Good Morning,
I wanted to give you an update on HOW I AM DOING! I am eating very well…no surprise there…and enjoying myself tremendously. My number of treats is being monitored (as it should be) and I am drinking lots of water each day and nothing else.
As you can see, I do have a bit of a BABY BUMP. I am HAPPILY gaining a few pounds…right in the middle. As many of you may know from your own personal experiences, this is what happens when you are having a baby!
In the responses, many of you have asked about my actual breeding date. It was on April 3rd. Time is flying by so quickly. Another fun fact to note is that my paddock pal, Tasty Temptation, was also bred on the very same day. She was bred to Candy Ride and is also in foal.
Thus, Tasty T. and I have a great deal in common. We are both experiencing the exact same stages of our pregnancies together.
In looking at this photo, the clouds look amazing in the background. The sky is gorgeous…and the Kentucky Blue Grass is so lush. My friend, Matt, also looks good! He is so sweet and I so appreciate the fact that he will spend the one-to-one time grazing me like this!
As for ME, I think I look pretty terrific in this picture! (Blush, Blush) My coat looks fabulous, my dapples are glowing and I do think my overall appearance is TOO CUTE!
I’ll keep you posted and updated on what I’m doing as we go along. I’m still very busy with my friends and all of my charity work! The other day Lane’s End told ME that I recently raised $8,500 for a charity named RIDING FOR HOPE. ($2,500 for one of my halters and $6,000 for a visit with ME!)
This organization is one that “is dedicated to improving the quality of life and the health of children and adults with special physical, cognitive, emotional and social needs through therapeutic activities with the horse”. **
I am so grateful to be able to HELP!
This concept of further developing your life in the midst of having a second career, in my case…having a baby, is quite gratifying! I am really trying to use my time wisely to help others and to do my very best to MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z

Dear Zemyatta you look BEAUTIFUL.I am so happy about the baby. I do believe that you were put on this earth for all the special things you do for others. You have the most wonderful giving family :) My friend’s daughter just had a baby today. Ashley lives in CA and had the baby at home with midwives helping her deliver. California is so ahead of Ohio. They do some really cool things out there. Someday I will see that beautiful state. Have sweet dreams my beautiful girl. I love you so much. Hugs and many many Kisses, Shari XXXOOO
@Kari you are in my thoughts and prayers. I wish I could someway help :)
@Librarian my husband got a job at Dover Chemical. He has a 60 mile drive one way but we feel blessed. Things were getting pretty scary living on a teacher’s salary. In EL we do not make the big bucks like Columbus. If you are ever here I am in the book. I would love to meet you :)
@JSmith the article was great. It makes me mad to think these horses who give their hearts and souls to racing can be thrown away. I have no respect for any human being who does that. My friend Diane saved Aramando from a kill pen and he is the most wonderful sweet guy. He has made a little girl so happy. They have won awards for showing and jumping competions.

Happy Tuesday Zenny, sorry I missed Monday. Just caught up with most everything and Zazu is stunning, just like you Zen. Although, you are most special :)
Glad to hear nothing but good news for you and your “baby bump”. Also your wonderous charity work.
Thanks to everyone for all the links.
@Kari Bussell–So sorry, had missed your post about your terrible ordeal. And like others have said, things will work out. Thinking and praying for you.
Going to to say goodnight Zenny, wish I were there in all that Kentucky Bluegrass with you and Matt, it looks de-lish!
Lotsa love to all

@Judy Berube and Kathy Kimber. I so agree. Dr. Gerard was a person that I just don’t understand at all. Scatter his ashes where happy horses, my right foot! As far as Veitch is concerned, if they don’t just about fry him, I’m going to be just furious. Not only did a lot of people lose a lot of money, but that trip down the track could have killed Life at Ten. I also don’t get her owner’s stance on this at all. I don’t think he deserves to own that fine mare but I guess there’s nothing that anyone can do about that except let him know how people feel about it. Why didn’t someone listen to the jockey? Grumble, grumble, grumble!!! Time for me to quit before I get complete strung out about this. Grumble, grumble!

Zenyatta,
Do you know when we will be allowed to visit you at Lane’s End?
You look wonderful and I am so glad you are enjoying life.

Dear Sharon Call:
It is very frustrating. I’m betting next time Johnny V. notices something amiss with one of his mounts, he’ll tell the steward himself and maybe even refuse to ride. He’s the only one that seemed concerned at all. And, thank God, he just let her be and didn’t try to force her or whip her to run. She should have been scratched from the race. Hugs, J.B.

@ lobieb and Grandma Bea Gobee from Post 281: So happy to see other familiar fans of Barbaro also here. My bucket list includes the KD. I love the idea of getting Z-ers together at KD 2012! (We have time to plan.) But since Barbaro’s day is a few days before, Sunday, 4/29, I’m thinking I might make a “bucket week” of it and visiting Old Friends, the KY Horse Park, some great farms, etc. while I’m at it. Those that think they can, let’s start planning something. Re-read G-B-Gobee’s post on 281 for her contact info;
@kari bussell: what city/town are you near? Maybe there’s a Z’er near enough that can temporarily adopt the treasured piano?
@sarah powell from Post 277: about those 25 cats – I got into rescue with MildCats at ASU doing just that, spaying and neutering all the kitties left behind by college students. Sigh. Now I wish I had 25 cats – – – instead of twice that many! And yes, they always know how to find someone who cares.
@barb france from Post ???: I have saved my best friend’s voice, my Dad’s voice and my son’s voice on my answering machine. They are all gone. I have just found a place that will take them off the machine and put them on a CD.
@All: I know your eyes are tired of my stuff by now. Going home. Maybe more later!

Hi, darling “Z” – This is Louise, your buddy who’s not been around for sometime.
This is the first I knew about your baby!
Gosh, that’s exciting. Who’s the daddy? — don’t think I can guess that one.
No one will ever take your place in this old world of horses and wonderful girls in the business of racing. You’re one of a kind, my darling. God bless you, “Z” — I hope you have a precious baby that can take over where you left off! Make ’em always want more of you to see just like you. We could never get enough! We always wanted to see more. Hugs and many kisses to you sweet lady! Love you!!!!

Zenny – from all of the comments everyone seems to say the same thing! We are all your BIGGEST FAN!! We love you and your team and all that they and you do to help others. You are just TOO CUTE! Those of us in the Bluegrass would gladly make a contribution to some worthy charity just to be able to see you in person. Maybe Dottie and Lane’s End could set something up. If this would be possible, just make sure that we have time to prepare!!! Love and hugs to you. Joan

You are too beautiful, my dear!!! So glad to hear everything’s good with the baby!

Hi Zenny, Dottie and the Zen-club:
I sure loved your photo, big girl, and you are absolutely gorgeous. You’ve definitely got that “baby glow.” I’m so pleased to hear that the good people @ LE are watching your diet, while respecting your habit from Barn 55 of hand-grazing.
Of course I second the “wisdom of Zen” both for the importance of making a difference in the world and of re-defining what retirement really means. I retired from education after 36 years last November and for the first little while, the transition was tough. I mean: once you sleep in for a few days and learn that you can actually do some of the things you love but never had time for, my tendency was to kind of rush right into change. But you know what? True change doesn’t work like that. It’s a process and it takes its own time. You have to learn to trust the process and what seems like an unknown future.
What inspired me was that wonderful footage, on December 20 last year, of Zenny’s first “free run” in the snow. I REALLY related to the time she spent just standing there — because it was weird to her to just be turned loose. And then came that explosion of sheer joy! Honestly, the way Team Z and LE eased her into that moment taught me something: that I couldn’t just charge into newness until I was really ready.
….AND when I was, I wrote “A Response to ‘I Lied’ ” …took a deep breath …and mailed it to Steve Haskin @ the Blood-Horse. ….The next thing I knew, there I was, opening THE VAULT!!!!
So thank you Team Z and Zenny for another important experience in my life. You stepped right in to my “teachable moment” and made it shine.
Love & hugs to all. Peppermint kisses to Zenny.
Abigail from Montreal
On a separate note, a GREAT six minutes on Sea The Stars. (Pay attention now, Zenny, because this is one handsome boy!!!)

@Zenyatta – What a lady you are. You rank right up there with Allaire du Pont, Gretchen Jackson, and so many others who have helped with charitable causes. Those lucky people who now own a piece of history, your halter and especially the one that gets to visit you. They are truly blessed as is the charity, Riding for Hope. Oh, by the way, Matt looks wonderful and how lucky you are to have such a charming young man to be with you while you munch away the days on Kentucky Blue Grass.
@Kari Bussell – Lighting a candle for you and please know that all the good thoughts from Zenyatta’s fans are with you. Just close your eyes and feel the love and good wishes. You are not alone and when start to feel down just come and visit the fair lady Zenyatta. Love and Hugs!
@Jeanne from Texas – I love your term “look a little fluffy.”
@Susan in TN – Miss your post and the updates on Lou.
@Terry Crow – Where’s are joke for the day?
@Diana S – You are so on the money with your post regarding Zenny & Dottie. Cannot thank Dottie enough for sharing Zenyatta’s world with all of us and all of her good works. Zenyatta leads by example.
@Kathy Kimber – Thank you for the kind words. You are a very special lady and I am so glad that I got to talk with you today. Love and smiles to you.
@Golden Gate Fields – Does anyone know someone who could go over to Golden Gate Fields and get about 4 Tbls. of dirt from the winners circle?
J Smith
@Shari V. That is so nice to know, I would like to make an album or something to hang on wall at next Trott event, (Aug 28, Del Mar) with photo’s of TB’s who went on to have successful second careers. It doesn’t matter if they went thou’ Trott program or not, if your friend has a pic she would let me use and a paragraph of Aramando’s accomplishments I would love to include him. Or even just a photo of his winning ribbons if she doesn’t want his photo made public. I may not have time to get a display ready for the Aug event, but certainly will for whatever one is after that. You can email me at zenyattafans@yahoo.com Thank goodness for people like your friend Diane (I know there are many just like her on this site).
Ooooooo, I’m getting more & more annoyed that I’m out of town on the 9th!
Life At Ten, haven’t had time to read all posts, but I’ll throw my 10 cents in…. I do blame the jockey, he was the one that knew something was off, but he still got on her and let her go into the starting gate. Why would you perch on top of a 1000+ lb animal, surrounded by other 1000lb animals, if you thought yours wasn’t 100%? Of course, he is not soley to blame, but he was the last line of defense. I mean, do we take our dogs on a strenuous hike if we see they don’t look well? I will try to read the other posts later, hope I haven’t stuck my foot in mouth and missed an important bit of info.!
Morgan
we pour our love out to you and pray for your very best during your time in foal, as always my darling Z.

Good evening Zenyatta,
you look marvelous :) :) :)
A family I work with has a son with Downs and he attended camp with therapy horses many times. People with mental disabilities really come out of their shell, when on horseback. Really enjoy themselves. It’s a little sunshine for everybody :) :) :) Thank you.
Have a restful night, you need your sleep, everything for two now. :) :) :)
Jan
Zenyatta,
Thanks for all of the informative & interesting info you give us daily.. You are totally awesome Big Mama, and you’re looking good..

Dear Zenny, I see that Thoroughbred Times is starting a new series to honor the unsung heroes of the horse world, and in their announcement they feature a picture of John Shear, the worker who risked his life putting himself in the path of a loose horse at Santa Anita that was charging toward a little girl. The link shows the list of people who will be honored over coming weeks. Kudos to John Shear and Thoroughbred Times.

@ ALL Z-FANS: Yes, Yes, everybody come if you can to meet at Hollywood Park on July 9!
@Shari Voltz—I’m looking forward to the day you make it to California.
@Judy Berube—Thanks for the link on #283 to the hilarious article by Mad Dog about his attempts to use the automated betting machines. Too funny!
@Cynthia H—I went to Liza G. Fly’s facebook page and didn’t find a letter to fans there, perhaps because I hadn’t sent a friend request before, so I sent one and am waiting to be accepted. I so adore the song Liza did for Z, and would like to help Liza if I can, in honor of Z.
@Diana S—Blessings to you for rescuing all those kitties!
Michelle
@signofthetimes – Thanks for explaining lead changes. It just seems so odd to me. Can you imagine running and switching? I think I would fall EVERY time – lol
WOW Zenny you have quite the baby bump going there. You look Fantastic and I hope to see you one day at the farm. Love you forever!
Melissa
Zenny, you look so beautiful. You are a true angel from Heaven. I love you xoxox!

@Abigail from Montreal: Your story of transition above has brought tears to my eyes. I read your “Response to ‘I lied'” and cried then too. And here we all are, awaiting each new chapter of The Vault. You are wonderful!
Thank you again, Zenyatta and Dottie for all of this.

Zenyatta, you always look so good and being with foal just makes you look sooo Cute. I always appreciate the pictures of how you are doing. I figured that you were bred back to Bernie on April 3rd. so i was right, thank you. I was hopeing your baby would be born on your birthday but that seems a little too late. This whole thing is very exciting and especially not knowing if you are haveing a Filly or a Colt. I just hope it is so much like you. Thank you for the information, it means alot. I love you Zenny and you are so beautiful to me in every way. Have fun grazeing with Matt watching on.

You do have a glow, Zenyatta. Great job in helping so many. You are my inspiration.

To all waiting fore the joke–I posted it earlier. What do you call a horse with a sore throat? A hoarse horse. I will be back on early tomorrow. There are a lot of outstanding posts here and I intend to have answers. Good Night all.
