Dear Friends,
Tomorrow morning, Wednesday-July 13th, a wonderful fund raiser is taking place and I am honored to be a part of it! For quite some time now, I have worked with the Breeders’ Cup on behalf of the V FOUNDATION for Cancer Research. I am proud to say, very proud, that as of June 30, 2011, I HAVE RAISED (ME—ZENYATTA—A HORSE) $53,332.50 for this amazing cause.
Tomorrow morning, Breeders’ Cup is going to offer a travel package to the 2011 World Championship Races which will again take place at Churchill Downs. It is for the ‘DON’T GIVE UP ESPYS V FOUNDATION AUCTION’. This will take place on ESPN RADIO and ESPN2..during the “MIKE and MIKE in the Morning” program.
The winner also gets an EXCLUSIVE ZENYATTA VISIT! (That’s the part I am contributing to this.) As I’m now IN FOAL, I obviously will not be physically participating in the Breeders’ Cup Races this year…but I will truly be there in heart, soul and spirit!
I want to do MY PART to help in any way I possibly can.
Per the Breeders’ Cup official announcement, fans may bid on the package or donate to the cause by calling 1-800-4JIMMYV.
Bidding on this particular auction package will be offered from 6 to 7 a.m. ET. (To my west coast friends…I am so sorry it is this early in the morning for you!)
This package, that one may bid on during the aforementioned time frame, includes all of the following:
1) Two (2) tickets in the exclusive Trophy Lounge at the Breeders’ Cup World Championships on Friday and Saturday, November 4th and November 5th, 2011 at Churchill Downs, Kentucky
2) One (1) hotel room for three (3) nights over Breeders’ Cup weekend at an Official Breeders’ Cup Hotel
3) Access to an Official Hospitality Center at a host hotel
4) Transportation to and from the track on Friday and Saturday
5) Two (2) tickets to the Winner’s Circle Welcome Party on Thursday, November 3rd
6) Two (2) tickets to the Finish Line Celebration on Saturday, November 5th after the races
7) Exclusive: “Meet and Greet” with 2010 Horse of the Year, ZENYATTA, at Lane’s End Farm. (That’s ME!)
The funds received on the winning bid for this will go directly to the V FOUNDATION for Cancer Research.
Please note: The wording for these 7 listings for the package were taken directly from the BREEDERS’ CUP OFFICIAL announcement which was sent to Dottie yesterday by Jim Gluckson of the Breeders’ Cup.
HOOVES CROSSED that this auction item and all of the others can in some way make a significant contribution to further research and progress in our quest to fight cancer.
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~
Z
PS—Dottie was at Santa Anita yesterday morning for workouts and she wanted ME to let you know that Barry Abrams was at Clockers’ Corner. He speaks in a whisper, is texting and emailing often, but looks wonderful. To think, his procedure was only one week ago today is amazing. She told him that I’d wished him great BLESSINGS in the Diary….and how all of you expressed concern. (Per Dottie, he even BLUSHED a bit as she told him this. Hearing this, WE think, certainly touched him.) Barry wanted ME to tell all of you that your kind thoughts, prayers, and best wishes are greatly appreciated.
From ME to YOU…THANK YOU!
DJ
To Sarah P: I am very happy about that ‘coincidence’ :)
To Signofthetimes and JB: You are welcome! If there could possibly be a favorite…
To Kim S: Goodnite and see you tomorrow morning in prayer :)

Good Evening Queen “Z” why am I not suprised about the things you and your connections do for ALL charities including schools, Old Friends, TROTT and many other organizations. A Big HIgh Hoof to all associated in making this world a better place.
I am delighted to hear Barry Abrams is doing well. That is great news. Wishing him a speedy recovery!
Diana S. I want to be a DUMPLING TOO! Thank you for sharing your e-mail address. Z’s Dumplings are growing daily. Would be fun to organize a Z Dumpling Day at the Races!
For those following Blind Luck, she is running in the Delaware Handicap on the 16th. Wishing her all the best and a SAFE TRIP. I must say her owner had such great things to say about our Queen the night of the Eclipse Awards. How can you root against that! GO BLIND LUCK!!
Stay well Mama Z.
Hugs and Kisses

Zenny…you are almost as busy in retirement as when you were racing. Thank you for supporting cancer research, many lives have been extended and saved by recent discoveries. What a special package that includes a visit with you and 4 tickets to the party at Old Friends. I had the pleasure of attending one of Michael’s parties after the Breeder’s Cup and had a wonderful time and met many wonderful supporters of Old Friends.
Andrea
Just watched TVG 2009 Clement Hirsch on TVG Classics! Can’t get enough of you, Z! I wish I could bid on the BC special, oh well!

Dearest, Zenyatta. The package sounds wonderful, Zenny. It will be a once in a lifetime experience for the lucky winners and all to support the fight against cancer. You are most definitely a treasured member of the Greatness Society. You share so much with the other greats listed. You have that unique combination of amazing ability and angelic attitude. Strength, courage, grace and what an awesome heart!! A heart that carried you to 19 straight, a heart that brought you only a nose short, a heart that envelops all of those around you, a heart that encourages love, generousity and kindness, a heart that makes the spirit soar and the angels weep with joy. Heart to heart, I love you so. Thank you for being such a remarkable presence in our lives. Dottie, so glad to hear Barry is back at Clocker’s Corner. Isn’t the power of prayer amazing! Sweet dreams, Zenny. Hugs and kisses. XXXOOO
@To All My Z Friends – My three week trip begins tomorrow. How exciting!! I hope to touch base periodically, I can’t go without reading Zenny’s and Dottie’s daily posts and hearing from all of you. How great that I will actually be meeting some of you face to face along the way. Blessings to all!!!!

@Abigail —WOW, Abigail! That’s a beautiful tribute to Noor and Charlotte Farmer!

Aw gosh whoever gets to visit you is one very lucky person. Wish this could be me (:
Elaine Connors
Oh Queen Z it’s difficult not to envy whoever wins the visit with you. The whole package is wonderful but meeting you would be something to treasure for a lifetime!!! And you couldn’t raise money for a more wonderful cause. Thank you Zenyatta!!

@Michael Blowen – Some times the words thank you do not seem enough. You took the tragedy of Ferdinand and brought some light from the darkness of his death, by doing everything you can to make sure that it never happens again. To educate the public concerning the needs of equines everywhere. To bring other great champions into the warm embrace that is Old Friends. A place were they can live what is left of their lives surrounded by care and love. A place of endless pats, kisses, carrots, peppermints and praise. And finally a place where they will be laid to rest with all of the dignity and devotion they deserve. I read Val’s blog often and I am touched beyond measure with the eloquence of her words especially when the farm loses one of the “Old Friends”. I will be visiting on July 20th for the 3:00 tour and cannot wait to see you all once again, especially each and every one of your amazing residents. Hopefully you will be there also, I always enjoy so much when you join in. So, thank you for continuing to make a difference, one horse and one human at a time.

@Dawn–Bon voyage! Hope you (and your mom?) have the best trip ever. I’ll be looking forward to your posts, as always.
Trina Nagele
@Michael Blowen–Thanks for your post and all you are doing to help with Noor, as well as caring for the retirees at Old Friends (love the name, by the way).
Trina Nagele
@Gary Moulton–Thanks for the highly artistic Guinness ad.
@DJ—Thanks for the Zenyatta-with-her-Guinness video!

Zenyatta, you are such a generous soul! A benevolent queen indeed! You raise awareness for rescue/retirement causes and for cancer research, too! Thank you for all you do and for being your lovable, gorgeous self.”Love you this Big”
@Eveline and @Kris O.: Thoughts, prayers and sincere best wishes to you during these difficult times.
@Dawn Conrad: Have a wonderful trip!
@ HappyHarriet: Glad to hear from you again!

@Anne from Paramount CA: Oh, I’m well into AARP Land, as well :)
@Barbara Wood: I’ve sure found that to be true about heat being harder on horses than cold weather. Our three go inside on their own and have a fan and I am OCD about fresh water (not really-well, sort of!). It’s our oldest horse who feels it the most.
@Margaret: Have a safe trip and don’t get too tired!
@Dawn C: Left you an email
@ The Z Dumpling Convention (come on-you know it’s going to happen!)- will have to be a Dumpling cook-off :)
Marshall (girl's name)
Oh my! Not simply raising awareness, but very importantly, raising funds, as well!
Sorry, I left that bit out! Also, you(Z), Dottie, and the overwhelming majority of the wonderful posters on this site are always so positive, supportive and uplifting. It makes one feel so much better just reading the good-natured, informative, and funny posts. Thanks!!

Without a doubt YOU SHOULD BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!!!! If you need a man around take Bernie along to help you. I guess he would be Vice President Bernie. Think about it! xoxoxoxxo

@PCRMfan/Barbara Grimaldi: Both canons aimed at you. 1) Let me get this straight. If it is a waste to move Noor’s remains, is it also a waste to maintain Arlington National Cemetery? Let’s just plow up that puppy and put in another freakin’ shopping mall for the spoiled living, yes? Screw history and any redeeming lesson it might reveal to us? 2) My grand mother died of colon cancer in 1966. My mother died of colon cancer in 1977. I am NOT going to die of colon cancer. As a biologist by degree, I can assure you that my certainty comes from lots of dollars spent on awareness campaigns and research on cancer. Some of it successful, some of it not, but in science, we also gain from our failures.
@Zenyatta and Team Z: Thank ALL of you for ALL of the charitable work that you to for ALL creatures great and small, even the Barbara Grimaldies of this world!

Susan in TN: Honestly created a pretty good Dumplin` dish last Saturday in honor of the first conventioneers (& would love diastu to send a dumplin` tag, but would lose it in the rubble of late Spring cleaning) . .. not good enough to note you all the recipe, but good enough to keep tinkering. [AARP was on my trail the last second of my 49th year & ever more; they`re good trackers, but as a dear relative in her late 80s consoled, “Kathy, 50 is a baby.”].

Dear DJ: A chaplaincy, from Middle English, Old French, and medieval Latin ~ a` cappella, a ‘little cloak,’ chapel & and a special ark . .. wrapped against the storm. Thanks again, Khc.

Zenny, so PROUD of you this morning! Your package raised over $10,000 for the Jimmy V Foundation. Mike and Mike had nothing but praise for YOU …. you are so loved and rightly so.
Barbara Wood
@DJ–I always start my day with your prayer, even before I get my shower. Sometimes I hum “Abide With Me” around the house. My daughter has a stressful 2 weeks with her boss in Hawaii, and she has the shole office by herself. I cut and paste your prayers to her before she gets to work. Your sphere of influence in this undertaking may be wider than you think or can imagine.
Anne
Once again, you and your team are offering a fabulous package to help Cancer research. All the money raised through the general public alone, is amazing. You would think we would have a cure by now. What you have raised so far is astonishng! I am sure all cancer patients are thankful for your efforts.
I wish, as many other posters here, that I could bid on these items but that is not feasible. Some lucky winner is just that, lucky,to see you.
LauraJ
@Susan in TN: AARP-land. LOL!!! (The first day I got junk mail from them was NOT one of my better days.)
Dawn Conrad
Dearest, Zenyatta. I know that I will not get to meet you in person beautiful and give you a kiss on that velvet nose, but as I am standing near the stallion barn at Lane’s End you may feel some tickles, it will just be me blowing some softly your way. I trust my heart to carry them to you.
@Trina and Marshall – Thank you for the kind send off!
@Susan – Got the message and returned it. How fun that we are going to meet and I can see River Edge!!!!
@Brenda – I am on my way!!
@Shari – Cannot wait to give you a hug!!!
@Abigail – I would like to start my own Greatness Society and the name I am going to enter is yours. It will be right up there with Steve Haskin and Bill Nack. The words you use in writing about the history of the thoroughbred and those whose lives have been intertwined with that history are eloquent, moving, memorable and breathtakingly beautiful. I love reading them all. Your tribute to Noor and our wonderful Charlotte brought tears! Bravo!!!!

Dearest, Zenyatta. Oh,my!! I almost forgot, sweet dreams and hugs and kisses. XXXOOO
Shari Voltz
Dear Zenyatta. Thank you sweet girl for all you do for cancer research. Cancer has touched so many lives. My family and friends are survivors. I proudly have the Breast Cancer license plates on my car. This is a cause close to my heart because of my own surgeries. Your family is so giving and supportive of so many good causes. We are all lucky that good people exist in this world. Well Zenny I am also getting ready to visit Kentucky. I know I won’t get to see you but like Dawn said I will be blowing kisses to you. Just know that you have made a Big difference in my life and the lives of the children I teach. A whole new group will be introduced to you this coming school year. They will get to be apart of your baby. How special is that. I love you and hope you have a good day. I am sending you Big Hugs and Many Kisses, Shari XXXOOO
@ Dawn I also can’t wait to give you a big hug. Your one very special lady.
@ Susan I hope you got my email. I will call you. Dawn promised to kiss Rootbeer for me :)
Barbara Grimaldi
Wow, you guys really piled on top of me…I was concerned about Zenny’s reputation…I have contributed to every charity Zenny has posted and would not have questioned this one were it not for another Z fan who posted doubts about the charity. You don’t know me, what I do and what I believe. I made a comment based upon years of experience with cancer and you guys blew it up all out of proportion. Thanks for your friendship, and showing me the door out. Good luck to all of you but most especially good luck, health and happiness to the greatest horse in the world–the magnificent Zenyatta.

Dear Anne from Paramount, CA:
As Terry Crow said, I was there. All of you were in my thoughts on Saturday, as well, as I watched the ESPN coverage on TV. So sweet of you to make those of us who could not be there with you feel included. Now, thanks to Diana, I will soon have my official Dumpling Name Tag. Hugs, J.B.

@Dawn Conrad. How great that you’re going to go to River Edge. I wish with all my heart I could do the same. Would you please give Chester a big kiss from me? He’s my special boy. Many, many thanks!
