HAPPY # 300 to ALL OF YOU!
I truly can’t believe that this is Diary Entry # 300! I guess I must be one very chatty female….with so many things to say! I can’t thank Dottie enough for expressing all of my personal thoughts, hopes, dreams, feelings, and achievements in such a way as ALL OF YOU….my dear friends….can also take part in my life and share so many things with ME!
Racing is an amazing sport! I truly feel deeply blessed for what I was able to achieve ON THE RACE TRACK. Yet, I feel equally as appreciative for the things I have been able to do FOR MY SPORT…and most importantly FOR THE FANS!
Yesterday, in a news article discussing the final statistics for the Hollywood Park Meet, they noted that the on-track attendance was down this season. Per the article, “he partially attributed this to the absence of a big draw such as Zenyatta, who raced at the 2010 spring-summer meeting”. Jack Liebau, the track President, commented…”Last year, we had a big day on account of ZENYATTA that we didn’t have this year.” (Thank you, Jack! Blush, Blush)
I know all of the numbers were up in the BREEDERS’ CUP attendance figures each of the year’s that I raced. My goodness, over 20,000 people came to see ME walk on track and say ‘good-bye’. For this, I am so, so proud!
In life, you hope to do things to make people feel good. You hope to achieve and make some type of mark. You strive to do your best and TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! But…to make history, to make people feel good about a sport again, to bring fans closer together, and to have people love ME so much not only for what I achieved as an athlete…but for ME, my personal qualities,….is truly something one DREAMS could happen to them!
One of the FACE BOOK responses yesterday by Marie Stoyles-Moura was very touching to ME. She said, “I don’t think your pedigree should read Champion–See Record—–It should read “QUEEN–See Record.”
Upon reflection, having a racing career which spanned 4 years, to have statements like the ones written above said about YOU…is so, so rewarding and extremely appreciated. MY TEAM and I can’t thank you enough.
I am one very, very grateful HORSE….for all of the gifts I have been given…which totally includes the LOVE, HONOR, AND RESPECT I HAVE BEEN GIVEN FROM ALL OF YOU!
Again, THANK YOU from the bottom of MY HEART!
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~

Rescue at River Edge: Well, the heat has definitely hampered (a Terry crow word!) some of the activities at the rescue, but it is NEVER too hot to feed treats:) Rusty and Rootbeer are holding up nicely in the hot weather. I haven’t done much with them except talk and feed and pet. Rootbeer likes to have his lips tickled- I finally found a silly little thing that would be his favorite! For Rusty, EVERYTHING is his favorite! Chester is doing well- the heat can be so hard on the older horses- he has found a cool, private spot back in some large, dense bushes. He has shelter in the barn but sometimes he just likes to “get away”. He is so dear. His special friend Sharon Call is providing funds so he can start getting “lunch” (senior feed is expensive) and vitamins. He is building muscle slowly but surely.
Little baby Sasparilla is not so little anymore! He is really a nice looking colt. His elderly former owner (of his mom and Rusty) came by recently. Jane said he was really happy to see them – he had not seen Sasparilla before and enjoyed playing with him. He said the sire was a black Tennessee Walking Horse, which we hadn’t known. I was glad he could visit.
Since I haven’t been able to do as much in the heat, I’ve been doing some other stuff that will hopefully benefit them in other ways. I have applied for a grant and written a short “Horse of the Month” piece for the local paper. They have agreed to run it monthly without charge, which is very nice of them. I am trying to learn as much as I can about rescues and FUNDRAISING- I was a child who couldn’t even sell my Girl Scout cookies so this is a big challenge! But all I have to do is think of any of “the boys” and I get pretty brave. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know!
Z Friends- I am still so touched at all of the donations that came in from Zenny’s people. Thank you<3

@Karen Mitchell–I do think this website is making us all more sensitive to tohers. Praying for you right now.
@Susan in TN–thanks for the update. So glad you are persevering in spite of the heat. I know how devastating it is and that you have already had a dangerous brush with it.@Terry Crow–thanks for asking. Charlie is much improved. We take him for a followup Friday, but he is completely normal as far as I can tell.
Great posts from everyone today. Love the Rachel/Zenny “race”, the Commentator video, and the black snake story. You guys are all the best. Hugs. And Zenny, we ALL love you always.

I’ve missed reading your diary, Zenyatta, my Queen. I’ve been out of state due to the death of my beloved sister, Mary. She was a strong woman, just like YOU. She is loved, just like YOU.
******************
I’m still not back in California, but I just HAD to take a moment and visit the last entry to send YOU my LOVE! :-)

HUGS & KISSES MY QUEEN AND BABY Z XOXOXOXO

p.s. I understand from my Z Dumpling friends, I have a lot of reading to do. {{hugs}} to them, too. XO

Wow Zenny!!! Love this photo–but then again, we all say that about every new one. :) You are the picture of health.
@Terry Crow–totally understand about the joke and the new attitude. I’ve been trying to be better at “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all”.
@Diana S–so glad that you are taking the Noor Road Trip and keeping Charlotte company. We Z’sters wait with baited breath.
@Lil in KY–Thanks for the insight into a little bit of Old Friends. More is welcome, as far as I’m concerned.
@Gloria Jeanne–praying for strength for you and your Mom. I know how draining it can be for both of you being in and out of the hospital.
@Karen Mitchell–thinking and praying for you and your mom and dad. Don’t dwell on tomorrow, live for the day.
@Lucia–I did the same for all, including Snape. But the movie really brought it to light as to what kind of man Snape really was.
@Susan in TN–I, too, was shocked about Hedwig. Was hoping she was just wounded and would turn up, like always.
Glad to hear that Chopper has moved on and joined the herd. Also glad to hear all the horses are getting by in the heat. How did you go about applying for a grant? Maybe it’s something that I could do for Equestrian Inc or ask the owner if she has done it already. Email me, if that would be easier. Thanks!
@DJ–beautiful prayers and so inspiring.
And as for you Miss Z, you do not need to thank anyone. Like others have expressed, you and your team deserve the thanks for being you and letting us be a part of you.
Have a wonderful, winged-flight night.
Lotsa love to all.

Queen Z you look as beautiful as ever, motherhood agrees with you. Is it as hot in Kentucky as the mid west? My horses had 2 baths today as the temps reached 100-105 with high humidity. they spent most of the day in their stalls under the ceiling fans or getting a cool bath.

Hi Zenyatta. What great pictures – you look so beautiful as an expectant mommy. Of course, you as Ms. Pegasus is so fitting. Thank you and your teams for all that you continue to do for charitable organizations. Thank you Dottie for sharing Zenyatta’s thoughts and dreams with all of us. I look so forward each day to our Zenyatta’s daily diaries. We are getting a new computer tomorrow – I hope everything will go smoothly and that I will be viewing tomorrow’s diary with any difficulties. Love you gorgeous mommy to be – stay cool and comfy, eat well for two, have fun and “girly time” with your BBFs. Love you, Angel in Disguise.

@Sarah, LOL. Good for you.
@Lil, Thank you for a recap of your Old Friends visit. I so hope to get there sometime this year.

Oh my goodness, Zenny–300 Diary Entries!!! Congratulations! That is Unbelievable!!! Zenny, your website should win an award!! It is simply FANTASTIC. I really mean that. It seems like YOU and Dottie just crossed the threshold of 200 entries, and I remember that was a big deal! Now you are up to 300 and still going strong. YOU and Dottie bring us new, fresh, and interesting material every day! You reflect back on your racing days, which is so much fun! We also enjoy hearing about those that were involved in your life during that time. You also tell us about your life now at Lanes End and give us updates on your former neighbors with their weekend at the races. We are so fortunate YOU and Dottie are willing to do this for us. I don’t know how you both do it, but we really appreciate it! YOU and Dottie have also brought a lot of us Z-Dumplings together, too. What fun!! Thank you so much!
Also, Zenny you look great. I do see the baby bump too!!! I can’t believe you are already four months along. Love you Zenny!!! Take care. Love, Linda

Take care of that baby of your’s sweet girl. I think I speak for all your fans when I say, “We miss not seeing ya put on your patented run.”
Sharon in Seattle
wow, the picture is so beautiful, so regal. I’ve always thought that one of the goals of these diary posts, aside from keeping us rabid Z fans in touch with the Queen, was to maintain and grow the fan base for thoroughbred racing in general. Dottie writes so well about horse racing, upcoming races and specific horses. More power to the Queen and Dottie!!!

Bless you JAG…

Zenyatta — Gosh but don’t you look beautiful! I just LOVE that sultry look and your chestnut forelock. I’m thinking of you in the Kentucky night, all cosy in your stall. And don’t worry about being so chatty — I’ll read everything you share with us because it’s always so inspiring, kind and generous. Love you, big girl.

Congratulations on Diary Post 300. Amazing how te time flies by. We have Dottie to thank again and again for putting your voice to “paper” Today’s picture is one of the most beautiful although I’ve never, ever seen a bad picture of you. It just captures your serene beauty. We have seen you in your glory, charging down the racetrack with your ears perked forward, your Mikey in the saddle, the crowd screeming your name… all that is past and only a memory. Now you get to rest and relax and have your beautiful baby. I can’t believe how hot it is in parts of our beautiful country. Here in Carlsbad, Ca it was lovely with very little humidity. Tomorrow is a big day for Del Mar and I look forward to the early morning workouts, hopefully getting a chance to see some of your John’s horses. Caracortado is here and Turbulent Descent. I love going there in the quiet of the morning almost more than watching the races. You and your connections brought so many new fans and loyal followers. With everyone else, I thank you for keeping us in your world to enjoy your daily news.
Hope the heat subsides for all of you. Take care Zenyatta.
