It is so hard to believe that today marks the mid-point of 2011. On my behalf, I must say, it has been an amazing 6 months. The time has really gone by very quickly. Residing in Kentucky at Lane’s End, I began the year experiencing ‘the different seasons’. I loved playing in the snow with my paddock pals and sharing so much time outdoors with them. Then to be honored as the 2010 HORSE OF THE YEAR last January was truthfully one of the biggest thrills and proudest moments of my time in racing.
Now, to be happily in foal to Bernardini as I embark upon the next phase of my career, is also very special!
As I have mentioned many times in the DIARY, I am one extremely fortunate horse.
My life has been filled with loving, happy, and positive people who have encouraged ME each step of the way. Environment is very important and influences one’s behavior on so many levels. I hope the sentiments of kindness and love I have known will have a rippling effect…and extend to others I meet in my life.
The 4th of July holiday weekend is now upon us. It represents such a great time for family and friends to get together, visit, and really kick-off the summer season.
MY TEAM and I will not be together this holiday…the first time in 5 years. I will definitely hear from them and they will touch base with ME in one way or another. They constantly keep in touch to see how I am doing!
For instance, when David comes to visit ME in the paddock or at the barn, he actually does call Dottie and John while he is standing there and spending time with ME. He lets ME hear their voices during the conversation while he is there petting ME. (He knows my favorite spots!) As you know from prior Diary Entries, MY TEAM and I actually TANGO so they can see ME on their phones. Sarah, David, and my other friends at the farm are constantly taking pictures to share with THEM and ultimately YOU! Isn’t technology grand!
MY JOHN is always taking pictures of the horses at the barn and videos for the owners to see. (We tease him now…but we are extremely grateful he has so many early photos of ME! Those photos taken during my early years could never be captured again…ever!) At the end of the day, all of this…John’s YOU-TUBES, videos, pictures of BARN 55 and photos of my poodle pal, Sophie, are simply meant TO BE FUN!
The way ALL of YOU have been so very supportive of ME is something MY TEAM and I deeply cherish! I really feel like I have so many wonderful FRIENDS and such a large extended family. THANK YOU!
Here’s wishing EACH OF YOU, YOUR FAMILIES, YOUR FRIENDS and YOUR TEAM a very healthy and happy second half of 2011! Go out and share a variety of things with them…and HAVE SOME FUN!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

@Charlotte Farmer. I should have said this before now, but Eveline’s link above to the drf underscored your tireless efforts for Noor that have also been unfolding on this website. It is an inspiring thing that you are doing for Noor. This wonderful horse deserves the respect of a peaceful resting place. Bravo to you for looking out for a great horse in his time of need.

Hi Zenyatta, all your friends and loved ones and everyone who visits this site. Happy and safe July 4th to all. Zenyatta, I never get tired telling you just how beautiful you are. The pics are wonderful and I look forward to them each day. Dotty, hopefully you will put all of these fabulous memories into a novel – which all of us will have to have. Zenyatta’s daily diaries are just too wonderful and cute. Zenyatta, have a wonderful holiday with all of your paddock friends, especially TT, eat well for two and have loads of fun. Love you, Angel in Disguise.

I love you Queen Z and hope you have a wonderful 4th of july!!

Oh how I love those ears! Our girl knows how to pose and the guys look thrilled to be in the picture with the Queen. I surely needed this new post and all the positive comments tonight – just came in from treating a sick horse. It’s so much fun getting 11 big tablets in him – twice daily!! I think he will be fine but it’s tough to take when any of them are sick or hurt so all the positive comments really helped. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and don’t forget to fly the flag! Happy 4th. (thanks Dottie and Sarah)
@Brooke you surely are lucky to have Dusty (or should I say the now famous Dusty) – a horse can absolutely be your BFF.
@Candance well said.
@Sherry Drish we’re all family here – Zenny just has a huge extended family!

Good evening Zenyatta,
a ‘Happy 4TH’ to you and all your people.
Im a bit puzzled, I’m sure I read at an earlier diary that Sophie Shirreffs is a Shih Tsu or Maltese, but definitely NOT A POODLE. So what gives, surely Dottie remembers her own dog’s breed, the Moss have 2 standard poodles but the Shirreffs do not have poodle.
Good night & sweet dreams

Happy Friday Zenny!! You have such a postive outlook you should be a motivational speaker :) Nah, you’ve got it too good where you are and you might not have time to update “your” diary as often. Wait, you do motivate your Z fans on that diary every day :)
@Susan in TN–will be emailing you for the newsletter.
@Sarah Powell (I think)–good thoughts and prayers to you and your sick fella.
@Terry Crow–LOL, had to call a friend to tell that one to.
@Karen Gogue–will emailing you soon *wink, wink*
Beautiful Zen-Dottie, thanks for taking the time to keep your fans updated and upbeat. Hope you, Miss Z, your Teams Z and BBFs have a safe and fun July 4th. Also to all Z fans, enjoy the holiday weekend.
Lotsa love to all.

To Sunny B: I believe “Cutie-Pie Sophie” is a Toy Poodle. We used to have three, and she sure looks like one! We could place bets though :)

Dear Zenny, You just continue to give so much enjoyment to all your fans. I hope you will celebrate the 4th with watermelon and pears and bananas and whatever other goodies you like best. The 4th of July is a special day for all Americans, whether they have 2 or 4 legs, because it is because we are FREE and self-ruled that we have the freedom and prosperity (despite the current economic situation) to be able to enjoy watching beautiful horses do what they love best. God bless the Mosses and all your handlers for doing the right things and enabling you to achieve your full potential, retire from racing uninjured and happy, and enjoy your new career as a Mom in such a beautiful and caring place.

Zenyatta, I think the kindness and love you have known, have had a tidal wave effect on everyone you meet, not just a ripple my dear. Just look at Jim Rome! He looks like a kid in a candy store, I have never seen him beaming like that before. He has meet 100’s of high profile athletes, he admires many, but none make him beam like you do. You are so special and bring so much joy. So much good has been done in your name, you have definitely passed on the kindness and love that all those who helped you grow, showed you. Thank you, for passing it on to me.
Talking of awards, Trott will be honoring Mike Smith & Jack Van Berg (trainer of one of my older fav’s, Alysheba) with the Inspiration Award. They will be the first annual recipients, of an award created to honor those who have inspired many others to help charitable causes. The presentation will be made on 8/28 at the Trott Fundraising event in Del Mar.
Susan in TN, you rock!
Happy 4th everyone. Don’t forget what Trina said, make sure your pets are inside, it’s noisy for them and they may bolt.

Thank you for your warm good wishes, dear Zenyatta–all of us here wish the same to you, 1000-fold. I’m sorry you will not be with family this holiday, but they will be connected to you in many ways and will keep on loving you, as all of us do! Has anyone taken a recent video of you playing in the Kentucky Blue with your friends? That would be great to see! Take very good care, precious Zenny!

Dear Z Fans:
Just found this beautiful article on Sunday Silence. Hugs, J.B. http://www.reines-de-course.com/sunday_silence.htm
Charlotte Farmer
@Terry Crow – I am honored by your complement and I love the cowboy joke having been raised in a rodeo town. Casey Tibbs, who I never met, was the biggest thing to hit our town, and from what I understood from my mother he would stay about a week, meeting with people and their children and visiting the hospitals. Now cowboys have to pack up and head to the next rodeo or miss out so there is next to no time to visit with the fans except during the rodeo.
@CYNTHA H – Yes, you did understand my post from yesterday, Quicken Tree and Lamb Chop ARE buried there at Santa Anita. You need special permission to visit since you have to cross the track to get to their graves. I appreciate the offer to help, but I have a dear friend in Arcadia who covers racing and so he would be able to get me the approval needed to pay my respects to their graves. Thank you again for your kind offer.
@MM in Wyoming – Oh, my God, Francis the Talking Mule. I promised, everyone, I won’t get back on my soapbox about the horses of yesteryear. All the four-legged ones that raced across the silver screen, television, and on the tracks are my heroes.
@DONATIONS – Spoke with Michael today. So far Old Friends has received $1,160.00. Don’t despair. I have been told, not by Michael, of some donations that Old Friends should receive by next week and if the people follow through that number should bring us, possibly, to the half-way mark.
Michael also mentioned that Jay Hovdey got ahold of him today and plans to do a piece on Noor and the need for donations. I just got home a little bit ago, so I haven’t had time to read the postings, other than I received an e-mail from Jay asking: “Can donations be made by e-mail. If so how?” I answered him back on that question.
I spoke with Paul Post today at the Saratogian, keep a watch for an article to appear hopeful by Monday. Also spoke with Matt Graf at the Lexington Herald-Leader. He said they would probably wait to run any additional articles since they published Dwyre’s article. I tried to emphasize that we could sure use the coverage as Dwyre was unable, due to L. A. Times policy, to note where and how donations could be sent. I will get back with him later in July and see if I can inspire him to do something. Another person is following up on the S.F. Examiner and Chronicle since I cannot make a dent into that place.
When I return from having dinner I hope, Terry, that you have posted a good joke. I could sure use one. Love you all. Talk with you a little later tonight.

Hi Zenny: Thank you for such a wonderful post. It’s true; we really need to appreciate our family and friends and stay in touch. That is so nice of David to telephone your John and Dottie so you can hear their voices. Text messaging is convenient, but hearing each other’s voices means so much more. Well Zenny, maybe I’ll get to see some of your CA family next weekend. I’ll be attending the Gold Cup Races. I am really looking forward to it.
Also Zenny, I am so happy to tell you I received my Zenyatta Bronze. Now a part of you, and all those wonderful and cherished memories we have of you will continue to live on in NJ. As people come to visit, I can show off my Zenyatta sculpture and tell all those folks about this great and unique racehorse from CA. I will also tell them just how lucky I am to have lived during this time to see “Zenyatta” one of the “Greatest Racehorses of our Lifetime.” You are so loved Zenny! Take care! Love, Linda

Dear Signofthetimes:
Thank you. I have seen this video many times and it always makes me glad that he enjoyed some good years running free in his retirement from racing before he contracted that dreaded laminitis. Hugs, J.B.
