Good Morning All,
Yesterday, as further details and reports were published in relation to the tornado and Churchill Downs, it continued to amaze ME that there were no injuries of note to human or horse. The photos published during the day showed the level of damage… and it truly was miraculous! Thank goodness for the quick reactions and assistance by so many wonderful people. Also, it was mentioned that the actual construction of the Churchill Barns…with the hay storage areas located above the stalls being so strong and well built…added to the safety of so many horses in this storm.
There is a phrase MY TEAM often reflects upon when hearing certain things like this and it is LUCKY US! This thought certainly applies at this time to this situation.
I must say, I was so touched by your comments yesterday referring to GRATITUDE, CHERISHING THE LITTLE THINGS and BEING THANKFUL! These feelings and emotions are so important to practice in life.
With this thought in mind, I truly want to again express how THANKFUL I am for ALL of the wonderful people I have and have had in my life. On so many levels, it certainly has been a bit of work to get ME to the place where I am today. I do understand that I have talent, but I am also fully aware of the fact that I could not have done it by just having talent or by myself. So much in life depends upon people working together for the best interest of one individual or another or the greater good for many.
Thus, while grazing, the thought occurred to me to THANK my pal at Lane’s End, MATT, for being so terrific to ME. So I did! I walked right over to him and gave him a BIG KISS. I must say, I do think this caught him a bit by surprise. As you can see in this photo, I made him laugh. I think at this moment, Matt truly thought I was TOO CUTE!
This morning, Dottie mentioned that I currently have over 86,000 Face Book Friends! Wow…I am deeply touched by this number!
I’m sending each of you a BIG THANK-YOU KISS too!
With Love,
Hugs to All~(All 86,131 of YOU!)

What a great picture, Zenny, how beautiful you are, and what a beautiful person you have become! Whoever had a part in helping you become the person you are today, and I know there were many, have brought the miracle. You are an inspiration. Love to you, beautiful Lady! Jean.

I don’t think racing will ever have the excitement as it did when you raced. You are my favorite horse of all time and I never was much for fillies and Mares. But Zenyatta you are such an amazing animal that you changed all that.
Love & Miss you,
Decker

Zen – being a broodmare instead of a pampered racehorse is taking it’s toll. Is it not possible for them to at least groom you a little better? Sad. This picture of you makes me sad.

So cute, so cute, love the photo… I love you my adorable Zenyatta.

@Karla Phelps. I’m not sure why you are sad because of this picture. Z had probably been rolling before the picture was taken. We’ve gotten daily pictures of her at LE and she aways looks wonderful. The dapples are standing out beautifully and she looks slick and sleek. She grazes on the KY “blue” grass and LE keeps their pastures improved and balanced, she has her pasture buddies and treats every day and a whole entourage of people that look after her. The grooming is not nearly as important as the superb care she gets from the experts at LE.

@Judy Mass Gadwood: I got to thinking I’m so grateful to you and all the people like you who take part in horse rescue. Our blessed little Frankie is no longer in pain he is healed and in heaven. You people who make the effort to be a part of this type of thing are wonderful. Its a difficult thing to do but you bring warmth and compassion and love to horses who so desparately need it. So thank you so very much.

I’m so thankful the horses are safe at Churchill Downs to think what could have happened and they took it in stride so to speak. People were unhurt too. I’ve seen enough of what tornados do and it is indeed an miracle they came thru.

Dear Karla Phelps:
Don’t be sad. Z probably gets a bath every day. But, she rolls in the grass and has fun like a horse should. She’s doing everything a broodmare should do; just as she did everything right as a racer. This time next year you will feel happy I think when you see Little Z. Hugs, J.B.

@Sgt Reckless: I took the liberty of contacing http://www.SgtGrit.com This is a company that produces maring corp memorabilia. T.Shirts, etc. to many things to name. I told them about Sgt. Reckless because I think they should do a T-Shirt honoring her. The man who started this company is a Viet Nam vetran and didn’t know about her histroy. They often honor heros of the Old Breed. Anyway they were interested and promised to check out her histroy. So one never knows but they may actually decide it is a good idea

Dear Karla Phelps: Don’t worry about Zeny not getting her mane brushed. She probably just returned from grazing which she loves so much. LE takes great care of her. The Mosses and the entire Z family are making sure she has the best attention and care. Marilu

Zenny…to echo others, lucky Matt. Oh, to get a sweet kiss from YOU. It would make my day, month, year, etc., To coin Dottie’s favorite phrase…you are just TOO CUTE!
Robin
I wish I was the one holding the end of that lead line, I would love to get a kiss from you Zenyatta! Lucky Matt!!!

OH, MY!!! That photo is just so adorable!! You have just made my day. The joy in his face at the surprise kiss from our Queen is such a delight, it just tickles me. I need to slow down here and not get so carried away with my babbling, but oh, that is just TOO CUTE! Ok, better now. :) Yes. We do need to all be grateful, be thankful for all that we have in life, for those special people and animals who fill our world and yes, grateful for the lives of horses and people who were spared in the tornado in Louisville. It is wonderful that everyone pulled together to ensure the others were safe. We so often take for granted… which brings me to – not taking this site for granted. Thank you for being here for us Zenyatta and Dottie and all of Team Z. Thank you doesn’t truly express it well enough, but please know it is sincere.

Dear Terry Crow:
Keep the jokes coming; so funny. Hope your friend Don is better. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Miss Karla Phelps, I think you can relish that the Queen is being allowed to be “just a horse”! She’s returning to her ‘roots’. Over-pampering/over grooming her could be considered almost mistreating her at this point. Her health needs, her hoof, dental, etc., needs are all met using the highest quality services available. She is loving being allowed to be “just a horse”! She worked hard at her job and now she actually gets to hang around with her pals and do what horses do…run around her paddock, have fun, graze, and roll in the dirt! Yippee!! She stays outside more than she’s in, I believe. Keeping her “show ready” just isn’t what she’s about right now! It would be like making a kid dress up in their Sunday best every day and telling them “don’t get dirty”!! I think Zen, if she really could talk, would say, “Shhhsssh! I don’t think so!”
Maybe Dottie can address what the process is for returning a high-octane filly to being a regular horse, and how it differs from keeping a t’bred race ready. I know you are concerned, but you really need not be. She is undoubtedly the most loved and cared for horse ever to have the good fortune to be owned by Ann and Jerry Moss. If she could, Ann would have had Zen move to their home in California! There was a wonderful article prior to the BCC10, an in-depth background story, in which it was revealed by Jerry Moss that Ann had asked him if their neighborhood allowed horses! So, I think you can relax and be assured Zenyatta is very, very happy at this point. Hugs and best wishes to you, Ann Maree
