Good Morning,
I know at times I’m very casual, having fun, enjoying the moment, and using terms like TOO CUTE and IT’S ME! So much of this is meant to be playful and simply offer all of us another way to enjoy the people and things around us! I try to lighten things up a bit from the regular routines we all experience each day. However, in the Diary, I also acknowledge and respectfully honor the serious things that go on in all
of our lives. On this particular day, I would like to be very serious.
The Racing Community is like one HUGE FAMILY. You can travel around the country and often see many of the same people at the different events and venues. My John, years ago, became very friendly with Larry Jones. When they both shipped into Churchill Downs for various stakes races, they would be stabled together and got to know each other very well. This represents one of the FUN parts that goes along with racing…cultivating the friendships one is able to develop along the way!
Obviously, we are all participating in a sport. The primary objective for everyone is WIN! Thus, you are constantly competing against one another. That is the nature of all sports in general. However, it does not mean that you are not sharing a friendship and a bond with your fellow racing competitors. You are…and the basis for all of this in our sport is the ‘LOVE’ of HORSES. So many people work very hard…and always strive to do their best! I know MY TEAM sincerely wishes others success in all that they do!
On this particular day, there are 2 people MY TEAM and I would love to send our best wishes to for a SPEEDY RECOVERY.
In California, we have a very hands-on trainer named Barry Abrams. Barry came to visit ME when I was at BARN 55…and he is a very dear man. Last Tuesday, he had a very serious surgery. I want to send him a HIGH HOOF and wish him ALL OF THE VERY BEST as he recovers. This is the 2nd time he has had this type of surgery…the last one took place 6 years ago. So, our thoughts are with Barry and his family as he recovers during the upcoming summer months.
Additionally, MY TEAM read that Rosie Napravnik is having surgery this morning on her arm / wrist. Rosie has had a tremendous year winning many races and riding titles. The anticipated time for her recovery is yet unknown. They will have to see how things go, according to the DRF, before they know when she can return to riding. We would like to wish her ALL THE BEST as well!
On a very serious side, I’d like to send all of our friends who may need a HUG a big one. It never ceases to amaze ME how quickly in life things can change…in a moment! To ME, that’s why it is so important to truly enjoy and appreciate the healthy and happy times….as well as being respectful of the challenges that may develop….not only for yourself…but others.
With Love,
Hugs to All~(Rosie and Barry…especially thinking of YOU today!)

@ Judy Berube—Thanks for the link to the story of the jockey Joe Rocco Sr., battling his way back time and again from injuries. The closing words—“I’m going to keep working hard. No matter what, I’m here to stay. I’m sure it will be OK”— are good ones for us all to live by, and especially appropriate with today’s diary entry and comments.

Hi Zenny: In life friendships and relationships are so important. Wishing both Barry and Rosie a successful and speedy recovery! I am so sorry for both of these folks. Rosie Napravnik’s career has really come along this year. I am sorry I didn’t get to see her ride Pants on Fire at Monmouth Park. I am so happy that Larry Jones is back training for Fox Hill Farms. He seems like such a nice and caring person.
Well Zenny I made it. Here I am in Santa Monica. I am planning to visit Barn 55 tomorrow morning. Then on Saturday, I will be at the Gold Cup Races on Saturday. I am hoping to meet some of your CA fans. I’ll be sitting in the Turf Club Restaurant. I will be wearing a peach flowery sundress. Please come by and say hello. Also please let me know if I can meet up with you at a particular spot. Take care Zenny. Love, Linda

Hi Precious Zenny. Will keep Mr. Abrams and Rosie in my prayer. It was nice to see Mr. Abrams in the winner circle on July 4th at Hollywood with Party Ruler. So happy for him. A speedy recovery to both. God Bless to all. Love YOU OOOXXX

@Linda in NJ—Welcome to SoCal! We’ll all be looking for you on Saturday! If you want to e-mail me at trinambn@yahoo.com, maybe we can discuss details for tomorrow.
@Judy Berube (again)—Judy, if I may ask, is your last name pronounced with three syllables? In case you are wondering about mine, it’s three syllables, accent on the first syllable, which is pronounced like “neigh.”
I got it from my first husband, who is from Liechtenstein, and in dialect there it means “carnation.” I liked that, and I still like him too, so I kept the name (better than my maiden name “Broad,” huh?)

Lots of prayers, hugs and kisses to all and Zenyatta, I wish I could give you a big hug and kiss good night – love you so much, sweet girl –

Quote from His Holiness the Dalai Lama: “Compassion is of little value if it just remains an idea. It must motivate how we respond to others and be reflected in all our thoughts and actions.” Zenyatta, you embody the spirit of compassion, as do all of your connections. Your leadership is most appreciated and warms the heart of all who know you. I am sending healing thoughts and prayers for all in need, as all in this loving community are doing. <3 <3 <3

I’m sending hope and prayers to both Barry and Rosie that they both have quick and successful recoveries. Thank you for reminding us how important friends and family are and that we should be grateful in the good times and loving and supportive through the tough patches.

Good night Sweet “Z” and little “z”,
It has been a long ride today..literally. We just arrived home after the adventure of a flat tire. Thank His Goodness my son decided to exit the freeway due to traffic right before the tire blew! We waited for over an hour in the 100 degree weather for our roadside assistance and were rewarded with a gentleman whose relaxed demeanor and good humour were a welcome surprise. After a full day of changing tires in this heat, we were his last call. As he was dripping with sweat, and covered with black soot from dust and tire debri, with only his eyes and big smile unaffected, he asked if we needed a tow. I replied no, we have a spare. He then said, “So you’re going to make me sweat!?” He then smiled and lay down in the dirt and proceeded about the business of removing and changing the tire. All the while offering good spirits and advice. It is true that living saints are hidden everywhere, especially in the unlikliest of places. I have found that it is always their joy that gives them away!

How lovely of you to think of Barry and Rosie and remind us all that life, just like racing luck, can never be predicted. We can learn so many lessons from this great sport!
Irene Caty
Zenny, you are right, things in life are not always a bed of roses and we pray for those with health problems that they will recover and be ok. It always hurts to see friends and realitives with health problems. We have to reflect on the good times and see the better times and we must pray those times will be once more. Life is really hard and as you say see and smell the roses while you can. Love you Zenny and I always will.

Healing thoughts and prayers to Barry,Rosie, and all who are in need! Thank you for sending your special thoughts to all of us. I needed to hear those today.

Dearest Z and Baby Z– what a wonderful family you two (with Dottie’s help) have provided us here. We can bare our souls, learn new things, and support and pray for each other. It is a wonderful thing to me. Love you ALL always.
Would really love to meet each of you.

Zenyatta, the world is definitely a better place because of you and your cute dapples. I just read your story on http://www.winterquarterfarm.com. There is a “Zenyatta” pulldown menu at the bottom of the page. It’s absolutely a miracle that you ever made it to the track. But boy are we so glad that you did. Love ya.

To D Franz: I hope your Father and your dog (perhaps best friend?..I know mine is) are both up and about soon! God-willing. A candle is lit with prayers for your family.

Hello Lady Z. I am sending my very best to your friends and their families. You are right. Things can change in an instant. I am a Fan of Barbaro and I remember that Mrs. Jackson said to Live the Moment. Enjoy this beautiful world around us and always give our best. Things can change in a blink of an eye. Hugs to you beautiful Lady Z.

@Shari, praying for a speedy recovery for you.
@Stephanie…from another Stephanie (aka S). I pray that you know the Lord and will seek him during this difficult time. There have been times when I have felt that nothing was working the way I had planned.(I think we have all had those periods in life) No matter how tough…I knew that someone much bigger and stronger then me, knew how I felt, was holding me and would lead me (carry at time) through. He has been Faithful. God Bless and sending you a big Z hug.

@Trina Nagele: Thank you for reaching out to me. I sent you an email. Did you mean tomorrow or Saturday? I am so tired. Very long day. Hope to talk with you later. – Linda
Anne from Paramount, CA
@Queen Z and Dottie, thanks so much for your thoughtful comments with this diary. Sending best wishes, positive thoughts and horse hugs to Barry and Rosie. Sometimes Rod will have a brief exchange with Barry at Clocker’s Corner (for example), asking him what he thinks of a particular horse. Barry never fails to respond. He even said good things about Rightful Image on the day he won. I am not saying that to “name drop,” just to extend the feelings here about what a good person he is, as you know for sure, right Zenyatta?
@Kathryn Cogswell, SO much enjoyed that video of those two. Sure was soothing to watch. :) Recommended viewing…four high hooves!
@DJ, LOL at your joke! Very funny.
@ Ingrid in MA, @Stephanie @ Lucia…more hugs going your way from SoCal…and to all who need them, sorry can’t remember everyone…so many doing the best you can under trying circumstances, amazing what you all have gone through.
@Especially Horses and ZenyattaloverAmy, thanks for the update on Animal Kingdom. They are talking about him for Dubai next year…sure hope he is okay to race again, period. I have a soft spot for him.
@Gary Moulton,thanks, been a while since I have read/heard that pilot story–still good! :)
@Linda in NJ (now in SoCal), welcome! I have found that once you are inside the track (any track) one forgets about the surrounding territory…in fact one forgets about almost everything else. As one of our local radio hosts likes to say, “Forty nine (or fill in number) races to take your worries and troubles away.” (Right, Terry Crow?) At least we can try!! Enjoy the turf club Linda!
@All again, ESPN Gold Cup hour is 4-5 Pacific time! Double check, but I think that is correct. Good luck to all on Saturday and a BIG heartfelt THANKS to TEAM Z for being there for us. Hoping see my fellow dumplings! :)
Linda in NJ
@Anne from Paramount–thank you. I am enjoying my visit so far.
