Good Morning,
I want to wish all of you a very Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Please be safe as you travel and enjoy your free time! This is technically the opening day of the ‘SUMMER SEASON’. It is such a terrific time of the year!
On the West Coast, we have the Hollywood Park Meet running now. In mid-July, Del Mar opens for their summer season. On the East Coast, the Belmont Meet is in full swing now. Then those horses move upstate to Saratoga for their summer racing dates. In between, Churchill and Delaware Park, to name a few venues, will enjoy their seasons. It is a very exciting time in racing. These summer meets are FUN! I always enjoyed them! The big stake days are quite crowded and the people are always so enthusiastic!
I’ve heard many people also like to BARBEQUE on holidays. My Pals and I are very content to GRAZE! One thing for sure, we all like to be with our friends and have a GREAT TIME!
This is the view I have each day from my gorgeous paddock. My pals and I get to share time with our friends and enjoy this absolutely lovely scene each day! We have soft breezes here now and the sunshine is just perfect!
It is funny how the simple things we see so often in nature can be so special! It is really the time of the year to enjoy the outdoors and all the beauty nature provides for us!
FROM MY HOME, TO YOURS… HAVE A SAFE AND BLESSED HOLIDAY!
I’ll catch you up on ALL of the news next week! HOOVES CROSSED!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Dear Zenyatta, What a great morning sunny and hot. I hope you are having a good morning in beautiful Kentucky. It is really warm in the building. A lot of the children are staying home and I don’t blame them. It is really hot in my room. Tomorrow I am treating my “Special Homeroom” to DQ. We can walk and the manager worked something out so I won’t break the bank :) We would love for you to join us for ice cream. The children wanted me to invite you just in case you can come :) We love you sweet girl and want to send BIG HUGS and KISSES from Shari and Homeroom 215 XXXOOO
@ Sue Noel I hope they remember all things horsey and Queen Z for the rest of their lives :) They have given me a special year too.
Susan in Tn I love what your doing and sharing with us. Brooke in my class has adopted a horse called Dusty. I hope to meet her this summer :)
@ Ensign I loved the video. You are a great teacher :)

Dearest Sweet “Z”,
Good morning! Forgot to congratulate ‘your’ Mikey on his Show for Cosi Rosi.
Will check back later for a new ‘hello’ from you! Thank you “Z” team :)

Hi Shari V.! Maybe you should ask that nice manager how we can name a sundae after our Great Zenyatta? “The Zenyatta Blizzard” or “PDQ Z” :) Peppermint ice cream with chocolate sauce? YUM! Have a wonderful day.
DJ
and of course there’s the “Unbelievable!” A mixture of everything :)

The peace and serenity of your meadow is well deserved. Enjoy your friends and the yummy grazing, beautiful lady.

Anne from Paramount: The horse was Cloud Man! I jumped up from the table because we heard he was scratched and I had him across the board in a big way :) Thank goodness he wasn’t and did great. Quite a personality on him! When he was rearing I said, “I hope he saves some of that energy for the race!”

@ DJ I love that idea. Maybe I should contact the company and let them in on Your great idea :) Oh class loved it.

Signofthetimes: The Seelbach is only 5 miles from Churchill Downs and about 5 from the airport. The cab rides to and from both are very inexpensive. Also, the hotel is on the main street shopping area which is filled with great pubs, restaurants, The Maker’s Mark bar and all of the hotspots when you step out of the Hotel Lobby. Rooms are newly renovated and not too expensive if you book early. I booked from the website.

@Joyce–Native Diver was a great one, pure speed. He did not really develop stamina until later in his career. The first time he lasted to win a stakes race at a distance most people wrote it off to the jockeys behind him falling asleep. When he won the first of his three Gold Cups we were astounded that he could carry his speed so far. Then the second one and then the third. Simply amazing. My favorite race that he was involved in was the Los Angeles Handicap when he and Viking Spirit raced literally head to head for the entire seven furlongs. Hollywood Park was his favorite track although he had success at other California venues. You are right, though. Not much outside of the state. Sort of like Lava Man, with whom he shares the Gold Cup winning race record. As I recall, he developed colic after the season in which he won his third Gold Cup and, although the vets tried, he could not be saved. He is buried at Hollywood Park under a memorial to him in the walking ring area. I wonder what will happen to his remains when Hollywood Park is demolished.

Morning Z,
Looking forward to hearing from you. Have fun with your friends today. Love you and love all of you, Judy and Russ
To Anne from Paramount, CA.:
I hope Rightful Image is alright. That last race he ran was so impressive. He was tenacious in going for that lead. He just kept fighting. He is so talented.

@Judy Berube–If you would like to see what Native Diver was like in his prime go to youtube and put his name in the search engine. There are videos of several of his races. He was something, but I think zenyatta would have run him down.

Just got done watching one of the greatest horse racing movies of all time, Let it Ride. I have met all of those characters in the film. Not the actors themselves, but the types they were portraying.

@DJ—Great suggestions from you for Dairy Queen sundaes to be named after our Queen! My favorite: the PDQ Z. Too cute!

Thanks again to all of you who have asked how our mare & little filly are doing — I’m glad to report that everything is going great! She has a lot of spunk and is improving every day — the vet will pull blood again on Friday and hopefully there will be no more signs of infection! Thanks again for your prayers and good wishes!

Oops — forgot to add that I like the suggestions for her name: Irish Blessing, Pride of Ireland, Irish Luck & Irish Miracle.
DJ
To Judy, Shari & Trina: Thank you…Our “Z” certainly sparks our imagination doesn’t she? PDQ-Z is my favorite too (Pretty Darn Quick Z or even Pretty Dairy Queen Z) :)

Gary – fabulous poem! You should submit it to Blood Horse or another horse magazine for publication. It really touched me and I’m sure it will other horse lovers as well. diastu in tempe

Zenyatta, you and your buddies are super fortunate to have that view from your paddock every single day. That is a great picture as well as all of the pictures from the past few posts. It helps you to appreciate the little things in nature and to enjoy life itself. Things I didn’t appreciate as much when I was younger. I don’t want to miss it now. You are getting me really excited about all the horse races going on this summer. I won’t be able to keep up with them all. I sure wish I could go to some of them and tailgate. Keep on enjoying the great weather as long as you can. It’s great for all the grazing that you and your buddies are always doing. I guess it’s pretty much the horse equivalent of cookouts and tailgates, although if you’re a horse, those things can’t hurt either.
