Happy Monday Everyone!
The summer season is upon us now and the weather is getting quite warm and very cozy! The advertisements on both radio and television keep commenting about THE LATEST FASHION ACCESSORIES one needs for SUMMER!
I have never been much of a shopper. MY TEAM always did this for ME. Now Lane’s End is also helping to provide me with my daily essentials.
As you know, I am outside quite a bit and love the time I spend strolling in my paddock. At this time of the year, while I’m outdoors, so are the ‘darling little flies and bugs that come with the summer season’. As a result, I have been outfitted with MY NEW SUMMER ‘MUST HAVE’ ACCESSORY…A FLY MASK!
This MASK (which I am modeling for you in the above photo) is really very comfortable. It fits nicely around my head. The material around my eyes is rather elevated…so the mesh portion of the mask itself is not touching my skin at all. The purpose of this item is 2-fold. Firstly, and most importantly, it helps to keep the ’adorable bugs’ from wanting to be on part of my face or by my eyes while I’m outside grazing and relaxing. Secondly, the fly mask serves as a nice screening aid from the sun for my face and eyes. In this respect, it is much like a pair of sunglasses for a human.
My pals and I are all adorning our MASKS these days whenever we go outside. At first, we looked at each other rather quizzically…to see what “this thing was’ our friends were wearing. As you know, horses don’t use mirrors when trying on something new…so when we saw each other for the first time with this ‘mask’ on…it was rather different. Once we realized everything was fine…and who was who, it was all A-OK! As a matter of fact, we all decided we looked TOO CUTE in them!
Truthfully, these FLY MASKS are a great invention. I have seen them before, but never worn one until now. I know MY JOHN has used them periodically at the barn for a horse who may be a bit light sensitive. At Barn 55, the horse would wear the mask during the day while walking around the barn or in the stall. The primary purpose of this was to protect the horse’s eyes from any glaring light. Then when outside training each day and during the races, he/she would not need to use the mask. Everything would be fine! I must say, this is just another way to be sure a horse is always as comfortable as possible. It also allows another opportunity for a trainer or farm to meet the individual needs and sensitivities of an equine athlete.
My pals and I all agree…these masks are WINNERS!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Hi Zenny, you look cute in your summer attire. I’m glad that Lane’s End is helping you stay in style. You would probably be pretty miserable without a fly veil. I’m actually not much of a shopper either.
Love to all,
Leslie

Dear Z Fans:
Just found this schedule of The Belmont coverage on TV. Thought it might come in handy for you. http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/63433/belmont-coverage-on-nbc-versus-schedule Hugs, J.B.

@Irene Caty, 11 months is the average, but horse gestation can range from 320 days to over a year. It’s more predictable with mares who have had a few foals and established a pattern, but a first-time mom like Zenyatta will just have to be watched carefully, starting in late March. There will be signs that she is getting ready to foal: changes in body temperature, appearance of the vulva and udder, fluid issuing from the nipples. Finally, she will become slab-sided when the foal aligns itself longitudinally with her body so it can be born. No doubt there will be some sleepless nights!

@Maggie – Never give up on your dream. I realize Zenyatta is at Lane’s End to have babies, but you never know what the future has in store for her. In between pregnancies there might come a time when Team Zenyatta might decide to have her make an appearances, there in Kentucky, for charitable causes. Keep your dream.
@Ann Maree – I know you asked the Zenyatta Team who they thought would be their pick for the Belmont. I am rooting for Master of the Hounds.
@LauraJ answered Barbara Grimaldi – Laura is right about the wait. Zenyatta’s time will come.
@Roxi Cook & Sharon Call – Your response to Jean from Texas – I agree about protecting all thoroughbreds, but remember, there is always the future as I said to Maggie. You never know when the opportunity will present itself. I am not sure the age of many of you who post, but this is a learning experience and a great way to share the love that Zenyatta brings to her postings. Never say never, just be patient, and when the time is right who knows.

Oh Zenyatta you look like you are ready to attend a masquerade ball and dance all night…I would know that face, those legs, rump, head, shoulders, and amazing swan neck if they wrapped you in cloth hiding all your markings…Like you said you are a big girl. My eyes got so accustomed to watching your races videos and looking at beautiful photos of you over & over, that now all other horses almost look like little burros to me…They are look so short…I miss the excitement of seeing you race…what thrills you always gave us…I rejoice that you are happy and of course I am still over the moon about your baby bump…Love- Joy- Peace -Happiness & Great Health to You Always-Kari

@Judy Berube–thanks for the link to the tv coverage. It was incomplete the last time I checked. I’m glad to see Versus stepping up to give us more.
Robin
Now your styling! You wonderful and beautiful Girl…you are always in my heart Miss Z.
Terry Crow
@Charlotte Farmer–It looks to me like Master of Hounds is going to be very tough in the Belmont. He had so many things going against him in the Kentucky Derby that we didn’t see the “real” horse. The distance will certainly not be a problem for him.

Sweet Z-the mask looks great on you and will keep the pesky critters from “bugging” you.Sprays work well for the body but eyes also need care.Though I and thousands of others would love to see you ,we must understand that broodmares need the calm routine of day to day life and peacefully enjoy paddock time as their little one grows.Your health and the babes is the important thing. Love the daily posts and so appreciate the Team who cares for you. You are so blessed. We all love you!!

Hi Zenny you look FABULOUS with your mask. You do resemble Zorro as Abigail pointed out. I read the Horse & Man blog with you featured & also read about a new born foal that had been attacked by two dogs. How sad. It would be nice if your readers would check it out. You are so well cared for & loved by all. There are alot of horses who are not. There are a few featured on this blog horseandman.com/ Till tomorrow sweetie XOXO

Beautiful Zenyatta, How chic, bet you are really heading to South Beach in a limo with your girl friends. You are something else and I am happy to hear your needs are being met by Lane’s End. Love you so much.

Z, You look like a Rock Star. Maybe you can lend it to Lady GAGA. Looks like a fashion accessory she would also love.

Zenny, once again you are the glam girl of the year. Only you could look so grand wearing such a mask…you just make everything “classy”. I know LE is taking such good cae of you…Ann and Jerry wouldn’t have it any other way. Thanks to Sarah for the pic and to Dottie for another peek into the life of the greatest horse of my lifetime.
Joanne
You look so cute.
Thanks Z for reminding me to get them for my two horses.
LauraJ
@Charlotte Farmer, thanks. I missed your reply to her. These threads get so long so fast, I don’t catch everything.

Dear Zenny
Just love that fly mask. Not having light colored
Ears or a nose you don’t need the crusader type.
Might have to be custom made if you were a “grey”.
The story about you and your BBF looking at each other
With fly masks is funny. Hope no one spooked.
I know that you will never be a show jumper, but
I would love to see you in one of those crocheted
“hats”. They are very cute also. I also noticed that you
Did not travel with a leather cap on your head. These hats
Have holes for your ears. I saw some other TB with them.
Guess you were so quiet and inquisitive that John was not
Worried that you would hit your head.
My TB hated to wear that leather hat when hr traveled
In the trailer. One time we put it on and when he arrived.
He had no hat or halter on and was standing in his area
Like nothing was wrong in his slant in the trailer. He had
To back out without a halter on. That was a little scary.
Luckily he let us catch him as he backed out. Horses are
Sooooo much fun.
Sweet dreams and
XXXXXOOO

Dear Laura J.:
Thanks for the link to Mr. Besilu. Have him on my Horses to Watch list in DRF. He looks like a handful. I wonder if they will start him as a two year old at Saratoga? He’s very handsome. He was sold to Besilu Stables rep. at the Keenland Sale for 4.2 Million. Hugs, J.B.
