It is so hard to believe that today marks the mid-point of 2011. On my behalf, I must say, it has been an amazing 6 months. The time has really gone by very quickly. Residing in Kentucky at Lane’s End, I began the year experiencing ‘the different seasons’. I loved playing in the snow with my paddock pals and sharing so much time outdoors with them. Then to be honored as the 2010 HORSE OF THE YEAR last January was truthfully one of the biggest thrills and proudest moments of my time in racing.
Now, to be happily in foal to Bernardini as I embark upon the next phase of my career, is also very special!
As I have mentioned many times in the DIARY, I am one extremely fortunate horse.
My life has been filled with loving, happy, and positive people who have encouraged ME each step of the way. Environment is very important and influences one’s behavior on so many levels. I hope the sentiments of kindness and love I have known will have a rippling effect…and extend to others I meet in my life.
The 4th of July holiday weekend is now upon us. It represents such a great time for family and friends to get together, visit, and really kick-off the summer season.
MY TEAM and I will not be together this holiday…the first time in 5 years. I will definitely hear from them and they will touch base with ME in one way or another. They constantly keep in touch to see how I am doing!
For instance, when David comes to visit ME in the paddock or at the barn, he actually does call Dottie and John while he is standing there and spending time with ME. He lets ME hear their voices during the conversation while he is there petting ME. (He knows my favorite spots!) As you know from prior Diary Entries, MY TEAM and I actually TANGO so they can see ME on their phones. Sarah, David, and my other friends at the farm are constantly taking pictures to share with THEM and ultimately YOU! Isn’t technology grand!
MY JOHN is always taking pictures of the horses at the barn and videos for the owners to see. (We tease him now…but we are extremely grateful he has so many early photos of ME! Those photos taken during my early years could never be captured again…ever!) At the end of the day, all of this…John’s YOU-TUBES, videos, pictures of BARN 55 and photos of my poodle pal, Sophie, are simply meant TO BE FUN!
The way ALL of YOU have been so very supportive of ME is something MY TEAM and I deeply cherish! I really feel like I have so many wonderful FRIENDS and such a large extended family. THANK YOU!
Here’s wishing EACH OF YOU, YOUR FAMILIES, YOUR FRIENDS and YOUR TEAM a very healthy and happy second half of 2011! Go out and share a variety of things with them…and HAVE SOME FUN!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

The true heros are those that serve, such as your son. How proud you must be – knowing that his ‘call to duty’ will forever make a difference for this country – such as those of the Maryland Brigade. Those sacrifices will never be forgot and will be forever in our hearts. God Bless The USA and your son. Thank you son….and all the other sons and daughters….

@Charlotte
What a disgrace that is for those men to be buried there under that auto body shop! How could anyone in their right minds have let that happen?! Sadly, there are probably more such silent, lonely burial resting places such as that…too many… respect should have no mindlessness such as that…too many over the ages I’m afraid. How could our country forget those first, brave heros like that and let that happen?

Dearest Zenyatta,
I hope the second half of this year is as equally wonderful for you as the first half has been. Being with loving, caring friends and family is what it’s all about. And, no doubt, you are deeply loved by all.
Here’s wishing you a happy Fourth of July weekend!
Love and hugs,
Stel

Good Morning, Zetty
now I remember your little pal Sophie Shirreffs’ breed, BICHON FRISE !!!!!!!!!
NOT A POODLE!!!!NOT A POODLE!!!!
but a BICHON FRISE !!!!but a BICHON FRISE!!!
Have a great day !!!!
Laura M
Dottie and John’s dog Sophie IS a POODLE!
Sunny Boyd
P.S.
Sophie Shirreffs was referred to in one of the previous diary entries as a Bichon Frise !!!
So which is it?
I’ve also noticed a different style of grammar in some diaries from time to time, example: the difference of ‘Sthg/sby & I as to, me & sthg/sby and the way Zenyatta’s owners were being addressed, example from ‘my Mom’ as to Mrs. Moss/Ann Moss’.
Since it’s always Zenyatta/Dottie talking in her diaries, she wouldn’t change her personal style of communicating.
Could it be, not all entries are written by Dottie?
Laura M
You can call Sophie Shirreffs whatever breed you choose Sunny Boyd. However, she has always been a Toy Poodle. Dottie knows what her own dog is!
Amy C.
Sophie has never been referred to as any breed but a Poodle because she is a Poodle! There is no Diary that states otherwise. I am sorry, but you are incorrect in your assumption. Those of us here that have owned Poodles know that she is one also. I have a Toy Poodle and used to have a Tea Cup. She is a Toy Poodle at 10 lbs.

@Sunny Boyd

You did not do this in your last two posts

Lady Z–just reading what your diary has become overwhelms me.
You are as special as they come, and the diary entries here bear witness to that in ways I’m sure you and Dottie & the rest of your human family could never have imagined.
Dawn–the nobility and selflessness of a horse is something more humans need to aspire to…there is in a horse the instinctual but yet profound ability to reach deep within itself for that last measure of strength, power, and devotion to the task at hand that amazes and inspires me, more than any other creature on God’s earth.
Charlotte–best wishes with moving Noor, I will donate when I can.

@Kathy thank you :)
@ Terry we discovered the deaths of Adams and Jefferson when the children did reports. Pretty amazing.
@ I wish I could be at HP for the Moss’s Pincay Award. CONGRATULATIONS to Mr. and Mrs. Moss.
@Signofthetimes Thank you for the video on Big Red. I love him so.
JSmith Love that Mo. GO MO Go !!!
@ I will email my senators and I will make a donation for the Great Noor. He was an Awesome horse.
@ Dawn please come talk to my social studies classes. Your post was beautiful. When you are in my social studies class you learn all about some of history’s famous horses. All of my students know who Brown Beauty was. I was never taught that. But just think if Paul Revere had to walk to warn that the British were coming the town would have never known. Also Brown Beauty was such a well bred horse that the Britsh kept her. She was never returned to her owner. They knew a good horse when they saw one :)
@ Happy 4th of July !!!!

Oh boy, I wasn’t expecting another post until after the 4th. Nice Saturday morning surprise.
@DJ. Regarding your post from #287 and the colt wrapped with blankets. Don’t forget that Believers know how it all ends: I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. (Rev 19:11). On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: King of Kings and Lord or Lords (Rev 19:16)
The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. (Rev 19:14)
I don’t think most Believers understand that the army referred to in Rev 19:14 is the army of Believers. Those of us redeemed will be riding horses! What more proof do we need that there will be animals in heaven?

@DJ: Meant to say your post from #286
DJ
To Especially Horses: How appropriate is your title now?! Thank you for the edifying comment. Blessed are you! Have a beautiful Today.

Zenyatta! Happy Holidays…I know what it must be like for you not to be with your family this holiday, but in a positive way, just think of how special you will make it for your LE friends.!!!
Happy 4th of July with love
Roberta Smith
Hello Pretty Girl! The Moss’ are the best as are all your Team….Sophie is so very cute too…my niece’s name is Sophie..a beautiful name! I love you Zenyatta!
Nancy/Ca.
Another diary entry I’d swear the Queen wrote herself! :) Ah yes,Jim Rome,an awesome sports dude who appreciated Zenyatta and defended her! He sure made up for that @#!$ idiot Andy Beyer! Pfftt. (I’ll tell you a secret dear Zenyatta,I was one of your fans that booed him in the paddock when he had the nerve to show up here after writing something really dumb about you! It felt real good! lol)
Melissa
You are looking great Z, glad to hear you are doing so well.
Sunny Boyd
@ Theresa(KY)
Smilie faces are a mood thing, my grammar never changes.
and I distinctly remember in an earlier post with Sophie’s breed being the subject of discussion, and in a later entry her breed was disclosed as a Bichon Frise. Actually in parentheses.
And she looks it, too. Her fur is really growing straight out, you would not have that with a poodle. Does that answer your question, Theresa?
Paul
Zenyatta, I am very glad that you are doing so well and yes, you are a very fortunate horse. You are SO right about time really flying by. I can’t believe it myself that the year 2011 is already half over. Last Christmas seems like yesterday. You did experience the seasons at Lane’s End Farm and you find something good about every season. Also, you are in foal. You are absolutely right about the environment influencing a person or an animal. Happy 4th of July weekend. It’s nice that you and your human buddies keep in contact even if you can’t be together physically.
Judy
Hi Zenny, Thank you for all of your wonderful pictures and comments. It’s no wonder you have so many friends. You are a wonderful friend to us.
I’ve learned so much about horses, breeding and racing. It a great education. I wish I could see you in person and snuggle with you. You are so amazing. Love, Judy
