Good Morning All,
Yesterday’s results at Royal Ascot were quite interesting. FRANKEL, the 3 year old colt by Galileo out of Kind owned and bred by Juddmonte Farms, won again! This time his victory was by 3/4 of a length. He is still undefeated…7 for 7…which I can say from personal experience…is not an easy thing to accomplish. My sincere congratulations to FRANKEL and all of his connections!
GOLDIKOVA ran a very solid race and finished 2nd losing by just 3/4 of a length. Then, MY MIKIE finished 4th on his mount in the 2 year old stake. While in England, Mike also did a very nice interview which is currently being played on THE BLOODHORSE website. You might enjoy viewing it if you have a free moment!
Speaking of yesterday’s races at this historic race course, I wanted to share with you a photo of the human FRANKEL taken during the 1985 Royal Ascot Meet. Here he is, the real Bobby FRANKEL pictured on the left, attending the races with his friends Phil Werkmeister and Richard McCormick. Ann Eberhardt sent us this photo.
As you may know, the dress code on these racing dates is very specific. It supports a history of tradition. Formal day dress is required. Gentlemen are required to wear either black or grey morning dress, including a waistcoat with a top hat! Just imagine, all of these years later, we have a photo of Bobby taken at Royal Ascot…the same place where yesterday a horse named for him won such a prestigious race to remain undefeated. This is absolutely TOO CUTE!
I can only imagine that Bobby would be quite pleased…and so very, very proud!
On another note, in relation to American Racing, they have a HUGE PICK 6 CARRY-OVER today in New York. I gather this was somewhat aided by the results of the BELMONT! I know lots of people are studying their FORMS, CHARTS, PAPERS etc. this morning hoping to handicap all of the winners!
I better go study a bit myself! HOOVES CROSSED for all of you to GET LUCKY!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

What a terrific photo of Bobby Frankel! It gave me my best smile of the day. What a fabulous trainer he was! I can think of no one more worthy to assume his mantle, than John Shirreffs. For both of them, the welfare of the horse absolutely, positively ranks first, above all other concerns. What higher honor, than to have a great horse bear one’s name? Maybe someday, another great horse by the name of “Shirreffs” will race undefeated at Ascot, or in our own classics!

The guys all look so elegant! Thanks for the photo of Bobby Frankel.

@Sheri – I think those who have and are logged in to WordPress accounts, automatically get their WP avatars loaded, on submitting comments. I think this Diary is a WordPress blog. But I haven’t tested my hypothesis.

@Trina Nagele: As did yours. Please pass the communal handkie!

Zenyatta,
Thanks for the Ascot picture. Gee, Bethaney Frankel looks just like her dad.. So what have you and the gals been up to.. Stay happy & healthy Big Mama. :):)

It’s so nice to see Bobby Frankel looking so young and handsome. By all accounts, he really cared about the horses he trained which means a lot to me. I’ve heard how Juddmonte wanted to honor him with a really good horse. They sure found the right one! I know some are being a bit disparaging about Frankel since he didn’t win by daylight again, but I think the sustained run he put in to win was pretty special. Goldikova was terrific, too, even if she couldn’t quite hold off Canford Cliffs. Can you imagine the BC Mile with her, Canford Cliffs and Frankel? That would be some amazing race. I’m glad to hear you are doing well, Zenyatta. I think of you every day and wish you happiness and a healthy foal for you to mother next year.

@Sharon Call — I was notified by email — Equibase Virtual Stable. I have not seen video of the work. Hope that John Shirreffs posts it.

Thank you Zenny and Dottie for sharing the picture. Mr. Frankel looks terrific in that get up. Yes, he must be proud of Frankel’s wins. Let’s pray there will be more wins and for his continued good health! Hugs, Marilu

Zenny-thank you for the race updates!I didn’t know about the dress code. What a great photograph! You are so supportive of your fellow racehorses-and very modest, too. It is storming here. I hope your weather is better in Kentucky. Hope you and The Girls had a great day! Love you.
@Trina: Thank you for the info on Bobby Frankel. I knew he was important to Dottie but I didn’t know why.
@Sharon Call: Havre de Grace is a “friend” of mine on FB. She is running well!

Hi Dear Zenny, Once again I learned another history lesson when it comes to the fine sport of horseracing. The photo of Bobby and his “peeps” is very nice. They look like the perfect gentlemen I’m sure they were. So Frankel is 7 for 7…amazing! But, you my Queen, were 19 1/2 out of 20 ;-) In fact I think you actually won that last one …that’s how I saw it and I was there! Hugs and a High Hoof to you. Hope you are feeling well…you certainly look great!

Another wonderful photo and an uplifting story of man and horse.
In this case, it seems that Frankel bears this name because of some defining quality in this horse which reminded the Prince of his friend. Names are not given idly to horses by those who love them. Frankel is not just any horse. Like Zenyatta, he is a superior athlete, who may be the greatest horse of his generation. According to his trainer, Frankel is complicated because he is at once both hot tempered and nice. Above all like Zenyatta and Bobby Frankel, this horse is a winner.

Hi sweet Z! Congrats to Frankel; a wonderful accomplishment!! You Z did the near to impossible in your racing. Memories are everything!! When one leaves this earth, it is nice to be fondly remembered. It is an honor to have a race horse named after you, a great trainer.
I am busy packing up for a Canadian fishing trip for a week. I would rather be in Kentucky visiting the horse farms such as Lane’s End. But once in a while, you go with the flow. I would rather be holding carrots and peppermint candy for you & others instead of worms to catch a fish! Z, that is what you fish with or other ugly things. I will go to the bloodhorse now. I love you with all my heart! love with 2 kisses on your soft nose; one for baby Z

THANKS FOR THE PICTURE AND ATTIRE CODE. MOST OF US ARE SO LAID BACK THAT THE DERBY IS OUR DRESS UP TIME. I ENJOY THE BEAUTIFUL MORE THAN ANY BEAUTIFUL PERSON. I DO NOTICE THOSE WONDERFUL JOCKEYS. THEY ARE SO AMAZING.

Hi, Z,
I know you will be commenting on the upcoming Vanity H this Saturday at Hollywood Park. Much comment has been made that this will be the first time in 4 years we won’t see Zenyatta winning the Vanity! You are sorely missed and I sure miss seeing you on the track. A couple of your old buddies will be running, along with Blind Luck will be Switch and St. Trinians! Who will you be rooting for?
So much fun readng your diary and your fans’ comments. Appreciate so much all the time and effort I know that goes into keeping us up do date on our favorite mare. Your John is also posting some new training videos with your little sis, Eblouissante and she is looking so good! I am very excited about her and looking forward to when she gets to the starting gate!
Big hugs! Your friend, Ann Maree

Hey did anyone notice that little sister “E” had her first breeze for John Wed. A nice comfortable 3/8 in 38.4. The beginning of many more!!!! Imagine the pressure on this gal!!

I see Mike Smith said he saw you just before the Derby….I wonder how you reacted to him. Was it like…oh no…I am retired…I do not want to train anymore…or if you were excited to see him. I wish we could have seen a picture of you seeing him. We will always think of you and Mike as a team!!
Judy (Maass) Gadwood ~ CA
@ Jack W. ~ my thoughts, too. I hope not too much pressure from the fans… let Big E just be herself! Zenny would want it that way, right!?

Here is an excellent extended video of Frankel’s win at Royal Ascot. This horse is pure class.

As we move through the summer racing season, we temper our exuberance for new (Frankel)and even some older racing faces (Goldikova, Gio Ponti)with a nostalgia for the treasured years of anticipating and seeing you race and dance, Zenyatta. We miss you so, Queen Z. Thank you and John Shirreffs and especially Dottie, as well as the Moses, Mike Smith and all of Team Z for keeping us in touch with you. It is a joy to think of you and hear something from or about you almost every day.
