Hello Everyone,
I have been one very busy girl of late. In addition to my normal activities each day at the farm, I have recently hosted a few visitors. Last Friday, Jim Rome, who nationally hosts several sports talk programs on radio and television, happened to be in Lexington on business. One of his stops was at Lane’s End Farm.
The cute part is that he asked if he could visit ME!
While we were spending a bit of time together, Jim ‘tweeted’ to his fans…”I’m here, kicking it with THE QUEEN.”
I must say, Jim was also very, very kind in his comments about ME. He is a great fan of racing and is a big supporter of our sport! When someone commented that I was the 2010 HORSE OF THE YEAR….he quickly responded that in his mind I was HOTY more than just one year.
What a guy! I am extremely flattered! (Blush, Blush!)
It is truly a great feeling in life when you hear that your hard work and efforts are respected, appreciated, and recognized by others. His kind words really made ME feel so proud and very special!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

I didn’t get to see Secretariat so you are my Horse of a Lifetime!!! I can’t imagine ever getting as excited about a horse or loving another horse as much as I love you. You are so special.

You look terrific Z!!!! Jim Rome is one lucky guy!! I have not had the opportunity to meet you in person but sure hope to some day if/when the time is right. Next to the birth of my daughter, it would be THE BEST day of my life!! Blessings to you and your family members — you all are gifts from heaven. Thank you so very much!!!!

Hi Zenny, Glad to see you had a visitor and I can say that Jim Rome knows his stuff. He reconized you as the Queen and also mentioned that you were HOTY more than once. I do like to hear that kind of talk. I feel so good about his visit to you and I want to thank him for asking to see you. That was really very good of him. You have to see how many fans(friends) you have all over that will never forget your greatness and loveing personality. You earned it and you you got it and you will forever keep it. Love you so much my sweet Queen Zenyatta.

@Kim S.

Good evening Queen Z, what a great photo of you and Jim Rome. What a lucky guy! Sorry to hear of Animal Kingdom’s injury. Wishing him all the best. Good news about Uncle Mo hope to see him on the racetrack real soon. I see Mike will be riding Amazombie on Saturday. Good luck and have a safe trip.
Watched a good documentary. On TVG called Last Train to Bay Meadows. Worth watching. It is all about Bay Meadows . Unfortunate it is now closed sitting abandoned. I certainly hope this is not going. To be Hollywood Park. The home of our QUEEN.
Good night sweet one.
Hugs and kisses

@Brenda—Auctioning off all the saddle cloths from a premier race to fundraise for TB retirement homes—what a great idea! Kudos to Canada and the Queen’s Plate. Can you please e-mail me at trinambn@yahoo.com?
Heidi K

@Lil in KY—I’m so sorry for the setbacks that you and your sons have experienced recently and that you have to have surgery too. I hope it goes well and that soon all of you will be back on “the” track, so to speak. When will you visit Old Friends? That’s certainly something to look forward to. Say hi for all of us, OK?
@Kari Bussell—Your “Zenyatta—Miracles/Power Theme” is indeed a masterpiece. And HOW SPECIAL it is to know that you did it THAT VERY NIGHT following the HOTY 2010 award show! Bravo!
@Terry Crow—Great jokes, and I’m glad for that tip you gave to Barbara Wood about the Bill Shoemaker mysteries. I’d never heard of them. I’ll look on the Internet for copies.
@Judy Berube—Love your jokes, too.
@Cynthia H—I think you FOUND beautiful words to express the magnificence of Z and the impact of being in her presence!
@NICHOLAS NEWMAN— Thanks so much for the link to the Old Friends video of Creator and the highly amusing banter with the top five reasons why Michael’s wife prefers Creator to him! I learned that Creator has a taste for pears, just like Z.
@Everybody—Don’t miss the anecdote at the end of the Creator video about what happened when poor Michael tried to get a bite of a pear for himself!
@KIM S—That’s great that you are sponsoring William and that your daughter will be taking riding lessons at Equestrian Inc. Susan in TN has been busy writing the newsletter for River Edge Farm Horse Rescue, but she has promised us a longer post soon. BTW, Susan can send you the newsletter via e-mail. Contact e-mail: riveredgefarmhorserescue@gmail.com
@AJ from CA-—Thanks for the link to Jim Rome on Zenyatta.
@Sarah Powell—How cute, as Librarian pointed out: a Briar among the Roses!
@Charlotte Farmer–Are you going to contact Steve Haskin, as Diana S. suggested? As for the soil from Golden Gate Fields, I think I might be able to get someone, if no one else volunteers. A friend of mine has a daughter in San Francisco.
Trina Nagele
@Amanda Gilliland–Would you be so kind as to e-mail me at trinambn@yahoo.com?

Wow! Happy Thursday. The weekend is looming. It is going to be beastly hot here. Before we get to far I wish everyone and happy and safe 4th of July. For those of you hitting the road early. Take care and come back safe. We will be staying home doing catch up things and maybe reading a book. And of course grilling out. Doing a few fire works. With all its flaws and warts and they are there it is wonderful to be able to live in this beautiful country of ours. Say one for our men and women serving in the military who make it so. Zeny I hope you have a great weekend. You are so beautiful. Enjoy your gal pals. Hugs

@Shari V, thank you, I did not know that I introuced you to Uncle Mo, my Baby Boy. I love the posts your children made about wanting Uncle Mo and Zenyatta to get married…it was TOO CUTE. They seemed okay when they found out that Mo was in love with Maria. Just Too Cute. Todd is Mo’s trainer, and alot more great horses that you probably know very well.

Since we have a candle room for our family, I thought that we could also include us humans that are having difficulties in the Candle Room. I have started LilKY, I am a firm believer in candle lighting for all walks of life. Hope you can make it in.

Ms Zenyatta, top of the morning to you and baby. Have a wonderful day, cannot wait until after lunch when I see your latest post. I love you, Big Girl…Lisa g

@Max, @Signofthetimes, and @Zenyen, you might be entertained by this blog post. Unfortunately, the forum discussion it links to is gone but the article and pictures are still interesting. Look at Hastings’ ears.

There’s a particular YouTube video that I love. It features a segment of George Michael’s Sports Machine from the ‘80s visiting Calumet and Claiborne, set to “Run for the Roses.” There is a shot of Mr. Prospector in his paddock, protecting his territory by lunging at the cameraman.
Re: Liberian Freighter, I watched him race a few weeks back at SA. It must have taken them 10 minutes to get him into the gate. He was all over the place. But he was all business once the gates opened.

@Kim S, I envy your daughter going to riding camp. :-)

@Signofthetimes, funny you should ask. Up until a couple of days ago I was a part-owner of a TB. He has been sold, and I am bummed. He has been having trouble with a displaced palate that affects his ability to run. There is a surgery that sometimes works (~30%). Our managing partner decided that it wasn’t worth the risk and expense, so the horse was sold. The new owners had the surgery done Monday or Tuesday. I hope it works. Otherwise he won’t have much of a racing career. I asked managing partner to please let the new owners know that I will bail him out if he is ever in trouble. Now I am trying to decide if I want to find a new partnership. This one was disappointing. It’s nobody’s fault—it’s just that I never got to see my boy in person. I don’t think anyone expected he would end up at Charles Town.

Lady Z–you have done more for the sport of horse racing than any horse since Secretariat…why shouldn’t people know you and love you? The sport dearly needs a hero…and you supplied that, in spades!

Dear Z friends: I have been “out of the loop” for several days, so I wanted to read all the posts before I wrote anything. Wow-so many great and informative messages, links, jokes, people sharing sadness, joy, plans for trips and, of course, expressions of love and admiration for our beautiful Zenyatta and her wonderful team. I enjoyed each and every one and have missed you all! I wish I could respond to each of you personally but you will be glad to know that I won’t attempt that :)
@AMANDA G: I was shocked when I read about the radiologist and Kathy’s x-ray report. Kathy, Ele, Charles and YOU have been in my prayers and will continue to be.
@KARI B: wow-and your experience with the “missed biopsy”-and THEY were going to sue YOU?!? I am sorry that you are having to move and having problems with the ins. company. I was so touched that you were going to give your grandfather’s piano to a Z friend. I am so happy that it found a home in a church-what a great solution! I also wanted to tell you that I finally watched some of your videos on Youtube-WOW- they are INCREDIBLE!! What a talent you have, Kari- to be able to express your passion with a medium that so many can enjoy!
@LIBRARIAN: So sorry to hear about the recent loss of your mother.I’m glad that you and Shari V have connected-a small world!
@LIL from Kentucky: My thoughts and prayers are with you and your sons. A speedy recovery to ALL of you <3
@HELEN(MICHIGAN): Your son's poem is beautiful <3
@SUNNY BOYD: I'm pretty sure you posted "Wish me luck"-so whatever that is about, I wish you lots of luck!
@KATHY B: Belated happy birthday! How fun to spend it at HP!
@INGRID in MA:How sweet that your students gave you a replacement Z hat! Says a lot about your relationship with them!
@TERRY CROW and JUDY B:Loving the jokes-when do you take it on the road?!? I have literally LOL'd :)
Nancy
More well deserved comments!

@KATHY KIMBER and CHARLOTTE FARMER and all who have asked about Lou before: There is definitely some nerve function returning on the right side of his face and his head tilt is not as pronounced-so PROGRESS!! My daughter says he feels good and hopefully this will continue to gradually go away.My husband had Bell’s palsy once and this reminds me a lot of that.THANK YOU for caring-I believe all the warm wishes, prayers, etc.helped him-they definitely helped Beth and me <3
@CHARLOTTE FARMER: I love that you have worked so passionately for the great NOOR and you were also a big Mr. Ed fan! I loved Mr. Ed-still do :) Also, I enjoyed your discussion of Fair Play. One of our horse's great-grandfather was War Admiral which, of course, takes him back to Fair Play.
@BARBARA WOOD: I was excited to hear that a fellow Z lover is in Nashville! Don't worry that you haven't had the time to get out to River Edge. There are days I haven't found the time to drive to Dickson for something-and it's 6-7 miles away! If you ever want to come out, I would love to show you around.
@DAWN C:The rescue itself is about 65 miles WSW of Nashville.45 miles of that is on I-40.Thank you for your kind comments about my rescue work and sharing pictures with Shari V and Sharon Call. Also,I loved your story about losing the earring and you and your friend trying to retrieve it! Being "Lucy and Ethel" is a state of mind!
@SUE NOEL:Thank you for emailing River Edge! Yes,if I'm not mistaken, most if not all of the names and votes for the new foal have come from Zenyatta's wonderful fan family. It is overwhelming to me. <3
@JUDY B,TRINA N,J SMITH: THANK YOU for mentioning the rescue and contest numerous times and for your comments about the newsletter and photos, etc. You bring tears of gratitude to my eyes.
@J SMITH:You are right-River Edge is a nice place and when you said "good for me for volunteering there", you are more right than you know! It IS good for ME-it is so rewarding and just fills me with happiness.
@KIM S:How exciting that you are sponsoring William! I don't know if you saw my other post to you some days ago, but I looked at their website and it looks like a great place and William is so handsome!I hope your daughter enjoys her riding lessons.I would love to hear about some of your experiences.
