Good Morning,
I want to wish all of you a very Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Please be safe as you travel and enjoy your free time! This is technically the opening day of the ‘SUMMER SEASON’. It is such a terrific time of the year!
On the West Coast, we have the Hollywood Park Meet running now. In mid-July, Del Mar opens for their summer season. On the East Coast, the Belmont Meet is in full swing now. Then those horses move upstate to Saratoga for their summer racing dates. In between, Churchill and Delaware Park, to name a few venues, will enjoy their seasons. It is a very exciting time in racing. These summer meets are FUN! I always enjoyed them! The big stake days are quite crowded and the people are always so enthusiastic!
I’ve heard many people also like to BARBEQUE on holidays. My Pals and I are very content to GRAZE! One thing for sure, we all like to be with our friends and have a GREAT TIME!
This is the view I have each day from my gorgeous paddock. My pals and I get to share time with our friends and enjoy this absolutely lovely scene each day! We have soft breezes here now and the sunshine is just perfect!
It is funny how the simple things we see so often in nature can be so special! It is really the time of the year to enjoy the outdoors and all the beauty nature provides for us!
FROM MY HOME, TO YOURS… HAVE A SAFE AND BLESSED HOLIDAY!
I’ll catch you up on ALL of the news next week! HOOVES CROSSED!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Reposting from #258 – sorry for the goof. My French-Canadian friend who’s first language is French pronounces E’s name:
Eh-blew-ee-sahn-teh. He pronounced mom’s name too but I’ll have to think about how to write it phonetically – or not! :-)
Waiting for NEWS Zenny!!!

@Chris H: Go, filly!! I am rooting for her wholeheartedly. In the stories, the weakling foal always goes on to be a champion, and maybe that will be the case with your little filly. Good luck to both of you! I think you should name the filly “Irish Blessing” because it is a blessing that she is still with you, and a blessing if she survives and grows. I will keep you in my prayers.
Love,
Anna
P.S.-I also like the names “Pride of Ireland” and “Irish Luck”. :)
Good luck with the filly!!!!!!! Tell us what happens with her.

Sweet Z; came here again; just thinking of you.
@susan in TN- I have missed most recent past blogs, but it sounds like you are working with a couple rescue horses. I really appreciate people as yourself!! And I imagine it is so rewarding as it would be to me. Thank you
Max
@Terry Crow. Your comments are always interesting. Keep them coming. Loved the story of the guy who won his first race at 78. I hope that he wins more races.

Love those videos of Street Cry. I looked him up last
Year when Mr Kronfeld said he really liked the way
SC raced and that is why he chose him as a freshman
Sire for “V”. The Darley video is great. Street Cry seems to
Be a man’s man and very classy. A machine on the track.
Did not see his small white star before or realize he
Was a Darley homebred. Also did not realize he was
Popular in UK. No wonder the Queen (GB) is so excited
About Carlton House. Mr Kronfeld had a vision about
His success as a Sire and he was right. I love Don
Robinson, who now says he never questions Mr K’s
Breeding since Zenyatta.
Also, Zenny’s offspring will be The Mosses homebreds.
How exciting for them. They sooo well deserve it.

Breeding Question:
Carlton House is listed as KY bred. So he was
Foaled in KY and his Dam and Sire are both
At Darley KY?

We have been out of town for two days, so I apologize for not knowing what is going on with “red bags” and foal losses. I tried looking back over the posts to try to find out but couldn’t get the story. But I can still pray for those involved.
@Susan in TN–thanks for the good report. Glad you are better too.
Dear Zenny– I’m glad I didn’t miss any announcements–wink, wink! Love you always
Barbara Wood
I just did find the post about the “red bag” delivery, but I don’t know what that is. Could someone enlighten me? Thanks.

Dear Signofthetimes:
I know that Street Cry is at Darley and maybe CH’s Dam, Talented(G.B.) was bred to Street Cry at Darley and CH was born there.
It’s so interesting. Street Cry is Irish born from a USA bred Sire, Machiavelian and a G.B bred Dam, Helen Street. Hugs, J.B.

Dear Z Zenny and team, Hope all are having a wonderful long weekend. I just wanted to tell you how much I’ve been enjoying one of your photos … diary post # 252, where you have your “thinking cap on” as to thinking about the Preakness. The way your gorgeous head is framed in front of the building a-frame, and your mouth full in the middle of munching on some greens. I tell you, your face and expression are really priceless. I keep going back to that post just to look at you.
I love you so much pretty lady. Wink and hugs to you, hooves crossed.
Hope you have a luscious pear on Memorial Day.
Oh, by the way, I just met Little Silver Charm (at Old Friends) on Facebook. The cute little palomino miniature pony who has a serious crush on YOU! That’s so adorable.
Know you are dearly loved by many. Sweet dreams princess queen.

Scenes like this make me truly appreciate what we have in life. Coming from a family of veterans, being a veteran myself, and having my son currently serving, I want to thank all veterans – past, present and future for the sacrifices they have/will have made. I also wish everyone here a happy, blessed and safe holiday. I just read today on Brisnet.com that John Shirreffs is going to celebrate his 66th birthday on Wednesday – what an appropriate day to announce the news we all are hoping for – Hooves crossed!!!

Dear Zenyatta, Hi sweet girl I know you had to be out in that beautiful Kentucky sunshine today. It was just wonderful. I ran again this morning only a 5.3 my legs were sore. I always think of you and imagine your on your hill looking out or just grazing. Guess what I did today. While waiting on food for take out I tried the beer you like. Now Zenny I am not a drinker so I told the women to open it and pour it in a little glass (I gave the rest to a guy at the end of the bar). I only wanted to taste it. Well I am so suprised that you even like the stuff. It was bitter and strong. I thought after drinking this stuff it would make anyone run really fast :) Just kidding. I did raise my glass and say out loud cheers to Zenyatta. Sorry Zenny I did not like the taste and it was $5.35 a bottle. Wow you have expensive taste! I know only the best for our Queen. Well seetie it is late. I am sending you Giant Hugs and Many Kisses. Good night and sweet dreams, Shari XXXOOO
@ Susan in Tn I love your stories about the horses. My heart is breaking for Root Beer. I wish I could adopt him. Please keep telling us about your work. Your an angel :) It felt good to run 7. My legs were a little sore today but I love running. Thanks for asking. Have a great week :)

Thanks for finding that video on Carlton House. It was great. Interesting how they work, train on the grass and not the dirt.
Talented his Dam, whose Sire was Bustino was a very accomplished
race horse and known for his match race in 1975 with Grundy
at Ascot race course. He was also Leading Broodmare sire in Britain and Ireland 1989.
Sounds like Darley is able to ship horses around to end up breeding on different continents.
There is a Darley Ireland, where Street Cry was foaled, US (KY), Australia and Japan and maybe more? His Sire was standing stud in Ireland as a US bred and bred to a GB mare. Interesting and confusing.
Also, very interesting to keep an Internationally bred stallion
(Street Cry) to breed here in KY. Maybe make US stock sturdier, more stamina etc.. Zenny’s dam is very sturdy and big and then her sire is also sturdy. Of course Street Sense is also popular and has a lower stud fee.
Sooo interesting how everything is intertwined and the various breed are mixed together to create and outstanding breed like the TB.
Thanks so much for your great contributionson this site and also Abigail your expertise. Love The Vault.
Looking forward to the Breeders Cup this year to see some of the greats from US and Europe meet.

Dear Zenny,
Hope you had a great Sunday resting and relaxing and keeping everyone in line. God Bless all the veterans and current soldiers who are defending our country. Working with the soldiers, sailors and marines on a weekend job is very rewarding. It was 93 in KY.
Almost like CA. Now you have a window to look out of and have the breeze blow through your stall. Sweet Dreams.

@Sharon Call, Max and Marshall–Glad you are enjoying the posts. I am having a good time recalling things that have been hidden in my memory for some time. Memorial Day has a special meaning for me. My brother was a Pearl Harbor survivor and was very proud of it. Bless all of our men and women in uniform. And bless Zenyatta for making all of this possible.

Those people over at The World Thoroughbred Rankings better revise their list and add “Orfevre”, the horse that just won the Japan Derby. “Orfevre” replayed his powerful performance in the ”Yushun Stakes” when he split horses late and powered away for the win. He looked like “Goldikova”, who is not on the list either. There are 3 horses on the list that “Goldikova” has beaten. Are you sure those folks watch horse racing? LOL
Gary Moulton
A little side note triva on the Japan Derby is every single horse in field is related to Sunday Silence. 16 are by stallions whose sire is Sunday Silence. Cresco Grand and Belshazzar have Sunday Silence as their broodmare sire.”
signofthetimes
@Gary Moulton
Sunday Silence is busy at stud in Japan. I guess they found a
good American TB.

A special Memorial Day note to your John, Zenny: Thank you for your service, Sir.
And indeed it would be a great birthday present for a Special Announcement on your Special Day, Wednesday.

“Ormonde” is a horse from the 19th century that most people today don’t talk about. He was unbeaten as a racehorse and in spite of declining health from birth and subsequent infertility managed to win 16 straight and sire “Orme”. “Ormonde’s” son “Orme” cemented his place in history with pedigrees in many thoroughbreds today. “Ormonde’s bones are on display at the Museum of Natural History in Kensington.
