Dear Friends,
Tomorrow morning, Wednesday-July 13th, a wonderful fund raiser is taking place and I am honored to be a part of it! For quite some time now, I have worked with the Breeders’ Cup on behalf of the V FOUNDATION for Cancer Research. I am proud to say, very proud, that as of June 30, 2011, I HAVE RAISED (ME—ZENYATTA—A HORSE) $53,332.50 for this amazing cause.
Tomorrow morning, Breeders’ Cup is going to offer a travel package to the 2011 World Championship Races which will again take place at Churchill Downs. It is for the ‘DON’T GIVE UP ESPYS V FOUNDATION AUCTION’. This will take place on ESPN RADIO and ESPN2..during the “MIKE and MIKE in the Morning” program.
The winner also gets an EXCLUSIVE ZENYATTA VISIT! (That’s the part I am contributing to this.) As I’m now IN FOAL, I obviously will not be physically participating in the Breeders’ Cup Races this year…but I will truly be there in heart, soul and spirit!
I want to do MY PART to help in any way I possibly can.
Per the Breeders’ Cup official announcement, fans may bid on the package or donate to the cause by calling 1-800-4JIMMYV.
Bidding on this particular auction package will be offered from 6 to 7 a.m. ET. (To my west coast friends…I am so sorry it is this early in the morning for you!)
This package, that one may bid on during the aforementioned time frame, includes all of the following:
1) Two (2) tickets in the exclusive Trophy Lounge at the Breeders’ Cup World Championships on Friday and Saturday, November 4th and November 5th, 2011 at Churchill Downs, Kentucky
2) One (1) hotel room for three (3) nights over Breeders’ Cup weekend at an Official Breeders’ Cup Hotel
3) Access to an Official Hospitality Center at a host hotel
4) Transportation to and from the track on Friday and Saturday
5) Two (2) tickets to the Winner’s Circle Welcome Party on Thursday, November 3rd
6) Two (2) tickets to the Finish Line Celebration on Saturday, November 5th after the races
7) Exclusive: “Meet and Greet” with 2010 Horse of the Year, ZENYATTA, at Lane’s End Farm. (That’s ME!)
The funds received on the winning bid for this will go directly to the V FOUNDATION for Cancer Research.
Please note: The wording for these 7 listings for the package were taken directly from the BREEDERS’ CUP OFFICIAL announcement which was sent to Dottie yesterday by Jim Gluckson of the Breeders’ Cup.
HOOVES CROSSED that this auction item and all of the others can in some way make a significant contribution to further research and progress in our quest to fight cancer.
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~
Z
PS—Dottie was at Santa Anita yesterday morning for workouts and she wanted ME to let you know that Barry Abrams was at Clockers’ Corner. He speaks in a whisper, is texting and emailing often, but looks wonderful. To think, his procedure was only one week ago today is amazing. She told him that I’d wished him great BLESSINGS in the Diary….and how all of you expressed concern. (Per Dottie, he even BLUSHED a bit as she told him this. Hearing this, WE think, certainly touched him.) Barry wanted ME to tell all of you that your kind thoughts, prayers, and best wishes are greatly appreciated.
From ME to YOU…THANK YOU!

Happy Tuesday Zenny. Great pictures of you and what great work you doing.
@Eveline and Kris O–thinking and praying for you in your time of need.
@Debbie G from post #294–what a memory for you and thanks for the “peppermint” tears.
@Terry Crow–wow, another good one. :)
@Susan in TN–glad to hear about Chopper, can’t wait for a personal update. Now we’re getting tons of rain with the heat. And the pond at the horse rescue here is almost to the front stalls. Poor horses have to be let out of their stalls because it’s so wet. Glad for the rain but worried about how long the ground will stay mucky.
@Diana S–I’ll sign up for the “Tropical Southern Dumplings”, since I’m in Florida. Email you shortly :)
@Lucia–counting the days until Harry Potter.
@Gary Moulton–Absolutely breathtaking commercial.
Well Zenny, get that rest girl. Since you’ve retired, you have been busier than when you were working. I think that happens though due the fact that you have more time for fun stuff. But I’ll have to wait a little longer to find that out, maybe when my 10yr old graduates from high school. Sleep well, dearest Zenyatta.
Lotsa love to all.
DJ
To Gary M: Wow! Thank you, that certainly is a spectacular Ad! However, my vote is for a simpler and less expensive Ad. This one proves that “Wetting The Whistle Of This SUPERSTAR Will Have You Dancing and Prancing for a GUINNESS!”

Giddy-up!! :)

@DJ–Sorry, meant to mention thanks for the prayer. Got to it late so I will make it my morning prayer for Wednesday.

Thanks for the link on Top Female Race Horses
Agree with the comment on dirt, which I guess is
The earmark of a champion. At least in US.

There is no madness in having a sense of priorities. There are charities that save lives and charities that do not. Donate to those that save lives until there are none to be saved. Show me evidence that the V Foundation has saved any lives. PCRM has a long list of charities they approve of. Look at it.

Dear Queen Zenyatta (and all the Dumplingz) –
Thank you for supporting great works in the Universe, and for our Dottie, Voice of Zenyatta, giving us a propitious report on Mr. Abrams. We love to hear good news, and see those pretty pictures of the Queen.
.
It appears the PCRM is a politically active organization that also does not support the American Red Cross, the March of Dimes, the American Lung Association, and nearly anything or anyone else. They do support vegetarianism and research on humans rather than animals. It’s good to know there is room for all points of view, and that we have the FREEDOM OF CHOICE to support who, what, and how we select. Choices made by others used to be respected by civilized people and comments used to be self-filtered for appropriateness. I miss those days.
.
To my dear new Dumpling friend Diana, I was happy to see you arrived home safely. THANK YOU a million times for the effort, thought and energy you and your grandson put into the Dumpling name tag. I love mine. It’s going in a special place on my Zenyatta Wall, and I hope to wear when next we meet.
.
To all the Dumplingz who went to Barn 55: You may have noticed I am a bit of a klutz! And my pictures are – ahem – horrid. If you have any to share with me – especially the ones of Ebby eating my hat – please let me know. THANKS!
.
Stay cool, Queen Z. Big Hugs to All – HH

I also think it is a waste of money to move Noor’s body. If I was Noor I would say save my fellow horses do not waste money on my remains. I have told my daughter not to waste money on my body.

@Uncle Mo, We love you Mo and you are looking just fabulous. You please be careful, though and take it easy at first and if you really don’t feel like racing you let Mike know. I am sure Awesome Maria will still find you beautiful.

Good night, sweet Z. We hope any bad weather stays away from you. It seems that so much of the country has suffered this year. (weather.com predicts 109 for us here this weekend), and I’m reminded how I’m told that heat stresses horses more than cold. Our boarding facility brings them in during the hot day with fans running and they are turned out at night when it’s cooler.
We love you always. You are our reason for being on this site.
Susan in TN
@Peggy(N): That is so nice! There is really no such thing as “not much” when it comes to a donation-THANK YOU!
@Kim S: I’m going out EARLY to the rescue so I’ll have an update tomorrow. Rain and heat-great combination, isn’t it? I know there are so many places having droughts- wish we could spread it around! I also can’t wait for Harry Potter! Hate to see it end, though :(
@Laura J: Well said!
@Kathryn Cogswell: Very logical and fair.
@Sunny Boyd: :)
@Kathy Kimber: These things happen! It’ll all work out in the end. I can send a little more.
@Lucia : Almost Harry Potter time!
Thank you to all for the links, jokes, prayers, thoughts, ideas- you’re the best!

Hi Zenny: Wow, you should be very proud of yourself. What an accomplishment it is to raise that amount of money: $53K is quite an impressive amount!!! Also thank you for the update on Barry Abrams. It is amazing what can be done today to get folks back to being up about and feeling good. I am so happy for him. Would love to learn more about your schooling at the Breeder’s Cup. Take care Zenny.

Greetings Z from Elko NV. This is NOT my favorite place because of NV’s stand on wild horses…however this is the halfway point to my end destination so it’s a good place to stop and get some sleep.
Please tell Barry that my thoughts are with him for a full recovery. There is AMAZING video of him with Z on YouTube–if you haven’t seen it I encourage you to RACE–do not walk–right on over and watch it. You will be amazed not only by Z but by the things Barry was able to do.
Well Z I’m off to get some sleep, it’s been along day of driving with another one coming up in just a few hours. I’ll write againtomorrow
Margaret
Sorry bout that…
I was saying that I’ll write again tomorrow night and let you know I arrived safe and sound.

To those who would like a poem or a prayer:
………………………………….
Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide;
When other helpers fail, and the comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
Swift to it’s close ebbs out life’s little day;
Earth’s joys grow dim, its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O thou who changest not, abide with me.
Hold thou thy comfort before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom, and point me to the skies;
Heaven’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.
– H.F. Lyte
…………………………………..
Lord God,
give to your people the joy
of continual health in mind and body.
Guide us through the sorrows of this life
to eternal happiness in the life to come.
May our friends, relatives, benefactors
and beloved creatures, who have gone from this world, enter your kingdom of peace and light.
Anne from Paramount, CA
Hi Queen Z…first of all congrats on that special award for YOU– mentioned in the Sunday Times. Don’t know how I missed it–will have to paw (hoof?) through the papers and re-read the sports section. TOO CUTE. Also very happy to learn about Barry Abrams being at Clocker’s Corner! :) :)
@Terry Crow–your horse- baseball joke very timely since as I type this I have the All Star game on in the background.(NL leading 5-1 in 8th.) Also, as usual LOL. :)
@Diana S, good that you are feeling better! And wow, those dumpling tags will be of international fame, just like our ZENYATTA!
@Susan in TN: yes those mailings can go to anyone; your description of “yourself” very humorous. However, in our case here, those AARP mailings are being delivered correctly! (Even though we both still work…) Oh, well… :) This site–and horse racing in general– help keep us young (and me up later than usual!)
@All Dumplings everywhere, enjoying the postings. Simply cannot respond to them all, but I do re-read so I can get on the links that many of you provide. Many hoof raising thanks!
@Judy M-G:will respond to your email soon.
@Judy Berube, have meant to post to you sooner– that I thought of you on Saturday and am sorry you could not be with us in person, but of course you were there with us anyway, didn’t I almost see you at the paddock prior to Gold Cup?
@Our Queen Z: sweet dreams!
P.S. Game over,NL won.
Almost forgot: very funny bit on San Diego station (1090)morning drive Monday of the two hosts (Scott & BR) re-playing Vic S’s stretch call of the “two dudes.” They said it was their sports highlight of the weekend. I enjoyed hearing the call being replayed–how often does that occur on radio these days unless it is the Triple Crown? It is probably not funny reading it here, but trust me it really was amusing listening to these two yuk it up. They get involved at Del Mar–have a partnership, Great Friends. Okay, GOOD NIGHT!!! :) :)

P.S.
Cancer research has made enormous advances, it can’t prevent cancer, but it certainly has changed how cancer is being diagnosed and treated. The survival rates of cancer patients are much longer, 25-30 yrs ago it was a death sentence, it isn’t anymore. Tumors are now being pin-pointed to what feeds them, and what combination of chemicals will kill them. They’re working on dyes that can pin-point every cancer cell in your body and a magnetic field that attaches itself to the cell and kill it. It’s still in the labs but it’s being used on patients who have no other hope. Computers can identify tumors and direct diagnostics & treatment.
And yes, animals do benefit also, a lot of the cancer meds for people help them now. Yes, they use animals in labs but animals are also the beneficiaries.
My Peppy had Histoplasmosis, was treated with Sporanox for 6 mos. Expensive treatment, but pulled him through.
My Marmelade has Cushings, she takes Lysodren, it’s like chemo, til the end of her days. She’s into her 4th yr, without it she would die.
An elderly friend died after 14 yrs after having been diagnosed with breast cancer.
I think some might confuse prevention with diagnostics/treatment/survival.
