Good Morning,
I want to wish all of you a very Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Please be safe as you travel and enjoy your free time! This is technically the opening day of the ‘SUMMER SEASON’. It is such a terrific time of the year!
On the West Coast, we have the Hollywood Park Meet running now. In mid-July, Del Mar opens for their summer season. On the East Coast, the Belmont Meet is in full swing now. Then those horses move upstate to Saratoga for their summer racing dates. In between, Churchill and Delaware Park, to name a few venues, will enjoy their seasons. It is a very exciting time in racing. These summer meets are FUN! I always enjoyed them! The big stake days are quite crowded and the people are always so enthusiastic!
I’ve heard many people also like to BARBEQUE on holidays. My Pals and I are very content to GRAZE! One thing for sure, we all like to be with our friends and have a GREAT TIME!
This is the view I have each day from my gorgeous paddock. My pals and I get to share time with our friends and enjoy this absolutely lovely scene each day! We have soft breezes here now and the sunshine is just perfect!
It is funny how the simple things we see so often in nature can be so special! It is really the time of the year to enjoy the outdoors and all the beauty nature provides for us!
FROM MY HOME, TO YOURS… HAVE A SAFE AND BLESSED HOLIDAY!
I’ll catch you up on ALL of the news next week! HOOVES CROSSED!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Zenyatta: There aren’t enough words that can adequately describe what you mean to all of us. We have truly been blessed to have your hooves touch our hearts. Thank you and Team Zenyatta for everything.

Wishing you a great weekend Z! On a sad note my mare lost her foal. On a good note, she is fine and is looking forward to a new baby. I hope the news “wink wink” is good! Baby and Hoosier are glad you have such a wonderful view. Take care Zen and hope you have lots of good eats over the weekend.

Yes, dear Zenyatta – nature always brings us closer to God and all of his blessings that we gave to us such as the grass, trees, clouds, sun…. And you Zenyatta.

@Fran, maybe Ensign or one of our other pros can comment, but they most likely bring them all in. I remember once hearing a statement from one of the farms (Overbrook?) that they monitor the National Weather Service and bring all the horses in if severe weather treatens. From what I’ve read, lightning is a much bigger threat to the horses than the remote possibility of a tornado. If left out they congregate under trees, and can be killed if lightmning hits the tree.

Hey, is anyone planning to attend the Old Friends memorial gathering on Monday?
Jan
Zenyatta,
What a beautiful view you have. In your recent pictures, you look like you gained some extra pounds. Wink, Wink..
Everyone have a safe and fun Memorial Day.
DJ
Thank you Sweet “Z” for the picture of serenity.

For those able to attend:
Michael Baze Memorial Scheduled for Thursday, June 2
A memorial for jockey Michael Baze will be held immediately after the races Thursday, June 2 at Hollywood Park.
All those wishing to honor Baze, who passed away May 10 at the age of 24, are invited to attend. The tribute will be held in the Sunset Room.
Baze was the leading rider at the Spring/Summer meet in 2007, the youngest jockey to accomplish the feat since Bill Shoemaker won the title at 19 in 1950.

Peace Be With You Michael+

What a beautiful home you and your friends share. I am so glad that you are relaxed and content. You have brought so much fun and joy into our lives, and it makes me so happy to think that you are having a wonderful new life.

Hi Zenyatta,
I think you and the Z team are being very coy about your next date with Bernadini. I think it happened already and you all just want to be low key until they’re sure you are safely pronounced in foal. It’s very late in the breeding season and with the time being 11 months, I have to think the mating took place already. Don’t worry, we all want you to be healthy and happy!

Good evening Zenyatta,
thank you for your holiday wishes, and I wish you and all of your friends and family the same.
What a beautiful ‘back yard’ you and your paddock pals have, and all that good grass to eat.
Will you get your carrots grilled for the occasion? And may be finish it off with some sweet potato pie, & sloppy pears?
However you’ll do it, be safe and well. :) :) :)

Thanf you my dearest Zenny and we wish you a Blessed Holiday along with your friends. Now that you are not racing, you are in a much more relaxed mode and take things more to stride. It is somewhat hard to vision you that way because I am so into you racing and winning and just giving it all you’ve got and I haven’t been able to clearly see you otherwise. There is nothing like a California Fan, Zenny. We just hang in there forever. I feel so blessed to have watched you race. You are a magical masterpiece on track or off. I send you my love and wish you a heavenly Blessed Weekend.

Hey Lady Z and Families.. I sent you a Memorial Day greeting on your facebook site. As I had a story with a picture to share with you and yours.. The picture is on the FB page.. Besides supporting ex-racehorse charities when I can, I also do volunteer work with the Audubon Birds of Prey in Central Florida.. As spring is “baby” season they have baby birds of prey (eagles, various hawks falcons, various owls..etc) that are in need of care for various reasons. I know because I rescued a great horn owletee that did not have a lucky first flight.. and it is on its way to recovery.. Well today they sent out a update post about another temporary resident (adult red shouldered hawk) that had an unfortunate encounter with a wildfire.. and was burned badly.. Well he has recovered enough that he is ready for the next stage which is rehab to help him heal some more, exercise and relearn how to fly etc. His legs are bandaged due to the burns still healing.. They named it “WARRIOR” because he fought to survive so hard..Well the picture comes up and you will not believe how its legs were bandaged. It looks like YOUR legs did when you raced… Pink and Teal and even a little royal blue.. You have got to see it It is on your Facebook page.. Couldn’t get it to post here.. I sent him encouraging greetings and told him about how you ran your races in that teal and pink… How you “FLEW WITH THE WIND”.. and reminded him with those colors on his legs he would soon be flying with the wind TOO!!!!!!!! Love you Queen Z and all your TEAM..

We are very sad here in Yavapai County, AZ as our racetrack has been closed for the 2011. Of course, you would never have raced here, but no doubt some of your cousins have been here. You are a beautiful lady!!

May we all remember the people who have fought and died for us so we could have freedom and a very high quality of life. We owe them everything. To Zenny: looking forward to the news next week.

@Paula Higgins — Indeed, Paula, thank you to all of those who fought and died and for their family members who also paid a huge sacrifice. These people fought for our freedom and the very goodness that Zenyatta embodies. May we all try to help others.

Zenny, it’s always wonderful to hear from you and Dottie and the rest of your family. I’m so glad you’re enjoying your new home at Lanes End. I’d love to have that view out my own window! I hope you and yours have a nice relaxing weekend and next week maybe we’ll find out why your hooves are crossed. In any case, the important thing is your good health.

@Sharon Call: Sweet potato-why didn’t I think of that? I even have a couple in the kitchen! I’ll let you know…
@Cathie: That’s really neat about the birds-I will check out Z’s FB page!
@Laura J: You are right-much bigger chance of a lightening strike and even if they aren’t under trees, if they are out in a field they can end up being the highest point and a pretty good target. Our three horses always go in their “rooms” on their own. I wish I could go to the OF Memorial Day-not this year. How is Step?
@Everyone:Enjoyed the posts at the end of #258 and from today. I was under-the-weather today and didn’t get out to River Edge (rescue). I’m hoping for tomorrow!
@Chris: Hope your new filly and her mom are still doing well.
