Happy Saturday!
This photo is absolutely TOO CUTE! A few days ago, a dear fan of mine, Judy Gadwell, and several of her friends went to BARN 55 to visit MY STALL and see my dear little sister, Eblouissante. Well, while Judy was greeting “E”, she began sniffing Judy’s purse. Lo and behold, Judy started to laugh telling Steve that she had caramel corn in her bag.
The sense of smell must be something that is very well developed in our family. Last year, when I hosted a brunch for charity (The Los Angeles Zoo), I did the same thing. My one guest, Karen, set her purse down on a chair at the end of the table. While I was out grazing and enjoying myself hosting the visit, something kept drawing ME to Karen’s purse.
I walked right over to the table and immediately started to sniff Karen’s bag…just like “E” did with Judy. Suddenly everyone started to laugh and Karen commented…”Oh, I forgot….I brought some baby carrots for Zenyatta and they are in my purse.”
Karen immediately took the carrots out of her bag…..put some on the end of the table…and I began to snack on them. It truly was BRUNCH WITH ZENYATTA!
I find this so interesting. I guess many different types of characteristics can be shared in a family. “E” and I not only have a well-developed sense of smell…but we both have a great sense of taste (loving our treats and food), hearing (wear cotton in our ears), touch (love to be pet and hugged), sight (see everything all of the time).
This family thing is very interesting to ME!
Have a great weekend! Enjoy all of the wonderful stakes races around the country and LET THE SUMMER BEGIN!
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~ (Good luck to my pals Cloud Man, Zazu, and Cozi HRosie)

@Trina N– thanks for the link. I was checking the latest link and didn’t think to go back to the original. We’ve been out of town for a week. It’s so hard to keep up. I’m going to make a concerted effort to read every post every day. What else is ther to do when the temperatures outside top 103?
Barbara Wood
Sorry for the typo–“there”.

@Trina N: Thank you for the link on Little Frankie, it is too much to handle..this should have been.
DJ
To Trina N: Thank you for sharing the heart warming and heart wrenching story of the short life of Frankie the Foal. I am comforted that our Good Lord who knows best took her home with Him for eternal healing. At the very least, Frankie experienced love during her final days here in this sometimes very barbaric world in which we live. Love from her mother, who never abandoned her, and love from the Good Dr. Amy who gave her the gift of fortitude and all of the other caretakers and well-intentioned hearts who gathered to assist her in her hours of need; making sure she was as comfortable as possible and not alone when she let go. I truly hope the dogs are still not out there running amok in such close proximity to unsuspecting horses and their foal. No life is ‘little’ and I hope hers’ saves another.
DJ
Dearest Sweet “Z”,
A good morning z-hug for you and your little one to Be! Or should I say, “your little one to Z!” I hope to check back later with a new hello from you and your dear Dottie! Enjoy a beautiful Today…

To Linda in NJ: Hollywood Park closes Sunday July 17th and Del Mar’s Opening Day is Wednesday July 20!! Wishing you a great trip to Hollywood Park :)

@Sue Frederick–Since you are involved with dog shows, why doesn’t a basset hound win best in show? A man told me once that it was because the dogs always look like the IRS is after them. @Trina Nagele-Due to a diminishing number of requests is sort of my tribute to Henny Youngman, who always prefaced a barrage of his jokes with that comment. Here is today’s groaner–I will post a longer one later the new thread is started. What do you call a horse which plays the violin–fiddler on the hoof.

Zenyatta, I love your “news” articles. You are so funny. I know Dottie helps you, so she must have a good sense of humor also. Wish all of us could have a chance to see you at Lane’s End. We’ll bring you treats…….is that tempting?
Hugs and Prayers always
Polly
Zenyatta, I would fly to the ends of the earth to see you. Dottie, please plan a Zenyatta Day at Lanes End, after Zenny drops her foal and it would be safe to have visitors.

@ ALL – FYI if you have intentions to visit Barn 55, I suggest you contact them prior to going… John does morning workouts. When I went for my visit, I was asked to please go after he is not so busy – and the barn – with these workouts. You can appreciate that – right! :-D

Dear Zeny and Dottie:
Congratulations to ZAZU and CLOUD MAN for winning first and second place. You must be very proud of them.
Zeny and Dottie: I saw the documentary on BUCK BRANNAMAN yesterday and I recommend it to all your fans. It’s about his gentle technique and love for horses and people. His approach reminds me of your dear John. It is touching, inspiring and educational for the whole family to watch. Hugs, Marilu

Angel Kisses are the best medicine from above! Will pray harder for those to work their ‘magic’ from HIS HANDS!

Same for you our ‘Sweet’ one – remember, HIS HANDS are those Angel Kisses too!

Anyone that voted for Miss TRF 2011, the winner has been crowned, it’s Patti. She is indeed a beauty. This was such a cute idea, even if u didn’t know about it, check it out, you will want to vote next year. Throroughbred Retirement Foundation held a beauty contest for it’s mares in VA. http://colonialdowns.com/misstrf/

@Dawn Conrad–you might try Normandy Farm. Their burial ground is the draw (plus the old barn that was used in the Seabiscuit movie). We had our own private tour.
DJ
To Marilu V: Thank you! I so look forward to seeing ‘Buck.’ I enjoyed the Horse Whisperer, and this appears to be another winner.

Terry Crow—–I too was into dog showing for several years, it’s not that the judges are against Bassets, they are great dogs, but there are many, many breeds that have Never won BIS!
PS—-Fiddler on the Hoof—C’mon

Does anyone know what happened to the dogs that attacked sweet little Frankie? I have an idea as to what SHOULD happen to them—-and their owners!

@ Linda in NJ – I’m sorry to just be replying to your question on how I contacted Barn 55. I have another means of contacting someone who is at the barn, but I do to privacy issues, I don’t feel comfortable sharing it here. I hope you understand. Therefore, yes, I suggest you contact Barn 55 by calling Hollywood Park. Good luck!
