Hello,
This is TOO CUTE! Yesterday at Hollywood Park, a few of the 2 year olds MY JOHN has in training breezed down the lane and galloped out nicely. To be honest, this one sure looks familiar to ME! I’d know those hind-quarters anywhere. (Although I must say, these days I am gaining a bit of weight! This comes with eating for 2 you know!) Blush, Blush!
This filly in the photo is my dear relative, Eblouissante! Here she is walking back to Barn 55 after her workout. Amy breezed her. “E” ( by Bernardini) went a very nice, relaxed 3/8ths with 2 other fillies….Minds Eyes (by Macho Uno) and Silent Poetry (by After Market). They each did a very ‘professional’ job for this stage of their training. The clockers got them in 38:80. John was quite pleased with the manner in which these fillies accomplished their lessons yesterday! YIPPEE!
There are so many details to be attended to at this stage of a horse’s career and development! Each of these 2 year olds has already spent time at a training center prior to coming to Barn 55…learning “the basics”. These lessons start with learning how to accept tack to responding to cues from the rider and how to successfully navigate the turns, the straight-away, and change leads.
Once at Barn 55, MY JOHN starts with each horse having a basic idea of what to do….to expanding upon these skills and introducing others that are required to be a race horse. Lots of gate work is necessary. They must also learn to change gears…when to slow down, be patient, handle other horses around them while running…and of course, how to pick up speed to finish strong.
As MY JOHN says, there are lots of BABY STEPS (no pun intended) to be achieved along the way to getting a horse ready for one’s first race…and hopefully the start of a long and successful career.
From all reports, ALL of the babies did a great job yesterday. I’m sending each of them a HIGH HOOF! Cheers to all…..and keep up the good work!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z

Hi Zenny: What fun it was to watch the training video of the babies. “E” is really beautiful. Looks like she is prancing a little there. Thank you John for the video. You and Dottie are terrific and very much appreciated.
On a separate note, I am so sorry to hear about AK. I read that Rajiv Maragh received a seven-day suspension for careless riding and for initiating the incident. Only seven days! That’s too bad. The suspension should have been A LOT longer. It’s bad enough when a horse gets injured–but to injury a horse because of careless riding is all uncalled for. Not only is poor AK hurt and in pain, what about all of the spectators who were looking forward to seeing AK race in the Haskell and maybe even the Travers. This incident could even have an impact on the attendance at these races. What a disappointment, and it’s all because of reckless riding.
Zenny, we are so happy your John kept you safe. Take care. We love you Zenny!!

Love and Kisses Zenny.

Dear Z and Dottie – Loved the post today and all the comments. I have E in my virtual stable and also saw her work video. Very nice filly. I would love to know how a person can go visit Barn 55? Is their a website e mail where you can request a visit? I’ve been to Hollywood Park many times but only to the races. I love to go to early morning workouts at Del Mar ( close to where I live in Carlsbad, Ca) and watch them – I saw you when you came down for the Clement Hirsh! If any of you have visited I’d love to know how to get a visitor’s pass. It would be so nice to get a behind the scenes look at your former home.
Thank you for all the great information on training.

Whoops ! Wanted to mention I received my Jockey Calendar with YOUR MIKEY in fine form. It came with a complimentary 8-10 photo of YOU. LADIES, IT’S QUITE A NICE CALENDA FOR 2012.

@Trina Nagele and Kathy Kimber-Even though I was the one who contacted Mr. Dwyre, the idea came from Diane S who deserves the credit for thinking of the idea. I hope something happens as a result.@Kathy Kimber I have never really gotten over Corrie’s (my old hound) death. Bless all who have gone through this. @Judy Berube, Lisa G, AJ from CA and signofthetiimes–I have long held the opinion that, when an athlete suffers an injury and misses some action, that the individual who caused the injury should be suspended for as long as the injured athlete remains on the sidelines. This should be true for all sports, including horse racing. Maybe then this type of thing will stop.@Lisa G-Ferdinand’s story is so sad. I can still see Shoemaker and Whittingham in the winner’s circle at the Kentucky Derby and how happy they were. Never again should this happen.@Peggy One–interesting observation on Zenyatta and the medications she received.

Michael Blowen! Great that you posted here. Post more often. I love to hear how the horses are doing. I donate to you every 2 weeks now (under William Higgins). Many of us have a big soft spot for Old Friends. I never would have known about it if I hadn’t heard that Jerry and Ann Moss supported it. You do such marvelous work there.
Terry Crow
@Sharon Call-Thanks for the kind words. @Kennedys in San Diego–I think the stewards should revisit their decision. Stuff like this cannot be tolerated.@Judy Berube–Bet the horse heavy. You’ll laugh all the way to the bank.

Well said. It is sad that jealousy causes things
Like this to happen. One would think in the jockey business
That the jocks have to have a tough skin and move on
When owners and trainers want a change. Not take it
Personally. It is very hard to do, but all jocks speak of
It and how it is part of the game.

@ Terry Crow: Was Rajiv Maragh AK’s original jockey?
Signofthetimes
@Judy B
Wholeheartedly agree. I’d like them to not let
Him ride professionally in TB racing. Yes, it was
Amazing AK was able to hold JV up, right himself
And muster an explosive close although late. He
Really is an awesome horse.

Good night, Zenyatta
are ya all zzzzzzzzz’s, ha :)
Your diary segments really give a horseracing/all matters horses green horn a good education and always served with a high hoof :) :) :)
I had no idea how much prep work and how many people are involved in the schooling process of a race horse. There’s just a lot of skill required from both, the human and the horse. And you’re one of the smartest cookies, and your little one will be just as fab, you watch. Time for 40 winks and dreams of mints

@Linda J
Robbie Alvarado or Albarado was AK original jock
JV and team valor gave him some of the derby
Winnings to appease his upset.
Linda in NJ
@Signofthetimes said: Was it Rajiv Maragh that was suppose to ride AK in the Kentucky Derby?
Linda in NJ
@Signofthetimes said: Thanks. That’s right!! That was really nice of JV to share his winnings with Robbie.

@Judy from CA
Last I heard “E” is about 16 or 16.2. Maybe those
Of you who have seen her in person (lucky lucky
That you are) know more. She still looks like a baby
Equine.

@Michael Blowen: Thank you for your post.

How much weight have you gained so far? When is your next sonogram? How are you feeling? Is your appetite good? Don’t forget, you’re eating for two now. So sorry about Animal Kingdom’s injury. Hope things will get better soon. Love you, Z

To Patti in Carlsbad:
You are a lucky girl. You got to visit Z’s Shrine and pet E too. That’s great. Hugs, J.B.
To Terry Crow:
After my bad choices in the Belmont, I’ll have to donate blood first. I like your idea of equal time served for the crime and the recovery of the athlete. Hugs, J.B.

Zenny, I love you more and more! And baby more, and more, and mostest!

Signofthetimes:
The other horse in that Belmont debacle that I think will shine is Mucho Macho Man. If he ever gets some good racing luck, (losing shoes, getting intentionally bumped) I think he will be very, very good. He was three years old on the 15th and he’s still growing into his frame. I love his determination, heart and courage. Hugs, J.B.
Andrea from Germany
Morning Zenny, I often watch Johns videos on youtube so I saw “E” breezing with another horse. Love those videos and Johns comments on the scene. Hope you`re fine and gaining weight. Love you Zenny. And please keep us in touch.

Dear Z Fans,
Enjoyed all the great posts, discussions and links today. Hugs, J.B.
Dear Z:
Goodnight and sweet baby dreams. Love you, Judy and Russ
Vicki B.
Of course we know you’re eating for two! I hope “Wink Wink” is doing well, and increasingly feeling right at home, all snuggled in there.

Zenyatta, thank you so much for explaining the thoroughbred training process. Was dismayed to read that Animal Kingdom is out for the summer due to an injury caused at the start of the Belmont Race. Take it easy and stay healthy.
Terry Crow
@Linda in NJ-Maragh rode Mucho Macho Man in the Derby and Preakness. He was replaced for the Belmont by Dominguez, an action he apparently did not care for. Robbie Albarado was set to ride Animal Kingdom in the Derby but had an injury at the last minute and was replaced by Velazquez. Maragh should be suspended a minimum of 60 days.

@ Charlotte Farmer: To start a new candle for another cause, take any candle already lit. When you get to the box with the group name already there, edit the group name to whatever you want to name yours… I hope this helps!
Judy (Maass) Gadwood (CA)
@ Charlotte Farmer: CORRECTION! Take an “unlit” candle. Sorry!!

@ ALL – I’ll find out how many hands Ebby is this weekend and share, if Dottie doesn’t post the info before then ;-)
