Good Morning,
Yesterday, I had such a busy afternoon. As I mentioned to you earlier in the week, ESPN
requested some current photos/video of ME for their Saturday afternoon Hollywood Gold
Cup-G1 television broadcast. They are in California covering this race and also
wanted to air a current update on ME!
Needless to say, I truly wanted to look my very best for this photo shoot! As you can see in
the above picture, the guys and I got busy to get my last minute ‘beauty touches done’. I wanted
to be completely ready…coat brushed, dapples glowing, mane and tail touched up, and,
of course, my hooves polished so they would reflect that perfect sparkle! (Mario would
be so proud! He has groomed me perfectly so many times…that I know JUST WHAT TO DO!)
It was truly a fun shoot…which lasted approximately 2 hours. It took a bit more
time than we had originally planned as once in a while a ‘darling little fly’…(it is that season of
the year, you know)…. decided he / she wanted to be photographed WITH ME!
As sweet as this is….we had to explain to the little creature…this was NOT happening!)
Patience, though, is a virtue and we were able to stay focused on the task at hand and
get some great material!
I’m not sure how many of these photos will be shown on this Saturday’s ESPN broadcast
…but they did take quite a bit of footage of ME at the farm….grazing, in the paddock,
and then back at my barn. I really had a wonderful time!
Per MY JOHN, ESPN also had cameras at BARN 55 yesterday morning, taking pictures
of MY STALL and my dear BABY SISTER, “E”. Jeannine Edwards spoke to John about
how she is doing and to get a current update on her as well.
Photos of ME, MY STALL, and MY BABY SIS……this is all so very special!
I must say, I am deeply touched by all of this.
It will be interesting to see how their writers and video staff tie all of this information
together in creating this segment. I’m not sure at what point in the broadcast the
ZENYATTA UPDATE will air. Dottie just checked the ESPN-TV sports programming
schedule for this Saturday…and it looks like the entire broadcast is on from 7-8 Eastern / 4-5
Pacific Time.
I do hope I look TOO CUTE!
Have a wonderful Friday! I’m off to relax outside and enjoy the day in the paddock with my
Lane’s End pals.
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~

@Sarah Powell: How well-said! It is like a family reunion and we’re all related to Zenny! I hope your horse is better today and hope it is nothing serious.Let us know.
I neglected to thank Dottie ans Sarah C. for all they do- I know you must both be so busy!
I left a River Edge report at the end of the last post.

Hi, Z…I’m totally excited to see the piece ESPN will do about you. I’m very confident they will do a great job, and I bet they also will post some of their extra footage about their visit with you on their web site!! For others who might not remember, prior to the BCC10, Wright Thompson did one of the most comprehensive pieces about you and your “family” in his piece titled: “The Legend of Zenyatta”. Here is a link: http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/eticket/story?page=101104/Zenyatta
Be sure to scroll down in the story and read “Ann’s Plan”. This was absolutely so sweet, I cry now knowing how hard it was for her to send you off to Lane’s End. Big hugs! Ann Maree
This piece, by the way, garnered an Eclipse Award for Wright!
Carolyn
I hope I can see your little sis tomorrow at HP!

Rescue At River Edge: Here is the happier report I promised from the last one! Sasparilla is growing like a weed! He hardly resembles the newborn pictured on FB! He is losing baby fuzz here and there and looks like he is going to be a fairly dark bay at this point. He needs an equine Nylabone or something! He wants EVERYTHING in his mouth but doesn’t quite have the nuanced skill of NOT BITING down pat yet! Well, he is only 7 weeks old-he’s way ahead of what I could do at that age!
Chester(the elderly pony) is looking good and feeling good! Jane said she has seen him running across the field, just because he can! He still loves to sidle up to me when I’m there and get “itched” all over. Makes him stretch his neck and stick out his lip-too cute! He seems much more confident and comfortable there now. I think part of it is he is physically stronger and feels like he can get away quickly if another horse tries to bother him over the fence AND the horses have actually STOPPED trying to get him over the fence. Everyone knows how Chester fits in now so they can ignore him. He does like to hang out with Azzi, the recent arrival, but Azzi has already been adopted-he leaves tomorrow. I am hoping that Chester and Chopper can be tried together. It’s not up to me but I think it might be a very good fit. If I were wealthy, I would have an Old Friends kind of place but for any older horse or pony. (I love what they do-don’t get me wrong!!) Rootbeer and Rusty are making steady progress. Rusty had his first lesson in being tied and it went great! He was a little surprised at first but I stayed with him and he quickly adapted-I kept it short-no tempting Fate! Rootbeer and I went for a walk OUTSIDE the paddock! He was so good! I felt like a proud mother! He was calm and acted like he did this every day. Again, I kept it short! When we went back in, Rusty wanted to hear ALL ABOUT IT-he was all over Rootbeer-nibbling, biting, trying to play. Rootbeer is a very calm, solid boy. They are such a good pair! I am able to curry, brush and pet both sides of him now, back to the tail. I can brush down his front legs and he is not alarmed. I think he is ready to have his front feet picked up. Rusty is good with his front feet-he struggles just a little but then relaxes. I think he is ready for the back feet. I take their treats out in a small plastic grocery bag and make lots of rustle-y noise when I’m getting treats out. Now plastic doesn’t phase them! Sometimes I drop things “by accident” and they are quite used to my clumsy ways! Horses are so forgiving-from my experience, things that seem to “just happen” are excepted much more easily than if you try to formally “present” something or “do a lesson.” Well, guess I better stop! Thank you, Zenny, for sharing your space with those less fortunate<3

Hi Z hope you are enjoying your summer so far. Was just wondering it would be great if you could have your first foal at The Kentucky Horse Park. I will be going there next yr with a friend and I would love to see your there, but of course its just a thought :) I just wish I got the chance to see you race, you are such an awesome horse!!

ME tomorrow: PPP – Whats dat you say? PADDOCK (11:30 – 12:00) PRETTY in PINK. ooh K, maybe not so pretty, but in PINK. And let’s try to meet all those who are going but didn’t let on. Please do approach us! You are one of us you know! You’ll have fun for sure! :)
LauraJ
Whie I enjoy seeing Zenyatta all gussied up for the cameras, I must admit I was hoping for a few shots of her rolling in the mud.
–
@Amanda, sorry but the Horse Park does not have facilities to foal out mares. The pairs for the Mare and Foal show come from nearby farms. Plus, there would be massive security and liability issues, not to mention crowd control.
LauraJ
@Ann Maree, that is one of my favorite Z articles. The Eclipse Award was well deserved. IMO it deserves a Pulitzer as well. :-)

Beautiful Z, those folks stayed longer NOT because of any flies. They knew they were in the presence of GREATNESS PERSONIFIED. I’m surprised they didn’t stay all day and all night. Have a wonderful weekend.

Dear Susan:
Thank you so much for these updates on the Sweeties. It’s wonderful that Azzi has been adopted. I do hope that Chester can find a friend in Chopper. If I had the means, that is what I would like to do too. Have a farm for older horses; not likely to be adopted, that will have a place to call home. Sasparilla is adorable and Rusty and Rootbeer are Too Cute. Hope Lou and Beth are well. Hugs, J.B.
