Dear Friends,
Tomorrow morning, Wednesday-July 13th, a wonderful fund raiser is taking place and I am honored to be a part of it! For quite some time now, I have worked with the Breeders’ Cup on behalf of the V FOUNDATION for Cancer Research. I am proud to say, very proud, that as of June 30, 2011, I HAVE RAISED (ME—ZENYATTA—A HORSE) $53,332.50 for this amazing cause.
Tomorrow morning, Breeders’ Cup is going to offer a travel package to the 2011 World Championship Races which will again take place at Churchill Downs. It is for the ‘DON’T GIVE UP ESPYS V FOUNDATION AUCTION’. This will take place on ESPN RADIO and ESPN2..during the “MIKE and MIKE in the Morning” program.
The winner also gets an EXCLUSIVE ZENYATTA VISIT! (That’s the part I am contributing to this.) As I’m now IN FOAL, I obviously will not be physically participating in the Breeders’ Cup Races this year…but I will truly be there in heart, soul and spirit!
I want to do MY PART to help in any way I possibly can.
Per the Breeders’ Cup official announcement, fans may bid on the package or donate to the cause by calling 1-800-4JIMMYV.
Bidding on this particular auction package will be offered from 6 to 7 a.m. ET. (To my west coast friends…I am so sorry it is this early in the morning for you!)
This package, that one may bid on during the aforementioned time frame, includes all of the following:
1) Two (2) tickets in the exclusive Trophy Lounge at the Breeders’ Cup World Championships on Friday and Saturday, November 4th and November 5th, 2011 at Churchill Downs, Kentucky
2) One (1) hotel room for three (3) nights over Breeders’ Cup weekend at an Official Breeders’ Cup Hotel
3) Access to an Official Hospitality Center at a host hotel
4) Transportation to and from the track on Friday and Saturday
5) Two (2) tickets to the Winner’s Circle Welcome Party on Thursday, November 3rd
6) Two (2) tickets to the Finish Line Celebration on Saturday, November 5th after the races
7) Exclusive: “Meet and Greet” with 2010 Horse of the Year, ZENYATTA, at Lane’s End Farm. (That’s ME!)
The funds received on the winning bid for this will go directly to the V FOUNDATION for Cancer Research.
Please note: The wording for these 7 listings for the package were taken directly from the BREEDERS’ CUP OFFICIAL announcement which was sent to Dottie yesterday by Jim Gluckson of the Breeders’ Cup.
HOOVES CROSSED that this auction item and all of the others can in some way make a significant contribution to further research and progress in our quest to fight cancer.
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~
Z
PS—Dottie was at Santa Anita yesterday morning for workouts and she wanted ME to let you know that Barry Abrams was at Clockers’ Corner. He speaks in a whisper, is texting and emailing often, but looks wonderful. To think, his procedure was only one week ago today is amazing. She told him that I’d wished him great BLESSINGS in the Diary….and how all of you expressed concern. (Per Dottie, he even BLUSHED a bit as she told him this. Hearing this, WE think, certainly touched him.) Barry wanted ME to tell all of you that your kind thoughts, prayers, and best wishes are greatly appreciated.
From ME to YOU…THANK YOU!

Zenyatta, you are a great American!

Hi Zenyatta. I was just telling my husband what your diary touched on today and I am crying. You and Dottie are just so awesome. Thank you for all you do for all charitable organizations. We are so happy to hear that Dottie saw Barry and pray to God for his speedy recovery. We love you so big girl – you are truly a giant of love and warmth and an angel in disguise. Please stay comfy, eat well for two and have a great time grazing and have loads of fun with your BBFs. Love you.

@Peggyone – thanks for posting the link to the Secretariat video – enjoyed it – loved him from the first day I saw him.

All: I’ll comment on Zenny’s post later tonight, but for now, send Dumpling Name Tag requests to diastu46@gmail.com. I’ll sort them by region and maybe ask one of you to help a bit getting them out. Southern Dumplings? Love it! Canadian Dumplings? Eh? Mais Oui!
@Trina and Karen: I didn’t really start this, did I? Oh well. Love it!

It is absolutely wonderful that you contribute and help raise funds for so many organizations and causes Zenyatta. It is horses like you and people like yours in Team Z that make a real difference in many peoples lives. And it is such a special thing to know that Barry Abrams is back at the track and watching the horses, he is such a wonderful and special man. Wishing him the best. Keep on shining and sparkling Zenyatta, you are brighter than any star up above! Love you with all my heart!

Zenny, you’re the gift that keeps on giving. You inspire me and many others to donate to our favorite human and animal causes. I will check out the package but there is no stopping me from donating to this very worthy cause -the V Foundation.
Thank you Zenny for the information and you take care of yourself and your baby.

So glad to hear that Barry feels well enough to go to Clocker’s Corner. That is, indeed, wonderful news!
I’m sure that if The V Foundation was not a legitmate concern Jerry and Ann and Dottie and Jerry wouldn’t have anything to do with it, as well as the folks at the Breeders Cup. It’s a wonderful opportunity for those that have the money to try for it. A good suggestion in an earlier post today about perhaps having something that folks like us could try for to get a chance to see Z in person. The proceeds could go to a charity or rescue effort. Hope something comes of that. I’d love to try for it if I can afford it.

Is there a way to confirm Phycicians Committee for Responsible Medicines` methods and criteria for including or declining favor to a charity? There are many classes of cancers — sadly more every year — and gradients of research being initiated, ongoing and changing. Perhaps more detail on PCRM rationale for their lists would clarify what may just be a matter of terminology or funding goals. With so many good reports, this news should not set off misunderstandings either way, with enough information.

You are Z best, Zenny! Thanks to you and your team for all that you do for charity. I wish I could afford the package, but I know it will go too high for me to afford. Whoever gets it is a very lucky person. I love you, Zenny!:-)
@Michael Blowen – Thanks for your post. It is so good to know that you will help raise whatever money is needed to bring Noor to KY. And it’s fantastic that you are throwing in tickets to Old Friends with the BC package. You’re an amazing man! :-)
LauraJ
@PCRMfan/Barbara Grimaldi, Team Zenyatta most certainly DOES donate to equine causes, including Old Friends and TROTT, among others. There are hundreds of good causes and thousands of charities, each near and dear to someone’s heart. Give your money to the ones that matter to you. However, insisting that one cause is more important than another—that way lies madness. Quite a few people would say that donating to animal charities is wasteful when there are starving children in Africa, just to give an example. Implying that cancer research is not worthy—lots of folks would beg to differ. And your statement: “Cancer has been a target of research for 80 years now, and no progress whatsoever” is absurd. All you need do is compare survival rates today versus 80 years ago for many cancers including breast cancer, childhood leukemia, prostate cancer, and quite a few others. Better yet, ask some of the posters here who have had cancer themselves or whose loved ones have been touched. I have never had cancer and I hope I never will, but my mother has and so have six close friends, not to mention two of my dogs and my mom’s dog. Yes, animals benefit from cancer research too. (A $100K salary is in no way exorbitant for a PhD-level researcher, by the way.)

@Michael Blowen, you guys are a class act. Kisses and carrots to the whole crew. I attended the last memorial service; it was gracefully done. (I had a share in Jade Hunter and I came for him in particular, but for all the others as well.)

ok ok not a horse person so what is schooling Zen?
Sharon Call
@Kathryn Cogswell. Excellent idea. Wish I had time to look into that. I think it would be well worth it. I do know that had my Mom lived just 20 years longer from 1976 to 1996 and had breast cancer, she would have stood a much, much better chance of surviving. it.
@LauraqJ. So well said and presented. Also so true. I love your posts. They are always so packed with information.

(Although, it should be titled Top 10 Female Race Horses of the Last 50 Years Who Happened To Run on Dirt in the United States.) :-)

@Christine in VA, it’s practice. Basically, the horse is led around the paddock area and placed in the saddling stall in order to get used to the surroundings. There’s also gate schooling, in which the horse practices loading into and exiting the starting gate.

@ Diana S Merci. I’ve sent you an e-mail on behalf of the Canadians so that we can join the Dumplings.

Oh sweet Z; Your cause is every bit of worth for this event! To be present at all that is available would be my dream come true! The whole experience awesome!
Don’t worry, I have not given up to kiss your soft nose. My husband will kill me, but, I will offer $2000 just for me & my friend, to see you and give you a kiss.
You can donate it to any charity. I am 66 yrs old; I need to kiss you; we need to tell you how great you are and how much we love you!!
Max
@Laura J. Excellent post. Zenyatta looks fantastic as usual. She is incredibly photogenic. Loved the others too. Thank you.

Terry C: Thank you for the homerun! Just proves that it is never too late for a second career. Especially since he is so good with those ‘fly’ balls.

Diana S: You are a sweetheart. I was wondering when your charity will need donations :) Cry ‘Uncle Mo’! when you are ready to ask.

@Mary, Bridget, LisaG—-I think it has been stated & explained many times on this site, as to WHY Zenyatta cannot be seen at LE. She is pregnant & every precaution has to be taken to insure her SAFETY!! Surely, this is not too difficult to understand. Of course we would all love to see her, but we must think of her & not ourselves.
DJ
To Sally B: With love like that…you will be rewarded, either way! “A kiss is the rosy dot over the i of loving.” Cyrano de Bergerac. So kiss her for all of us if you are so blessed!
Brenda
@ Laura J Well said. I have had too many basal cell carcinomas to count, the result of too much sun worship for too many years. One of the “moles” was a malignant melanoma which, thank heaven, was caught in the early stages. Research and education has made me very aware of what to look for and to make sure that I get every little freckle and mole checked out and so I am very appreciative of Team Z’s support of cancer research. GO ZENNY!!!

To Kathy Kimber:
Sorry, I thought from the article all was accomplished. We were planning to send another donation for Noor at the end of the month. We will still do that. Hugs, J.B.

It’s certainly worth a million bucks to get to visit you and contribute to this very worthy cause…wish I had the money!
Love and kisses to you and I thank you so much for the good works you and your team do.
