HAPPY 4th OF JULY!
I want to wish all of you a fantastic HOLIDAY WEEKEND and a very safe July 4th.
While many people will be off to the races, walking on the sand, and enjoying great barbeques, I’ll be here at Lane’s End having a special time as well. MY JOHN and his crew will be racing.
I’m looking forward to enjoying the sunshine, grazing on the bluegrass, and eating some of my favorite TREATS! As you can see, I’m happily awaiting a few bites from my ST. LEO’S friends in this photo. This is a visit I did to help fund-raise for a local school. I must say, the ladies were so gracious and brought ME the perfect treats!
The holiday weekend is also filled with a large number of fabulous stakes races. One in particular is of great interest to ME. On Monday, my dear, dear friend, HARMONIOUS, is running in the ROYAL HEROINE G-2 at Hollywood Park. It is one mile on the turf. This will be her first start since February when she tried the dirt at Santa Anita. Harmonious has a wonderful past performance record. She is a very accomplished turf filly by Dynaformer out of a mare named Jade Tree! I’m wishing her ALL THE BEST!
Harmonious and I spent a great deal of time together at Barn 55. We not only grazed together each morning and afternoon, but we shared MARIO as our groom. He is truly one terrific guy! As we would often be outside at the exact same time, Mario would be with ME and Frank would be with Harmonious. It worked out perfectly for everyone.
I believe this is one of the reasons why it was such a smooth transition for ME to share a paddock with other horses once I acclimated to life at Lane’s End. It was such a familiar and comfortable situation as I have literally spent years outside grazing at Barn 55 with other horses close by: Tiago, Life Is Sweet, Zardana, After Market and Harmonious to name a few. We always respected each other’s space, which is so important, and simply enjoyed sharing our time outdoors with each other. We could literally stand there and look around for hours and hours. We weren’t necessarily ‘eating anything’…we were just enjoying the time outdoors! Hmmmm, I still do that!
I’d personally like to wish HARMONIOUS and VALERIA (one of my Moss pals) GOOD LUCK in their races. They are both running on Monday, the 4th! Such FUN!
Enjoy your Holiday!
Please be safe!
With love,
Hugs to All~

Dear Gary Mounton:
Thanks for the article and video on TRF event at Saratoga. Love that track and the town. You’re right, the whole area has a history. (The Battle of Saratoga Oct. 17, 1777). Hugs, J.B.

Good luck to all of Zenny’s friends on July 4th!!!!!! Good luck to John and Dottie, Jerry and Ann Moss especially. The pictures of all these horses are beautiful and make me smile ear to ear. Truly GOD’S gifts to us. By the way, my nephew who is something of an artist saw my Zenyatta bronze and commented on its beauty. He thought the quality was amazing and the sculpture beautiful. I told him Zenny’s story and he was very impressed. I told him he was getting the statue in my will!

Happy 4TH Zetty!!!!

Happy 2nd of July Zenny. Looks like you are having or had a wonderful, treat-filled visit.
@Terry Crow–lol, no walk home for me. And today’s joke was like night and day. :)
@Judy Gadwood–thanks for the link of the little foal playing with bucket. I really laughed out loud a couple of times at that character.
@Cahrlotte Farmer–Steve Haskins article on Noor was fantastic. I’m sure the donations will speed up now.
Zenny, it’s late gotta get some rest. Have a great Sunday and Monday, the 4th.
Not sure I will get to your diary tomorrow but will certainly try.
Happy 4th to everyone. God bless our troops, human and animal. Lotsa love to all.
Sue Fredrick
@Judy Berube, thank you so much for that article on Take Control, it was dated 2009 so where has he been, injured? Thanks again for your detective work.

@TOO ALL:TO NOOR: It has been a long and a kind of rough day for Charlotte. When she first told me about the box for Noor I cried to think of the Love and Respect she is showing this beloved horse. She is a very special lady. She honors Noor and she brings honor to herself with her actions.

RE NOOR: This has been kind of a rough day for Charlotte. When she told me of her plans for Noor’s box it brought tears to my eyes. She is showing so much love and respect for this horse. He has been part of her life for the last three years. She honors him and in doing so she is honoring others who have gone before that we can no longer help.
Barbara Wood
@Charlotte Farmer–You have my deepest respect and admiration for what you are doing for Noor. Praying the donations will come flooding in.
Good night, sweet Z, and sweet baby dreams. You’ll never know (well, maybe you will) how much your little one will be loved.

Dear Sue Fredricks:
That’s a 2009 article and all I could find was a reference to a right front shin injury, but no article. Take Control only ran that one time in 2009 and won his Maiden race. I saw a race fans forum that indicated he had a work in June of 2010, but I guess he wasn’t ready to race. This work today, let’s hope, means he is recovered. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Kathy Kimber:
You are so right, Charlotte Farmer is a special lady. Hugs, J.B.

To Signofthetimes:
I hope Shackelford races at Saratoga. He’s a warrior. I’ll be watching for him and Mucho Macho Man. Can’t wait to see what MMM can do with a clean trip. Hugs, J.B.

Good Evening Queen Z. How patiently you await your treats! Cute picutre. As if there are any photos you take that aren’t cute!
I was rooting for Amazombie, but he never fired! Smiling Tiger was just too tough! Looking forward to watching Harmonious race on Monday. Hoofs Crossed!
Judy MG cute video. Thanks for sharing.
Does anyone remember Lava Man? What a great race horse. He was purchased in a claiming race and had such a tremendous career. Since he is a gelding I believe he was brougt back to Doug O’Neil’s barn. cute video of him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAlC6O4fVOM
Wishing eveyone a wonderful 4th.
Good night sweet girl.
Hugs and kisses

Dear Zenyatta & Team Z: This site once again has provided a focal point and gathering spot for people (and animals)making a difference – even in the face of incredible odds. Thank you. To wit:
@charlotte farmer: I had so many post responses lined up, but the news of Steve’s article on Noor’s journey and your wonderful efforts to make it happen trumps everything! Dear friend, it IS going to happen! I am honored to be even a teensy bit involved in this pilgrimage. The fine touches for his casket and burial icons brought tears. Do please have the archeologist, Erin, document everything – cultural resources, both prehistoric and historic, are so very important. When they are gone, without documentation, there is no bringing them back. I will talk to you soon.

@Dawn Conrad: Even though it is “yesterday’s news” I just wanted to tell you that your homage to horses in our history was stunning! You have a gift and when I see you are posting, I know I’m in for a show stopper! There are a couple of people on this blog that really MUST consider writing a book someday, and you are one of them! I bow to you.

@Okay, I am crying again. Thank you all for the kind words on behalf of Noor. I am first, last, and always his voice.
@Barbara Wood – I too would love to see a picture of Sophie again. She is just darling.
@Terry Crow – God created you to share your humor with us. Good medicine for the soul. Again, love the western joke. I wasn’t ready for that punch line.
@Trinia Nagele and All Z’s Fans – I am adding my voice to Trinia’s in saying please get ahold of Karen Gogue regarding the surprise for Dottie.
@Barbara Grimaldi – You mentioned Turner Classic Movies and Roy Rogers, yes. Today, on one of our stations here they played Francis Goes to West Point. I love hearing Chill Wills voice; in fact, he even appeared in one of Francis the Talking Mule’s movies, Francis Joins the Wacs.
Regarding Mister Ed, in the beginning they did use a form of mess in Ed’s mouth to make it move, but Bamboo was such a smart horse that he eventually started moving his mouth when the actors stopped talking. He was one very smart horse.
I would bet the store that many of us on this website could name at least 12 horses from the Silver Screen, television, and history that were our favorites. Okay, Charlotte, get off the soapbox again.
@Zenyatta – I am sure you enjoyed your treats especially the baby carrots. Good luck Harmonious I hope you win the Royal Heroine. Hooves crossed. Lucky Mario to be shared by the two of you, and isn’t it nice to be in the company of good friends such are your Harmonious? I am sure they ALL miss you beautiful lady. Have a wonderful Fourth of July. I love you Zenyatta!

@To my Z family: I will post a few more things tomorrow, but want to wish you all a safe and happy 4th with your family and friends. I sooooo look forward to seeing some of you on Hollywood Gold Cup day! What a day it will be – Dumplings everywhere, Moss awards, Blind Luck, and Terry Crow, oh my!
@To those who serve (and I include first responders), or their kith and kin – THANK YOU!

@Charlotte Farmer—Your plans are very touching and beautiful. Why don’t you share this information in the form of a comment to Steve Haskin’s article? I’ve already posted my comment on his site, but it is of course not nearly so moving as what you have posted here. The link again: http://cs.bloodhorse.com/blogs/horse-racing-steve-haskin/archive/2011/07/02/old-friends-awaits-noor-s-remains.aspx (thanks, Judy Berube!). Together we will get there!
@Judy Maass Gadwood–Renny and the Bucket—too cute! Thanks!
@Mary M. Meek—Great photos of Z and Harmonious at Churchill Downs! Thanks!
@Judy Berube—That’s a great link to tales about grooms, “The Voice of Experience.” Also the link to the foal with the horse ball–too cute for sure! Thanks!

Happy 4th of July to you too Zenyatta. I’m glad you still keep in touch with Mario!!!

@Dawn Conrad: I was checking the previous post and came upon your absolutely exquisite post in re the role of horses through history. What a wonderful bit of prose — I agree with fellow posters that you really should be writing professionally! You truly do paint pictures with your words. Magnifique!!
Only the horses exceed the beauty of your words! Thank you and may #1176 be enacted. Not a single one of those politicians could deny you if you were reading this in the chamber and looked them in the eye! Bravo!
Happy Fourth!

Agree with all of Trina’s comments above! I went to all the links and enjoyed them all-thank you, everyone!
Happy 4th and happy Canada Day to Brenda and Victoria and Abigail! If I have overlooked anyone, my apologies!

Update on the River Edge Farm Horse Rescue fundraiser contest to name Cheyenne’s foal — Wow! Now the name race has changed! Happy Ever After has surged from last to first by a nose (remind you of anyone?) with 130 points, just ahead of Sasparilla (who still is holding at 125 points), followed by a NEW ENTRY Spirit (100 points), Rollo (50 points) and Becket (15 points). You can still make a donation for your favorite via PayPal, but the contest ends on the Fourth of July. http://www.riveredgefarmhorserescue.org/

@Trina Nagele – I posted my comments from the Zenyatta’s site. Will have to wait and see if they edit it or decide not to post it at all.

HELLO! QUEEN Z

I HAVE SOME OF YOUR PICTURES ON TOP OF MY FIREPLACE AND NEXT TO MY HEADBOARD. I SMILE EVERYTIME I SEE THOSE PICTURES. ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY & OF COURSE YOUR TREATS!!!
Kathy Kimber
@Jackie: Thanks for the video on Lava Man. I so loved to watch him run. I know he had stem cell therapy and they brought him back to the track to race but decided to go ahead and retire him again. I believe someone mentioned a few posts back that he is now a track pony. I hope eventually he can go to some place like Old Friends where we can all visit him

Miss Zenyatta it is Sunday how about waffles and apple butter for brunch this morning. Love you beautiful girl.
