Hello Everyone,
I have been one very busy girl of late. In addition to my normal activities each day at the farm, I have recently hosted a few visitors. Last Friday, Jim Rome, who nationally hosts several sports talk programs on radio and television, happened to be in Lexington on business. One of his stops was at Lane’s End Farm.
The cute part is that he asked if he could visit ME!
While we were spending a bit of time together, Jim ‘tweeted’ to his fans…”I’m here, kicking it with THE QUEEN.”
I must say, Jim was also very, very kind in his comments about ME. He is a great fan of racing and is a big supporter of our sport! When someone commented that I was the 2010 HORSE OF THE YEAR….he quickly responded that in his mind I was HOTY more than just one year.
What a guy! I am extremely flattered! (Blush, Blush!)
It is truly a great feeling in life when you hear that your hard work and efforts are respected, appreciated, and recognized by others. His kind words really made ME feel so proud and very special!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Great photo, Zenny. Love the head up-ears pricked!!! You are one beautiful girl.
@ Kari: That was a GREAT video & I can sure see why it’s your favourite. Thanks for sharing & sending you warmest hugs.
@ Dawn: Thank you so much for these lovely thoughts, Dawn. I will treasure them! That video of Zenny is probably my favourite — although that’s a tough call — but it’s just drenched with love. The power of watching Zen realize that she’s off-lead and that happy whinny always makes me cry, too!
@ Kimberly: Glad you’re enjoying THE VAULT. I just love writing it and am always so pleased that readers enjoy it! Part 3 on Rachel, Rags & Zenny will be posted soon. Let me know what you think.
@ Shari: Well, our postal strike has ended up here but as you’re on holiday in Kentucky soon and given the mail back-up because of the strike, I’ll post the book off to you in August. Does that seem a good idea?
Night-night to everyone & sweet dreams, beautiful girl.

@kari – dang you! I am sitting in my office chair bawling my eyes out! I was just gonna take a peek before leaving, oh yeah, sure. Holy cow, girl, how DO you DO THIS??? Absolutely incredible!!! Your Grandpa is smiling. He must know you’ve been touched with his creative GIFT. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing this.

Beautiful Zenyatta, just received my Nina Kaiser sculpture of you, #49. Nothing could be better but you in person or horse-son :) What a regal pose from the Queen with Jim Rome.
@Dawn and Shari–getting more excited for you two and your trip.
@Kari Bussell–so glad to hear about the “home” for your beloved piano.
@Charlotte Farmer–keep u$ po$ted on the need$ for Noor’$ move :) Willing to help when we can.
@Terry Crow–keep ’em coming, having flashbacks from these great jokes.
@DJ–haven’t received the card yet, let’s give it another day or 2.
@Susan in TN–Haven’t seen anything from you lately, unless I’ve missed it by skimming again. I have been going to the horse rescue more days than I planned so my time is limited in the evening for the diary. I have sponsored William at Equestrian Inc (equestrianinc.com) and my daughter is thrilled to call him her “own”. Also talked her into taking riding lessons at the rescue and she is going to a week long camp there this week as well.
Zenny, think of you when I’m out at the rescue and hoping I help do what I can to make these wonderful equine angels lives a little better. Especially thought of you today when one of the racers boarded there kept trying to nibble on the gloves I wear to empty water buckets. I had put them in my back pocket as I was filling his water buckets. He decided to reach over and grab one and tried to play keep away. I could only laugh and think of you and your hat games with John and Mario.
Love you special girl, sleep tight.
Everyone have a great end of the week.
Lotsa love to all.

LauraJ. I enjoyed your discussion of Hastings. I love that horse.

Dear Zenny,
Love the photo and such a lucky, Mr. Rome. We are sooo lucky to have this blog to keep up with all of your “business” and charity
meetings. Thanks Dottie for all you do for us. Hope you have a great evening/night Zenny. Sweet dreams !!!!!
@Judy B
Thanks for posting that Dancing video of Z’s. It reminds me of
Mike saying. “I am supposed to get on and sit there quietly while she does her dancing” (those were zennys orders to Mike; communicated in horse language of course but they do
communicate quite directly when they want something.
Too bad about AK. So glad that Team Valor is going to let him race at 4 and maybe 5. Beginning a stud career after those years seems thoroughly adequate. It would be awesome if he could win the Dubai World Cup.

To Kim S: It was mailed before the weekend, with a letter, so may indeed take another day. I will send another out tomorrow, without letter! Just in Case :) God Bless you and your Patience!

Dear Queen, you look beautiful! Your Regal, Royal self, holding court with the boys:) lucky guys.
Sad news about Animal Kingdom. It’s been a very sad year for many of the 3 year olds. Just take a look at the list of contenders for the Derby back in Feb. 2011, so many have been hurt. Praying they all heal well and have full and healthy lives going forward.
So thankful that your team did not rush you, and took care each step of the way. <3

@Terry Crow–thanks for the heads up about Shoemaker. I’ll check it out.
@Karen G.–I tried to send you “something” (you-know-what) by e-mail, but it’s stuck in my outbox. Will try again tomorrow.

Horse of the year is nothing…..Zenyatta is horse of the century. I miss watching her run!!!!

@ Laura J
So true about ill tempered stallions and mares. They are worth their weight in gold not matter when they are champions.
How cute carry a broomstick !!!! I am kind of dense, you
do own a racing stable or a few racing thoroughbreds correct?
Really love all of your great information about racing, horses, training etc….

Hi Zenny: Once again you look terrific. You are getting a lot of visitors. That’s good. Someone asked the other night about PQ. Do you still share a paddock with her. I hope so because she was your first friend at LE.
@Kari: As Lisa g said: Thank you for the tears. Your video is beautiful. What a beautiful tribute to our Queen.
@judy berube: Thanks for posting the dancing video.

A quick good night Zenyatta, and a few comments before I hit the sack, at my age I need all the beauty sleep I can get.
@Shari V. In some ways, I think the folks on this site understand me better than my own family, who have never understood my love of horses. I really think they thought I would outgrow my “horse crazy” phase at some point, but now that I am in my sixth decade of life, they have given up all hope. No problem with the travel plans. Sometimes you just want to get to where you’re going without a stop. I will be in Weirton in August to deal with my mom’s will, so I’ll call you then.
@Sarah Powell, I love that you have a Briar among all of those Roses. The more I read this diary, I realize there are many retired educators here, and I admire the fact that you spent 30 years in Special Education. I just retired on June 10th, after 38 years in education, 4 as a Soc. Stu., teacher and 34 as a high school librarian. And like yourself, I would like to get involved with horses through therapeutic riding or resues.

Google John Henry and you will read a very interesting story about him and how many trainers it took to bring him out and
how many owners. It is a wonderful story because in the end he is of course a champion.
Horses area a lot of work to keep mentally sound and there are those that just are mean and that is that. Just like people, not everyone is a nice person.

I must be getting tired,
typo alert : rescues.

Adding to your list Hastings grandson, Display was also a terror. Nasrullah was also known for his ‘quirks’ to put it kindly.
