HAPPY BELMONT DAY!
Today is such a fun day of racing! There are so many quality races taking place around the country this afternoon headed by the 143rd running of the BELMONT.
From all reports, it is still rainy and wet in New York. It is supposed to rain until early afternoon and then level off to a 40-50% chance of rain until early evening. The track surface, both turf and dirt, at this time is listed as ‘good’. Of course, all of this can change at any moment….weather being weather! Let’s hope all is comfortable for everyone!
The Belmont Stakes runs at approximately 6:35 East Coast Time. The horses usually leave the barn area to walk to the paddock about 30 minutes or so prior to post time. Thus, today’s 12 entrants will be leaving their stalls around 6ish and head to the paddock for the race. It is such an exciting time for everyone! Just imagine, you are participating in a TRIPLE CROWN RACE. Then, the ANTICIPATION of the race and how it will develop is so much fun. Racing is so EXCITING! My best wishes to ALL 12 of today’s Belmont starters. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!
I’m thinking I will sit back, relax, and enjoy watching all of the great races today. In looking over the entries, I see ZAZU’S friend, Turbulent Descent, is running in the ACORN today at 2:34 NY TIME. Then at 5:39, my dear friend, Gio Ponti, is running in the Manhattan Stakes for the 3rd year in a row! I have such great memories of running with Gio Ponti in the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Classic. What a guy! I really want to wish him well.
If you are not going to the race track today, these events…and many other races…will be on television. I know MY TEAM at Barn 55 and my friends at Lane’s End will be checking in on the updates, races and results all afternoon.
HRTV and TVG will be showing many of the day’s activities. Then a channel named VERSUS will be showing several of the stakes starting at 2 eastern time. At 5, the programing switches to NBC for the balance of the NY Stakes and the Belmont.
VERSUS is a relatively new channel that is going to carry quite a few races today and in the future. On your computer, if you go to NBCSPORTS, then click on TV LISTINGS, they will provide you with the TV schedules for today. If you put in your zip code, they will tell you the exact channels you need to go to in order to find the races you want to see on both VERSUS and NBC. This is really good to know. We have DISH and now we know exactly what channel to program in so we are ALL SET and READY TO WATCH GREAT RACING!
Which horses do you think will win today? Have fun handicapping!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

To Terry Crow:
Your welcome. After reading that article and seeing the video, can’t believe AK righted himself and Johnny V. stayed on. You’re right, the Stewards should take the necessary actions. On the animal shows, don’t want to see that much “reality”. We really miss the TV comedies like All in the Family, Barney Miller, Maude, The Jeffersons, etc. We thought they were entertaining and funny. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Kari Bussell:
Thank you so much for that link to John’s video. Don’t you love how he treats his Team and his horses. He is so pleasant, kind and funny with them, and excels as a trainer. The horses and everybody around him are very fortunate. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Z Friends: Lou is better-let me start with that! Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers from all parts of the country (and Montreal!)-my daughter can’t believe the kindness shown to Lou and her. She was so touched! I’ve been telling her how amazing the people are on this site, but now she has seen for herself.I hope I don’t miss anyone, but our heartfelt thanks to Barbara Wood, Judy Berube, Eveline, Marshall(girl’s name), Karen Gogue, Pamela Hill, Shari Volz, Sharon Call, Dawn Conrad, Terry Crow, Carole, Kathy Kimber, Peggy(N), Trina Nagele, Charlotte Farmer, Abigail from Montreal and Jericho(!), Maggie N, Sarah Powell, Kim S, Anne from Paramount and Margie <3
Lou still has a head tilt to the right, along with facial paralysis on the right. Besides the corticosteroid, he is on doxycycline to cover any tick-borne illness (although to my daughter's knowledge, he hasn't had any tick bites-but who knows?) and artificial tears since he can't blink. Also, he is on Benadryl and Pepcid. He is pretty bright and going out and trotting around-chased the cat :)- but I guess the most worrisome problem right now is the fact that he is having trouble keeping anything down. Now, at the best of times, Lou has a VERY sensitive stomach and is on hypoallergenic food-also has environmental allergies- and he is regurgitating up his stomach contents periodically. I'm just keeping him quiet after his medicine and very small meals and he does keep things down initially-it's later that he runs into trouble, so hopefully, he is getting full benefit from his medicine. My daughter (Beth) did fly to Denver last night, as Lou is better and the exam is only given once a year. Plus, Lou and Maggie(her cat) have stayed with "the grandparents" before and are right at home here-believe me!
Judy B: good thought on the Lyme's disease-it is relatively rare down here but there are other tick-borne diseases that can cause paralysis. I need to go fix Lou's food, so I'll finish later!
Barbara Wood
@Susan in TN–thanks so much for the hopeful update. We will all still care and continue to pray. Also prayers for Beth to be able to concentrate on her exam–it would be hard for me!

I watched the Belmont race and it was great. I love all the coverage.

Better get to sleep early tonight because “GOLDIKOVA” goes in the first race at Royal Ascot tomorrow, 06-14-11, post time 9:30 am est. In the 2nd race I look for the 6 yr old Australian Sprinter “OVERDOSE” to return to his old form. What can I say about the 3rd race, “FRANKEL” out for a little exercise. Pinch me, are you sure this is Tuesday?
.
A little update on the Women’s Race Caller Contest from post #270. The contest is down to 2 gals and the final calls will be at Ascot on July 24th. LML
There is only one woman race caller in the world and she is in Austrailia..

My sweet Z! Being up at my friends home near the Dells, we headed into the Dells for the “Taste of the Dells”. Many artist and craftsmen have their booths. We are just horsing around and enjoying. We will get back by 1:00 for the fillies racing. I wish all 12 the best luck but I am leaning toward wanting Stay Thirsty to win!! It is an exciting day!! Just think of all the races you have won. WOW!
love with two kisses on your soft nose.
