Hello Everyone,
I have been one very busy girl of late. In addition to my normal activities each day at the farm, I have recently hosted a few visitors. Last Friday, Jim Rome, who nationally hosts several sports talk programs on radio and television, happened to be in Lexington on business. One of his stops was at Lane’s End Farm.
The cute part is that he asked if he could visit ME!
While we were spending a bit of time together, Jim ‘tweeted’ to his fans…”I’m here, kicking it with THE QUEEN.”
I must say, Jim was also very, very kind in his comments about ME. He is a great fan of racing and is a big supporter of our sport! When someone commented that I was the 2010 HORSE OF THE YEAR….he quickly responded that in his mind I was HOTY more than just one year.
What a guy! I am extremely flattered! (Blush, Blush!)
It is truly a great feeling in life when you hear that your hard work and efforts are respected, appreciated, and recognized by others. His kind words really made ME feel so proud and very special!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Just got a Bloodhorse Alert saying that Animal Kingdom is out for the whole year. Another x-ray showed a fracture so he will undergo surgery. I’m sure sick of these great horses getting hurt, so many who started at the beginning of the year are out because of injury. Too Sad.
Vicki
Zen – not to take anything away from Curlin or Rachel, I love them both…but you know you REALLY were HOTY three years running…they just finally got it right

Dear Vivki:
I so agree with you.
Dear Sue Fredrick:
When hearing another horse is injured, doesn’t it make Z’s racing record even more phenomenal. She was extremely talented, sound and had the best Team in the business; but most of all, lucky not to be involved in any incidents that could have resulted in injury. I hope that wonderful colt, Animal Kingdom, and all the other injured horses recover to race again. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Zenyatta, What a wonderful photo, with you nose to nose with Matt and Jim Rome smiling like the Cheshire cat. Sarah sure has a gift with a camera. Thanks for sharing the photos with us. I watch Jim’s show every now and again, but I didn’t realize he has horses. Nice to know he is aware of how lucky he is to be photographed with YOU.
@Shari Voltz, when you are on the way to Lexington, do you go through Columbus ? I live about a mile off of I-70 on the west side of town, and would love to have you stop for a “stretch-your-legs” break, and an iced-tea when you and your husband are headed to KY.
@Dawn Conrad, One of my favorite places to eat in Lexington is an Irish pub called Lynagh’s on Woodland Ave. near UK. It is very casual and they have the best burgers in the city. I also like DeSha’s, in the middle of downtown Lexington. They make a very good KY Hot Brown, a favorite local dish.
Of course there are lots of horse things to do in Lexington, but if you like history, you can visit the Mary Todd Lincoln House, which is downtown, very close to Rupp Arena, or venture out Richmond Road to see the Henry Clay estate, Ashland. Both places have tours that are given by very knowledgeable guides.

@Sue, this is sad. It is heartbreaking about AK and AAA, and this going on with Life at Ten, I don’t know, just do not know. I do thank God that Zenyatta escaped all of this and I do believe it is from her being so healthy..why? John and is wonderful training ways…John,Dottie, Ann and Jerry’s tremendous love..and Mikey’s love and carefulness.

Your heigth really shows in this picture, Beautiful! I really hope you pass this on to your baby!

Zenyatta is Horse Of The Year even when she’s NOT racing. Rock on, Big Mama Z! XOXO

Zen….ANYONE forunate enough to be offered to visit you on Lane’s End…it really would be like visiting “The Queen!”
What an incredible opportunity and he looks like his smile could not get any bigger.
@Janie…Yes, I don’t think that it is coincidence that all of the attractive lads are accompanying our girl! Nothing but the best all around…she deserves it for sure and HOTY Forever!
Stay well sweet one…and again, congrats to Zazu….maybe there is something to the “Z” factor!
Any updates on “Ebbie”? I am sure she is doing great.
XOXO

Love the way you pose for the camera and us, Zenyatta. We appreciate Jim Rome’s support of you and racing–I loved seeing his reaction when his horse (I think it was Diamond Gheezah) won the downhill. Talk about high hooves !!!

@Judy Berube (my link encyclopedia), Ensign or anyone else that knows. Way, way back in the diaries, there was a link that showed equine gestation and great pictures of the foal at every stage. I think Dottie might have posted the first one and it has been reposted a couple of times. Of course, I can’t find it now that I’m looking for it. Can you help?
Kari Bussell

Dear Zenyatta, I have some time to catch up today, on thinking and writing, and I have a question about a post you did a few days ago. When you were teaching us about handicap races and how some horses have to carry more weight to make things even for everyone, a thought crossed my mind. How is the weight added ? Does the jockey wear weights in his safety vest, or is it added to the saddle, or the saddle cloth ? I do get curious about these things, and decided to ask.
@Judy Berube, The maddogproduction link for Post #283 is hysterical. I can identify with the poor guy and the betting machine, because I had a similar experience at Beulah Park. Now I stick to live tellers !
@Barbara Wood, which Dick Francis novel is your favorite ? I really like Hot Money and may pick it up for my summer re-reading tonight.
