Good Morning,
I want to wish all of you a very Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Please be safe as you travel and enjoy your free time! This is technically the opening day of the ‘SUMMER SEASON’. It is such a terrific time of the year!
On the West Coast, we have the Hollywood Park Meet running now. In mid-July, Del Mar opens for their summer season. On the East Coast, the Belmont Meet is in full swing now. Then those horses move upstate to Saratoga for their summer racing dates. In between, Churchill and Delaware Park, to name a few venues, will enjoy their seasons. It is a very exciting time in racing. These summer meets are FUN! I always enjoyed them! The big stake days are quite crowded and the people are always so enthusiastic!
I’ve heard many people also like to BARBEQUE on holidays. My Pals and I are very content to GRAZE! One thing for sure, we all like to be with our friends and have a GREAT TIME!
This is the view I have each day from my gorgeous paddock. My pals and I get to share time with our friends and enjoy this absolutely lovely scene each day! We have soft breezes here now and the sunshine is just perfect!
It is funny how the simple things we see so often in nature can be so special! It is really the time of the year to enjoy the outdoors and all the beauty nature provides for us!
FROM MY HOME, TO YOURS… HAVE A SAFE AND BLESSED HOLIDAY!
I’ll catch you up on ALL of the news next week! HOOVES CROSSED!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Beautiful Zenyatta, I can’t help wondering…although you seem to have the ideal life at Lane’s End farm, don’t you sometimes miss the excitement of racing, and all the attention you received from the adoring crowds…do you miss being surrounded by fans applauding you, and taking pictures? Don’t you get a little bored? I wonder…..Love, Jean.

Interesting that Eclipse was chestnut with a blaze
and a large not very attractive head. So his dam was
The introduction of the Godolphin Arabian into
The TB bloodlines. Eclipse was supposedly
Temperamental possibly due to that “hot” Arabian
Blood? Darley Arabian was on his Sires side.
Reading under the Godolphin Arabian they talk about
The development of the American TB from one of
The fillies Godolphin sired and was brought to the
US in 1700’s.
I guess Shackelford has some Arabian – hot tempered
and stamina. How much we don’t know yet? The Arabians are ridden in endurance trials
And have great stamina to go long distances in the
Desert. Right?

@J Smith @Terry C & Judy B – Thanks for the interesting discussion on Life At Ten.
@J Smith – and the new link for Carlton House. I had read that this is the best chance the Queen has had in 30 yrs. to win the only Classic race she hasn’t yet won. The connection of a 1/2 brother to Z, and as a gift from Sheikh Mohammed, makes the Epsom Derby more appealing this year.

@J Smith & anyone interested — The Equine Expressions print of Zenny’s artwork is beautiful. The online image’s “blue and pink” colors are more like Z’s actual “teal and pink” colors. And the 4 x 6 photo of Zenny that comes with it, shows the paint on her muzzle! The print shows the fine lines created by her hair as she “brushed” the canvas. To quote Zenyatta, “Too cute!”
Joyce
@Terry Crow – please say it isn’t so. Many years ago I lived about two blocks from Hollywood Park and had many a great time there. I guess I think that the major tracks are safe as I surely hope all of them will be. I invite friends new to racing to go to the track with me so some additional folks are aware it is great entertainment. Many are now repeat visitors.
Joyce
@j smith I checked the site listed for Zenyatta’s painting print but it says this item is no longer available. Any ideas on where it might be purchased? Perhaps the Del Mar site has more info?

Hope to hear some good news next week. Will you reveal some secret? Have a great Memorial Day holiday and take care.

Hi Everyone,
As someone who has been brought to horseracing by Zenyatta, and an absolute outsider to the sport, I feel I must comment on the Life At Ten story… I have been involved with animal activism my whole life and the way Life At Ten was treated is exactly the reason why Americans are turning away from this sport. The kindness and gentleness of the posters on this site is often times in contrast to the realities of horseracing . How sad. Perhaps if fans were more vocal ( to trainers, owners, and racetracks) in their opposition to such treatment a positive change could take place. One only has to read the thoughtful, kind, and sensitive posts on this site to understand the depth of feelings that exist for these beautiful, magnificent creatures of the Universe.

@Barbara Wood – Good Luck with your horses in Texas! May they stay out of harm’s way and may the virus go bye-bye real soon!
Thanks to the poster (can’t find your name) for the sweet story about SMOKE the brave little warrior donkey from Iraq …he probably wonders what he did to deserve such a great life…I think it was just his lucky stars! And now, It’s so wonderful that he’s going to be a Equine Therapist!
Vicki B.
@Joyce – it certainly does look like Zenny’s artwork print sold out in April, which is too bad, and surprised me, because the listing said it’s an “open edition”, which sounds like they could just print more.

Dearest Sweet “Z”,
Good morning! We are singing in the rain here in So. Cal! I hope it clears so we can go see the races at H.P. We’re off to Church now and will check back later.
……………………………………
Dear Brookie – Mrs. Voltz is so very proud of you and your class! Aren’t you lucky to have had such a special teacher! My favorite teacher always said, “Hold goodness in your hands and God in your heart. With both, you will never be alone and will always be loved.” I hope you have a wonderful summer!
DJ
Almost forgot – You too Dusty!! Have a great summer filled with hugs and treats. What a great race name ‘Dust to Dust.’ I’ll bet you left them in the Dust too :)

@J Smith-CERF is like old friends in that it is a retirement ranch for race horses. I have contributed to it often. Was not aware that the Zenyatta art work was sold out. However, it was on the site for quite some time so it is not a big surprise. Will probably be available on the secondary market.@Joyce–It is generally known that Hollywood Park is on it last legs as a racetrack. The state of the current economy is the only thing that is holding up its demolition and redevelopment. The Bay Meadows company owns Hollywood Park and it did not hesitate to raze that track for a real estate project.@Patricia–I promised to get off my soapbox about Life at Ten unless someone else initiated the subject. Since you did, I believe the real story regarding this fine filly and the breeder’s cup situation has not been told. Will we ever know? I tend to doubt it.

Happy Memorial Day to everyone, Zenyatta, and Dottie!!!!

@Signofthetimes & anyone else interested in the Epsom Derby this coming week: Street Cry was a VERY popular thoroughbred during his racing years in the UK and elsewhere, so he would definitely be “on the list” of sires that people like the Queen & Sheikh Mohammed would be interested in. Without Street Sense & Zenny over here, he would probably have taken longer to “catch on” as a sire. Here’s a clip of Street Cry in action, but as it’s about the Dubai World Cup he only comes up midway through the tape. But it’s a faithful record of what he was like on the flat:

Happy Memorial Weekend to All: We have our flag out this weekend to remember and never forget …. Zenyatta, you certainly have the perfect view– my view right now in Wisconsin is RAIN, RAIN.. hopefully tomorrow the sun will shine. Happy weekend to everyone.
Bonnie MacRaith
Thanks to Kathy Kimber for info about Pale Male…I thought he had died..so happy to hear about his new mate and offspring!
Even though this isn’t about Zenyatta I know she would approve as she loves just about all creatures it seems!

I think Shackleford is phenomenal but since he is a speed horse I think it’s asking a lot to stick him in the Belmont which is the longest of the Triple Crown and requires lots of endurance. I read somewhere that the great Affirmed who was the last to win all three was thoroughly exhausted after he crossed the finish line at Belmont. This really brings up memories since seeing Affirmed’s farewell was the last time I’d been to the track until our beloved Zenyatta came along and now I am on her blog and subscribe to Bloodhorse.
