Happy Friday to All~
I can’t believe another week has gone by…and so quickly! Lots of different things have happened during the course of this week and I’ve heard lots of good news. We’ve certainly had fabulous health updates for several people including our friend, Dawn Conrad! All of this news is so, so special!
Remember the HAT GAME I used to play with MY JOHN? Well, apparently it is still going strong at Barn 55. I guess because MY JOHN always wears a baseball type cap (and I do mean always) that the horses he works with each day just love to play with these hats.
Yesterday afternoon, while Mr. Commons was outside grazing, relaxing and enjoying the California sun, he decided it was his turn to play my game. Bruce was there with him! He let Bruce sit on the saw horse bench, scratch his neck, hug him and play with him. In return, Mr. Commons decided he would ‘tease Bruce’ and started playing with his cap! Within moments, Mr. C was playing the HAT GAME with him…and totally took off his cap and handed it back to Bruce!
It was all TOO CUTE! Everyone at Barn 55 was laughing…and Mr. Commons was really proud of himself for getting Bruce’s cap. I know this feeling. I loved to play this game with MY JOHN.
There are so many FUN THINGS like this one that happen each day in our lives. The experiences are so sweet, yet extraordinary, and most importantly they make us LAUGH! I’ve been told that there is a very famous saying which describes what I’m trying to say…..TAKE TIME TO SMELL THE ROSES! It is really so much fun to truly appreciate the joy and beauty of these special moments.
Lucky US!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

I just love the pictures and the stories you tell us. One of the best things about horses is the personality they all have the is unique to them. Some like to play with hats :), some like to lick you until you cant take it anymore like my horse but all of them make us smile and feel like this is heaven on earth. The people who get to work with these wonderful animals is so lucky and I wish I was blessed to have a job like that. Thank you for sharing with us again as you do so well. you really should write a book!

@Teresa E., a couple of years ago, Zenyatta’s dam Vertigineux was purchased by Coolmore interests and now resides at Ashford Stud. Zenyatta’s sire Street Cry stands at Darley. Unfortunately, Coolmore and Darley do not get along. Coolmore mares don’t go to Darley stallions and vice versa. Unfortunately, this means that Zenyatta will never have a full sibling, nor will Eblouissante, for that matter.

The pretty Mr. Commons is definately TOO CUTE!!!

Good luck to everyone and the horses tomorrow.

HORSES MUST HAVE A SINCE OF HUMOR ABOUT CAPS. THE FIRST YEAR MY MARE,BLACK MAGIC, WAS AT OUR LOCAL FAIR, SHE KEPT PUSHING THIS MANS HAT OFF. HE WAS SQUATED WITH HIS BACK TO HER STALL DOOR. HE GOT TIRED OF PUTTING HIS CAP BACK ON SO HE MORE AWAY FROM HER STALL. THE FUN DID NOT STOP, HOWEVER, A LADY WAS ON A STAGE SINGING NEAR THE HORSE BARN. EVERY TIME SHE WOULD RAISE HER VOICE HIGH, SO WOULD MAGICS NICKER. WHAT A SHOW THAT MARE PUT ON THAT NIGHT. LOVE TO ALL SHERRY D. WV.

Mr. Commons is a very good looking horse, if I say so myself! Love to see him playing like that! Too cute!
Glad to hear of the good checkups with you and with Dawn!
Take care! xoxo

Totally enjoyed the pictures. Great to see horses interact with humans in a playful way. Zenny, it must have been fun being at Barn 55. There’s time for work and play there.

Hi, Zen,
The dapples certainly do remind me of you. As I recall, I think it was Harmonious that looked a lot like you, except she wasn’t as tall. There were a couple of videos and pictures that showed the two of you side-by-side, and the resemblance was certainly striking.
Yes, it is nice to stop and smell the roses! I find in my own life that even when I’m having a bad day or things just seem to not be going right, I can still find something to smile about and find a little joy. Many times, those moments come when I open my computer, and there you are, splashed on my computers’ opening screens! I look at your beautiful photo or a video and life feels manageable again!
So happy you are having good days and things with your “baby bump” are going well.
Absolutely loved your John’s video of Eblouissante in training! She is awesome and she looks like she really can run and knows what that’s all about! Looking forward to many more videos of her as well as John’s other horses.
Big hugs. Your friend, Ann Maree

The picture of Mr Commons and Bruce is precious! And Margaret…I so totally agree. Z had come to that time of her life where her next calling, and maybe it’s the most important of all, is to contribute to the next generation. If the fates continue to smile, we’ll all have plenty to cheer about!
Gigi
Mr. Commons is amazing. Thanks for keeping us posted, Z, on all that is happening in your life and at the barn. Your an awesome “spokesmare” for the sport and the equine world in general!!!

Oh, Zen, you always make my day better. Thank you. I think both Mr. Commons AND Bruce look handsome, and as if they’re having fun… I want to thank you – (and, of course, the friends-with-thumbs who do your typing!) – for always having a positive comment, and for reminding us all of daily wisdom and blessings.
Teresa
Mr. Commons is anything but common. Love you Z. Take care of u and baby. :)))

Hi Zenny Moss-Shirreffs-Mario-Smith-Bernardini-Coleman! You are so right beautiful girl…ENJOY life and take the time to smell the roses!!
Robin
Mr.Commons is so cute! Zenny would love to see a pic of you with your growing tummy! Or any new picture would do! I save all of your pictures to my computer and I have quite a few! Love you lots!

I’m like a kid waiting for the race tomorrow – Hope Macho Man can keep his shoes on – And hope everyone has a safe trip – Have a great weekend Lady Z

Hi Zenny: I’m glad to see that Mr. Commons is playing your game!
I agree with Margaret that there’s no sense in saying repeatedly that you wish Zenyatta would run again. The fact is–horses risk their lives every time they run. Look at what happened to Eight Belles, Go for Wand, Ruffian….and more. We are just very lucky that Zenyatta retired sound. Race horses have a short tenure as competitors because the wear and tear and risks are so huge that it is highly unusual for a horse to run as many seasons as Zenny did. It’s testament to how well she was taken care of and to sheer LUCK that we get to enjoy the rest of her life with her :)
Mary
Yes Z….it is the small and sometimes simple things in life are the most fun…like the hat game. That is just “too cute”……..hope you have a great weekend….I know I am glad it is the weekend. Hugs to you Z….
Terry Crow
@Theresa E-I see no harm in wishing that Zenyatta was still racing. There are a lot of us that would like to see her in action again. However, wishing will not make it so.@Judy Berube, Kathy Kimber and Laura J-Left a note for you at the end of the last diary entry.
Judy
Zenny, do you still play the “hat game” at LE? I’ve noticed many of your friends there do wear baseball caps… just wondering..
Allen
Mr. C is one handsome young man, but he doesn’t compare to you Z. I also agree with Margaret, I am thankful that you got to retire sound. Now you can enjoy every day God has given you on this earth. Before long you will have a Little Z to teach the hat trick to. Have a great weekend Queen Z, and enjoy the Belmont.
Kelsie
Awww! That’s adorable, Zenny. Once I had my sweater sitting on the fence and my OTTB,Grylls, would keep picking it up and dropping it on the ground every time I would put it back. I just love the things you horses do, they always make me laugh! Reading your diaries always make my day so much better! Miss seeing you run, Z! Best wishes to you and your Team!!
Lauren
Dear Zenny – Because of you I have developed such a love of horses. Horses are amazing animals — so intelligent, so loving and so special. I am so excited for the Belmont Stakes on Saturday. It is still pretty warm here in the New York area so I am hoping that it cools down. I have to admit that I am a little sweet on Shackleford, so I am hoping that he does well. He is a handsome fellow. Have a blessed day beautiful girl. Hugs and kisses.
