HAPPY 4th OF JULY!
I want to wish all of you a fantastic HOLIDAY WEEKEND and a very safe July 4th.
While many people will be off to the races, walking on the sand, and enjoying great barbeques, I’ll be here at Lane’s End having a special time as well. MY JOHN and his crew will be racing.
I’m looking forward to enjoying the sunshine, grazing on the bluegrass, and eating some of my favorite TREATS! As you can see, I’m happily awaiting a few bites from my ST. LEO’S friends in this photo. This is a visit I did to help fund-raise for a local school. I must say, the ladies were so gracious and brought ME the perfect treats!
The holiday weekend is also filled with a large number of fabulous stakes races. One in particular is of great interest to ME. On Monday, my dear, dear friend, HARMONIOUS, is running in the ROYAL HEROINE G-2 at Hollywood Park. It is one mile on the turf. This will be her first start since February when she tried the dirt at Santa Anita. Harmonious has a wonderful past performance record. She is a very accomplished turf filly by Dynaformer out of a mare named Jade Tree! I’m wishing her ALL THE BEST!
Harmonious and I spent a great deal of time together at Barn 55. We not only grazed together each morning and afternoon, but we shared MARIO as our groom. He is truly one terrific guy! As we would often be outside at the exact same time, Mario would be with ME and Frank would be with Harmonious. It worked out perfectly for everyone.
I believe this is one of the reasons why it was such a smooth transition for ME to share a paddock with other horses once I acclimated to life at Lane’s End. It was such a familiar and comfortable situation as I have literally spent years outside grazing at Barn 55 with other horses close by: Tiago, Life Is Sweet, Zardana, After Market and Harmonious to name a few. We always respected each other’s space, which is so important, and simply enjoyed sharing our time outdoors with each other. We could literally stand there and look around for hours and hours. We weren’t necessarily ‘eating anything’…we were just enjoying the time outdoors! Hmmmm, I still do that!
I’d personally like to wish HARMONIOUS and VALERIA (one of my Moss pals) GOOD LUCK in their races. They are both running on Monday, the 4th! Such FUN!
Enjoy your Holiday!
Please be safe!
With love,
Hugs to All~

Good Evening Queen “Z” Another hot day here in Los Angeles. Looking forward to having a nice relaxing day with family and friends. I must say I have been following the story of Noor closely. I was so moved by Charolotte Farmer’s post on the steps being taken to provide the transfer with utmost dignity and honor. You are a true GEM! May God Bless you and everyone involved.
Congrats to Mikey for a great ride today.
May everyone in the Z Nation and around the country celebrate our great Nation safely!
Hugs and kisses

Okay, I promise, I’m done!

Dear Mary and all Z Fans that posted about Goodbye Charlie:
This is all I could find on him. I’m afraid the mental harm done him is worse than anything physical. The article states “minor injury”. Hugs, J.B. http://www.calracing.com/drf_news.php?f=hollywood-park-48-pick-six-ticket-yields-207087-payout

@judy berube–thanks for the updates on Goodbye Charlie. I looked him up on the http://www.pedigreequery.com website, and he is a beautiful chestnut.
Dear Z–Happy 4th of July. Hope you don’t have to deal with sounds of popping fireworks in the distance, although they are beautiful. Enjoy that nutritious grass, and maybe a few selected treats!

Missed everything yesterday, I took Vic to a horse clinic, mainly dressage, so didn’t get to the computer. Am now catching up, such a lot to read.
@ Diana S The Royals will be in Los Angeles on the first day and in Santa Barbara on the second day where Will is playing polo.
@ Shari V Thinking of you and your Mum.
HAPPY JULY 4th EVERYONE.

@ Charlotte Farmer~ Beautifully said about Zenyatta’s Site & The Z Family here. This site is very important to me too, for the connection I feel & hear to Zenyatta. I throughtly enjoy reading the posts of TB horse owners & horse lovers. The care & concern shown here for one another makes Zenyatta diary so special to me. Zenyatta naturally has a special & unique power that touches each and everyone one of us that comes through in this site about Zenyatta. I want to Thank ALL of you for making Zenyatta’s Diary the wonderful place it is.
@ Sharn Voltz~ sending Hugs from Alabama. You are in my thoughts & prayers. My God give you strength to endure these days ahead.

@Barabra Grimaldi–Sometimes when you look at old shows that you loved as a kid you see them for what they really are. There used to be a cable channel here in the LA area that showed nothing but old shows. One of my favorites used to be 77 Sunset Strip. I know see how bad it really was. I don’t love it any less, though.@Marshall-I am going to have to have a serious talk with DJ as to how we are billed as an act. It is show business tradition that the straight man’s name always comes first. Abbott and Costello, Martin and Lewis, etc.@DJ-How do you want to be billed? I can’t figure out whether I am the straight man or not. Today’s joke–A man’s car stalls on a country road. When he gets out to fix it, a horse come over to his side and says “Looks like a problem with the electrical system.” Startled, the man runs down the road until he meets a farmer. He tells the farmer the story. “Was it a large white horse with a black mark over the left eye?”. Yes, the man responded. “Oh, I wouldn’t listen to her. She doesn’t know anything about cars.”

Hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th – say a prayer for all those in the military still away from home – we owe everything to those who have served and those those who are still serving – let us not forget! Started off celebrating my 4th by watching you win the 2009 BCC – still gives me chills!
@Charlotte Farmer – what you are doing for the great Noor is just incredible – just got to read your post stating the inscription for his stone – so perfect and I agree with everything you said about this site – such a comfort to so many.
@ Shari Voltz good thoughts and prayers for you and your Mom – I’m sure you feel all those positive vibes from your Z family!
Anne from Paramount, CA
@Zenyatta, our Queen (even on the 4th of July :) and @ ALL: have a wonderful holiday!!! @Charlotte Farmer: following along with you and Noor has been a fascinating journey. Thanks for taking us along with you. What history there! Steve Haskin did a great job as usual, and I love your own words, CF. Very, very touching indeed, as has been stated elsewhere here.
@JSmith: LOL at the Uncle Mo photos and also enjoyed Shackleford and his Belmont experiences. ( His getting a bath reminds me of when we saw Mine That Bird getting a bath at Santa Anita prior to Breeders’ Cup that year.) I am so glad S/ford is okay–that was one rough Triple Crown this year.
@Judy Berube and others who asked on a previous post: Hoof ray is all of ours to use, right Zenyatta? Hip hip hoof ray!!
@ ALL who provide links, thanks! It takes me a couple of times to go through to see/view them. They are really appreciated.
@Diana S and Karen Gogue: for the 9th, good idea for name tags. Karen knows where to find me (she also knows what I look like!)but in case I am not there at that particular moment, a meeting time and place is good, to get us going.
Now on to review some of the other links. P.S. I was at HPark yesterday, but will not be there today. Go Harmonious!! And, a hunch bet on One Fast Frog (6th?) since I am/was a frog collector.( Have cut back quite a bit…only so much space!) I also like to bet on “cat borses,” so hoof hoof hooray for Courageous Cat winning!
@Zenyatta: so much thanks to you and YOUR TEAM, especially Dottie. You continue to be TOO CUTE! :) :)
Anne from Paramount, CA
oops—should have said “Cat Horses.” :) !

To Mary: Back on #287, Patty Smith quoted from Mr. Brannaman that a horse was the mirror of the souls handling him. Now there is a candle lit for ‘Goodbye Charlie’ on ‘Z`s’ gratefulness space & extra concern, because all creatures great and small who have no voice and have no choice need the same interventions. People do these things because they can get away with them, because ignorance and fear and their own abuse leaves them believing they have no other choices. But Mr. Brannaman, whose own childhood could have left him hard and cruel, knew he had choices because others figured firmly and gently in his upbringing. Deploring that gatesman`s treatment of ‘Goodbye Charlie’ still means hoping the man gets attention, but loses his access to any living thing again. It does.

Dearest Sweet “Z” and little “z”,
I have a good feeling that we will be getting a new Hoofprint from you today so I will try to excercise brevity. Also, sometimes it is good to be at the bottom of the page :)

Charotte F: Your impeccable details speak of a great Love which is always rewarded. If you would like some Holy Water or Blessed Salt let me know and I can send some to you. Holy water for Noor’s beautiful resting box that you lovingly created, and the Blessed Salt for the perimeter and area around his resting site once finished. Unfortunately as you are aware, oftentimes, such good deeds, attract the opposite. If this is a consideration, my email is: darlaocds@hotmail.com

Amanda G: Thank you!

Diana S: TOO CUTE regarding the name tags for the Royal Couple at H.P. Yours is perfect :)

Dear Zenny
Have a great day!!! Enjoy the KY bluegrass treats
Friends humans and equine.
@Judy B
Thanks for finding the blog on Goodbye Charlie.
Gate jobs are difficult but communicating with a horse
In other ways gets the point across. I agree this guy needs
A job change. Getting injured is no reason to strike a
Horse.
@Z fans
Good luck Harmonious!!!!!
DJ
To TC: I have a suspicion that you are the ‘straight man’, and I can assure you that I am the ‘straight woman!’ But either way…all is good! For billing purposes, “Whose on First?” You, of course. I’ll play Second, but “Whose of Third?”
DJ
To “Marshall” – your name has been called…You decide “Whose on Third?”
DJ
F.Y.I. For those interested, or not interested..the Annual Fourth of July Coney Island Nathans Hot Dog Eating Contest is on now – ESPN. Warning, it is of the ‘Horror’ genre :)

I have always been curious and I hope some Z fan out there can answer this one. She was the bargain of the century at the sale in which she was sold to the Mosses. What was there about her which caused the bidding to stop when it did? Some so-called experts certainly have egg on their faces.
DJ
To Terry C: No expert here…but she had a bad case of ringworm and a mangy coat. Our real “Z” experts overlooked the obvious and noticed her great conformation coupled with the fact that Street Cry was known for his genteel disposition.

I opened this page this morning to merely wish America a Happy Birthday! then began to read the posts since I was here last. I’m sorry to see the posts about the person on the gate crew at Hollywood Park and to read some of the things people have written about what he said. I believe most of us know that men aren’t above talking like that in any situation, much less a stressful one. The person who was hurt has been a part of the gate crew for many years. HE IS THE REASON Goodtime Charlie HAD A MINOR INJURY! These were a bunch of babies in the gate. Some of them were rattling around in there and Goodtime Charlie reared and tried to go over backward. This dedicated member of the gate crew kept his hold on the horse, even though the horse broke through the front of the gate when he came down. This man saved both the horse and the rider from a terrible situation in which both, or either, could’ve been crippled and had broken bones. If the horse had flipped, as he was trying to do, he may have also been thrashing around and kicking the horses on either side of him, under the gate. While on the way down from rearing, the horse got the gate man’s knee, causing him to collapse on the track when he had to let go. This is a danger these men face each and every race, besides in the mornings when horses are schooled in the gate. Those of you who are hollering in protest of some words that were said know nothing about the crew or what they do, evidently. By the way, the horse was taken care of, not hurt in any way, by this wonderful crew of people…and Goodtime Charlie has no idea what any words are, of course. I know that each person has opinions, but please know something about what you’re talking about before posting something that tries to take down another person doing their job. Some of these posts were outrageous! when everyone should’ve been grateful that Goodtime Charlie was so well taken care of and didn’t turn upsidedown in the gate.
sue
First of all Happy 4th to you Zenyatta and God Bless you. The people on the gate crew attempt to keep these beloved race horses safe every race and do not get the credit they deserve for their hard work. We fail to thank them as we should.
Robin S
Happy 4th and blessings to everyone! Extra sweet treat wishes to you, Lady Z, and your dear horsey friends!

@DJ-Thanks. As good an explanation as I’ve seen.It just goes to show the crap shoot aspects of trying to purchase a top horse at a sale.
Ingrid Arnone
Dear Judy B, thank you, I work hard in my handicapping, Judy can you find out what happen to AZERI, I know the Japanese bought her? Hugs Ingrid.
