Happy Saturday!
This photo is absolutely TOO CUTE! A few days ago, a dear fan of mine, Judy Gadwell, and several of her friends went to BARN 55 to visit MY STALL and see my dear little sister, Eblouissante. Well, while Judy was greeting “E”, she began sniffing Judy’s purse. Lo and behold, Judy started to laugh telling Steve that she had caramel corn in her bag.
The sense of smell must be something that is very well developed in our family. Last year, when I hosted a brunch for charity (The Los Angeles Zoo), I did the same thing. My one guest, Karen, set her purse down on a chair at the end of the table. While I was out grazing and enjoying myself hosting the visit, something kept drawing ME to Karen’s purse.
I walked right over to the table and immediately started to sniff Karen’s bag…just like “E” did with Judy. Suddenly everyone started to laugh and Karen commented…”Oh, I forgot….I brought some baby carrots for Zenyatta and they are in my purse.”
Karen immediately took the carrots out of her bag…..put some on the end of the table…and I began to snack on them. It truly was BRUNCH WITH ZENYATTA!
I find this so interesting. I guess many different types of characteristics can be shared in a family. “E” and I not only have a well-developed sense of smell…but we both have a great sense of taste (loving our treats and food), hearing (wear cotton in our ears), touch (love to be pet and hugged), sight (see everything all of the time).
This family thing is very interesting to ME!
Have a great weekend! Enjoy all of the wonderful stakes races around the country and LET THE SUMMER BEGIN!
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~ (Good luck to my pals Cloud Man, Zazu, and Cozi HRosie)

Hi, OraJean,
You mentioned you thought Lava Man had worked, but I wonder if you aren’t mixing him up with a horse who DID work, named Leyva Man? I find no works for Lava Man, anywhere. Can you tell me the date?
Thanks!
Cynthia H.
@Anne from Paramount: Thank you, Anne. I thoroughly enjoyed the story of your visit to Barn 55, too. I remember you as a caller from Mike WIllman’s radio show! Best of luck with your horse!

@ Kari Bussell – just came in from the barn and caught up on all the posts – watched your video and am trying to type through tears! It might be your best yet and I think I’ve seen them all. Thanks for all your hard work even though it is a “labor of love”!

@ Dawn Conrad – your thoughts about living in the moment are so well said. Thank you for the reminder to us all. We see it each day in our equine, canine, feline, etc… friends – we need only to take heed.
@ all the great racing posts and progress with Noor – thank you as always for a place to call home. Educating and enjoyable.
@ all the great races by our friends on the track (and off) – keep them coming and keep coming home safe.
AJ from CA
@Kari Bussell – you certainly have a knack for making beautiful videos that pull at the heartstrings. Z’s eyes are so amazing and really mirrors her kind and beautiful soul. Thanks for sharing!

Here is a very nice article about Zazu’s win. She did very well. Zenyatta must be proud of her.

@Max and Judy B
I posted Zazu”s win earlier on in this post. In fact yesterday the day of the race. Sorry you missed it then.
@judy B
Abigail did a great blog on Norther Dancer. It was awesome.
Great Irish Derby, wish CH won, but a great effort by the winner.

Lots of great comments on HRTV about ZaZu’s performance yesterday.
Jeff Segel said that we have not seen her best as the pace has been slow in her races especially yesterday. “Wait until there is a fast pace, as a closer we will really see her fly” Maybe like Z. Good Luck to Zazu !!!!!!!
Maybe champion 3 year old filly ???? !!!!!!

@Abigail from Montreal
What a lovely video on Sargent Reckless. What a brave and quiet horse to be able to tolerate all that gun fire and to transport the ammunition by herself. Soooo glad they have the video.

@Cynthia H.: I seem to remember reading that you work at Hollywood Park? Is that right?

@Trina N–I just learned about the death of Frankie the foal. Can you fill me in on what happened? I thought she was improving. Thanks.

Signofthetimes:
Thank you for posting Zazu’s video, the Irish Derby article and the link on Northern Dancer from Abigail. That would be wonderful if Zazu gets Three Year Old Champion Filly. Hugs, J.B.

tribute to Mike Smith.

Dear Signofthetimes:
Thank you so much for the link on Northern Dancer. I’m only up to his two year old story. He won seven (7) races in two months as a two year old. That is incredible. Then he came down with the same hoof crack problem as his sire. This horse was incredible. I will continue reading his story. Thanks again. Hugs, J.B.

Love to see that you share so much in common with your little sis! Love to see pictures of the Dumplings. Judy is so lucky to get to visit your stall. Can’t wait to see the first baby in that barn!
Love 2 U Z!

Dear Signofthetimes:
You’re welcome. If you go back in B. Livingston’s Blog to April 27th, she’s got a really nice story and photos on Uncle Mo. I just finished the Northern Dancer story. He was something else. I’m so glad the Moss’ chose Bernardini for Zenyatta. He has Norther Dancer on his Dam’s side. Hugs, J.B.

Zenny & Z Family: I’m guessing Dottie is taking a well-deserved day off from transcribing Z’s thoughts. Maybe attending the induction ceremony for Mr. & Mrs. Moss? They so deserve all the awards and honors that can be given them!
@Jeanne Johnson: Cool! I mean, Hot! Another AZ Z’er. I know there are a couple others – maybe we can have a mini Z party one of these days?
@All: Calling it a night. Will post some things tomorrow evening.
Cozi Rosey – a 2nd after such a bummer race is no embarrassment!

RE: Frankie (the foal in North Carolina who was attacked by dogs when she was just two days old) @Barbara Wood: The website hasn’t yet explained exactly what happened. They always said she wasn’t out of the woods, though she had been improving. I suspect that infection set in. Dr. Amy Poole Jordan, the vet in charge of Frankie’s care at Bear Creek Veterinary Services, posted this statement on June 22: “We lost a long battle with Little Frankie. Three weeks to the day from when she arrived, she left us. Just not the way I had hoped. …. Her memory and spirit remain with us at Bear Creek. Never to be forgotten. Another will day will dawn along with new opportunities to help others just like her. Give us the strength to carry on as we started.” Her husband, who was managing the website with photos and updates, was out of town when this transpired, but he promised to do a bigger update when he returns this week. http://carolinaregion.com/2011/06/05/frankieneedshelp/

@Charlotte Farmer–Thank you for the link to the Union article and video. Thanks to the video, I now know that “Noor” rhymes with “moor” and NOT with “door,” right? Keep up the good work with the publicity.

@Terry Crow–What do you mean “diminishing requests?” You have a whole fan club here! Keep those jokes coming!

@Linda in NJ–When I went to Barn 55, we drove back to the entrance to the barn area, and there was a guard there who we asked to telephone Barn 55 to get permission. He then issued us little stick-on badges as passes. I hope to meet you at HP on July 9th.

Good night and sleep tight, sweet Z. I’ll be looking forward to hearing from you in the morning. (Thanks, Dottie!)

@ Max, Judy, Sue So glad to read that you all knew the results of the Queen’s Plate from Woodbine. Victoria was ecstatic when Inglorious won, she had (I have to do it, she’s too young) put money on her but most importantly to her, it was a filly, trained by woman, who kicked the butt of the sixteen colts. I thought Vic was going to blow a fuse or at least a vocal cord in that stretch run. Definitely a Zenyatta style finish. As a fervant fan of Zenny, Rachel and Rags, Vic could hardly contain herself.
A bit of excitement in the 9th race, Guest Appearing threw his jockey, Tyler Pizarro, who was down for a few minutes, and the horse took off on his own. Once caught, the jockey remounted, they came out of the gate very well and led the race from gate to wire so a nice win after what looked hopeless.
Needless to say, we are going to be watching Inglorious closely now. We are hoping to see her again on July 17th in the Prince of Wales here in our hometown Fort Erie and I’m going to have to seriously consider making the 5 hour drive to Saratoga if she’s going there. I’m not sure that senior citizens can afford all the gas money for these excursions to Lexington and possibly Saratoga but hopefully gas prices will come down. Looking forward to today’s post and pictures from Zenny. Go girls!!
