Good Morning,
It sounds like all of you are having an interesting time thinking of BABY NAMES! It is a great deal of fun trying to come up with the ‘perfect’ name that ‘appears available’. Needless to say, Sophie’s suggestion, was just that, a thought. There are so many fun possibilities and options for one to contemplate. Using the Jockey Club Interactive page is definitely very helpful.
So many of you kindly wrote and asked about Makoma. My dear friend is doing fine! John just took this photo of her a few moments ago so I could share it with you. As you can see, she is A-OK! John also did a little video for you of Makoma so you could see her walking around the grazing area at Barn 55.
Horses are like people. Once in awhile, they can have something in their life not go right at that particular moment. For Makoma, it was her race yesterday. As an athlete, something can happen at the drop of a hat. So, we are all grateful that she just had a ‘bad day’ for whatever reason….and that she came out of the experience in good shape!
Many times in life, it is something like this that makes you appreciate how wonderful it is to have your health! Good health is so very important!
Again, thank you for thinking of my dear friend and asking about her! Makoma sends all of you a BIG HUG!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

In keeping with the Police album name “Zenyatta Mondatta”, how about “Regatta de Blanc” as a baby name. I think it would fit a boy or a girl?
Fran
Hi Z! So glad that Makoma is okay. Nice and cool here Z. And, last night our trainer’s horse, Promise, finally foaled. She had a precious filly yesterday at 7:30 pm. I took a lot of pictures of her today while Kate was riding Dozey. Practice, practice! Have a wonderful evening Z. xxoo

So glad Makoma is fine! Just wanted to say, Z, you are one of the only Thoroughbred racers I love! You definitely inspire me when I race (not on the track though, I barrel race). Love to the Queen!

Wishing Makoma all the best and glad that she’s A-OK. Zen, you are so thoughtful in that you mention your other race buddies. You are beautiful inside and out. Take care while I think of some baby names.

Thank you, John for the video of Makoma. What a relief to know she is OK. Zenyatta, time to talk Belmont. Definitely want to know your thoughts on who will win. Maybe you and your pasture pals can come up with some ideas for us. Miss ya so much.
Pete
You “guys” really are a credit to the game. Your update on Makoma is amazing. Not only does your team care about the horse, they also care about the fans out there who really love the horses. All trainers could look at this and learn. Bravo Team Sheriffs.
Kendra
Hope I did not miss the pin project. Did the “Z” pins ever go on sale? Sorry if this is an old subject, but I did not hear the outcome. Thank you, John and Dottie for all of your very interesting and educational diary entries, pictures, videos and references.

Dearest Zenny
Wonderful news about your fantastic future foal – He or she will be wonderful and adorable regardless of the future gender or potential racing ability or success. Do take care and continue to graze and stay healthy – I know its an adjustment not being in competition now, but you have another very important job ahead of you; that of being a fantastic dam to your new baby.
Our mare, Ama Ray, who raced in Southern CA and now lives with us in Arizona with her two special cotls has finally settled in enjoying retirement as opposed to life on the track…so I know you will find the same comfort in your new important job…we so love you and wish you the best you gave us all so much and did so much for the sport of racing you deserve a wonderful new chapter in your life and kudos to your racing/training family for retiring you not only successful but also SOUND. This should become the new racing standard!
Much love and appreciation..
Ama Ray, Raydiant Attire, Marino Ray and Goldzinger and their parents

Hi, Zen,
Thanks so much for the good news about Makoma. So glad she’s ok.
When things like this happen, it is a reminder once again of how remarkable your career has been! How race after race, every single time, you always had a “good day”! You never took a day off from training or from the job at hand when there was a race to win. You always “showed up”! I believe I’m right on this, but you were never scratched or withdrawn from a race because of injury or sickness! I believe once John pulled you out because of some track conditions. How miraculous it is what you did, race after race, win after win, same 110% you gave every single time! As other stars chase your records (Black Caviar seems to be one who might get close, or Frankel), there will never be another one like you! You carry the hearts of literally thousands of your fans who love you like no other.
No one has said it better than Priscilla Clark: “…Zenyatta brought to us a beauty that was a tonic for the soul. She allowed us to believe in the impossible, and it was the light of her being as much as the thrill of her races that got us dancing. Zenyatta was transformative.”
Your light will always shine ever so bright, sweet lady. Big hugs! Your friend, Ann Maree

Hi, Zenny, thanks so much for the great info on Makoma. I had come to my computer to see what I could find about her on the web, but came by our site first and got the good news.
I remember watching Secretariat in the Belmont (on TV) and being worried because he didn’t usually go to the front right away and he just kept getting further in front. I yelled at him to save something for the stretch (we all know how long that is at Belmont) but he wasn’t listening and kept going faster and getting further in front. He just had to stop, didn’t he? NO NO WAY. It was glorious and everyone was in awe at the tremendous spectacle. Yes, he was a great horse.
Kari Bussell thanks so much for posting the videos, which were fun to watch, bringing back some very happy days.

Good Evening Queen Z, It has been a rough week and hadn’t time to get my Z updates. I was driving home yesterday afternoon from work and as I always do I listen to Sirus Radio channel 209. I love racing and always have. I heard Makoma was pulled up I nearly had an accident. Immeditely arriving home I was on the internet and thank goodness she was okay!
I heard there is going to be an auction where the winners will be able to visit Zeyatta. Here is the link.

Boy won’t that be some very lucky people!
Hugs and kisses

Hi Hon,

Your humble J
Delrene
Makoma is ok! That is a great relief. thanks for the video too. She is so pretty. I guess what I’m reading is she just was having a bad day and didn’t feel like running? Too cute!!!! Zenyatta should “Tango” with her and say, you must always try your hardest for our dear trainer. He is so good to us.
The video was sideways on my computer, but just “cricked my neck” and enjoyed it.
Everyone have a wonderful weekend. Belmont is next week.
Peggy (N)
Zenny I know this is your site, but I know you love your fellow horses, could I say something to Uncle Mo here.

@Cheryl Y: I can’t imagine how devestating the barn fire was to all involved. They are certainly in my thoughts and prayers.I hope those who were injured heal quickly-I know the emotional trauma will be harder to deal with.I’m so sorry <3
@Susan,San Jose,CA: How cute that your 2nd graders are excited about Baby Z! I hope they will still be your students when the baby is born!
@Brittany Hamilton: There is a racing blog on FB you might like- it's called Bits N'Bunny and it is written by a 14 -year- old girl and is very enjoyable and informative. For instance, today she wrote about War Admiral and, particularly, his Belmont win. I'm learning a lot!
@Jack W: Congrats! Great story.
@Sherry Drish: So sorry that Raven is under the weather. Let us know how he is doing-you are both in my prayers.
@Especially Horses: "The Secret Garden" is one of my favorite books-and also my mother's and daughter's. We also loved "A Little Princess." It's been years since I've read them but I loved the part you quoted!
@Kari Bussell:You probably knew that Frances Hodgins Burnett is from Knoxville! That's really all I know about her.Glad you liked "The Secret Garden",too! Thank you for your kind birthday wishes! I laughed when you said you had been thinking of names for Z's baby since 2008! Thanks for the link to Secretariat's Belmont-I'll watch it in a little bit.I'll check out Chantal's FB, too.
@Judy B, Trina N, Shari V, Kari B: Thank you for your birthday wishes! I really don't know why I mentioned it-I guess because I had just gotten that picture of Z and I felt so celebratory! My first Zenyatta "swag"!
@Judy B: Thanks for the shout-out to the River Edge horses! I am going out there in the morning.I'll tell them they are loved from afar <3 I'll check out your and Terry Crow's posts on Master of the Hounds- I knew I had seen info somewhere recently-thanks!
@Shari V: I wish you could have Root Beer, too. I will keep you updated on him and tell him he has a special friend out in the world-Ohio!
@Sharon Call:I don't know if you saw the messages I left at the end of Post#261(about 18-19 posts up from the bottom), but I wrote a little update then and I'm going out in the morning and will post tomorrow afternoon.I can tell that Chester has touched your heart. I wrote that he seems to be at loose ends since the foal was born. Prior to that, he hung out with the mare but now she doesn't want any other horse near the baby and Chester is afraid of the other horses. It kind of breaks my heart. He stands in the shade of the barn and tries to be unobtrusive. He is not IN with the others but they can reach him over the fence as he goes by-they don't actually do anything to him-I suspect it has more to do with his history than current situation. I spend extra time with him but I think he needs a special home, maybe with another older horse who would like a nice companion. I give him a lot of extra attention-talking,brushing,treats-but I'm kind of concerned about him,in general.I wish you could adopt him, too, but I understand that timing isn't always right.
I had mentioned awhile ago that I was going to be helping with River Edge's website and get more pictures, but Jane's son's(she's the owner) girlfriend had taken it on. She's a computer programmer, though not a horse person. I will see if I send her new pictures of Chester (and the other boys),if she will post them. I will let Chester know that he has someone out there who loves him and cares about his happiness. I got another sweet potato to try-going to add a little molasses!

@Charlotte A. Farmer: Thank you for the kind birthdy wishes! I did have a very fun day!
@Judy Berube and Russ: Thanks for the Carlton House link and times for the Epsom Derby. Good night!

Dear Zenny,
How very sweet of you and your connections to raise money
for a therapeutic riding program at the Kentucky Horse Park.
It is very special to have Blame and Bernies halters there at the Auction. Two “equine men” in your life that left a significant impact on you and you on them. I rode at a barn where HIPPO
Therapy was done. It was so very special to see these children
mostly with spastic cerebral palsy come alive on the horses weekly and also watch their spacticity relax and of course their parents delight at the childs physical and emotional response
to their favorite equine companions. The horses who pariticipated in the program were very quiet and patient with the children. It was sooo heart warming to watch the interactions every week. BRAVO Zenny and TEAM Z and LE !!!!
