HAPPY 4th OF JULY!
I want to wish all of you a fantastic HOLIDAY WEEKEND and a very safe July 4th.
While many people will be off to the races, walking on the sand, and enjoying great barbeques, I’ll be here at Lane’s End having a special time as well. MY JOHN and his crew will be racing.
I’m looking forward to enjoying the sunshine, grazing on the bluegrass, and eating some of my favorite TREATS! As you can see, I’m happily awaiting a few bites from my ST. LEO’S friends in this photo. This is a visit I did to help fund-raise for a local school. I must say, the ladies were so gracious and brought ME the perfect treats!
The holiday weekend is also filled with a large number of fabulous stakes races. One in particular is of great interest to ME. On Monday, my dear, dear friend, HARMONIOUS, is running in the ROYAL HEROINE G-2 at Hollywood Park. It is one mile on the turf. This will be her first start since February when she tried the dirt at Santa Anita. Harmonious has a wonderful past performance record. She is a very accomplished turf filly by Dynaformer out of a mare named Jade Tree! I’m wishing her ALL THE BEST!
Harmonious and I spent a great deal of time together at Barn 55. We not only grazed together each morning and afternoon, but we shared MARIO as our groom. He is truly one terrific guy! As we would often be outside at the exact same time, Mario would be with ME and Frank would be with Harmonious. It worked out perfectly for everyone.
I believe this is one of the reasons why it was such a smooth transition for ME to share a paddock with other horses once I acclimated to life at Lane’s End. It was such a familiar and comfortable situation as I have literally spent years outside grazing at Barn 55 with other horses close by: Tiago, Life Is Sweet, Zardana, After Market and Harmonious to name a few. We always respected each other’s space, which is so important, and simply enjoyed sharing our time outdoors with each other. We could literally stand there and look around for hours and hours. We weren’t necessarily ‘eating anything’…we were just enjoying the time outdoors! Hmmmm, I still do that!
I’d personally like to wish HARMONIOUS and VALERIA (one of my Moss pals) GOOD LUCK in their races. They are both running on Monday, the 4th! Such FUN!
Enjoy your Holiday!
Please be safe!
With love,
Hugs to All~

Off to church in a few minutes, but I want to wish Z a beautiful Sunday morning. I am so thankful, sweet one, that you are not suffering in this central Texas heat. 19 days since June 1 over 100!
Jackie–I love Lava Man. Thanks for the link.

Thank you for sharing more wonderful photos with us! I love how there is a look of concentration on your face as you stare at that bag of carrots – it is too cute. Thank you also for sharing the photo of Harmonious – I am looking forward to her race and wishing her safe trip and happy winning! This blog/diary is such a wonderful place to visit and when I have time, to read everyone else’s comments regarding this deep love for Zenyatta and all other horses. So many of you are doing so much in so many ways and it is wonderful. Thank you Zenyatta and Dottie and all of you who share here.

Possibly giving up our cup of coffee out, or a pizza or sandwich we can all make “The Difference” needed! I just did. It is easy…just send a check to Old Friends or click on this website and scroll down to “Make a Donation.” Please memo it ‘For Noor’s Disinterment & Burial’ Someday, our Great Beloved Zenyatta will also be facing a place of eternal rest. Let’s do this in her name and give Noor the dignity he so deserves for a his final home. Charlotte Farmer, with the spirit of St. Francis, is undertaking an enormous gift of love for Noor and for all of us! Let’s assist her in her good works. http://www.oldfriendsequine.org/

Good St. Francis, you loved all of God’s creatures.
To you they were your brothers and sisters.
Help us to follow your example
of treating every living and deceased creature with kindness and dignity.

Bless the beasts and the children
For in this world they have no voice,
They have no choice.
Bless the beasts and the children,
For the world can never be
The world they see.
Light their way
When the darkness surrounds them,
Give them love.
Let it shine all around them.
Bless the beasts and the children.
Give them shelter from a storm.
Keep them safe.
Keep them warm.

To all my American friends here on zenyatta.com, have a lovely July 4th celebration and enjoy the long weekend doing all of your favourite things!
Zenny: I will never stop adoring your “dirty blonde” forelock. The first time I saw it clearly, I thought it was a camera glitch. But now I look for it each time I see your photo. Love you, big girl!
@ Charlotte: I read Haskin’s blog this morning and I agree that it should spark donations. But nothing could be as eloquent as your own journey with Noor, Charlotte. I’m so proud to have made a donation from THE VAULT and its readers to Noor. You are one exceptional lady and I so admire you!
@ Judy (Maas) Gadwood: Had it not been for you, I would have missed So You Think’s victory. I just love this horse and was so happy to see him manage a gr.1 win in the UK. As you know, he was a GREAT champion in Australia and his former trainer was beside himself after the Ascot loss. I rushed off to http://www.racingpost.com to see the replay & hear the interviews. THANK YOU!!!
@ Judy Berube: Loved the “Voices of Experience” article! I actually intend to write one or two articles for THE VAULT on thoroughbreds and their best friends — almost always the grooms, as was the case for Man O’ War, Secretariat, Personal Ensign and so many others. Thanks so much for the link. I also HUGELY appreciated the link on Take Control. I remain a big Azeri “groupie” and am still unhappy that she was sold to Japan, although she will without question bring good bloodlines to the Japanese thoroughbred. But, geez, I miss her so much! Just the way we would if Zenny were far, far away……
Trina Nagele
Bravo, Charlotte Farmer! Your comments are up and running on Steve Haskin’s blog! He responded to your comment, thanking you and saying that he has posted the article also on his Facebook page! High hoof to you!

Hi Zenny: Happy July 4th. Happy Birthday America! Thankfully we live in the “Land of the Free” only because this is the “Home of the Brave.” Thank you to our military men and women who keep us safe.
Zenny, I hope you and all Z fans are enjoying this holiday weekend with their friends and family. Unfortunately, it is a rainy day here in NJ. I hope the weather clears up later this afternoon. Sounds like all of you in CA will have a fun day at the races tomorrow. I wish Harmonious and Valeria and the Moss’ and your John the best of luck.
@Judy (Maass) Gadwood ~CA: Thanks for the video of Renny. Too Cute!!
@judy berube: Thanks too for the video on Wimp. Again, Too Cute!
@Charlotte Farmer said: You are truly a very caring person. It is so nice that you have put so much love into moving Noor’s remains to Old Friends. I recently made a donation to “Old Friends;” however, after reading your post and Steve Haskin’s article, I will gladly be making another towards Noor’s move.
As always, thank you Dottie for thinking of us with this post.

@Abigail from Montreal–Happy Canada Day weekend!

Dear Dottie and Zenny and Team: We will all understand if you would like to take a breather on this fine Sunday. I so love the photos and stories and posts from my friends here, but I have to wonder – when do you sleep???
@Kennedys in San Diego & Linda in NJ: Perhaps you can give Linda a meeting place in the Turf Club, then join up with the rest of us?
@Director of Dumplings (that’d be you, Karen Gogue!): My herd instincts are kicking in (Zenny, you understand, yes?) and I’m wondering if you can give us a meeting place and time for the 9th? And where to meet if we miss the time above? By my count, it looks like at least 10 people have said they will be there – would you like me to make name tags?
@terry crow: Is your friend well enough to come on the 9th? He’ll be surrounded by “girls”!
@Judy M-G: Renny and the Bucket was a hoot! I am convinced that only very intellegent horses invent games to play to keep themselves amused.
@Finally (yay!): Happy Birthday America! and to my grandson Jeffrey – born on the 4th of July! 12 years old – TOO CUTE!!!

Dear DJ:
St. Francis is one of my favorite Saints. We have a wooden statue of him in our yard where our precious little girl poodel we had for 17 years was laid to rest. Also love that poem. Hugs, J.B.

@Diana S;Linda in NJ; Karen Gogue et al. We will be happy to link up with Linda in NJ near the Maitre D’ in the Turf Club and then meet with the others. Sounds like fun. Terry Crow, tell your friend he will not be the lone guy. I am bringing two – the other half of “The Kennedys” and a good friend — both lovers of all things Zenyatta. Carole

@Diana S-Don is sticking close to home. Thanks for asking. @Kim S-This is not today’s joke, that will come after this note. Man on phone–Is this Mrs. Green? Woman at other end–No, this is Mrs. Brown. Man on phone–Sorry, I must be color blind. Today’s joke–A man owned a filly which was winning everything in sight. However, as the horse grew older it developed behavorial problems. When the horse ran at night, it still won all its races. However, when the horse ran during the day it would finish dead last. The owner consulted vets and other horse whisperer types, but the pattern continued. You guessed it, he had a real nightmare on his hands.

@Charlotte Farmer — What beautiful, thoughtful, loving planning you have undertaken for Noor. It is truly moving.

Dearest Z,
Happy Fourth of July to you, beautiful girl! I hope this weekend is very special and fun for you. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for your Barn 55 friends and will definitely watch their races.
Being with our friends and family and celebrating our freedom is what Independence Day is all about. And isn’t it lovely that you have the freedom to spend time with your special friends, too!
Love and kisses,
