Good Morning,
It is so hard to believe that it is almost Memorial Day! I know many people get a nice long weekend off to celebrate the holiday. In our world, that of horse racing, it is a time for great racing and fun! On the holidays, the racetracks are usually quite busy. Like many sporting events, they stay open to allow people who are having some time off to RELAX and ENJOY OUR SPORT!
For ME, every day is like a holiday! I am having so much FUN! I get to graze with my friends, relax, and enjoy the absolutely ‘picture perfect’ weather we are having right now in Lexington. Dottie did say it is also ‘gorgeous’ in Arcadia this morning. We are so fortunate!
Several states, though, are presently suffering due to tornados. BLESSINGS to all who are currently struggling with these serious problems. Life does present challenges, that are so often, out of one’s control! MY TEAM and I want to send our warmest thoughts and prayers to all who are in the midst of these difficulties at this time.
Our hearts are with YOU!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

Ms Zenyatta, good morning. Have a nice Memorial Weekend as well. Weather forecat allowing, I will be at Remington Park, in OKC. My prayers to all the tornado victims. We were lucky here, I just have hail damage on my car, scary night, to say the least. I love you and am still waiting patiently…wink, wink….Lisa g.

Good morning Queen Z, I hope you have a wonderful day. My prayers go out to everyone who has been touched by all the bad weather latley. I would also like to say thank you to the Bradley family, they like the Mosses think of the horse first. I hope Brass Hat enjoys his retirement , just like you are. Love from Tn. Z.

Thank you for showing us another side of your beautiful nature in your concern for those who have been affected by the terrible weather storms throughout the land. It is another testament to the beauty and generosity of your Team Zenyatta to show how much they care for everyone. thank you for allowing us to be a part of the Zenyatta nation by giving us these glimpses of your inner beauty as well. Thank you!

I love the way everyone on this site loves and cares for each other. I just hate it when time doesn’t permit me to read every post some days.
Yes, let’s all remember to count our blessings (one of which we all share is YOU, Big Z), and pray for those whose lives have been devastated by tornadoes and send what we can monetarily to help out. I always worry about the animals involved–not just the pets, but the cows in the fields, etc.
Also, let’s remember to give thanks for those who died to protect our freedom and those who have lost family members in the wars.
@Dawn–we’re all waiting to hear what you found out.

Oops…quick question…are the barn areas at Lane’s End built to endure high winds…I am sure if the staff remotely think the tornadoes will be near, they will make all of the provisions to keep you all safe…GOD BLESS

@ signofthetimes: Glad you liked the Montreal-in-summer description! It’s a GREAT city to visit in the summer…
@Kathy Kimber: Thank goodness all is well with you despite the devastation elsewhere, Kathy. You’re my special friend — be safe!
@ Amanda: I do completely understand. And it is very hard to put down in words — that’s why I opted to make the Secretariat video because I thought it would help me to say what I’ve wanted to say for 37 years! Since Big Red II, I’ve been intensely interested in the stories of a few special thoroughbreds, including Terlingua, Secretariat’s daughter, whose life I know like a book. But this is a different kind of feeling from what I felt for my big red horse. Zenyatta is the only other thoroughbred who has given me this kind of feeling & inspiration — 35 years or so later! For me, it started with her dance. It’s a very rare characteristic and several horse experts commented on it. At some point, someone (forget who) said she was just “revving her engines” before a race. But I knew they were wrong….. I watched many of Zenny’s races on HRTV (can’t get horse racing here in Quebec any other way except thru the internet) but I was mostly watching for her dance. And as I got caught up in her dancing, she got caught up in me. She carries something ancient and mysterious within her, just like Secretariat, that she sends out into the world so clearly that she can “talk” to a woman thousands of miles away through a camera. As I said to a reader who commented on the Secretariat video on THE VAULT, I think it was that aura that led Penny Chenery to say to the Mosses & the Shirreffs, “I got the boy, but you got the girl.”

Hope and pray everyone is okay this morning-let us know!
@Trina N: Glad to hear from you and thank you again for your interest in my work at the rescue. Yes, I did see your comment and meant to say it made me laugh! Our Saint Bernard doesn’t do yoga but that is about all he doesn’t do! Thankfully, he now goes DOWN stairs!
Love everyones comments,thoughts,suggestions <3
Amanda G and Abigail in Montreal: you both expressed thoughts of Zenyatta and Secretariat SO WELL! Beautiful. Abigail, I was the first one to comment after the video on "The Vault" site.
Will check back later-love to all!

Zenyatta,
Just wondering, what precautions are taken for you and the other horses, just in case there is a tornado near your home?

@Kathy Kimber-When my wife’s job was transferred to Kansas City right after the turn of the century we lived in Overland Park. Loved it there, especially the people. I spent some time at The Woodlands, which was a combination horse and dog racing facility near where the Kansas Speedway is now. Unfortunately, the Kansas legislature would not allow it to have slot machines there and it closed down because of the competition from the nearby casinos. It was a great facility, with grandstands for the dogs and horse tracks in between a huge parking lot. At the dog racing facility, off track betting from across the country was available. I struck up some friendships there and tried to learn something about greyhound racing. The fact that I always found so funny was the fact that the dogs did not race under their “real” names. When I asked why, the answer was so apparent I wonder why it did not occur to me. Racing officials were concerned that a dog might respond to its actual name if patrons started yelling. So glad that you are safe. Heard that Kansas City built a new arena downtown to take the place of Kemper.@Kathryn Cogswell–I am glad you appreciated the info on Jet Pilot’s owner. I never intend my posts to seem like I am correcting someone. I am grateful for my new friends on this site.

@Abigail & Judy(Maas) Gadwood — Thank you for the links — very interesting comments by Mike Smith of the 2010 BC Classic, some we had not heard before — Zenyatta’s stumbling and how hard she hit Quality Road when he stopped in the stretch. Also loved the description of Z as the “charismatic US wondermare.”

@ Thanks for the video. YEA MIKE!! Your the BEST :)

@ Abigail – What a great story on our Mike! Congratulations on his win. Hope he gets many more exciting new experiences in this new chapter of his life. On to Ascot!
Z/Dottie – Your compassion and concern for the well-being of everyone is what brings us here as often as we can. This community is an example of what brings out the best in each of us to the benefit of all.

The American jockey Mike Smith will experience a more glamorous side of the sport at Royal Ascot next month, but nevertheless enjoyed breaking his British duck in low-key fashion at Folkestone.
The Hall of Fame rider, best known for his association with the brilliant mare Zenyatta, partnered the 1-6 chance Gentlemans Code to a workmanlike victory over Bear Behind and earned himself barely £200 for his share of the winning prize money in the three-runner Maiden Stakes.
However, despite it being a far cry from the valuable purses Smith often chases in the US, the 45–year-old insisted that he was revelling in the opportunity to ride in a different part of the world.
“I feel like a kid again,” he said. “I’ve been in this game for 30 years, but this is something totally different
Big Girl you are famous everywhere!!!! Go Mike!

@Brooke – What a wonderful thing. Congratulations, and many blessings for dear Dusty, and you all.
@Carolyn – Thanks for the update on the orphaned eaglets. The loss of their mother was tragic, but at least they will be raised and fly free one day. Last week I brought a baby bunny to a wildlife rehab center. His/her mother had dug a hole and made a nest in a stall at my barn. The horse accidently stepped on a baby & broke his leg. I called the center later, and found out he didn’t make it. I felt so very saddened, but at least he wasn’t left to die alone.
@Susan in TN – thanks so much for the birthday wishes to Emma.
My heart goes out to all – people & animals, caught in the maelstrom of these latest tornadoes. These disasters keep coming, almost without a break. The earth & weather have become extremely active ….frightening.

@Susan in Tn. Loved your description of Chester taking to grooming. Also, your story of your St. Bernard made me laugh. It reminded me a little of my German Shepherd, 75 lbs., that was afraid of storms and would climb in my lap when it thundered.
@audreyc. The quotations you posted just knocked my socks off especially the one from Albert E. What an amazing truth that is.
@CynthiaH. What a beautiful picture you painted with your description of a perfect picnic.
To Everyone that came through the weather OK – I’m so glad you did. Hopefully, these terrible storms are almost past. Tornadoes, earth quakes, flooding – Good grief, enough already.
