Good Morning All,
Yesterday’s results at Royal Ascot were quite interesting. FRANKEL, the 3 year old colt by Galileo out of Kind owned and bred by Juddmonte Farms, won again! This time his victory was by 3/4 of a length. He is still undefeated…7 for 7…which I can say from personal experience…is not an easy thing to accomplish. My sincere congratulations to FRANKEL and all of his connections!
GOLDIKOVA ran a very solid race and finished 2nd losing by just 3/4 of a length. Then, MY MIKIE finished 4th on his mount in the 2 year old stake. While in England, Mike also did a very nice interview which is currently being played on THE BLOODHORSE website. You might enjoy viewing it if you have a free moment!
Speaking of yesterday’s races at this historic race course, I wanted to share with you a photo of the human FRANKEL taken during the 1985 Royal Ascot Meet. Here he is, the real Bobby FRANKEL pictured on the left, attending the races with his friends Phil Werkmeister and Richard McCormick. Ann Eberhardt sent us this photo.
As you may know, the dress code on these racing dates is very specific. It supports a history of tradition. Formal day dress is required. Gentlemen are required to wear either black or grey morning dress, including a waistcoat with a top hat! Just imagine, all of these years later, we have a photo of Bobby taken at Royal Ascot…the same place where yesterday a horse named for him won such a prestigious race to remain undefeated. This is absolutely TOO CUTE!
I can only imagine that Bobby would be quite pleased…and so very, very proud!
On another note, in relation to American Racing, they have a HUGE PICK 6 CARRY-OVER today in New York. I gather this was somewhat aided by the results of the BELMONT! I know lots of people are studying their FORMS, CHARTS, PAPERS etc. this morning hoping to handicap all of the winners!
I better go study a bit myself! HOOVES CROSSED for all of you to GET LUCKY!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z
Pam Zacek,
Good for Frankel, Im glad he did it again, and that your Mike got 4th, he placed anyway, or almost, heck, I heard that race, is really, good, my ancestors, talked about this race some what. Another fun day of racing, I hope Saratoga, is good this year, would love to go and see some of those races, well, stay well, Zen, you and your baby, get those Veggies in you, and have a great night.

Dear Z and Dottie:
Nice photo of Bobby Frankel and friends. He was an outstanding trainer and loved his horses. Hope you are well Z. Love you and love to all of you, Judy and Russ

@ Terry Crow from post #272, I KNOW we’ll see our darling animals again on the other side – I believe the love bonds between humans and animals are just as strong as those between humans and matter just as much.
Also, from post #272, that video of Little Silver Charm at Old Friends was soooo much fun to watch! What a cutie-pie he is.
Oh, and Zenyatta, I hope you realize you are responsible for the big turn-out at the Belmont and the higher TV ratings because usually when there’s no Triple Crown hopeful running in the Belmont, interest kind of lags, but all 3 of the TC races seemed to generate more interest this year… so it has to be you!

Hi my sweet Zenny & all the “Z Gang” —
Well, Ascot was exciting again today, although one of my favourites, So You Think, lost to a good colt ridden by Frankie Detorri. The trainer Aidan O’Brien stated that he felt that he was to blame: So You Think came to him only recently from Australia, where he had won the Cox Plate two years in a row. O’Brien said that he does everything so easily in Ireland that he may have not pushed him hard enough in his training. Then he apologized to the colt’s fans! Shortly thereafter, Dettori was removed from competition for 10 days for over-whipping the winner…he hit Rewilding 24 times in the last few strides. I do like this about British racing — they have VERY severe penalties for “horse abuse.” Also picked up this interesting fact: by moving the starting gate as close as possible to one side of the turf, the advantage to horses who draw low numbers is actually cut down. The turf @ Ascot is wide enough that by shifting the gate, your higher numbers end up only in the middle of the turf and not to the extreme outside…..
THE VAULT launched what will be a 2 or 3-part series called The Power of X: Rags, Rachel and Zenyatta, looking at the variables in becoming a great broodmare. Here’s the link:

Bobby Frankel was one of a kind. I always enjoyed listening to him. A very smart man. He is missed. Dottie was his right and left hands. He relied on her for alot. Having a wonderful horse named after Bobby Frankel is very fitting. Ascot is a hoot. They really do it up over there. Glad Mike Smith got to ride there. Another great memory for him!

Thank you for your great post and the link. Hugs, J.B.
Z Fans:

Hi Zenyatta, finally have time to write a note. I had the luckiest Belmont ever with a WPS bet on Ruler on Ice AND Stay Thirsty. Also WPS on Mission Approved. What a long shot day! But, Shackleford was my favorite horse. I didn’t want him to have to run in the Belmont because it was just too long for him and I knew he would run his heart out (just like you). I know he will be awesome the rest of the summer in shorter races. I bet for Stay Thirsty because it was time for him and Mike Repole is such a standup guy for never putting his ego before his horses and taking such good care of Mo. Just like your Team, right Z? Anyway I love you and miss seeing you and hope you are having a wonderful summer.

Congratulations surely to all those doing so well at the Royal Ascot and what an exciting event for sure.
Love that pic that has Bobby Frankel in his top hat, looks pretty darn dandy, if I say so myself! Thanks for being here for everyone Zenyatta, I know how much you are appreciated. Thankyou for helping me get through some difficult times and I have more not so good right now and you help inspire me and give me hope. You sparkle and shine brighter than any star up above! Love you lots and sending you hugs Zenyatta!

Wow, Zenny, your Mikie did a great job and did you hear him still bragging about you? blush, blush :)

@DJ – thanks for the painted pony link – got to cast my vote.
@ Susan in TN – saw you posted today but no updates on Lou – I take it that he is stable? (fingers crossed).
@Terry Crow (from a previous post) my large animal vet said he envisions a section of heaven dedicated just to all our faithful 4 legged friends. Somehow that always gives me comfort when I loose one.

Dear Max:
Just watched your link. Saw the video yesterday as well. What a great heart and determination this colt has. Love him. Hugs, J.B.

I too hope fans do not pressure Princess Ebby to much, she is her own girl..just a very lucky girl to have the Queen has her sister. I know John won’t pressure her as “another Zenyatta”, but is excited and happy to have Zenyatta’s sister to see every day, and then Zenyatta’s baby. Too Cute Mikey…Hope I will ride the baby..omgoodness. New post and so much excitment, videos and I loved watching the race yesterday…the men were extremely classy…I like the coats and the top hats, elegant I say. Frankel is too beautiful, so muscular..glad he won..no surprise. Seeing Goldikova give it her all brought tears to my eyes..she is quite a lady.

I wanted this to be a separate entry from yours truly….to say HOW SPECIAL is this photo of Bobby Frankel @ Ascot? How terrific of Anne Eberhardt to send this along to Dottie. I just think that it’s beautiful to have this great thoroughbred carrying Bobby forward in our memories each & every time he runs. The goddess Epona is surely smiling….. I will always remember Bobby Frankel with Sightseek, a filly he just adored. I’m certain he cared about all of his horses — and he sure trained some great ones. But Bobby & Sightseek ….. they really had something special.
Lisa g
@Terry Crow: NO, no, not a all creepy..that is loving, passionate, healthy and so sweet. You brought the tears to my eyes. I had three boys, one which I always said, I gave birth to this one. People would look at me so funny, but he was my canine baby boy and I miss him so. I love my little girl, she is my life..but this one baby boy, I will be happy when I can hold him again. Lisa g.

@ Trina thank you for the prayers :)
@ Kari thank you for thinking of me :)
@ Little Silver Charm you are too cute :)
Max
@judy berube. Thanks for the video of E. She is a big girl. She looks like she is having some fun with her training like Z. I hope that she does well. I like her dark coat.
victoria racimo
thanks Z — for the udate info on Bobby Frankel — he has been such a powerful influence in your sport and now in his passing he remains a powerful influence. He even remembered Old Friends, one of your fav charities. Have a nice evening — are you resting?
D Franz
I love your info about the other horses and racing history and lore. You are still the best. Frankel smankel. ha ha

@Cynthia H: I left you a reponse on #272 while catching up, and thought I was leaving it here. So Sorry. I am so glad people remember the great JO Tobin, I would have done the same if I were in your shoes, that is how wonderful he was. Did you tell your Doctor what you did? In 272, I also told that a few years ago I researched him and he passed away at age 20 in Mexico. I still miss him.
Lisa g
@Sharon Call, I guess right now I could say for these reasons I don’t mind being an oldster..JO Robin, Ruffian, Secretariat and Queen Zenyatta in my lifetime..how much greater could it get.
Molly
Loved the Mike Smith interview, especially the part where he said that he hoped to ride Zenyatta’s baby some time. Hope Mike gets that invite from Australia. Zenyatta, I know that you were thrilled to see him. You can tell that he really misses you as all of us do as well. Sweet Dreams.
Cynthia H.
@ Lisa g; How kind. Thank you for taking the time to re-do your nice comment. I think I remember that J.O. Tobin started his stud career at Spendthrift (?), but gradually lost track of him over the years. I was always afraid that I would discover that he had come to a sticky end. Thank you so much for the information. I hope that somehow J.O. knew that for one shining day, he was king. (P.S. I did ‘fess up to my doctor, and he hurt me bad!).
Lisa g
I did it, I lit candles for the great Barbaro and Eight Belles. That is all I can say about it.
Lisa g
@Cynthia H: I bet you did get in trouble, but it was worth it, right. I know I would have done the same thing. I was glad to hear he lived to be 20, tech was not like it is now, and I always wondered what happened to him.
Lisa g
Candle Room for JO Tobin is Tobin, if anyone wants to light one for him. I am so glad Judy posted that website, I love it. It is wonderful.
