Good Morning,
It is so hard to believe that it is almost Memorial Day! I know many people get a nice long weekend off to celebrate the holiday. In our world, that of horse racing, it is a time for great racing and fun! On the holidays, the racetracks are usually quite busy. Like many sporting events, they stay open to allow people who are having some time off to RELAX and ENJOY OUR SPORT!
For ME, every day is like a holiday! I am having so much FUN! I get to graze with my friends, relax, and enjoy the absolutely ‘picture perfect’ weather we are having right now in Lexington. Dottie did say it is also ‘gorgeous’ in Arcadia this morning. We are so fortunate!
Several states, though, are presently suffering due to tornados. BLESSINGS to all who are currently struggling with these serious problems. Life does present challenges, that are so often, out of one’s control! MY TEAM and I want to send our warmest thoughts and prayers to all who are in the midst of these difficulties at this time.
Our hearts are with YOU!
With Love,
Hugs to All~

P.S. I’ve been meaning to post this:
“The wind between a horse’s ears is the breath of God.”…old Arab saying
audreyc
OK, this is off topic. But, I guess I just wanted to share that today was my Emma’s BD. She turned 10 years old today. She is a Gemini…..and, she
rather fits her astrological sign. She is a very pretty mare, and a beautiful red (apricot)dun (which, as an appendix, she got from her quarter horse sire’s side -her paternal great grandfather, to be exact – through my research) although her conformation, demeanor, personality, etc. tends to reflect far more of her thoroughbred dam’s side. I purchased a Farnum glitter fly mask as a Birthday present. The mesh, which is a glittery light copper, blended perfectly with her coloring, and the trim on the forehead, and over the nose is a faux “cheetah” print….She is a hot mamma….She loves fly masks, and , after I allowed her to sniff it quite well, (as it was a new object), she soon put her head down to allow me to put it on her. OK – I know. I am somewhat “daft” – but thank you for allowing me to share….It was, well, too cute!
@Zenyatta – The first thing I search for now, looking at the site, everyday, is for an official announcement of, well, an announcement…..
@others on this site – thank you for your comments, links, info., etc. Please know I read them, and I am appreciative of all.
Kari Bussell
@ Trinia N I hope all is well with you and you and yours are safe. It isn’t like you not to post…I hope we hear from you soon…
@ Susan in TN…I understand being a worry-wort. I would probably get the “Greatest” award if there was one…LOL..
@ Paula- I agree about sense of humor.
@DJ Your post always bless me as do many others here.

@Susan in Tn – I believe the Arab proverb is -“The wind of heaven is that which blows between a horse’s ears.”
Also, other beautiful and wise quotes are:
“Trust no man, in which you do not see reflected yourself as an equal.”
“Horses are persistently hopeful that humanity will wake up.” Kate Solisti-Mattelon
and the incredibly wise:
“Until he extends his circle of compassion to all living things, man himself will not find peace.” Albert Schweitzer

Sorry – but one other quote which is profound beyond….. “Problems cannot be solved by using the same concsiousness in which they were formed.” Albert Einstein…..Wow.

Sweet Zenny; To all of your fans here and your friends that are in the tornado areas…. I send my sincere hope for better days your way. Peace and Love to all.

Everyone: Here’s my idea to help our friends and family tornado victims. We donate to help horse, dog and cat rescues proudly. Let’s proudly donate $1 each to the Red Cross or Salvation Army in Zenyatta’s honor for “mid-west tornado victims”. If every Facebook friend and all us here do it, that would be a lot of money. Could one of you on Facebook (I’m not) post this idea for me? As soon as I hit send, I’m going to both the RC and SA sites to donate in Zenny’s honor. diastu in Tempe

@Kari B: LOL!
@Audrey C: Thanks about the proverb :)
Happy 10th birthday, Emma! You sound beautiful-and now with a glitter mask?!? WOW. What a great present! Love the quotes.

@DJ–That’s so kind of you to wonder about my safety–I’ve just had a very busy day. I’m in Santa Paula in Southern California, so in no danger now, but have in the past been threatened by wild fire, earthquake, and flooding. I’m so glad that Z dedicated her thoughts today to those in the path of these terrible wind storms–I hope there will be no more losses, and I am so relieved when Z fans here let us know they are OK. I haven’t finished reading through the posts yet, but I wanted to set your mind to rest.

What a blessing! Just took a peek before retiring. God is always in the timing…amazing.

I send my prayers also for those affected by the tornadoes, it has been a bad season for them.

@Signofthetimes – I’m catching up here, I finally answered your ? from #255, at the bottom of #256. Giddyup, here…

Okay Dear Zenny, I just donated on line to both the Red Cross and Salvation Army in your honor. It took a bit of cleverness to make you the honoree, but it got done. The Red Cross allows an ecard to be sent to the honoree. I just used Lanes End’s email address. I hope they get lots of them.
Blessings to all of you in or near harms way. Check in as often as you can so we know you are alright!

I don’t know about Jerry and Ann Moss, but Honey, whether you are empty or carrying your first little one, I’d have you on the next transport to CA to get you away from the Tornadoes! I think you need to have a Cal-bred Bernardini baby. :) You can always go back to KY next season.
Love you!
J Smith
Diane, I am putting that on Zenny’s FB for you. Excellent idea.
Kari Bussell
@Trinia N. I am glad you are safe.
To all of you who have been affected by all these awful storms, floods, and tornadoes- I can’t even wrap my mind around all the images on the news. You are in all of our hearts, minds and prayers.
I agree about all of us giving even if it is just a dollar. They add up…and some are able to give more…My Mother always told me you can’t out give God…Greatest lesson she taught me…and gift- for the more you give the more joy you feel.
Kari Bussell
Sorry, but I hit send before I said- I Love you Zenyatta! …and Thank you Dottie.

The Tornadoes are certainly more devastating, but the news on the virus EHV-1 has been scary enough alone, that it was featured prominently in the L.A. Times yesterday (http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-horse-disease-20110524,0,5037060.story?track=rss).

@Diane S. So sorry, having FB problem, it will not let me post! But I will ask someone else to do it, so hopefully it will be up in the morning.

@Susan in TN–I just saw that you were wondering too-so kind of you. I loved the story of your St. Bernard who doesn’t do stairs (no “Downward-facing Dog yoga poses for him, huh?)and the beautiful Arab saying you shared today. I pray you will make it through the stormy night safe and sound, and all the animals too. BTW did you see my little note to you yesterday? I commented: “You’re making progress so fast! Like Z barreling down the stretch!” Way to go!Looking forward to the next installment of Rescue at River Edge Farm.
@Nancy–I hope you’ll be able to tell us soon that all your loved ones are safe.
@Valeria Cannon–Prayers for you too to make it through the storm unscathed. Please post as soon as you can.
Vicki B.
@Signofthetimes – my post to you at the bottom of #256 is “awaiting moderation”, I forgot because of the two links, so hopefully it’ll be “up” tomorrow.

Zenny, Our prayers are with you and all the people and animals in effected areas on this stormy night. I’m going to follow the lead of Diana S and J Smith and make a donation to both the Red Cross and Salvation Army in your honor. Sleep tight, sweet Z.
@Cynthia H—I think we would all like to join you for that perfect picnic day in Z’s pasture just as you described it.
@Sunny Boyd—I’m so glad you didn’t get blown away.
@Kathy Kimber—Thank God you came through OK.
@audreyc—Loved your beautiful quotes.

For those who want to donate to the Red Cross in Z’s honor and get an e-card sent to the honoree as Diana S (and I) did, the e-mail address for Lane’s End is lanesend@lanesend.com.

My Sweet Lady Zenyatta, You are so thoughtful, kind & loving to think of others when you are in the path too. I am praying that YOU & every Z Fan is safe during these storms. This season has been unbelieveable. I was wondering, Do they have storm shelters built underground for the horses there @ L.E? When my brother sang in the Kids of The Kingdom at Disney World, I got to see the city under Disney World for the employees. I was blown away. I never thought there was anything underground with all the secret doors all over the park. Just saying that, they should consider building a horse storm shelter somewhere on the property. One for each barn would be good. I just pray the tornadoes miss everyone.
@ Audreyc-I love the quotes, especially Albert E. Very powerful!
@ Vicky B-I agree with you about the virus EHV-1. I have been reading for the last week about the virus being in Ca. and spreading so fast. It’s hard to contain because horses are going to snort & exhale with force. This just causes it to spread so fast. Viruses are just scary anyway!
@ Abigail- I absolutely loved your article on Secretariat & the actual footage in the video was awesome! It was special to see. That night I dreamed of him racing at The Belmont and I was there to see him. Abigail,in my comment I wrote that I understood the impact that Scretariat had on your life. I had an experience of a strong bond with Zenyatta as I watched her in the 20th race. I can’t explain it to where anybody understands but she appeared as a life force with super natural qualities and as she seem to move from between mortal to immotal, covering grond so fast to such a great finish. I felt her impact in my mind, body & soul. My life changed in a split section with her split second decision as I watched her race to a win in my eyes. Abigail, I hope you see this. I just wanted to share my special connection/bond to Zenyatta I formed that day. Nothing would ever be the same. Zenyatta brought me back to life. She deserves all the credit for all she does for so many. For me, I’ll never be able to repay her. Zenyatta raced over my heart that day leaving her hooves imprinted forever. What a magnificent Champion!
Zenyatta, I hope you have a wonderful & and safe Memorial Weekend. I am so happy that you are realaxed & enjoying life as it was meant to be. Sending Hugs & Kisses With Love From Alabama, Amanda G

Thanks Trina for the e-mail address.

To everyone that has been following the Eaglets at the WCV that they were posting the links on here for, through everyones voting they came in fifth place with the votes so because of the Norfolk Botanical Gardens eagle cam , then moving them to Wildlife Center of VA. after the mother got killed, the wildlife center will get 200K in addition to the 25K they had already won, Thanks to the support for the love of those baby eaglets.
Norfolk Botanical Gardens wins 100K, IF it hadn’t been for those links on here, most of us would have never known of them and cast our votes, thank you to posted the links to the eagle cam in the beginning, I started following them when they were in their nest then watching them grow daily. Now I’m addicted to them…..

Terry Crow: Good to get it straight that Jet Pilot`s owner was clearly EA — my first hunch . .. should have looked it up to be sure; my ‘Seabiscuit’ copy is tattered, and always at hand; Laura Hillenbrand`s research was so fresh and personal and opened the world of horse racing and The Biscuit`s time to readers who had neither known nor cared about it before. Thank you for all your similar insights.

@Amanda G. Thanks for your story of Z’s race it puts into words so many things I too felt that day as I watched no one could have said it better. Thanks you so much. Hugs
