Good Morning,
I love this photo! This is my dear friend, April Mayberry, who came to visit ME while
she was in town this week for the Fasig Tipton Yearling Sale.
As many of you may know, I spent my very early training days with April and her Mom,
Jeanne, at the Mayberry’s Training Center in Ocala, Florida. Once purchased at the
September Yearling Sale, and my skin disease was cleared up, I was then able to
travel. Dottie made my vanning arrangements and I was off to Ocala to start my early
lessons with April and Jeanne.
They have literally known ME from the very beginning stages of my career.
It was with them that I learned so many of ‘the basics’ about being a race horse
and the foundation for my early lessons about equipment, riders, galloping, jogging,
and breezing down the lane was established.
I stayed with them until the beginning of May of my two year old year…and then I
was off to Barn 55! It was absolutely FABULOUS to see April and spend some time
with her! I even got to show her MY BABY BUMP! So much has happened in the
last several years since I was a ‘darling little yearling’ living in Ocala!
SUCH WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL MEMORIES!
It has really been an eventful week. This is very special! A second party contacted
the Breeders’ Cup on Wednesday afternoon and asked if they could MATCH
the $11,200 donation to the V FOUNDATION for the Breeders’ Cup Experience and
VISIT WITH ME! They really wanted to participate in all of this!
The BC emailed Dottie and told her of this request. Needless to say, we agreed to help
and were more than willing to make this happen. Thus, it is now $22,400…that
will be contributed to the V FOUNDATION for this BC Package and VISIT WITH ME!
Then yesterday afternoon, I was able to TANGO on the phone with ANN and wish her
a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! She was very excited to hear from ME…and SEE ME!
During our visit, she added one request…she wanted ME to be sure and THANK ALL
OF YOU FOR THE WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY GREETINGS! She was truly touched by
ALL of your thoughtfulness!
It has really been a quite a busy and FUN week. I have so enjoyed touching base with
so many of my dear friends…and of course, MY TEAM….and ALL OF YOU!
HAPPY FRIDAY!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Dear Terry Crow:
Citation running and winning a race between the Preakness and the Belmont will probably never be duplicated. It truly is amazing. But, even when you know; you never know. On the other topic, what DQ are you referring to? Hugs, J.B.

Brava, Nereid, on your dead heat Win in the American Oaks. And congrats to Star Billing on her Place. Congratulations to John on his two star filly turfers.

Wow – Dottie sure looks like a super star in the winner’s circle (and we all know she is exactly that and more. Celebrations tonight in the Shirreff’s household!

Dear Terry Crow:
I think I’m losing it. I never realized that Mikey was disqualified on Amazombie. I guess when I watched the race live, I missed the inquiry. I just watched the video again and saw the end result posted. I do think he was kind of a bully in that race. Hugs, J.B.

Congrats to Nereid, Star Billing and Dear John. Hugs, J.B.

@ Judy – Blessings to your family in this sad time. May your hearts be lifted by the happy memories with Mary.

@Rats! I didn’t convert EDT to MST for the Oaks and figured I’d have plenty of time to be here to watch! Duh.
@Anti-Rats! If my pal HappyHarriet placed my bet for me (a quinella on John’s two girls) I may have won!
@Team Z: WAY TO GO!!!
@Team Blind Luck: Way to Go! (I like you too HDG – consolation pets)

2 great races-as close as they could be! Congrats to John and his horses today!
@Anyone: What happens with a dead heat? Do the winners split the money, I guess??

Life At Ten was third at Delaware. And didn’t the Moss’s have a horse earlier at HP who came in a game 4th? Moroccan someone-

Diana S: “Anti-rats”-too funny!
@Sarah Powell: I know we had problems getting hay last year because our “supplier”(sounds like a drug dealer!) gets a lot of hay from Kentucky and the hay-growers there were selling it at a higher price to the World Equestrian Games in Lexington (or at least to individuals competing there). It was scarce for awhile!

@Judy Maas Gadwood – I’m so sorry about the loss of your sister. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

@All who prayed for our dog Charlie–Thank you all so much! He is much improved. Appetite is back, and other than sleeping a lot (from the meds, I expect), he seems to be on the mend. It may have seemed silly to ask for prayers for a simple urinary tract infection, but a year and a half ago, he had a mysterious illness that was never able to be diagnosed. We spent many frigid nights going to the Animal Emergency Clinic and having to leave him there, special food, over $3,000 in vet bills and were about ready to take him to Texas A&M when he got well. So when he stops eating, we literally “call 9-1-1!”
Zenny– I hope you have had a FABULOUS day. Take good care of that precious little one.
@Terry Crow–don’t feel alone. I didn’t realize it either (about Mikey).

What an exciting day at HP – “Carmageddon” on the 405- and a Dead Heat for Nereid…. Congratulations to the owners and “Your John” I don’t think I’ve ever seen a dead heat in person. I saw the video on Bloodhorse as no point in being on the freeway with all the 405 issues. I’m sure Dottie (hopefully) will explain in a post if they split the winnings or if they each get the same amt for both horses as they came in 1st. Congratulations to Star Billing too and of course, our beautiful Blind Luck.
