Good Morning,
I want to wish all of you a very Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Please be safe as you travel and enjoy your free time! This is technically the opening day of the ‘SUMMER SEASON’. It is such a terrific time of the year!
On the West Coast, we have the Hollywood Park Meet running now. In mid-July, Del Mar opens for their summer season. On the East Coast, the Belmont Meet is in full swing now. Then those horses move upstate to Saratoga for their summer racing dates. In between, Churchill and Delaware Park, to name a few venues, will enjoy their seasons. It is a very exciting time in racing. These summer meets are FUN! I always enjoyed them! The big stake days are quite crowded and the people are always so enthusiastic!
I’ve heard many people also like to BARBEQUE on holidays. My Pals and I are very content to GRAZE! One thing for sure, we all like to be with our friends and have a GREAT TIME!
This is the view I have each day from my gorgeous paddock. My pals and I get to share time with our friends and enjoy this absolutely lovely scene each day! We have soft breezes here now and the sunshine is just perfect!
It is funny how the simple things we see so often in nature can be so special! It is really the time of the year to enjoy the outdoors and all the beauty nature provides for us!
FROM MY HOME, TO YOURS… HAVE A SAFE AND BLESSED HOLIDAY!
I’ll catch you up on ALL of the news next week! HOOVES CROSSED!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

You’re welcome. Investigating bloodlines is really interesting and fun.
To Gary Moulton:
Wow. That’s amazing. I always loved Sunday Silence. I didn’t even know he was at stud in Japan.
Z Fans:
Enjoyed all the great posts today. Thank you to all the men and women in our Military Service.
Hugs to all of you, Judy B.

This is the best time of year – beginning of Summer!!! Your paddock is beautiful!!!

Hope everyone has a safe and sound Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Miss Greatness…love your view!
FYI …
If anyone is intersted, there’s a site called Portraits and it’s all about the Historic Sires and Dams: biographies and images. I love this site, a lot of the pedigrees were written by Ann Peters, one of the best Breeding Analysts around.

@Susan in TN – Really liked your post today on Rusty and Root Beer.
@judy berube – Yes, I am very much looking forward, hoping Carlton House, 1/2 brother of Queen Z., wins the Epsom Derby for Queen E., and making Street Cry look even better than he already does, and possibly even adding an enhanced view to British/Arab relations, because of the Sheikh.

To Tracey K:
Just read your post.(I start at the bottom and move up). The Peter Fuller that you mentioned, is that the Gentlemen who owned Mom’s Command. She won the filly Triple Crown in 1985 (The Acorn, The Mother Goose and the Oaks) and his daughter, Abby Fuller, rode her. We’re from Rhode Island and I remember it was a really big thrill to have a horse from New England win the big races. It really is a small world. I didn’t know Z’s John had a New Hampshire connection to the Fullers. Hugs, Judy B.

It will be fun to see what happens. Hugs, J.B.

Thank you for the great link. Hugs, J.B.

@Terry Crow @J Smith & @Joyce – I’ve enjoyed your dialogue on Hollywood Park, as I live just under a mile away. As a kid, I rode my bike over there, before the Forum was even built, and had my first driving lesson in the lot, after. The idea of even more congestion in the Staples area seems out of place, especially when H.P. has plenty of room. I will be sorry to see it go for more shopping and housing, as seems planned. And it’s a much longer drive to Santa Anita.

PS to Dona:
The link didn’t work. (That happened to me today on one of the links I posted). But I googled TB Heritage and got it. There is the whole story of Eclipse, along with photos. Also, the story of the Darley Arabian, the Godolphin Arabian and two other Foundation Stallions, and so many more horses and photos. This site is really interesting. Thank you. Hugs, J.B.

Hey,everyone! I am so touched by your comments and caring about Rusty and Root Beer and River Edge, in general. I’m kind of tired so I won’t list names because I’m afraid I’ll leave someone out and you are all so special to me! This has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done-just a joy! I feel so blessed to be able to spend time at the rescue.
@Sally(B): I kissed Rusty on his soft nose today and thought of you-how you always end your posts to Zenny!
@Judy B: You come up with so many great links-thank you!
@Sharon Call:Honey is a good idea :)
@Shari Volz: Glad you are able to run again! My best to Dawn when you hear from her<3
@Terry Crow: I have never been bored by any of your posts, including the discussion of buildings with JSmith! You have such a wealth of knowledge with many personal experiences to go along with it. I think we all feel lucky that you are here! I often don't directly respond to those of us who post racing info just because I don't have anything to add,but I take it all in and feel like I am learning bit by bit-and loving every minute of it! One of the things that I love about this site is that I think we each bring our own special something to share, with the common denominator being our love for Zenyatta(and,of course, other horses!). Your brother must have had some incredible stories about Pearl Harbor. Did he talk about it much? My three brothers-in-law were in Viet Nam and my dad was in the Navy in WWII, but none of them ever seemed to want to discuss their time in the service. Appropriate topic for Memorial Day!

Dear Susan in Tn:
Thank you. There are no words to let you know how much I admire what you are doing for the horses at the rescue. They need food and water; but they need to be talked to, petted and loved. You, and all who volunteer with them, are special; but you have a joy about you that I’m sure they feel. Hugs, Judy B.
Marilu V
@ Joyce: If you go to the http://www.ReRun.org and click on Moneigh they have Zenyatta’s reprint and they are also selling the original painting by LIFE IS SWEET and others. I just ordered Zenyatta’s reprint.
You can contact Mary Simons. She handles the paintings and note cards. They call them Moneighs. Mo for the famous painter Monet and Neigh for the sound of the horses. Very clever! They use their tail, muzzle, and hooves to paint. Pictures of
Zenyatta and Curlin painting are so cute.
This is to raise money for Rerun. In fact there is an auction next week. Marilu

@Terry Crow, I can’t even figure out how to play a DVD on a TV hooked up with Direct TV. Where does that leave me! I need to borrow somebody’s teenager:)

Susan in TN: Your dear reports from River Edge encourage others . .. would it be possible to bake the sweet potatoes, cool them & then chop them into smaller pieces? They sweeten as they bake, soften and taste delicious. ~ Also, Mr. Crow: From one of the stories in ‘Z`s Commemorative BloodHorse issue, it was mentioned that from DelMar, the race horses were taken over to the ocean (exercising them in the sand along the coast must be what was meant) .. . do you know about this? Your recollections are vital and much appreciated — very apropos of today`s needed mature reflections and couldn`t be more relevant; thank you for every word.

Wow Z . . . what a great view!! I’ve never been to KY but hope to see all of its beauty one of these days. Hope you’re enjoying the holiday weekend. Love you sweetie!!

Dearest Zenny:
You have earned and deserve the best of everything for what you have done on and off of the track. John is right when he says you are exceptional in every way. I do so miss you and Mike on the track but remain happy knowing that you retired sound and will live a wonderful life.
Susan in TN
Good morning Zenny! Hope you and The Girls are out enjoying the day! Love you-
Dottie and John, Ann and Jerry, Team Z California and LE: Thank you for everything!
@Judy Berube: Thank you for your kind comment! I do clean stalls when I go out to River Edge, just to help, but also I feel it is only fair- I would pay admission to go do what I get to do! And then to find that what I’m doing is actually helping them-that IS pure joy! Hope you and Russ have a great day!
@Kathryn Cogswell: Thank you-what a nice thing to say. Actually, I did bake the sweet potato but in the microwave and I think they soften and taste better when they are “slow-cooked.” I was trying not to heat the house up but I will give it a try another day.
@Shari Volz: I wish you could adopt Root Beer, too, because you would be so good for him! But you already do so much-Our Mims and helping kids realize that horses are sensitive, wonderful beings. I believe in the ripple effect wholeheartedly and perhaps it will be 20 years down the road, but maybe one of your students will adopt a rescue horse. I wish you could have him for the pure joy you would bring each other!
@Everyone: Check out on FB “Bits N’ Bunny”- it is a racing and race horse blog written by a 14-year-old girl and it is GOOD! She is really passionate about it and they are really well-written with a wide-variety of horses/races covered.
Good day to all my fellow Z fans!

@Dona
Thanks for the site on TB Heritage. It looks really
Great. I read Abigail’s blog on AK again and I learn
So much everytime. Yes, Carlton House may help
ease Arab/GB relationships or at least make one
Forget for awhile. Interesting in the one video of Street
Cry’s breeding success sorry no mention of Zenny
Guess she was not racing at the time.
FYI
Some commentators are “poking fun” at MMM
new “Gucci shoes”. It serms they are well known
for injury prevention hoof, ankle and leg. I am wondering
If Curlin did not wear them as test. They were developed
At the end of his career. Did he have leg issues?

Just found an old photo of my grandparents` house. In the front window are three stars, and of course, it makes sense now: one, for my father, her son-in-law — who was too old to be drafted, but enlisted; one, for her son — who was ‘just a baby,’ as they said; and one, a second son-in-law, who became something akin to a Navy Seal for that era. ~ At registry@wwiimemorial.com in a simple procedure, you can register your WWII family members or esteemed others; they will show you a preview of their registration, and the process takes about 2-3 weeks for review and confirmation. It is a rather thrilling exercise — one I only wish my father and the others could see. Also, on the same site, are procedures and provisions for air-lifts of veterans of that ‘great generation’ to be guests at the Memorial in Washington, DC.

Dear Zenny

Good luck to all the individuals in the Met Mile today
At Belmont. May you all have a safe and sound race.
Question:
Does anyone have hotel recommendations for
Louisville at BC time?
Kathryn Cogswell
Per Above: I only wish other, later and also great generations of our service personnel — men and women — never had to face other, later wars or conflicts.

There is a nice Marriott downtown Louisville. There is also the Galt House. I know there is also a Residence Inn, but I drove past it once and the area seemed a little run down and isolated…even if it still is officially “downtown.”

@Susan in TN-My brother did not talk about his experiences much. Also, there was a big difference in our ages, about 20 years. There is a horse running in Calif who does jolg my memories of him a bit. Its name is Schofield Barracks, where he was when the attack happened.@J Smith-I am still laughing. The new DVR machines befuddle me. @Karen Cogswell-Picture of horses playing in the surf near Del Mar has always been a staple of the local sports pages, especially when there was a considerable break in the action between Hollywood Park meeting and Del Mar. The trainers would be interviewed and they would mention how therapeutic the waters were for horse with certain types of leg problems. I always thought that everybody was just on vacation. So, to answer your question succintly, this has been done for years. Del Mar is literally right on the ocean.

Dearest Zenny, Today we thank those who have served in the military, like your very own John Shirreffs, those who are serving now, and those who “gave the last full measure of devotion.” Here are the lyrics to Toby Keith’s American Soldier and a link to the video he made, saluting American soldiers from the Civil War to the present. Wishing everyone a blessed Memorial Day, with special thanks to our soldiers.

I’m just tryin’ to be a father, raise a daughter and a son,
Be a lover to their mother, everythin’ to everyone—
Up and at ‘em bright and early, I’m all business in my suit.
Yeah, I’m dressed up for success, from my head down to my boots.
I don’t do it for the money, there’s bills that I can’t pay.
I don’t do it for the glory, I just do it anyway.
Providing for our future’s my responsibility.
Yeah, I’m real good under pressure, being all that I can be,
And I can’t call in sick on Mondays when the weekend’s been too strong—
I just work straight through the holidays, and sometimes all night long.
You can bet that I stand ready when the wolf growls at the door—
Hey, I’m solid, hey, I’m steady, hey, I’m true down to the core.
And I will always do my duty no matter what the price.
I’ve counted up the cost, I know the sacrifice.
Oh, and I don’t want to die for you, but if dyin’s asked of me,
I’ll bear that cross with honor ’cause freedom don’t come free.
I’m an American soldier, an American!
Beside my brothers and my sisters, I will proudly take a stand
When liberty’s in jeopardy, I will always do what’s right—
I’m out here on the front lines, sleep in peace tonight!
American soldier, I’m an American soldier.
An American soldier, an American
Beside my brothers and my sisters, I will proudly take a stand
When liberty’s in jeopardy, I will always do what’s right—
I’m out here on the front lines, sleep in peace tonight!
American soldier, I’m an American, an American, an American soldier.
@Amanda—I am so sorry to hear the sad news that your sister-in-law’s cancer has returned and spread. I will pray for her, your brother, your niece, and you.

Dear Terry Crow: Thank you. Recollections of personal West Coast horse racing history are wonderful, especially considering that they were not so well-respected in eastern circles; I love thinking about the seaside therapies and conditioning for soundness (which were also timeless respected procedures elsewhere), and the great trainers who employed them.

Dearest Sweet “Z”,
Good morning! I very much enjoyed seeing your great Father Street Cry from the links provided here. Many thanks to Abigal and Sara! His majestic beauty shone through and I understand that your amiable personality is from him, as well. My husband and I enjoyed viewing them and then watching you romp in the snow in another video! We are off to the races and will cheer on your friend Cloud Man as well as Roxanne O. Hopefully C.M. will have a clear path this time.
……………………………
Signofthetimes – we stayed at the Historic Sealbach Inn when we saw “Z” at the Kentucky Derby. I would highly recommend it. It is a Hilton Honors hotel if you belong, and it also has AAA discount rates.
………………………………
Susan in TN – thank you for sharing. Root Beer touched my heart also. Couldn’t help but think “Sasparilla” would be cute for the new colt :)
……………………………..
J. Smith – you can borrow mine! TOO FUNNY :) Mine is a keeper…
……………………………….
Have a beautiful and safe Memorial Day All! Many Blessings.
