Good Morning,
I want to wish all of you a very Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Please be safe as you travel and enjoy your free time! This is technically the opening day of the ‘SUMMER SEASON’. It is such a terrific time of the year!
On the West Coast, we have the Hollywood Park Meet running now. In mid-July, Del Mar opens for their summer season. On the East Coast, the Belmont Meet is in full swing now. Then those horses move upstate to Saratoga for their summer racing dates. In between, Churchill and Delaware Park, to name a few venues, will enjoy their seasons. It is a very exciting time in racing. These summer meets are FUN! I always enjoyed them! The big stake days are quite crowded and the people are always so enthusiastic!
I’ve heard many people also like to BARBEQUE on holidays. My Pals and I are very content to GRAZE! One thing for sure, we all like to be with our friends and have a GREAT TIME!
This is the view I have each day from my gorgeous paddock. My pals and I get to share time with our friends and enjoy this absolutely lovely scene each day! We have soft breezes here now and the sunshine is just perfect!
It is funny how the simple things we see so often in nature can be so special! It is really the time of the year to enjoy the outdoors and all the beauty nature provides for us!
FROM MY HOME, TO YOURS… HAVE A SAFE AND BLESSED HOLIDAY!
I’ll catch you up on ALL of the news next week! HOOVES CROSSED!
With Love,
Hugs to All~
Z

Re: Sunday Silence — one of our favorite horses. Sunday died in 2002 at age 16. He was a very successful stallion in Japan after it was determined there was not a market for him in the USA. War Emblem, 2002 KY Derby and Preakness winner, was seen as a potential replacement for Sunday and sold to Japanese interests. However, War Emblem, while producing some good runners, has not been a success as a stallion due to his reluctance to cover mares.

I am enjoying everyone’s varied posts and links this morning-thank you!
@DJ: I LOVE “Sasparilla”! Why don’t you enter it in the foal-naming contest? You can enter a name without paying any money-the vote will be at the end-which has not really been determined, anyway! email name to: riveredgefarmhorserescue@gmail.com
There is only one name entered so far:(
Have fun at the races-I’ll watch on-line!

Good Morning Sweet Z. Each day I rush to my computer to see the “Good News”.
Susan in Tn…I will be glad to keep you up to date on Smoke and Take Flight Farms.
My 4-H group has chosen Hooves and Paws Animal rescue as our community service project, Each year my members have a fund raiser for the animals and then we go as a group to give the check and spend the day helping with all the chores. One of their special rescues was a family of Percherons a stallion, mare and baby. Their body condition was a 2 when rescued, their tails weighted over 25 pounds because of burrs in them. They removed most of the tail of the mare and stallion. The rescue group keeps the tails to show the condition of the horses when they were found. The stallion Papa now weighs 1500lbs, Momma River weighs 1350lbs and Baby Wally now weighs 1600 lbs. Each time we visit the facility, the family Dad,(Papa is now a gelding) Mom, Baby the members rush to see the now Black, healthy majestic animals. No thanks are needed when you see this happy family, all the children realize what a help they are to the animals.

To Judy Berube: Yes, it’s the same Peter Fuller and I see you found the recent article about him and his famous horses and daughter. I read that John’s family kept some of Peter Fuller’s mares at their farm in NH. I wonder if John still has family here? Have a great Memorial Day!

Hey Zenny: I hope you are having a wonderful day. Happy Memorial Day everyone. May we count our blessings living in this great country. May we thank our American soldiers for keeping us safe and protecting and preserving our Freedom.
nancy
Everyone just so you know I will assume Z will let us know she is in foal, although I found this out already from a good source that she is,but will let Z make it offical. Plus if you have noticed there have been no photos of her belly :) just her head. Have a nice Memorial Day Z and friends and everyone else.
Diana S
@nancy: A mare who is only 45 or so days along in her pregnancy isn’t going to be showing much, if anything, so I don’t think the head shots mean much. Besides, we do not know when the photos were taken. diastu in tempe

I do not post on Zen’s site very often, but i have asked about her gal pals, and may have missed the answer.
How is Pirate Queen?? Any information on her and her foal if she has one?
Would appreciate knowing and Zenyatta,
your name still fires up the fellas and some gals who still have not realized how important to Horse Racing you were and still are.
Of course, most of us do, just some folks are stubborn. They will come around. Stay safe.
Linda
Maggie
Well Zenny, I think I’m waiting for your news about you know what, then when my daughter told me, you know what. Hooves double and triple crossed. Love you soooo much.
Susan in TN
@Quarterhossgal: What a great idea for the 4H group! Benefits everyone, doesn’t it? I have a soft spot for Percherons,anyway-and I can’t even picture one with a body score of 2. What kind of fundraiser did your group do, if you don’t mind me asking? My daughter was in 4H(horse) and learned a lot. Do they still have “Know Down”?
Susan in TN
Okay- I have a soft spot for all horses but we had a “family friend” who happened to be a Percheron!
Quarterhossgal
Diana is correct a maiden mare only 45 days in foal is not going to show any belly. It will be a while before Z begins to show. I had a maiden mare that didn’t show until she was 9 months in foal, she delivered a healthy 100+ stud colt! We’ll probably have the official word on Z this week. Hooves crossed.

Thanks so much for the Hotel recommendations
In Louisville. It is hard to know what areas they are
In. Greatly appreciate it.

@Maggie – liked your comment, “I think I’m waiting for your news about you know what, then when my daughter told me, you know what.” Very discreet!
ENSIGN
Agreed with Quarterhossgal,
.
No mare will show as early as 45 days ;-) The majority of growth of the fetus takes place in the final 3 months of pregnancy. Some fit mares will show barely a sign of being pregnant until just before delivery, particularly maidens. I doubt we’ll see much change in Zenyatta until November or later.
.
@ Linda,
.
Pirate Queen won’t foal until next year. She was bred to Mineshaft.

signofthetimes – there’s also a nice Embassy Suites off of Hurstborne Lane which is off of I-64.

To Susan in Tn.:
You do it all for the horses and I think you’re a special lady. We will be sending a donation to River Edge Farm soon. Happy Memoral Day to you. Hugs, J.B.
To: The Kennedys in San Diego:
Sunday Silence was one of our favorites too. I lost track of him and didn’t know he was at stud in Japan or that he has passed. Hugs, J.B.
To Tracey K.:
I don’t know if John still has family in N. H., but it’s nice to know he is from New England. Happy Memorial Day. Hugs, J.B.

@ Judy B, yes the jockey of Life at Ten, John Velázquez he was fined $ 10.000. In that day I really felt very sad for her, I also bet on her of course I lost, I get always all my information through Blood Horse magazine.
I watch TVG all the time I really love horseracing this is the reason I like Japan racing… I bet there and all over the world. Hugs- Ingrid.

Good night, sweet girl. Just went out to visit our horse, who is beautiful too.
May we all carry the thanks we feel toward our soldiers throughout the year. Love you always, dear girl.

@Judy B: Thank you <3

@Terry Crow, sit down, u r going to laugh even harder now; not only couldn’t I make the DVD play, I have messed up the whole TV now! I can’t even get it back to regular TV, it’s just snow! I was trying to watch a DVD of that Showtime series, The Tudors, how fitting, I probably would have done a lot better in that time period without any gaggetry. I am striking out on all fronts, I’m in Del Mar, minding a dog (don’t worry everyone, the dog is alive and well) since TV was out, I went down the road to watch the polo match yesterday, modern technology struck again. I checked online, and it said polo was on, wrong, doesn’t start til June. No prob, I’ll scoot on over to the Fairgrounds & watch the 1/2 Arabian horse show, which was posted online as being on til 6pm. You guessed it, wrong, it ended early & I missed it! So, Terry, exactly where are those horses on Del Mar beach? I’m going to see a horse while i’m here if it kills me. Oh, I hope it doesn’t or the dog won’t get fed.

Hi, Zenny, we’re waiting for your news about “you know what”. This site will explode in happiness when you tell us all about the latest stuff. Yes, our hooves have remained crossed and we manage several “winks” throughout our day. We hope you and everyone who frequents this diary has enjoyed a wonderful holiday weekend. To all our servicemen, including YOUR John, God’s Blessings on you for serving our country. We just watched an outstanding video on your FB page called “Heart”. It showed the glory of your races, Zenny, and the TREMENDOUS heart you showed during #20. Never did a horse demonstrate such raw courage. Thank you
for providing thrills and chills even today.

signofthetimes, i see a few people mentioned the Galt House to you, I didn’t read many of the posts so I don’t really know what the qu. was, but hope this is helpful; I stayed at Galt House, about 5 yrs ago, rooms are average, it’s fine, I think some may be renovated and some not, but I bet it’s fun when a big race is on. It’s a huge hotel, so must be really bustling when it’s full. I’m sure you’ll have some good people watching in the public areas. There was no racing on during my visit, so good hotel deals to be had. But I’m sure it’ll hard to get a room on big race days. I can’t really remember what the surrounding area was like, but I would stay there again. There are some beautiful old homes in L’ville, I would recommend a walking tour around that area if u have time. I mentioned once b4, many posts ago, that there is a good ghost walking tour around that area. Sounds cheesy, but it’s not too long, fun history, cooler cause it’s pm, u do go on a bus for a little of that tour, but it’s a mini van type bus, and u walk too. As I recall, it ended at a nice bar!

To Susan in Tn.:
You’re welcome. Hugs, J.B.
To Hernan Tovar:
Dear Ingrid:
I felt sad for Life At Ten too. Who do you think will win the Belmont? Hugs, J.B.
To Sue and Tony:
So true. Z did in that race something I have never seen a horse do; she made up 28 lengths. She is incredible. Hugs, J.B.
judy berube
To Ensign:
Do you think Z will be about 60 days along by June 1? And if they scan then, can they tell if she has a colt or a filly? Hugs, J.B.

Talking of horses in the ocean, Hay List (the Australian horse) posted another workout of himself on the beach. They are stunning photo’s. Unable to post link at mo, but you don’t have to join facebook to see his page. I’m pretty sure u can look at his pix without joining too. Just go to facebook.com then, in the facebook search bar, type in, Hay List athlete, and his page should come up. Now, we all know, if I can find it, it can’t be that hard! You can also click on the facebook link at very top right of this page, to connect with fb. That will take u to Z’s fb, and again, just use the fb search bar.

@ J Smith. OMG, that sounds like me. It’s nice to have company in this boat. Still laughing!
