Happy Saturday!
This photo is absolutely TOO CUTE! A few days ago, a dear fan of mine, Judy Gadwell, and several of her friends went to BARN 55 to visit MY STALL and see my dear little sister, Eblouissante. Well, while Judy was greeting “E”, she began sniffing Judy’s purse. Lo and behold, Judy started to laugh telling Steve that she had caramel corn in her bag.
The sense of smell must be something that is very well developed in our family. Last year, when I hosted a brunch for charity (The Los Angeles Zoo), I did the same thing. My one guest, Karen, set her purse down on a chair at the end of the table. While I was out grazing and enjoying myself hosting the visit, something kept drawing ME to Karen’s purse.
I walked right over to the table and immediately started to sniff Karen’s bag…just like “E” did with Judy. Suddenly everyone started to laugh and Karen commented…”Oh, I forgot….I brought some baby carrots for Zenyatta and they are in my purse.”
Karen immediately took the carrots out of her bag…..put some on the end of the table…and I began to snack on them. It truly was BRUNCH WITH ZENYATTA!
I find this so interesting. I guess many different types of characteristics can be shared in a family. “E” and I not only have a well-developed sense of smell…but we both have a great sense of taste (loving our treats and food), hearing (wear cotton in our ears), touch (love to be pet and hugged), sight (see everything all of the time).
This family thing is very interesting to ME!
Have a great weekend! Enjoy all of the wonderful stakes races around the country and LET THE SUMMER BEGIN!
With Love,
Hugs to ALL~ (Good luck to my pals Cloud Man, Zazu, and Cozi HRosie)

Two good Zenyatta things happened yesterday! (1) ZAZU (2) The great clips on Classic Countdown on HRTV, with Zenyatta as the #1 greatest win in the Santa Margarita Stakes (Lady’s Secret was #2).

@Terry Crow & @The Kennedys in San Diego: Thanks so much for the info. Terry Lol at your post. Hey I am really excited. I would love to fly out for this event and see Hollywood Park. I didn’t realize there is so much history. Do you think I can still get reserved sitting tickets. I just called the office and they didn’t answer. I hope they are there tomorrow.
@Charlotte Farmer: After having read your post and watching the Noor video, I realized I wanted to come and see a race at Hollywood Park.
Oh, I hope I can still get a ticket in reserved sitting. Thanks again.

@judy berube Thank you for the link to the Queen’s Plate race. That was a great video. It was nice to hear how happy that her jockey was about the race and about the horse. Inglorious ran a Zenyatta race against the boys. She is apparently like Z in other ways. They say that she is always calm. The plan was to send her to the Kentucky Oaks but she had a bruised foot which kept her out. Her owner is undecided as to whether to keep her on the trail to the Canadian Triple Crown or to send her to Saratoga. The Canadian races are becoming more attractive to American owners because they are so rich in winnings and incentives. That is one of the reasons why Canadian breds are very popular, that and the fact that Canadian horses are usually high quality horses. Adena Springs has won the Eclipse as the top breeder many times. It is Canadian owned. Thanks again.
Terry Crow
@Judy Berube–Faith Healer came in at 25-1. Unfortunately, the rest of the horses in the race came in at 12:30. @ Kari Bussell-Thanks for the link. So nice to see Zenyatta enjoying her retirement, although I still miss seeing her on the racetrack. When I Need you is one of my favorites. I used to sing it to myself when my old hound died and it helped.@Debbie G and Diana S-Due to a diminshing number of requests, here goes–My horse would have done better in the race, but he kept looking back for the plow. @Charlotte Farmer–If anyone can help, it will be Bill. The idea of links to other papers is outstanding. Your comment about wanting to go back to 1950 certainly applies in my case. That was a much better time for me.

Happy Summer!

@Max I don’t quite know how to take your comment….are you saying that American horses are not “high quality”? A lot of the Canadian breds are bred from American stallions. I hope I took your remark the wrong way….wouldn’t like to think you would slam our horses that way.
Max
@Sue Frederick. There was no insult to American horses. There is just some interest in Canadian breds at present because it makes some sense to US owners to enter races which pay well. Unless you have a Canadian bred horse, you cannot enter some of these races, such as the Queen’s Plate. No offense meant to American horses.

Dear Z Fans:
Bad racing luck for Cozie Rosie today. She ran a valiant second after slow start and clipping heels with another horse. Hugs, J.B.
judy berube
Dear Terry Crow:
Still laughing. Hugs, J.B.
PS: Did you get a copy of the race diary?
judy berube
Dear Max:
You’re welcome. Wouldn’t it be great if they decide to run Inglorious at Saratoga this Summer! Thanks for all the info you share with us. Hugs, J.B.
Terry Crow
@Linda in NJ–Hollywood Park has greatly reduced its staff but you still should be able to get any kind of a seat that you want. Just keep plugging. An e-mail would probably suffice. Its web site is http://www.hollywoodpark.com.That and Santa Anita’s are the only web sites I know. If you are unable to rouse them, perhaps some of our Z friends at the track can help you.

Dear Trina Nagele and Shari Voltz:
You’re welcome. Hugs, J.B.
PS: Shari, glad you enjoyed your Anniversary Day.

@Terry Crow Thanks. Great idea. I’ll try to email them too. Very cool. I am really excited. I hope there will be some Z Fans there. Would like to meet the CA Z Fans. I hope John will let me visit his Barn 55 on July 8th! Wouldn’t that be a blast.

@judy berube: I saw the race on HRTV. They said she clipped heals with the pace setter. I saw you come from behind but wasn’t sure if she “Place.” HRTV took a commerical break and I didn’t hear the outcome. That’s great she came in second. It must have been close.

@ Kari Bussell – Go read my fb wall, gf! I tried to stop the tears, but it didn’t work while watching your AWESOME video!
Sue Fredrick
@Max, good I’m glad that is the explanation, guess I’m just sensitive about that because I used to show dogs and horses, and many people enjoy spending their time knocking someone else’s breeding. Sorry, glad we straitened it out.

To Kari B.: Our “Sweet Z” is not the only one with a heart the size of a Soccer Ball…thank you! I guess I needed the ‘sniff..sniff..little tears’ of joy and sorrow cantering down memory lane with her once again. Thank you especially for the picture at the end with her mischievious smile :) Your video timing with the photos to music is an art which captures and expresses her innate natural beauty and awesome Spirit. What a Gift…

Congratulations to Cozi Rosie for a fantastic Place! Right behind Malibu Pier…what a horse you are Rosie!!

Hi All: Wonderful post–didnt know horses had such excellent smell– great pic’s–get choked up about Zenny’s stall–I wonder if John is waiting for the little Z to come along to fill it–hmmmmmm. Take care, have blue skys and sunshine Zenyatta Moss.

Dear Linda in N.J.
Cozie Rosie clipped heels right at the start with Restless Soul. Then at one point she was 10 lengths behind in 3rd place. So she really closed well to be second l 3/4 lengths behind Malibu Pier who ended up winning the race. Hugs, J.B.

Zenny, too cute! I can’t wait to see “E” race. Love you and have a great week!

@ Kari Bussell – thanks so much for the video. It was just wonderful.

Dear Linda In N.J.:
I spelled her name wrong. Should be Cozi Rosie. Hugs, J.B.

@Sue Fredrick. You are right about American stallions as sires. Owners can bred their mares in the US and send them to Canada for foaling if they want the foals to be eligible for these races. In some cases, it is a good business decision to do this, but it does not take away from the fact that the horses are US owned and trained. Todd Pletcher for example had two of his horses in the QP today. One was ridden by Johnny Velasquez. I think that Chantal Sutherland was also in that race. Racing is now international. You may remember how much time Master of Hounds spent flying back and forth to the US from Europe. Racing can be so much fun!

@The Kennedys in San Diego, Thank you for letting us know about the Baby Boot Camp for yearling on bloodhorse.

Z … you are just adorable!

judy berube: Thank you for reading it! Hugs in return.
@Sarah Powell: Thank you so much. I agree—there are stories on this site one can read no where else, AND comedy relief from Terry Crow, too!
@Dawn Conrad: Your comment means so much. Your wonderful words are alive with a profound love of the sport, which is the common bond which draws us all together (not to mention our everlasting love of Zenyatta!). I wish so much that you could be given the chance to visit the historic Calument graveyard. You would truly appreciate it on the deepest level. Your itinerary is beyond exciting! I hope that we will be given the opportunity to share in your travels through your insightful and gifted observations. Blessings.
@Trina Nagele: Thank you so much. Your comments are always so kind and sensitive to the feelings of others.
@Terry crow: Thank you, Terry. I hope that your upcoming trip to California has a “Hollywood” ending!
@Kari Bussell: Your life is a lesson in courage. Until the 12th of Never, my friend.
Debbie G: Thank you, Debbie. I am glad!

Love and Kisses Zenny!!!!!

Dear Charlotte Farmer: Good thoughts for all your dedication to Noor`s rest & that it comes together as planned ever more wonderfully. Thank you for the link to his story [however nudged] in The Union & video of his powerful Gold Cup win. [Not all of the field going to the track was accompanied by ponies & riders; wonder when this pairing became a norm?] Loved seeing Marcela Howard.
