Good Morning All,
Yesterday, as further details and reports were published in relation to the tornado and Churchill Downs, it continued to amaze ME that there were no injuries of note to human or horse. The photos published during the day showed the level of damage… and it truly was miraculous! Thank goodness for the quick reactions and assistance by so many wonderful people. Also, it was mentioned that the actual construction of the Churchill Barns…with the hay storage areas located above the stalls being so strong and well built…added to the safety of so many horses in this storm.
There is a phrase MY TEAM often reflects upon when hearing certain things like this and it is LUCKY US! This thought certainly applies at this time to this situation.
I must say, I was so touched by your comments yesterday referring to GRATITUDE, CHERISHING THE LITTLE THINGS and BEING THANKFUL! These feelings and emotions are so important to practice in life.
With this thought in mind, I truly want to again express how THANKFUL I am for ALL of the wonderful people I have and have had in my life. On so many levels, it certainly has been a bit of work to get ME to the place where I am today. I do understand that I have talent, but I am also fully aware of the fact that I could not have done it by just having talent or by myself. So much in life depends upon people working together for the best interest of one individual or another or the greater good for many.
Thus, while grazing, the thought occurred to me to THANK my pal at Lane’s End, MATT, for being so terrific to ME. So I did! I walked right over to him and gave him a BIG KISS. I must say, I do think this caught him a bit by surprise. As you can see in this photo, I made him laugh. I think at this moment, Matt truly thought I was TOO CUTE!
This morning, Dottie mentioned that I currently have over 86,000 Face Book Friends! Wow…I am deeply touched by this number!
I’m sending each of you a BIG THANK-YOU KISS too!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(All 86,131 of YOU!)

@Karla Phelps: I am sure if Zenny could respond to your post she would say something like this: Karla do you want me to have fun? Well then–I am not going to look so perfect all the time. I have fun rolling around on the grass, running and jumping and playing. So when I come back to the barn, I look like I was out in the paddock having some fun with my friends. That’s all.
Michelle
I love you Z. Your kisses would make us all smile. You are truly a lucky and very special girl. I am also thankful that Churchill Downs is still standing and that no one (horse or human) was hurt.

Oh, Zenny, I just happen to think. Yes, lucky Matt, but I hope Mikey won’t be jealous!

TO ALL WHO COMMENTED ON THE MOST RECENT ARTICLE ON THE “POWER OF X” : thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thanks to Zenyatta, Dottie, John & Steve Haskin, I am living my dream of being involved with thoroughbreds and honouring horse racing fans. Even though this last article took a long time to write in a way that was clear for intelligent, non-geneticists, it’s always worth it when I hear back from so many of you!
SOME INFO ON COZI ROSIE: I was stopped dead by the article posted by Judy (Maas) Gadwood on the Mosses filly, because GOLDEN FLEECE was one of my all-time favourite thoroughbreds and he is Rosie’s broodmare sire!!!!**** A little backgrounf: Golden Fleece was a son of the great Nijinsky II and, according to Vincent O’Brien, who trained a large number of thoroughbred stars from his operation @ Ballydoyle in Ireland (and who also started Coolmore after he retired), Golden Fleece was probably the third greatest horse he ever trained. This is a HUGE statement for O’Brien to make, as you might imagine. Anyway, the beautiful bay colt won the Epsom Derby and only raced another four times, but retired undefeated. (He was retired early because it was clear to all that he was “another Nijinsky” after he — literally — walked away from the field at Epsom.) He was Champion Three-Year-Old Colt in England & Ireland 1982.Sadly, Golden Fleece developed a cough that was eventually diagnosed as leukemia and he died in 1984 in Ireland at age 5. At his death, he had sired 2 crops: 59 foals, 47 runners, 29 winners, 6 stakes winners. He is the sire of 26 producing daughters who have produced 129 foals, 15 stakes winners, 1 champion. I have about a dozen photos of Golden Fleece in my own collection but was THRILLED to see that he has a granddaughter racing in the USA!!!!! Hopefully, the Mosses will breed her to another large heart stallion (like our friend, Bernie) because these bloodlines are both spectacular & precious!!!!
RE: RECKLESS. There was a book written about this great Korean thoroughbred. It’s scarce but fascinating reading. Here are the coordinates: “Reckless: Pride of the Marines” by Andrew Geer, E.P. Dutton publisher, 1955. Try your library or abebooks.com (best prices on used books, including lots on horses!!!)

P.S. The stats on Golden Fleece’s runners & winners are likely out of date, since they were posted before Cozi Rosie and her half-siblings My Captain (1999) and Lexicon (1995) came along. So it should read re: producing daughters: 4 champions (at least!) In any case, his stats for 2 years as a stallion are phenomenal, given the fact that it can take up to 7 years for a stallion to really “show what he’s got.”

Dear Abigail in Montreal:
Thank you so much. The information you share is so interesting and informative. I knew nothing about Golden Fleece until reading your post. How sad that he passed on too soon. Rosie is special to me for more than one reason. I follow her because she is owned by the Moss’, but also because Rose was my Mom’s name. We are so lucky to have a talented granddaughter of Golden Fleece to cheer on. Hugs, J.B

Zenyatta, you have a good point about the construction of Churchill Downs contributing to the fact that no one or no horse was hurt by the tornado. You also stress the importance of enjoying even the little things in life and relaxing. You are also well aware of the importance of working together. I would accept a kiss from you or any horse anytime, even if it took me by surprise. I am happy to hear that you have so many facebook friends, myself included, as far as I know.
Cynthia
