HAPPY 4th OF JULY!
I want to wish all of you a fantastic HOLIDAY WEEKEND and a very safe July 4th.
While many people will be off to the races, walking on the sand, and enjoying great barbeques, I’ll be here at Lane’s End having a special time as well. MY JOHN and his crew will be racing.
I’m looking forward to enjoying the sunshine, grazing on the bluegrass, and eating some of my favorite TREATS! As you can see, I’m happily awaiting a few bites from my ST. LEO’S friends in this photo. This is a visit I did to help fund-raise for a local school. I must say, the ladies were so gracious and brought ME the perfect treats!
The holiday weekend is also filled with a large number of fabulous stakes races. One in particular is of great interest to ME. On Monday, my dear, dear friend, HARMONIOUS, is running in the ROYAL HEROINE G-2 at Hollywood Park. It is one mile on the turf. This will be her first start since February when she tried the dirt at Santa Anita. Harmonious has a wonderful past performance record. She is a very accomplished turf filly by Dynaformer out of a mare named Jade Tree! I’m wishing her ALL THE BEST!
Harmonious and I spent a great deal of time together at Barn 55. We not only grazed together each morning and afternoon, but we shared MARIO as our groom. He is truly one terrific guy! As we would often be outside at the exact same time, Mario would be with ME and Frank would be with Harmonious. It worked out perfectly for everyone.
I believe this is one of the reasons why it was such a smooth transition for ME to share a paddock with other horses once I acclimated to life at Lane’s End. It was such a familiar and comfortable situation as I have literally spent years outside grazing at Barn 55 with other horses close by: Tiago, Life Is Sweet, Zardana, After Market and Harmonious to name a few. We always respected each other’s space, which is so important, and simply enjoyed sharing our time outdoors with each other. We could literally stand there and look around for hours and hours. We weren’t necessarily ‘eating anything’…we were just enjoying the time outdoors! Hmmmm, I still do that!
I’d personally like to wish HARMONIOUS and VALERIA (one of my Moss pals) GOOD LUCK in their races. They are both running on Monday, the 4th! Such FUN!
Enjoy your Holiday!
Please be safe!
With love,
Hugs to All~

Dear D. J.:
It’s so true. Some breeders say even the Bichon Frise has some poodle genes as well. I love poodles. About that video of her playing with the ball, it’s so cute, but a couple of times there, I was concerned about her little legs when she fell. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Ingrid Arnone:
You’re welcome. Looks like Shackleford is back in training and is doing well. Maybe we’ll see him in the Traverse. Hugs, J.B.

@Judy B
Thanks. Just saw Liberian Freighter in the Shoemaker Mile but
missed the pre-race. Love the way he gets to the gate.
I think he was 5 or 6 but lead most of the way

Dear Ingrid Arnone:
See, there you go, more good handicapping. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Signofthetimes:
I think Liberian Freighter needed a race after his time off. He’ll get him next time.
Little Sophie is a toy poodle. I think her grooming style is a lot like a Bichon. There are so many styles to trim a poodle. I love her full face and full coat. We don’t trim our little girl poodle too short either. Hugs, J.B.

Oops. I meant “He’ll get them next time”. Hugs, J.B.

Thanks for posting Steve’s article on Noor. Charlotte you
Are doing a wonderful thing. I sent in my donation yesterday.
I was watching the video on Sea that Abigail posted
And John Ox mentioned the Arc. What a race. Reminded
Me of Zenny and BCC 2010. Coming out of nowhere almost
Impossible position mid pack and went through to win. Horse
Of many gears like Z. Her BCC 2010 was a much more difficult
Trip but both races depict two great champions. John Ox
Also talks of pressure racing a “great”. I am sure John experienced
As much and why he sooo carefully selected each race and
Personally checked out the track. What a huge responsibility!!!!!
Hope Z gets to meet Sea sometime.

That is twice today that I have cried. Steve has such a way with words . . . I am at a loss right now to say what I feel. I know that I will be calling Steve to thank him for his kindness.
@Noor – Early this morning I had a wonderful conversation with Kathy Kimber and she suggested that I share with you the details I have planned for Noor once I get him out of the ground.
The box that will contain Noor’s remains is Birch Hardwood Plywood, not your normal plywood. The box will measure 8’ L x 4’ W x 4’ D. I am having it stained with Zar Wood Stain #130 Driftwood, which is gorgeous. It is soft and has a platinum cast to it. The final coat will be Defthane 2 Polyurethane Clear Satin.
I am having a stencil made of Howard’s Triangle H logo. We will mask off the box leaving a 17” square open towards the top. That square will be sprayed white, then the stencil will be positioned in the middle and we will then spray Howard’s red. Stencil removed and walla, the famous Triangle H. The background was always red with the triangle and the “H” in red.
I bought a nameplate with *Noor written on it. It is the same kind of nameplate that you have seen on Zenyatta’s halter. It will be placed directly under the Triangle H, being screwed in.
The box will have a metal banding that will be a soft metallic copper. The banding material will go around circumference of the box, top and bottom, to reinforce the box. There will be joists underneath for added reinforcement as I am expecting about 1-ton of material that will be Noor. The box will be lined with 12-mil plastic to insure that the remains do not fall through.
Once we have removed all that is Noor, and before the lid is screwed shut, the soil gathered from the three tracks will be spread over him.
Roxann Freitas, Henry Freitas daughter, is giving me enough of Loma Rica’s saddle cloths to cover Noor. The saddle cloths are in the ranches colors, powder blue and white with Loma Rica’s name on it. We will put as many as are needed over Noor and he will be tucked in. That way the ranch is always with him.
I have plans to place something personal that will say between me and Noor, but will be with him forever. The plastic will then be wrapped over and stapled to the top edge of the box. We will cut off the excess. The lid will then be placed on and screwed shut. From there he begins his journey.

Great link on taking control. Wow 7.7 million and stamped
By AP Indy and Azeri. He is absolutely gorgeous. Let us know
If you see him on the track.
Also, really loved that groom article, a historical perspective.
A good horse person can use the eyes, a firm hand and maybe
A little voice to get the point across. I had a friend do it with
Her TB who was balking and would not let anyone get on him or
Put a bridle on him. We had him saddled ready to get on, she looked
At him and said No!!! No !!! The behavior never occurred again
And the person got on. So very impressive to be able to communicate
So clearly with so little.
Signofthetimes
Charlotte how touching that you have put so much thought in this and
Noor will have some of his home with him.

Zenny….such lucky ladies to be able to spoend some time with you.
Charlotte Farmer….thank you for the information about Noor. I didn’t know about the John Sheriff connection to him.
I bet Zenny would approve if her fans would send a donation to Old Friends to help with Noor’s reburial. Michael Blowen is so creative when it comes to doing just the right thing for our old champions.

@Charlotte
How touching is that? Brought tears to my eyes – and yes, ‘dirt’ is important – I know from my own personal experience of getting the ‘dirt’ that Zenny walked on at Barn 55. (A story for another time.) It is so fitting, Charlotte, that so many personal items will be always with him…Bless you with Angel Kisses and Z love…From all of us in this Zennyland of our dreams…
