under a tree to do that! Love you and love your team<3

Hi Precious Zenny,
Yes, this is a very exciting time in racing. Are you following any 2 yr olds at this time? Love the youngsters. Sending Your Mikey special positive thoughts to get over this bump in the road. I am thinking about going to the track today to watch Cloud Man and Stary Light. Both are owned by the Moss’. Well good luck to all and safe trips. Love YOU OOOXXX

@Gary Moulton–One of your choices yesterday, Tap it Twice, is owned by an ownership group which includes Steve Bisheff, an old sportswriter friend of mine. As a result, I am eating beans this week. @Judy Berube–Even when you know, you never know. Today’s joke with apologies to those of you who like country music, of which I am one–A cowboy and a biker are scheduled to die at about the same time on death row. The warden comes down and tells them that they each are entitled to a final wish, which will be granted if reasonable. “Well, warden,” said the cowboy, “I would like to hear Achy Breaky Heart just one more time.” “We can do that,” said the warden. The warden then turned to the biker and asked him if he had one last wish. “Yes,” said the biker. “Kill me first.”
