Good Morning,
Yesterday, I had such a busy afternoon. As I mentioned to you earlier in the week, ESPN
requested some current photos/video of ME for their Saturday afternoon Hollywood Gold
Cup-G1 television broadcast. They are in California covering this race and also
wanted to air a current update on ME!
Needless to say, I truly wanted to look my very best for this photo shoot! As you can see in
the above picture, the guys and I got busy to get my last minute ‘beauty touches done’. I wanted
to be completely ready…coat brushed, dapples glowing, mane and tail touched up, and,
of course, my hooves polished so they would reflect that perfect sparkle! (Mario would
be so proud! He has groomed me perfectly so many times…that I know JUST WHAT TO DO!)
It was truly a fun shoot…which lasted approximately 2 hours. It took a bit more
time than we had originally planned as once in a while a ‘darling little fly’…(it is that season of
the year, you know)…. decided he / she wanted to be photographed WITH ME!
As sweet as this is….we had to explain to the little creature…this was NOT happening!)
Patience, though, is a virtue and we were able to stay focused on the task at hand and
get some great material!
I’m not sure how many of these photos will be shown on this Saturday’s ESPN broadcast
…but they did take quite a bit of footage of ME at the farm….grazing, in the paddock,
and then back at my barn. I really had a wonderful time!
Per MY JOHN, ESPN also had cameras at BARN 55 yesterday morning, taking pictures
of MY STALL and my dear BABY SISTER, “E”. Jeannine Edwards spoke to John about
how she is doing and to get a current update on her as well.
Photos of ME, MY STALL, and MY BABY SIS……this is all so very special!
I must say, I am deeply touched by all of this.
It will be interesting to see how their writers and video staff tie all of this information
together in creating this segment. I’m not sure at what point in the broadcast the
ZENYATTA UPDATE will air. Dottie just checked the ESPN-TV sports programming
schedule for this Saturday…and it looks like the entire broadcast is on from 7-8 Eastern / 4-5
Pacific Time.
I do hope I look TOO CUTE!
Have a wonderful Friday! I’m off to relax outside and enjoy the day in the paddock with my
Lane’s End pals.
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~

@Karen Gogue–Thanks for the info. I will be there at the appropriate time. Just look for a short, fat geezer who looks lost. Like I said, I somewhat resemble the screaming guy in the Universal Studios commercial at the end of his age cycle. I am looking forward to meeting all of the dumplings. I am good friends with Kathy McGreevey, whose father was one of the writers for the old Waltons TV show. Her brother was a kid actor for Disney at the same time that Kurt Russell was. I guess his biggest part was in The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, billed as Mike McGreevey, which is his real name., The way Kathy tells it, Kurt couldn’t get a job when he got older. She said she cooked dinner for both of them several times when neither had a dollar to his name. Kurt got his big break when he played Elvis in a TV movie, for which he had to audition for the part. Next came Escape From New HYoprk, and the rest is history. Anyway, she took me to her father’s house in Laguna Beach fir a party. The Emmy was on display and it was all very impressive. I was feeling somewhat out of place and I noticed a lone man looking at some stuff on the walls. I went up to him and started a conversation which was quite enjoyable. Kathy came up to me and said “I see you’ve met Kurt Russell.” I was flabbergasted and apologized to him for not recognizing him. He laughed and said something to the affect that it was a pleasure to talk to someone who didn’t know who he was. I asked him who his favorite actors he had worked with and he said it was Wilford Brimley and Elvis. It turns out that he was in a movie with Elvis when he was 10 years old and has the distinction of being the only actor who has ever played Elvis in a movie and played a part in an Elvis film. I haven’t seen him for quite some time but he made a huge impression on me. He remembers what it was like to have nothing. Today’s joke–A cowboy who was supposed to be the toughest man kin the west walks into a bar. Some other cowboys walk up to him and asks him if this was true. Yes, he says. OK, the cowboys said, if that is really true you will have to go upstairs and confront the haunted coffin. No problem, says the “tough” cowboy. As he neared the top of the stairs, he saw the coffin coming near him. He ran out of the saloon and jumped on his horse. After he had gotten a good distance away from the saloon, he looks back. To his astonishment, the coffin was floating in the air, heading straight towards him. Soon the cowboy and his horse find themselves in a box canyon with steep walls. The cowboy jumps off the horse and tries to climb the walls to no avail. The coffin is floating ever faster towards him. By this team, the coffin was almost upon him. Just when he thought there was no hope and the end was near, he took out na package of cough drops and started chewing the drops. The coffin stopped.

The Kennedys in San Diego
We watched a DVD (Netflix) last night that TB racing fans will love -“On the Muscle — Thoroughbred Racing Stable.” It focuses on the the stable of Richard Mandella (Santa Anita) as he and his crew condition and race Pleasantly Perfect, The Tin Man, Kudos and others. Dottie, Mike Smith, the Mosses and others appear throughout the filming. It is well worth watching, like being a fly on the wall. I remember talking to the director at the time of filming who said the film crew had total access over an extended period of time and were barred from nothing.
Paula Higgins
She looks fantastic. Thanks for the ESPN times Dottie/Zenny! I will be watching.

@Judy Berube and Barbara Wood: Left you a message at the end of yesterday’s post.
@The Kennedy’s: That sounds fascinating- thanks!

Dearest Z– looking so forward to seeing you tomorrow. You will still be beautiful when you are very old ( and I pray you wlll have a long, healthy life). Thank you again, Dottie, and Team Z.
Susan in Tn–thanks for the good report. Baby steps (in my very limited experience) always work best, building trust, etc. We never know what a horse has been subjected to in the past.
But we still want reports on Chopper. Will keep praying.
Terry Crow
@Judy Berube and Susan in TN–Like Kim S used to say, these the jokes her father told. They are so old they’re new. @kennedys in San Diego, Thanks for the tip. Since I am a netflix client, I will order that one.

Dearest Sweet “Z” and little “z”,
Good morning to both of you and I wish you a Blessed Friday! Thank you for the new “Hoofprint.” Now that I have ‘inside’ information, I will be looking for the little fly that wants to be a star. “Oh bother!” bzzz

To Khc: Yes most certainly…and shining through a clear window pane at that. :) Thank you for the scroll story. It brought to memory the myth of the old Gent who collected wooden crosses. He was known for allowing folks who were worn out and tired from lugging theirs to come in and exchange them. Well, a young man who was at the end of his rope went to visit the wise old man on the Mountain. The older Gentleman met him at the door and said, “If you can no longer bear it’s weight, just place it inside this room and pick out any cross you wish.” The young man was filled with relief. Upon entering the door, the young man saw many crosses. Some so large the tops were not even visible. Then he spotted a tiny cross leaning against a far wall. “I’d like that one,” he whispered. The wise old man said, “My son, that is the cross you just brought in.”

Karen G: Prayers and Angel kisses to Y.O.U.!
……………………………………
Diana S: Maybe you could ask them to ‘kneel to a higher power’..horsepower:) Enjoy your special day!
……………………………………
Shari V: Thank you for the visual of the balloons. I once heard “Pop the stress balloon!” And always remembered it :)
……………………………………
Terry C: Just ‘flying’ by the seat on this one – A woman walked into the kitchen to find her husband stalking a round with a fly swatter. “What are you doing?” She asked. “Hunting flies.” He responded. “Oh. Killed any?” She asked. “Yep, three males and two females.” He replied. Intrigued, she asked, “How can you tell?” He responded, “Three were on a beer can, two were on the phone!”

Have a beautiful Today “Z” Family :)
Steph
Always looking your best Zen

Dear Susan in Tn.:
Please post everything because that is the reality of what some of these beautiful Sweeties go through. Can’t help reacting though. Hugs, J.B.

So happy you’ve mentioned Mario a couple of times this week! We miss him, too.

@Donations to Old Friends – I spoke with Michael today, Friday. Old Friends has received for this past week – $1,325, which added to last Friday’s amount of $1,160 brings it to a grand total of $2,485.
@Lois Gillespie – Thank you for your donation on behalf of Noor.
@Film clip of Noor racing at Golden Gate – I don’t know how I missed this one, but my friend at Hollywood Park brought it to my attention. At the end of Jay Hovdey’s article was a link. I thought it was the one that showed Noor racing in the Epsom Derby, but I was wrong. It is Noor racing against Citation at Golden Gate. Here is the link and per Jay Hovdey, “Here is a sample of how Noor delivered in his championship form. http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=33929
@Terry Crow – What a nice story. I have been a big fan of Kurt’s over the years. I love how he saved the movie Tombstone when it was almost scrapped, and so many classic lines in that movie. Love the joke.
@Dumplings – I am so jealous but will live vicariously through all of you, so you had better be posting your adventures there at Hollypark.
Louise Castello
So excited to see you beautiful lady. So proud of all you are. Can’t wait to see “E” as well. And how dare those flies bother the Queen!
Charlotte Farmer
@Zenyatta – C.B. de Mille would have been proud to have filmed you. No makeup necessary for you have Rita Hayward looks. Poor little fly, it wanted its close-up, but I am sure understood he was an extra, camera stays on the star. I am so glad E got into it for hopefully one day the camera will be centering on her exploits at the track.
Marilu V
Hi Zeny! Wow, 2 hours for the photo shoot. I hope you didn’t get tired. I am sure you will look fantastic when we watch it tomorrow. I will be cheering for your friends tomorrow at Hollywood Park. Hugs and Kisses going your way, Marilu
@Charlotte: Thank you for the update on the donations for Noor. I hope you will meet your goal. Marilu
