Good Morning,
Thank you so much for all of the kind messages you have sent ME offering congratulations on my IN FOAL news! Dottie and John were reading them last night and told ME about them! I am still chuckling at the cute names all of you are suggesting.
I also thought it was TOO CUTE when you referred to ME as having a BABY BUMP! I’m still giggling over this comment! And a name that is still making me smile is WINK WINK! How precious is this!
I promise I will do my very best to eat properly and stay nice and healthy. As you can see, I’m out enjoying the lush grass with my dear friend, Mona De Momma! She is a Grade 1 winning mare by Speightstown. As a matter of fact, Mona also raced in California…so we have a great deal in common.
The weather is quite warm in Lexington now. The rain has stopped for a bit and the sun is shining.
I’m one very happy HORSE!
Again, thank you for all of your kind messages. Happy JUNE!
With Love,
Hugs to all~(Especially my dear JOHN on his birthday!)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY John!!!! So nice of you to share with all of us that today is dear John’s birthday Zenny. You & your mama to be Mona de Momma look so happy grazing on that Kentucky blue. Stay safe honey, there are too many horrible storms & tornadoes across the country. Till tomorrow. Hugs to all.

Dearest Zenny, I am so happy to hear of your good news yesterday. A very Happy Birthday to your John, June 1st is a day that at least 2 wonderful men celebrate their birthdays, my son also has a birthday today. But to you Zenny, I feel so happy that your care has been entrusted to all of the people in your life and that they have in turn shared you with us. I never was able to see you race in person or even be able to go see you at your barn. That makes me sad, however, I am happy that we are able to keep up with you via your website. Thank you for being the wonderful mare that you are and thank you Dottie for your time in helping all of us in getting our daily dose of the Queen.

So glad you are doing well.

Gotta love dreaming of names for Zen’s baby-on-the-way. How about “Zen’s First Dance”!

Dear Susan in Tn.:
Looking forward to your next post on Rusty, Root Beer, Chester and the new baby. I thought of a name for him, Happy Ever After. I so hope he always will be. On another point you made, I think it’s rare to have so many runners from the Derby come back for the Belmont because the Belmont is the longest of the Triple Crown races (l mile and a half). A lot of the horses are just not up to that, especially if they have run in both the Derby and the Preakness, or if they’re not distance runners. Of course, regardless of those reasons, if a horse has won both the Derby and the Preakness he, no doubt, will try for the Triple Crown. And then there’s good racing luck to add to the mix. Thirty-four years since the last Triple Crown Winner, Affirmed. Hugs, J.B.

Hey, Happy Birthday, John! And thanks so much for signing my program and DRF on the Z Girl’s 19th win. Glad to finally hear the ‘in foal’ annoncement. I didn’t breed either of my mares back this year, so I’ll really be looking forward to Z’s foal! Or maybe I should say America’s foal.
Barb Zylbert
Happy Birthday John! Z is safely in foal and E is in the barn training well……the best birthday gifts imaginable for you no doubt. Well done!
Becky Fredericks
Z in foal and a Z-twin in the barn, sounds like a very happy birthday for John!! Very best wishes to all!

Thanks for sharing the news that it is John’s Birthday. Happy Birthday John and many more. May you have many wonderful years with your girls, Dottie/ Zenyatta and her half/sister E.
I love this pastoral, peaceful picture of Zenyatta and Mona de Moma – I remember her racing at Churchill Downs. She also won some nice races!
Thanks for all the great updates and stay healthy and happy.

Hi Z! You look so very peaceful in your beautiful paddock with your friend. Life is good! Yes, you have to eat good and take your vitamins! The weather here in CA is very nice; about 75 today and the wind picked up tonight so now it is chilly. That Kentucky Blue Grass looks wonderful. Oh, and a happy birthday to John. Hope he is having a wonderful birthday. Hugs to you Z xxoo

Beautiful Girl–I was so happy to read your news yesterday that I,like so many others in the Zen Family, cried! Although we had all had fun with all the hints and knew what was coming, reading the confirmation of it was ovewhelming. It was hard answering the phone and waiting on customers for a few minutes,as my voice was a bit shaky, trying to keep from sobbing out loud!! I am so truly happy for you and for all of your team–and so very grateful for the fact that they so generously share YOU with all of us!! It will be such a joy to travel this new road with you!
The pictures you have shared with us lately are incredible!! You really ARE radiant!!
It is late in Sun Valley, but it is still your dear John’s birthday here and I must add my birthday wishes to the many already offered. You were so blessed to have him care for and guide you,and to be so loved by him. He deserves all of life’s best things, always!! Hope this day was a wonderful one for him and that the days to come will be the same.
You precious one,are probably sound asleep–dreaming,I hope,of a lovely day tomorrow, with the sun on your back and a soft breeze to ruffle your mane. LOVE YOU!!

Kiss, kiss, kiss, to gorgeous Zenyatta, the happy mommy to be. Today,I’ve been re-reading some of the articles written about you both today and thru the year. They are all so touching and I’m struck with how so many people love you, and admires you; your ability , your amazing, sweet personality and your loving heart. How just thinking about you brings tears to the eyes of even the toughest men. Zenny, You really do inspire hearts like no horse ever before, and I think a lovely name for your first foal would be “Heartsong”. That would encompass your amazing heart and Jerry and Ann’s love of music. Just a thought.
And Happy, Happy, June 1 Birthday to John. I guessed you were a Gemini because of your calm, laid back, loving nature, and altho Zenny is an Aries which gives her the punch, I think her calm, loving, nature was enhanced from being gently nurtured by you. That was lucky for both of you! So congratulations and hugs to you both …………..Myrna

To Zenyatta’s John, a Happy Birthday with may there be many more. All the memories you have of your days at Loma Rica, I never tire of Roxann sharing with me about those times on the ranch. From above, Noor sends you birthday wishes too.
@Susan in TN – Both were gelded because of temperament. In Kelso’s case it took a while for him to settle down. In The Diver’s case his temperament did not change.
@Terry Crow – Native Diver’s regular jockey, Jerry Lambert brought the best out as Milo did with Kelso. Together these four rode into greatness.
@Noor – Still plugging ahead. We are still looking for a place to move his remains too. Three back east and two here in California. Will keep you posted. Thanks for caring!

PS I didn’t realize that Mona De Momma was retired. And of course, it’s nice that one of Bernie’s cousins is your new friend. (They share a granpa–the grandpops of granpops Secretariat).

Dearest Z, Good night and sleep tight.
@DJ–I’ll be at the memorial for Michael Baze—maybe we can recognize each other. I’ll have my black Z cap and white Z t-shirt and black slacks on and white tennis shoes (foot issues).
@Laura J—Good luck to Better Step Aside on Friday.
@Susan–Looking forward as always to more news from Rescue at River Edge! (After all, it is an adventure, isn’t it?)

Happy Birthday John!! (and many thanks to you and Dottie for this wonderful site, and getting the scoop right from the horse’s mouth :) for us)
What a beautiful picture Zenny, you look gorgeous and content as does your new pal, Mona De Momma. Keep us posted on your pregnancy and how you’re feeling (I know you will). I’m so, so happy for you and your connections. I don’t want to wish away a year, but there will be many excited people next March/April :)
Teresa E.
my goodness, turned on the news and another bad tornado on the east coast! What is going on? Let us all keep the people AND the poor animals in our thoughts.
I think that the owners of Z are going to have a completely different one word name for the baby. They may even have it set already. And they are not going to find out until the day arrives whether its a colt or filly, they cannot do that the same way they do with humans and lets not humiliate Z by doing that. It’s got to be a not to pleasant experience for a horse.
