Hello Everyone,
I have been one very busy girl of late. In addition to my normal activities each day at the farm, I have recently hosted a few visitors. Last Friday, Jim Rome, who nationally hosts several sports talk programs on radio and television, happened to be in Lexington on business. One of his stops was at Lane’s End Farm.
The cute part is that he asked if he could visit ME!
While we were spending a bit of time together, Jim ‘tweeted’ to his fans…”I’m here, kicking it with THE QUEEN.”
I must say, Jim was also very, very kind in his comments about ME. He is a great fan of racing and is a big supporter of our sport! When someone commented that I was the 2010 HORSE OF THE YEAR….he quickly responded that in his mind I was HOTY more than just one year.
What a guy! I am extremely flattered! (Blush, Blush!)
It is truly a great feeling in life when you hear that your hard work and efforts are respected, appreciated, and recognized by others. His kind words really made ME feel so proud and very special!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Dear Zenyatta Good afternoon or early evening. You WOW all the guys. Your one special lady. I can’t imagine anyone not falling in love with you. The ABBA video of you dancing was one the children played over and over in school. They were amazed how you moved while all the other horses were just walking or trotting. I just get blown away with your dancing :) Well sweet lady have a great night with sweet dreams. I am going to walk my dogs. They are giving me looks like when mom? I love you Zenny very much. Hugs and Kisses, Shari XXXOOO
@ Librarian thank you for the invite but not sure when we will be on the road. Larry has to work all day and we will leave after he comes home and rests. Maybe the next visit :)
@ J Smith I will call Diane and see about a picture. What about a picture of Brooke’s Dusty. She is a rescued racehorse. I will be taking pictures of her tomorrow. Let me know Titus8@yahoo.com
@ Dawn you are AMAZING with your eloquent writing. I am fine sweet lady and got the nerve to email. You know. Well we will see :)
@ Lisa G I also love Mo. He has a great owner that sent treats and hats to my class. He looks wonderful. GO MO GO !!!!!

Dear Kari Bussell:
OMG, you did it again. That powerful music absolutely suits her. Beautiful photos and beautifully put together. Loved it. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Judy – thanks for asking – all 3 of the “Rose’s” are fine. I didn’t tell you the other day but I also have a big gelding named Briar. LOL (among others – but that is all of the Rose related ones.) He is a real character – bows, unzips my jacket and sticks his nose in for treats in the inside pocket, follows me around.
I didn’t name any of them. They all came to me already tagged. As you can tell, I love my babies!! Hugs to you.

Kari! Absolutely wonderful collage and music telling Zenyatta’s story! She is the Queen of our Hearts.

@Charlotte Farmer–Jim Rome was one of the persons I considered contacting about Noor. Bill Dwyre has expressed surprise about the fund raising thus far. I will suggest to him that perhaps he could contact Jim Rome. @Kari Bussell, Judy Berube, Lisa G Kathy Kimber and Barbara Wood-Glad you are enjoying the jokes. Here is a short one–Where do most Mormon horses live?-Salt Lick City. @Cynthia H-John Shear is indeed a hero, did something that few others would have done. The news organizations seem to have forgot about him but I haven’t. @DJ-Will work the after 55 into the joke. Great cash, indeed. The Hollywood episodes with Richard Widmark and John Wayne were also good.@ Sharon call-completely agree.

Zenny, You love visitors? So… how about a contest to meet a few folks from this diary? I would LOVE to see you up close and put a kiss on that soft nose of yours. You are gorgeous in every picture. Jim Rome is so very lucky to get the chance to even touch you. Thanks to Sarah for another awesome photo. A high hoof to Dottie, too, for keeping this site updated on a daily basis.

Sure wish I was Jim Rome…just seeing you up close would be a special time to remember.

Dear Sarah Powell:
Briar sounds like quite a character. Did you rescue all of them? Were any of them former racers? Hope you don’t mind my asking questions. Would love to know more about them. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Terry Crow:
Got one for you: Some horses are so polite that when they come to a fence, they stop and let you go over first. Hugs, J.B.

Let’s GROOVE Z CLONES! Romey, I listen to you when I can, missed that one on our Queen! Lucky Clone you!

Dear Sharon Call:
Did you read the article I linked on Animal Kingdom’s injury? I didn’t like the ending. Made it sound like MMM bumped into AK on his own. Never mentioned he was pushed into him by Jockey Maragh’s negligent ride on Isn’t He Perfect. Hugs, J.B.

@Barbara Wood–Bill Shoemaker also wrote three Dick Francis type books. You might check them out for fun. @Librarian-Those betting machines are the most aggravating things ever invented. Plus, some good people lost their jobs as a result.@-Cynthia H-Look forward to seeing you at Santa Anita.@DJ-Amen? I thought you wanted me to continue.

You look so beautiful in that picture, Zenny. You really do look regal like a queen. I’ve noticed that you always seem to be surrounded by cute guys. Is Bernie jealous? Jim Rome is so lucky. And he was right. You were HOTY more than one year. You are the Horse of a Lifetime. I love you, Zenny! :-)
@Kari Bussell – Thanks so much for the Zenyatta videos. The Dancing Queen video is my favorite and I love your other one as well. It’s hard to watch them without getting teary-eyed, but they’re happy tears. Thank you Kari!!! :-)

Dear Judy (Maass) Garwood:
Thanks for the info on the Moss’ and Dear John’s entries tomorrow at HP. Hugs, J.B.

Zenny, I have looked again at today’s photo of YOU and the best adjective I can come up with for how you look is MAGNIFICENT. Your ears are perky and you seem so calm and contented with your life at Lane’s End. I too, like everyone else, long to see you but as Sharon said your health, and that of your foal is all important. I have tried to make an appointment to visit Rachel A on our visit to Lexington but Stonestreet allows very few visits and they specify the date and limit the number of visitors. I have also thought about people like Victoria and myself who travel to Lexington and then troop around from farm to farm, enjoying ourselves tremendously, but who knows what dreadful germs we may be carrying with us. We have to be grateful that the farms open their doors and allow us to visit with the very expensive horses in the stallion division.
@Shari V I wish you were not leaving KY on the day that we arrive – it would have been amazing to meet you. Enjoy your dinner with Dawn and have a safe trip.
@Dawn C It really is only three weeks until our visit to LE. Drive safely.

@Terry Crow – I am laughing and smiling about your post from yesterday about Trigger. Robin Hood was filmed in Bidwell Park in Chico, CA. It is like this areas claim to fame other than Clint Eastwood living here in Shasta County. I remember the first time I learned that Roy had purchased “Golden Cloud” aka Trigger and the rest, as they say, is history.
As I said yesterday, I was so fickled back then, cowboys and their horses, but I must say my all-time favorite was the beautiful KoKo, owned by Rex Allen, the chocolate chestnut with the flaxen mane and tail, part Morgan and Quarter Horse. It was his hope to breed another KoKo but he was never successful in getting that color.
My last crush was Bamboo Harvester aka Mister Ed and I can’t resist the song:
>”Hello, I’m Mister Ed
>A horse is a horse, of course of course, and no one can talk to a horse of course, that is of course, unless the horse, Is the famous Mister Ed!
>Go right to the source and ask the horse. He’ll give you the answer that you’ll endorse. He’s always on a steady course. Talk to Mister Ed.
>People yak-it-ti-yak a streak and waste your time of day, but Mister Ed will never speak, unless he has something to say…
>A horse is a horse, of course of course, And this one will talk ’til his voice is hoarse. You never heard of a talking horse? Well, listen to this…
I am Mister Ed”
>>I bought Alan Young’s book, “Mister Ed and Me and More! It is a terrific book. Okay, I will get off my Horses of Yesteryear Soapbox. Sorry everyone!
Zenyen
@Kurt and Sharon Call,
First, WELL PUT Sharon! That is exactly many of the concerns with throwing the doors open at Lanes End for Zenyatta. She is not the only horse there.
Second [and I know this will be unpopular] the more I read about the money being made on auctions for visits to Zenyatta and the hard work done in her name for many VERY DESERVING charities I’d like to see them continue to only offer small [4-6 people] visit packages for charity only auctions.
Charlotte Farmer
@Zenyatta – Oh, my goodness, look at that regal pose. What a lady, and again surround by men. Wow! I love it, “ . . . kicking it with THE QUEEN.” Oh, my God, this is just the best Zen, “Hoty” and you are!
Cynthia H.
@Sharon Call: I agree with all you said regarding public visitation rights of Zenny. Although it was a different situation and time, that is what makes John Shirreffs’ barn all the more extraordinary for their remarkable generosity to the fans, especially during the final weeks of the Queen’s tenure. He threw open the barn doors wide, allowing each of us access who wished an individual moment with Zenyatta. Such largesse is rare, and is a reflection of the innate goodnes of those who surrounded Zenyatta. To stand in her light is to walk away forever changed. To have experienced her luminous presence and the fathomless kindness of her spirit was a gift. For many of us, it was the highlight of our racing “careers,” even our lives. How does one say “thank you” for something so immeasureably priceless? Where are there words?

Dearest Sweet “Z”,
With all due respects, Y.O.U. are a H.O.G.!! Yes, that is right! You cannot lose a race and take them all…without Blame. So we will just say that you are without a doubt “A Horse of God!” It is not exactly a lovely title, but there are worse things…

@Shari V, O I know you love Baby Boy, I see you on his website alot. I think it is wonderful that Mike and MO’s team did all that for your students…I think more and more owners are trying to do it the John/Dottie/Ann/Jerry way…they see the wonderful results. I like Mike R, will not say anything about Todd, but I really do like Mike R.

Sharon Call—–Ditto on everything you told Kurt about visiting Zenyatta!I certainly hope he understands after your detailed explanation, that we would not want to carry germs & viruses & risk something tragic happening to our Queen & her precious foal!
