Happy Monday Everyone!
The summer season is upon us now and the weather is getting quite warm and very cozy! The advertisements on both radio and television keep commenting about THE LATEST FASHION ACCESSORIES one needs for SUMMER!
I have never been much of a shopper. MY TEAM always did this for ME. Now Lane’s End is also helping to provide me with my daily essentials.
As you know, I am outside quite a bit and love the time I spend strolling in my paddock. At this time of the year, while I’m outdoors, so are the ‘darling little flies and bugs that come with the summer season’. As a result, I have been outfitted with MY NEW SUMMER ‘MUST HAVE’ ACCESSORY…A FLY MASK!
This MASK (which I am modeling for you in the above photo) is really very comfortable. It fits nicely around my head. The material around my eyes is rather elevated…so the mesh portion of the mask itself is not touching my skin at all. The purpose of this item is 2-fold. Firstly, and most importantly, it helps to keep the ’adorable bugs’ from wanting to be on part of my face or by my eyes while I’m outside grazing and relaxing. Secondly, the fly mask serves as a nice screening aid from the sun for my face and eyes. In this respect, it is much like a pair of sunglasses for a human.
My pals and I are all adorning our MASKS these days whenever we go outside. At first, we looked at each other rather quizzically…to see what “this thing was’ our friends were wearing. As you know, horses don’t use mirrors when trying on something new…so when we saw each other for the first time with this ‘mask’ on…it was rather different. Once we realized everything was fine…and who was who, it was all A-OK! As a matter of fact, we all decided we looked TOO CUTE in them!
Truthfully, these FLY MASKS are a great invention. I have seen them before, but never worn one until now. I know MY JOHN has used them periodically at the barn for a horse who may be a bit light sensitive. At Barn 55, the horse would wear the mask during the day while walking around the barn or in the stall. The primary purpose of this was to protect the horse’s eyes from any glaring light. Then when outside training each day and during the races, he/she would not need to use the mask. Everything would be fine! I must say, this is just another way to be sure a horse is always as comfortable as possible. It also allows another opportunity for a trainer or farm to meet the individual needs and sensitivities of an equine athlete.
My pals and I all agree…these masks are WINNERS!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

My horsie has a pink plaid one!!! With ear covers! That would look cute on you, too!

Zenny, I have to tell you a story about my husband which is just too cute!! He said he had something to tell me with a very sad look on his face. Well, my thoughts went immediately to a bunch of horrific sceanarios..he was leaving me..he gambled away all our money..etc. etc. Our 30th anniversary is coming up. He wanted to surprise me and take me to see you at Lane’s End. He has been calling, writing, emailing, just pestering the heck out of them trying to let us come see you!! He didn’t understand the need to limit visitors especially now that you are having a little one!! Anyway I thought it was so sweet of him to try. He knows how crazy I am about you!! Aren’t I a lucky girl??
Jeanie
Dearest Z,
You look darling in your mask! I have seen these before on horses I have worked with and I think they like the protection from flies and the light. Also, it gives you a little privacy when you might be checking something/one out; no one knows exactly where you are looking! Anyway, you look very smashing.
Your humble J
Susan
Zenny you look so cute with your fly mask! It reminds me of race horses wearing blinkers. Is part of you bridal path growing out since you are not racing anymore? Just looks like it.
Rebecca
Be careful in the sun Mama…keep sunscreen on your beautiful nose!
Sally
A big thumbs up for fly masks!! I know my horse really appreciates hers much more than the flies climbing in and around her eyes!!
Arlene
Hi Zenny, Glad you have the face protection to make your days outdoors even more enjoyable!
Joanna
I must say, you look stunning with your new ‘shades’. You maybe heard about Mucho Macho Man getting custom shoes? (You’ll learn soon enough…kids just can’t keep track of anything!) You look great Z.
Tatia
Oh,Zenny – I like the new shades. The only thing that could make them better is if they were pink ;-) So glad you and your pals have them for sun and pest protection. It’s really hot here in TN and I bet it’s getting hot up there in KY, too. Whew! I’m ready for the beach…got a house lined up…doesn’t have a stall, but the back porch is nice…wanna come with me? Have you ever run on a sandy beach before? It’s so much fun. You would love it. Hugs!

Hey Z these make are very cool and very effective I might add!! All our barn buddies are wearing them now out here in Cali!! Thx for sharing your story today! Ove you Z and D!! :). Xxoo
Lauren
Dear Zenny – Personally I think you would look better in a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses, but your new fly mask is certainly too cute. I hope you are enjoying the nice warm weather in Kentucky and that you are feeling fine. God bless you beautiful girl, you look fabulous. Love you. xoxoxo
Diana a.
you just look FABULOUS in in your Fly mask.
I love yoy girl!
Valerie
Too cute…ZORRO…good baby name!!!You look fabulous in your new summer accessories!
Victoria
You look beautiful in your fly mask, Zenny! My horses all have fly masks too and they think they’re TOO CUTE as well!
Monica Horn
What an excellent idea! Don’t your people just think of everything for your safety and comfort! I’d imagine flies are extra pesky when you don’t have hands to swat them away from your eyes.
dunie
Think you should have one with ears, dear Zenny!

So cute!
Jeanne from Texas
Hi Zenny….I really wish someone would post on here why people can’t visit you at Lane’s End. I accepted the fact for several months now it is “breeding season” and I guess they don’t like visitors during these months. (However when I was in Kentucky a few years ago, I was able to visit Clairborne during breeding season to see the stallions) Now though breeding season is about over and hope those of us that simply adore you will be able to visit. Hint, Hint!!! I still can’t say enough how much I miss your being on the race track. I always just go to youtube and watch you run and win again there. Ride in the sunshine!
Allen
Z only you could look that good in flymask.Have a great day Queen Z.

Hello Pretty Girl!
Glad you have your eyes protected so you can still go out and enjoy that Kentucky blue grass. It’s hot in KY and gonna be 95 here in CT this week! Keep yourself cool and hydrated. Eat lots too! I love you Zenyatta!
Christine Valada
Oh, Zenny, just wait until you and your friends figure out how to take off each other’s masks and see what your human friends do. It is just too funny. My boy Ace is an expert in relieving buddies of the “alien mask” with his prehensile lips.
Jan
Zenyatta,
You look so chic in your shades. Lane’s End sure gives you gals the A-list treatment. Dottie, how much weight does a pregnant horse gain in a month. Stay Healthy and Happy Big Mama. Love & Kisses from Houston. xoxox
Susan from VA
Why no “ears” on your fly mask? The flies don’t pester your ears?
Andrea from Germany
Looking really good with your Fly Mask. Here in Germany these masks are often to be seen. We have tiny little critters over here, called culicoides. They are a plague and they cause inflammations. Stay healthy , love you Zenny.
Trisha Veazey
Who is that masked lady? You look intriguing and it only adds to your mystique.
Of course you would look marvelous in anything.
What a great invention.
Love hugs and kisses
Deborah Richman
Wow, you make wearing a fly mask look positively chic, beautiful Z :)
Roxi Cook
You are adorable in your new fly mask. My horses have worn them in the summertime for many years. I love the SuperMask with Ears. One of my very sensitive horses also wears a fly sheet and fly boots so that she’s relaxed and comfortable all day long.
eastcoastkid
OMG!!!! It’s an equine “facinator”…I LOVE it…so “on trend” for the summer season…the only improvement would be to make it PINK!!!!!!
Dottie, you are THE BEST!
jeanie langford
Nice shades big big. I hate watching a horse be bothered by flies. They bite hard. Love you. Hugs and Kisses. Don’t over exert in this heat.

@Jean from Texas: Just in case you haven’t heard, there has been an outbreak of the EVH-1 virus. It is mainly going through the quarter horse cutting horse industry, but can easily spread to other horses. It can KILL a horse real quick and also cause abortions. It is spread horse-to-horse or you (a human) can transport the virus on your clothes or shoes without knowing it. Please do not press Lane’s End for visitation rights. Our boarding stable is in a self-imposed lock-down even tho there are no horses within 100 miles of us that have the virus. It is just too tragic to take any chances.
